BOOK 1: THE APOTHECARY’S DAUGHTER Detective Ray Flowers’ life is blown apart by a petrol bomb attack. No one can tell him who did it. Or why. Anchorless and alone, he moves to his aunt’s country cottage. What he needs is perspective. Instead, he is tormented by visions of Kitty Hallam, a troubled young woman accused of witchcraft back in 1643. Is she a figment of Flowers’ imagination or something more?
BOOK 2: THE UNWILLING SON It started with a gang of drifters, dreamers and dropouts. Together, they were the Eyes of God. Eleven years ago, this cult wreaked havoc on Ray Flowers’ hometown. Flowers put their leader, a cold-blooded killer named Harrison Lee, behind bars. Without him, the Eyes chose mass suicide. Five-year-old Katie Fellows was trapped in their commune and would have died too — were it not for a mysterious young boy. Years later, teenaged Katie still sees him in her dreams. Her instincts tell her she needs him more than ever. But can Katie trust her rescuer? Or is the Eyes’ hold on him too strong? Lee may be dead, but there’s a new heir to his twisted legacy.
BOOK 3: THE DROWNING MEN A drug supplier known as Angel Eyes is back on the streets. They called him Angel Eyes, after the insignia he left behind at every crime scene — a pair of innocent blue eyes on a shred of paper. Detective Martin Galloway, Ray Flowers’ old workmate, never stopped hunting for Angel Eyes. The trail ended in madness, addiction and despair. Now Angel Eyes and his toxic products are back and there’s no one left to break Angel Eyes’ stranglehold on the city. Except maybe Ray Flowers.
Great storylines, well developed characters enough plot twists to make putting the set down almost impossible. Am very excited to read more adventures.
An exciting thriller series with a complex character, Ray Flowers. A police detective who, after an incident, decided to retire and become a private investigator, with George, an old colleague. These three books are very helpful in showing his ability and tenacious nature. I enjoyed the books, which were very different from each other. The characters were well crafted and believable. They interacted with a reality that was convincing and exciting.
I have reviewed each story separately so will just say that these crime dramas have plenty of action, are well-written and fast-paced.
I liked Ray Flowers because of his determination to do the right thing. His scars, both outward and inward, made him a well-developed character that suited each story. I liked his open mind regarding the supernatural elements, in itself, making these stories different.
Wonderful and unusual plot, extremely well-written and beautifully descriptive, I can't wait to read more of her books. I thoroughly recommend this series.
I enjoyed the characters of these books. The three stories were good at dragging you in,I particularly liked the slightly different effect by using spirits and as in the first book it became two stories tied together in to one. Highly recommend
First read when originally published and loved it then. Revisited this week as we were away camping and really enjoyed all over again. Ray is a very believable - and likeable - character. Plots are tight and twisty. Jane at her best.
3 books all so different, yet all intriguing in their own ways. If you like a read that you find hard to put down, especially at night, then this set on D.I. Ray Flowers will do it for you.
