Attractive forty two year old, recently divorced Deborah from Detroit volunteers to go to her company's branch in Rio de Janeiro to promote U.S. products in South America. However, the course of events take her by surprise: In Rio instead of being given tasks related to her profession as a marketer, she's entrusted with leading a technical project of which she doesn't have a clue. Despite much skepticism from the side of the local team, she is encouraged to continue working as the lead by the sexy twenty nine year old software expert Andre, who declares he is ready to help her through thick and thin. After a roller coaster of crazy events, Deborah finds herself sleeping in the arms of the athletic Andre, and finds much tranquility in his soothing words, but she is still skeptic. Is there a catch? Is Andre just being helpful and friendly to jump with her in bed? Does he have an axe to grind?
This book felt more like it was a stream of conscious taken from an ongoing daily diary. Some of the word choices said author is not a native English speaker. The word choice in the beginning of the book made me think it was two men being intimate…which confused me since the blurb said female. Many other word choices would have me scratching my head “yucky parts” or another word choice where the word meant something completely different to what was happening in the scene.
Deborah acted like she was in her eighties and not in her forties at times with her lamenting about the age difference. If she was a man pursuing a younger woman no one would even think twice about it.
While I had empathy for how she was treated by many of her chauvinistic male counterparts I was not able to connect with her. It may be the writing style where it was paragraph after paragraph with at times mundane stuff that didn’t help the situation. The stiltedness of the interactions, for me there was never a nice easy flow to the conversations or to the descriptions. It seemed to be caught trying to paint an almost poetic feel to the material while struggling to convey emotion and interaction without a firm grasp of the English language.
I received an ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.
I enjoyed this steamy romance story. This is a new author for me which I enjoyed how well written it was as well as their attention to details. This is a fast paced, engaging story that has characters that are connectable and kept me turning pages. They made the story come to life on each page. This is a story about Deborah and Andre. She finds herself in a lead position of a project and working along side of him. He is hot, steamy but there could be more than meets the eye with his helpfulness. What happens between these two you don't want to miss. They have great chemistry and growth throughout the story. I highly recommend this book.
