Enjoyed reading the journey of one of the best football players. Very inspirational to see how sheer belief, drive and tenacity can help one achieve all their dreams.

“ the best things in life never come easily “

Luka Modrić is in my top 10 players of all time , so this review might be a bit biased. However , Luka has proven in his book that despite the hardships faced , we are able to preserve and create a legacy that defines us.
I like the fact that the beginning of the book sets the scene of Modrić’s defeat in the 2018 World Cup. This is because once I began to read Modrić’s autobiography and his life story , I was emotionally invested in how Luka became the footballer that he was. The book allowed there to be a full cycle moment , in which despite the loss to Croatia , I’ve been able to understand the trials and tribulations that ultimately led up to this moment of losing the World Cup. The ‘Prologue’ pays off , as whilst upset at the fact Luka lost what could have been a monumental moment for his country , I’m proud of Him because of the prior knowledge of his journey. It’s rewarding.

The emotional parts of Modrić’s story hit me hard. When I learnt of how his grandfather had died , I audibly gasped in horror. Jesus fucking Christ. I haven’t read an autobiography in a while that made me sick upon learning of one’s death. I also felt quite heavy when discussing how the whole country views Modrić during his court case. It makes me quite sad , and at the same time angry , about how he was treated during this period.

There are also sweet and wholesome moments , such as how Modrić met Vanja and how the two blossomed into a couple over the years. We get to see a version of Modrić that doesn’t fully focus on his football. It allows me to fully grasp just how much these footballers spend away from their families and their loved ones , which ultimately means every second with them is precious.

Overall , Luka Modrić’s autobiography allows for a great retelling of one of football's greats , from humble and war-torn beginnings to the ultimate cult hero

it was a good balance between his personal life as a football legend for Real Madrid. I think one of the main focuses was the national team as they have had a very good journey over the past decade from reaching the world cup final and getting 3rd place in the FIFA world cup 2022.
