Rate this book
My name is Morella Rowena Annabelle Byron. It is as pretentious as everything else in my life appears to be. As heir to one-fourth of Caleum, one might expect nothing less. Appearances can be deceiving, though.I am under my father’s complete control and have torn my soul to pieces to perform his dirty work. I have tried to fight against it, but when he gives me an order, I cannot refuse. His latest plot has me engaged to a man I barely know. I am treading on eggshells to make this relationship work while my father, Viktor, is determined to have what he sold me for. A man he sends me to keep quiet blathers on in riddles about the spirit runes, but the runes are nothing more than a myth.Right? The chessboard is set. Viktor is moving pieces two steps ahead of me. I have removed pawns from the board, but I am not the only piece he controls. I am working to uncover his plan and even more desperate to gain my freedom.*Ages 17+ recommended**This book contains scenes of physical abuse

I got so sucked into this story that I didn’t touch my other reads! (Multi reader girlie)

This book was amazing and I’m sad to see it doesn’t have a lot of reviews to it.

There is a lot of abuse by the parents to the kids so fair warning. And the details of that and the kills had me cringing at times.

Fmc is powerful and in line to become the queen but her father uses her and her strength for his own gain and she cannot refuse! Her brother is always there for her but there’s only so much he can do and her sister may as well not be her sister.

Her best friend has known her since childhood. And it’s the kind of friendship that makes you all warm and fuzzy.

The mfc is not at all happy when his parents betroth him to the fmc but eventually that anger goes away and he truly becomes one of my favorites.

Morella (fmc) lives through hell at her father’s hand and doesn’t know what he is really after. It was great figuring things out along or before her. She has a lot of sass and it was funny at times

Little spice and not for a good while so that gets a 1 🌶️ and the writing felt slightly disjointed and had me confused at times thinking I missed something but overall great read and more people should pick this series up!!

I honestly can't believe this book is a debut novel for this author. It's just too good. Excellently written from every character to each plotline and everything in between. Thank goodness the next book in the series is coming out so soon as I don't think I could stand the wait if it wasn't.

Morella, the main character, is so strong she's nearly indestructible. She's cunning and cruel, yet loyal and kind. Watching her break over and over again and mend herself back together was a struggle of pain and pleasure.

Declan, the man who her father has instructed her to marry is an unknown entity and discovering who he truly is inside was even more pleasurable, yet not without pain as well.

This story is dark and delicious with every sense of both words. I highly recommend you grab this book and reserve your copies of the rest of the series right away. You'll be so glad you did!

Amazing, wonderful, and HAVE to read the rest!

Beautifully written, excellent plot, and need more! Morello has MANY trials, and most are heart-wrenching. Such a strongly written character.

I was given this book a gift a while ago and have only recently sat down to read it. I have to commend the author for creating such an imaginative world. They most certainly have taken the time to carefully build a world full of a vast array of characters and history. The story itself is intriguing with plenty of situations which are full of peril, magic and mayhem.

I have to be honest, I found this book to be quite a struggle. Not the fault of author I have to point out, because I believe the story is aimed towards young adults, who may enjoy this type of story than I did. However, that doesn't mean it's poorly written, far from it - it is a well written piece of work.

So if you like fantasy tales with magic and strange mythology then this might be for you.

An unbelievably excellent read and I can't wait for the rest of the series!

This new author has created characters and a storyline that will live in the recesses of my brain for years and years to come.

This story is brutal at times but deliciously so. Cunning and dark and oh, so incredibly captivating. And the characters...!

Morella is stronger than even she realizes, loyal and kind and caring, yet twisty and easily cruel when needed while Declan is an unknown for the most part. I don't want to give anything away but discovering Declan's true intentions and desires was one of the most gripping aspects for me as I adore a brooding hero. :)
