seduction: 2/5 stars
* i was originally drawn to this because i never find any good femdom books. which this was (kinda) but the smut was only okay. nothing really good, which sucked
* reverse harem romances >
* this was stupid. all of it was bad and way too unrealistic to root for the characters.
* she had kids… then killed people in the basement of her kids house?? lord
* no— this was just not good at all
* also, she is a horrible killer. she’s not horrible because she’s a killer, she’s just not good at killing people (which is her whole thing— the plot is that she’s a killer). she leaves evidence everywhere and then was shocked when she realized people were cleaning up for her

I'm very confused about this book and wavered between two or three stars, finally settling on two.

I can't decide if I'm supposed to take it seriously or not. First, I had to wrap my mind around the fact that the FMC is a serial killer and I'm supposed to root for a serial killer. The problem is, if I don't like one of the main characters or don't identify with him/her, it makes it very hard for me to enjoy the story. And since this is RH, Brian is the main character. (Yes, her name is Brian.)

I don't think it's healthy to glorify criminals or crime, especially a crime like murder where you're ending someone's life and you -- plus the victim -- can never come back from that. I don't care if she thought she had good reasons to off the men, I still can't condone or accept it. But this isn't what earned the book a low rating, cos I took Brian at face value; it's like if you don't like doctors but read a book where the main character is a doctor, it's not fair to rate the book low just for that, right? My problems were more with the believability of this story and how unrealistic it was. Oh, and a bombshell that drops in chapter 26.

So we move on to the second thing that made it difficult to take this book seriously. I'm supposed to believe that after the trauma in her past, overnight she turned into a person who can kill a man who's larger and stronger than her quickly and efficiently, using a knife. I mean, if she used a gun it'd at least be more believable. You can practise shooting at a gun range, but how do you practise knifing someone???

Third, she is dumb because she's such an inept serial killer that she leaves trails of DNA behind and needs a group of four men to clear up her messes and keep her out of the crosshairs of the law. And she never thinks about it. She thinks she has been safe because she did it right. Showering in your victims' homes is a sure way of leaving DNA everywhere, silly child! She's supposedly so good at doing research on her victims, but can't even research how to wipe a crime scene clean of evidence?

Fourth, there's this group of men who not only don't mind her being a serial killer (I suppose partly because they can assure themselves that she's only taking out low-life scum), but are turned on by it. In particular, one of the men, Silas, is turned on when she cuts him deep enough to scar and then licks his blood off her blade. She says, "I need to stab someone," and he replies, very seriously, "Cut me." I didn't know how to feel about that.

Fifth, that brings me to the knife play and blood play. Absolutely not my kink, and all I can think about is how messy all that blood must be. And really, getting cut is painful and thereafter showering and feeling all the wounds sting... really not a fan. I cannot understand this at all, not to yuck anyone's yum but it's on my list of hard limits.

Sixth, she is borderline psychotic and the men are encouraging it. She's a psychopath who needs therapy, not needs to be encouraged to kill more. Huxley actually researches and finds a man "worth killing" to give her a new target! Like, what!!! The guys talk about how she's getting unstable and losing control, but they don't seem to have a solid plan to help her stay stable. Or rather, their plan seems to be "getting Brian back into her routine" by helping her to kill regularly. This is why I said I don't know whether I was supposed to take this book seriously, because honestly, at this point the whole story was ludicrous.

Seventh, it gets more ludicrous when she meets another man and decides she can trust him:
"I am a badass. I'm also a serial killer and you were my next victim until I learned that you weren't killing or raping those women."
Seriously, which serial killer goes around admitting that they're one?

There are descriptions of the best way to chop up a human body. I could have done without the explicit information. And I DNF at 75% because something happened that I was not down with.

In short, this book was very weird and difficult to take seriously. I don't think the author was going for a comedic effect, but it read like a parody or satire or something -- I did not for one moment feel the "badassness" of the FMC or feel like she was someone to be feared. She just seemed unbalanced and deranged and silly.

I'm not sure who suggested this book (@BANG book club) but oh my word I'm so glad that they did! This book was sooooo stinking amazing!! The characters were great the killings were bloody and the love was fire!
Bri, sir stabby, and the boys was just the book I needed. And the twist even though I cried the book as still just perfect. Just read the book .

Seduction was definitely a different read for me. Bri was very strong, dominant, and a dash of insane. I liked the twists and turns Whitnay offered during this story.

I wanted to love it, but it slipped the editing stage! SPOILERS

Look, no book is perfect. Even publishing houses put out books with editing errors. This on the other hand was too much. Embicile, lowercase i, redeuve, periods in the wrong place, repeated sentences, barely any commas, missing periods, extra periods, changing tenses… there were enough mistakes to pull me out of the story, which is a shame as I was enjoying it otherwise (well until 69%).

Also, there’s an advantage to having multiple POVs but having three that back track the some moment without adding anything valuable to the story was unnecessary.

Positives:
I haven’t read a book like this one before and I loved how strong Bri was. That she was the one doing the killing and being dominant was so good. I also really like the male characters! And I enjoyed the sexy times and the MM so much.

Negatives:
Aside from the editing I mentioned before, there didn’t really feel like there was an overarching plot, which actually wasn’t the worst. I don’t think we ever got Urlik’s story on why he was down with all of this, just that he loved her. Also, as this was one story I didn’t think would end the way it did, I was disappointed as soon as Bri asked Urlik to make her an appointment.

Spoilers -

I’ve only read one RH where a harem member dies and that fucker totally deserved that shit as he was conniving asshat, but I digress. The death of a harem member in this novel was unnecessary and a waste of a good character. As it stands, I hadn’t become too attached to him at the time of his death so there weren’t even strong emotions on my end. Other than annoyance, because… why? Just why?

This is in dire need of a proofreader, there were spelling mistakes and formatting issues on near every page.

This was sometimes enjoyable, the premise was interesting at least, but failed to deliver. There was a severe lack of engaging plot, things just kind of happened and there was no clear goal to tie the story together so it dragged at times and felt unfulfilling. Some very, err, *interesting* plot decisions were made that made the last quarter of the book a real chore to get through and reduced this from 3 stars to 2.

I enjoyed this story. The plot was amazing. I loved the Dom/ sub relationship. Loved the that there was a avenging serial killer. Bad@ss FMC. There is dark back story. Mention of rape and torture. Active torture and murder.

good

This has a decent premise. I liked the characters. I definitely felt sad for them, I was really hoping for Lady Luck when it came to that point.
There are a lot of editing issues though, so be warned if that bothers you.

Great story but needs better editing

I wanted a dark read and this book hit the spot. The typos were all over the place and if you can't handle that, skip this one.

Unique dynamic

My first Domme book. While it was a good story that kept me interested I felt there were several areas that needed fleshed out further.

Oh Whitnay, this book had me yelling at you. This book was amazing. Typical of Whitnay with a strong, badA FMC who takes on the world and then some with her bare hands. BUT there's this one part of the story that will absolutely destroy you (the part that had me yelling). Be wary. Be ready to read Silas to get his POV. You're welcome. Anyway this is a must read if you like dark romance, serial unaliving, and badA women!
