Christmas in Rockland—battleground or romantic?
Avalon is ticked—seriously livid. Who does this Marine recruiter think he is? Her brother is a boy and is not ready to be sacrificed on the altar of “service to your country.” No. Thank you. When trying to talk sense into Max doesn’t work, she does the only thing she can think of. Take it to the top.
Gareth Hudson has an exemplary record as a Marine recruiter and knows a good man when he sees one. So when Maxton McCollum starts asking questions in a diner one afternoon, it was obvious. This was a match made in military heaven. One young man anxious to serve his country. One country ready to train him to be the best version of himself.
So when Avalon walks into Gareth’s recruiting office, all the wrong kinds of fireworks explode. In a peacekeeping move unlike him, Gareth asks for four Saturdays to change her mind. If he can’t, he’ll suggest that Max wait six months before signing up.
Romance wasn’t part of the bargain, and with their age difference, Gareth knows it still shouldn’t be, but how do you resist the pull of love at Christmas?
♥ Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh
Gabe Lewis loves Christmas, just not as much as his eccentric mother who gave him and his siblings Christmas names. When he discovers that his new co-worker Shanée Mitchell wants nothing to do with the season, he makes it his mission to show her the true meaning. But he never expected feelings to develop for the Air Force veteran. Can he take a chance that she feels the same way or miss the best gift of all?
♥ The Road Home by Cathe Swanson
Tally has tried to leave her military history far in the past, but she's not ready to go back to her former life, either. Can an old army buddy help her find a new road home?
♥ Now and Forever Christmas by Jaycee Weaver
Romance ruined their friendship. This could be the Christmas they repair it?
CJ Sinclair never imagined trading her chef’s toque for the domestic life but her pregnant sister needs help over the holidays, and the timing couldn’t be better. A breakup and a bad case of burnout are just two on a list of things out of her control these days. Then there’s Tobin, her once best friend who she hasn’t spoken to in years. Now he’s everywhere all the time and sparking feelings she thought she got over ages ago.
The past eight years as a professional musician for the US Army prepared Tobin McGhee for his new job as high school band teacher. They didn’t prepare him for how he’d feel seeing CJ again. This time, though, he won’t make the same mistakes. He’s determined to rebuild the friendship they lost. Maybe even rediscover those feelings they had back in high school before everything went wrong.
Can they make holiday music together and rekindle the friendship they once had, or will romance ruin everything again?

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.
Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25
Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.
They’re for you.
When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.
Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.
And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”
Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached. What does that even mean? It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.
But I do.
And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.
I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.
This review is for Now & Forever Christmas by Jaycee Weaver: Now and Forever Christmas is another wonderful addition to the Sinclair Sisters series. It is currently part of the Home for Christmas: Christmas Lights Collection, and each book in that collection features a character who has or is serving in the military. In Now and Forever Christmas, the hero of the story was a part of the US Army Band for eight years.
Once again, just like in the first book, This and Every Christmas, I loved the way the author took me on a journey through the past to show me the friendship and relationship that grew between CJ and Tobin. Each chapter featured a portion from the past and a portion from the present and the chapters alternated between the viewpoints of both characters. The way these two books were crafted made me feel like I really knew Tobin and CJ and the returning characters from book one.
It was clear that Tobin and CJ truly cared for each other all of these years, even as they faced some situations that pulled them apart. This book was wonderfully uplifting, yet still delved into the topic of emotional abuse, something that CJ dealt with at one point in her life. Her journey to reconnect with her family and Tobin and work on her emotional and spiritual healing was beautiful. If you haven’t read the first book in the series, you can still read and enjoy this one, however, I highly recommend both of these books! They are both so good!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars (I did not read this collection 3 times, but am marking the dates for each book I read.)
The Stars of New Cheltenham 11-21 2,5 stars The story was rather fun, but not my favorite by this author. I liked the two main characters, but I was expecting a Christmas story not just a story that would have read almost the exact same if it was set during Easter time or the middle of summer. While the bookish dates were kind of fun, it sure took a while to find out what they were supposed to do to show why Max wanted to join the Marines.
Most Wonderful Time 11/23 - 11/24 3.5 stars I really liked this story. The fact that one of the characters was dealing with chronic pain made it even more interesting as I don’t usually find stories like that. The gentleness and care Gabe had for Shanée was sweet. I loved the family dynamics and the fun Christmas things they did. But the names! Oh, I did feel sorry for them even while I chuckled. Now I want to read another story about the Lewis family. I appreciated that there was prayer and attending church in this story.
The Road Home DNF It wasn’t that there was anything objectionable in this story. I just wasn’t interested and found it dragging for me at the time. Another time I might find it more interesting.
Now and Forever Christmas 11/28 - 11/29 2.5 stars There are parts of this story that I really enjoyed, and parts I didn’t like. The constant switching of times did pull me out of the story at times, but not always. The characters were ones I enjoyed and I loved their care for each other. Dave was–ugh! But the families compassion and forgiveness was good to see. There was one scene that was leading up to something and then eluded to which made me uncomfortable. There was prayer in this story that wasn’t just thrown in but actually felt natural.
What fun! Another Christmas collection of books written by four wonderful authors. Each story will warm your heart and get you into the holiday spirit. The authors are all fantastic storytellers and will capture your heart and give you warm fuzzies. Another aspect I loved about this collection is that throughout each story the authors brought out tender truths of God’s love. These were sweetly written and not at all pushy.
Christmas really is a wonderful time. A time full of wonder and beauty, woven with bits of holiday magic. This is what the collection brought to me. It was such a delight to read, and as I started reading this collection, I got into the mood for all things Christmas. It was just what I needed to get into the holiday spirit and now I want to decorate my house! I highly recommend you pick this collection up; it will bring a smile to your face and warm fuzzies to your heart! I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Oooh, Tally's story was so good! I must admit I flipped straight to Cathe Swanson's story in this collection because I've been dying to read Tally's story. It was so much better than I could have imagined! I loved the depth and nuance Mrs. Swanson wrote into Tally's character, and she did a beautiful job filling in her backstory. And Christopher is just completely swoon worthy in his own unique way and absolutely perfect for Tally. This book was a delight. I'll have to come back and fill in reviews of the other books when I read them, but I wanted to get this one down while it was fresh.
Home for Christmas brings another fabulous Christmas Lights Collection. I have looked forward to this collection of holiday romances every year since the first one came out. The delightful stories have never disappointed. I loved the military theme throughout the Home for Christmas collection.
This is one of the best collection of stories in the annual Christmas Lights collection. I love that the common theme is about people who have served in the military. I highly recommend this collection.
This reader read two of the selections: Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh and Road Home by Cathe Swanson with the focus on those who served. Inspiring Christmas read including freedom, sacrifice, joy, love and hope. A story for a variety of tastes.
This year I visited with siblings of old friends, caught up with some of those friends, and made new friends.
I walked the streets of New Cheltenham, and did Christmas at the Appel farm in Oji del Oso. Meeting the Lewis family in D.C. has me needing to searching for more. Tally in the Chicago area tugged my heart, wanting to help. Maybe spend some time at the Community Center.
This is a wonderful Christmas collection of 4 romance novellas featuring military characters. The authors did a fabulous job with each story, and they all captured my attention. Each story had wonderful truths in them.
Home for Christmas showcases the amazing talents of Chautona Havig, Toni Shiloh, Cathe Swanson, and Jaycee Weaver, and it's a perfect choice for the holidays! Havig once again proves her ability to make us laugh; Shiloh paints a powerful picture of trust, hope, and forgiveness; Swanson shares a touching friendship between a WWII nurse and a female medic who served in Afghanistan; and Weaver offers a second chance at romance.
The four novellas in this collection share the common thread of military service, and all four have stories that will pull at your heart strings. I loved that each of the authors focused on different aspects of military life, along with the sacrifices of veterans and their families. Romance, family, and the power of faith are also included. Home for Christmas has all of the feels and I recommend this heartwarming collection!
I received a digital copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
I loved working with Chautona, Toni, and Cathe for the second year in a row. Last year's book, This and Every Christmas, in Hearts Aglow was such a joy to write that I knew younger sister Charlie needed her story told. I'm already excited for next year as well! And since I've already gotten to read Toni's book, I can say this is definitely a collection you won't want to miss! Can't wait to dig into Chautona's and Cathe's books too. :)
Whenever I find a book that is a collection of stories from several authors I get excited. Each author beings their unique style of writing where readers can experience the gift each author has. This collection has some of my favorite authors and I couldn’t wait to start reading. The theme this year is perfect and honors the military.
The Stars of New Cheltenham by Chautona Havig
I enjoyed reading about Avie and Gareth and how they grew in their relationship. Avie is such a great character and her unconditional love for her brother stands out. It is scary for her to think about her brother enlisting to serve his country. Gareth taking Avie on a journey that includes her favorite books was genius. We get to explore the various books while enjoying how Gareth continues to try to convince Avie that her brother is making a good decision.
There is humor in the book that only the author can achieve as the characters try to dissuade each other from proving their point. I couldn’t wait to see if Gareth would win Avie over or would she persuade her brother to find another career that didn’t involve combat. The dates they go on are adventurous and filled with laughter and literature.
The best part of the story for me was when Max and Avie talk, I mean really talk. Max shares how he has always felt like a misfit and needed this chance to fit in somewhere . Serving in the military is very important to him. Thanks to the author we are reminded how important it is to support our military.
Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh
I liked the way the author showed us what happens when someone is injured and has to retire from the military. Even though the accident wasn’t from an official battle it still forced Shanée to retire. It is easy to understand how angry she is and not too happy about her new career. Getting to know her was nice and I loved seeing how Gabe brought a smile to her face. She is trying so hard not to like him, but he is a charmer.
Gabe is a great character with a big heart. I sensed that he isn’t really satisfied working at the bank with his father but for now he is just coasting by. I love his siblings names and how close the family is. I adored his parents and their love for family and each other. Gabe is my favorite character in this story because he is caring and always wants to make everyone feel welcome. He may be a bit shy of relationships but I have a feeling he may just find what he has been looking for soon.
It broke my heart to here that Shanée thinks that God doesn’t care about her. I could see Gabe’s face as she said those words. I loved how the author used people from the Bible to illustrate how they suffered but learned that with God anything is possible. As I write this review I am sitting here in pain from my back as well. I have a big hurdle ahead of me to overcome this issue but with God it is possible. The author delivers a wonderful story about trust, healing and showing that our friendship helps others to know that God cares. I loved how forgiveness is explained in the story in a way that leads you to understand about God’s unconditional love for each of us. Do Gabe and Shanée start dating? Well that will be for readers to discover in this beautifully written story.
The Road Home by Cathe Swanson
This story is one that I really was anxious to read. You don’t hear much about women who were nurses in the military during WWII. Iris has seen a lot in her years but now that she is older she misses the days when she was always busy taking care of wounded soldiers. I loved getting to know her better.
Tally was a medic in Afghanistan and now lives with Iris. Tally had a rough couple years when she returned from duty but maybe there is a reason she found a place to stay with Iris. After all they do have similar backgrounds and I’m sure they have stories to share about their deployments.
When Christopher was introduced in the story I knew we would soon find out more about Tally. Something happened when they were both stationed together and now Talky seems to want to hide from everyone. Having PTSD is difficult to deal with and Tally has found ways to avoid dealing with it mostly.
The setting of the story is nice because it highlights community shelters and how they help anyone in need. I loved how the author brought several people together that share a history of serving in the military. My curiosity was getting the best of me and I couldn’t read fast enough to get my questions answered. The ending is so good and I cried as I finished the last page.
Now and Forever by Jaycee Weaver
What a great story to end this book about the military. Can you remember your first crush you had? Oh I remember mine so well. He was this cute guy with curly blonde hair with sky blue eyes. We were a couple all the way until high school when he moved away. CJ and Tobin remind me so much of those days and I fell in love with their characters.
Tobin was in the army and served also in the military band. Now he teaches high school band where he runs into someone who know CJ. How would she react seeing him after all these years? Would there still be a spark between them? Poor Tobin has no idea why they broke up so long ago. He still has this problem with being accepted by others. I thought it was interesting that his dad was never proud of him.
This story is filled with past hurts and misunderstandings. When CJ and Tobin finally have a very serious talk, the pain that CJ has been carrying stumbles out in tears and words. The emotional scars that she has endured by someone has taken a toll on her. Tobin has such a compassionate heart and is there to comfort CJ as she starts to reveal her past. I loved how the author talked about emotional abuse and allowed readers to see that there is hope for those who feel unwanted. Does Tobin get his girl in the end? Pick up a copy of the book for the answer.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I appreciated that this book honored our men and women who have served or are presently serving in the military. Each one of these stories highlights an individual and their unique role they played in their military career. Written by four talented authors, I found these stories intriguing and enjoyed the way the storylines linked the military theme throughout the collection. Here’s a highlight from each story:
“The Stars of New Cheltenham”: This story not only gives a look at the positive influence of a Marine recruiter on young recruits, but the author also references some of my favorite books in delightful way all throughout the story. Who knew a Marine recruiter could be so creative in trying to win the heart of the woman he loves?
“Now and Forever Christmas”: This story highlights the on again/off again relationship of Tobin and CJ, who both are wondering if they can find love as they renew their friendship for the third time. Can CJ forgive herself for all the hurt she’s caused Tobin and her family in the past? This story is heart touching and I found myself rooting for Tobin to find his happily ever after; and for CJ to find God’s peace in her life.
“Most Wonderful Time”: This story introduces us to the charming Lewis family. I loved this story that centers on Gabe Lewis and Shanee Mitchell. Gabe is a good guy who truly cares about the physical pain Shanee suffers because of her military service. I’m hoping to read more about the Lewis family in some of the author’s other books.
“The Road Home”: For me, this was the most poignant of the collection as Tally struggles to make a new life for herself while recovering from PTSD. I admired the way the author highlighted the good work that community ministries do to assist those in need.
This is a gem of a collection that, although it has a Christmas theme, would be good reading at any time of year.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Home for Christmas is a compilation of four different military connected Christmas short stories that are written by four different authors. Each of the stories are stand alone stories, however they are connected to series written by the different authors. These are all very well written stories that stayed with me after reading them.
I really felt for Avie in The Stars of New Cheltenham by Chautona Havig. I could actually feel how she was feeling with wanting to keep her brother safe near her and not in the military.
I appreciated Gabe in Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh. He was so thoughtful of the never ending pain Shanée lived with daily.
I enjoyed The Road Home by Cathe Swanson the most. It has so many aspects to it. I enjoyed how Tally was able to move forward one step at a time to deal with PTSD. I also enjoyed how caring and considerate yet determined Christopher was about following through on what their original plans for. These is so much in this story to appreciate. The homeless shelter, the generous elderly lady Tally helps care for and the way the whole community comes together.
Now and Forever by Jaycee Weaver is a story of a second chance at love. I enjoyed the parts of the story that show there are areas in the Army for almost everyone. For Tobin it was to be in the band, which lead to him becoming a music teacher.
This is a heart warming collection of wonderful Christmas Christian romance stories. Each one is just the right length to read in an evening. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
This collection of novellas is a wonderful tribute to those who serve in the military while also being the perfect reminder of God's love and faithfulness as expressed during the Christmas season. From family members dealing with the prospect of loved ones entering service to veteran's navigating the sometimes heartbreaking reality of trying to find a new normal after experiencing the horrors of war, this series of stories covers each stage of military service with sensitivity and grace. It's obvious each of the authors appreciate those in service to our country and the sacrifices they make. Joys and trials of military service and the effects it can have on those returning to civilian life are not glossed over or made to look hopeless. It feels true to life, though I cannot say this for sure since I have no experience with the subject.
And setting these stories with the backdrop of Christmas is perfect. A time dedicated to God's message of love and hope is what each of the characters need. And just in case you think a series of novellas about those who chose to serve our country is going to be a heavy, emotional read, I can assure you it is not. There are touching scenes, but there is plenty of traditional Christmas fun included in each story. I give Home for Christmas five stars. I received a copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. The opinions and reviews are my own.
Home for Christmas by Chautona Havig, Toni Shiloh, Cathe Swanson, & Jaycee Weaver, A Review
This compelling collection of four Christmas novellas offer plenty to delight and touch readers. Each story has a tie to the military, and each is unique but filled with a sweet love story. The first was my favorite, with Gareth Hudson planning outings connected to books Avie McCollum loves. Of course, I enjoy book themes in novels—they add to the fun. And Chautona Havig always comes up with intriguing tales. This one includes her favorite setting of Rockland.
Each author weaves well-told dramas, plucking at readers’ emotions and tugging at their hearts, in addition to provoking thoughts regarding these diverse experiences. Their entertaining plots hold readers’ interest throughout the stories, and the endearing characters certainly seem fully alive and authentic. The fourth novella evoked much emotion, but it also included edgier elements I would prefer not to read about, although nothing explicit. The book can be enjoyed any time of year. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
I look forward to reading this collection every year, and am always interested to see which authors are in the line-up. Past years have been good, but I think this is my favorite. Can I be completely honest here and say I don't like this collection? I love it. There is enough variety in the stories, the characters, and the settings to make each book stand out on its own. Each author brings their own story to life with the little nuances that only they can bring, and I didn't find myself liking any one book a great deal more than the others. Which is something that I run across a lot. Typically, there will be one story in a collection that is more memorable than the others and when I think of the collection, I'm reminded of that one story. In this collection, I remember all the stories I read, and when I tried to sit down and figure out which book and character were my favorites, I found myself skipping from one book to the next. Because I found myself liking more than just the one character, or the one book... they're all good. It's a solid collection, with four good books included. Anyone who enjoys books about Christmas, or books about Christmas that feature military men/women will enjoy this collection. For that matter, anyone who enjoys books will enjoy this collection because it's good. I requested a copy of this book to review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
The Stars of New Cheltenham: I enjoyed this story. It was fun to see the dates that Gareth came up with to go with the books. I liked the biblical thread and the characters' growth. It was also fun to see the other characters that we've met before.
Most Wonderful Time: I enjoyed this story and for Gabe to get his story told. It was nice to see old friends again. I felt the story was well written and with a good flow.
The Road Home: I loved being back at Unity Plenkiss again and seeing all the familiar people. I was thrilled to get Tally's story and for her to find her own happily ever after. I think it would be best to read the other books that have to do with the Unity Plenkiss before reading this novella so you get the full picture of Tally's life. I liked Christopher and his steadiness. The biblical faith thread was good.
Now and Forever Christmas: This is the second installment of The Sinclair Sisters Trilogy, but you could read it without having read Clari's story first. I enjoyed getting to know CJ and Tobin, both in the past and in the present. I found the story to be well written and kept me wanting to read.
This book is four stories in one book. There's another New Cheltenham story from Havig. It fits in with the others from her settings there. It's not super Christmas-y, but it's a nice story.
Shiloh's story with Gabe and Shanee about broke my heart. I am far too familiar with what PTSD does to our men and women who have served our country so bravely. This was a strong moving story, but hard for me in some ways.
Swanson pulled out some stops in her story. Tally and Christopher have different PTSD issues than the prior story, and as a nurse Tally has been through the wringer. I found this story to be quite moving as well, and well told. You might need some tissues.
Weaver gave us a story to remind us of our first crushes. CJ and Tobin, a military band, this story shared some things in common with people I know who were in service and in bands there as well. Covering past pain, and misunderstandings, this was another good read.
Overall this is a nice collection and not at all unfitting for Christmas.
My digital copy came from Celebrate Lit. This review is all mine and is what I thought about these stories. A positive review is never required.
I really enjoy Novellas that include 2 or more authors. Home for Christmas is Book 6 in the The Christmas Lights Collection. There are 4 novellas in this book and they all focus on Military Families. The Books and Authors are: The Stars of New Cheltenham by Chautona Havig Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh The Road Home by Cathe Swanson Now and Forever Christmas by Jaycee Weaver
WOW, I cannot pick a favorite story from this book. All of the stories are so sweet, heartwarming, Family Focused, and stories about Military. Christmas time can be difficult for Military Families, I really like how each author has written a unique story, but all the stories flow together so well. The Message of Faith throughout each story is very evident and I appreciate that the authors have included Faith! I can honestly say this is probably my Favorite Novella of all time! I HIGHLY recommend this book for all! It definitely will get you in the Christmas spirit anytime of year! FANTASTIC BOOK and GREAT Authors!
Just an amazing collection of stories! I love all of these authors and knew I’d love this book before I even picked it up. I was not disappointed!
The series focuses on the military both past and present. So you get some veterans, one person signing up, etc. It’s a really great small tribute and a wonderful holiday novel as well.
Chautona Havig takes us back to New Cheltenham which just happens to be a favorite place of mine so I’d have to say that this was my favorite story of them all though they are all really good!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
An amazing Holiday gift from four very special authors. Yes, I admit to catching up with "book friends" in New Cheltenham; watch the world change from the horrors of Vietnam (I am that old) to the attempt of a kinder world for those deployed in the Middle East who returned to support and help; to seeing the world through generational PTSD and learning how kind the folks at Unity Plenkiss can be to anyone in need...or reconnecting; and, finally to a fairly new author to me with a story of reunion, and the hurdles we must cross to find ourselves and each other
Four "Christian" authors who weave faith into four of the best stories I have read in a while. Thank you authors for what you do. Highly recommended 5/5
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of stories. Each author has their own style and story, but every one of them was good. I will admit to not being really in the 'Christmas Spirit' this year, but this book made me smile and the stories warmed my heart.
As with most all collections there were stories that I liked more than others. That being said, I can honestly say there wasn't a story in here I disliked. God's love was shown through the stories and of course some good romance was there. Unique circumstances and resolutions. I encourage you to read these as I enjoyed them.
4/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Home for Christmas is part of The Christmas Lights Collection. It is a collection of four stories by four talented author, which include: The Stars of New Cheltenham by Chautona Havig Most Wonderful Time by Toni Shiloh The Road Home by Cathe Swanson Now and Forever Christmas by Jaycee Weaver I enjoyed every one of these. They were all sweet and heartwarming during the most magical time of the year. I can not even pick a favorite of the four. I had no problem reading this whole book in just a day or two. Home for Christmas will be getting five plus stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading novellas that are set during Christmas.
I received a digital copy of Home for Christmas from the publisher but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I absolutely love books that are part of a collection, that are written by different authors and are stand alones. Home for Christmas is written by Chautona Havig, Toni Shiloh, Cathe Swanson, and Jaycee Weaver. All of these authors I have previously read and have always enjoyed what they have written.
This collection of novellas will get you into the Christmas spirit. They are all heartwarming, easy to read, unique, and have elements of faith woven into every one. There is one suggestion that I want to put out there - in Toni Shiloh's story there is mention of an accident that forces our character to retire from the military. I wanted to mention this because I have friends that cannot read or see things that will trigger PTSD. The author does handle it gracefully and with tact.
I enjoyed this holiday collection. I hope that these four authors collaborate in the future for more! I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit Blogging Program, All thoughts are my own.
This is a set of 4 novellas based off Christmas and military service in varying degrees.
The Stars of New Cheltenham This had to be my favorite of the group. It was a really fun read about finding family.
Most Wonderful Time I had already read the first 2 in this series of novellas. I loved seeing Gabe's story. I also really appreciated how Shanee's chronic injury was handled.
The Road Home This was the longest novella in the group and unfortunately it felt that way. I liked the characters and the plot, but the story felt like it dragged.
Now and Forever Christmas I flew through this novella. I adored the characters and need to find the earliest novella in this series. The story is set so part of the chapter is in the past and part is in the present. This occasionally annoyed me, but mostly because I wanted to know right away what was happening in the present. However the past scenes built up the characters.
