A house with a history. A boy with a grudge. And a detective who will stop at nothing to get to the truth.
Gregory knows something is wrong with his house. His parents don’t believe him, but he can feel it – and he’s frightened.
DC Rose Gifford is called out after neighbours report a series of disturbances at the property, and she can feel it too. She knows Gregory and his family are in danger, and she knows that it will be down to her specialist supernatural crimes team to uncover the truth.
Something terrible happened at number 42 Wyndham Terrace. And it’s Rose’s job to find out what.
CS Green's London based DC Rose Gifford series is not really about crime although there are plentiful police officers, its more a chilling supernatural mystery series with elements of horror. This is my first taste of the series, the protagonist, Rose has a traumatic background, including a life threatening supernatural encounter that almost ended her life. Still missing her friend and boss, DS Colin 'Mack' Mackie from her previous police role, she is now part of the strange Uncharted Crimes Investigation Unit (UNIU), still trying to find her feet and working with black DC Adam Lacey, under boss Sheila Moony. She and Adam are tasked with visiting 42 Wyndham Terrace where there have been escalating nasty neighbour disputes over a period of several months that include loud noises and dumping of rubbish. The dominating Adam Fuller, with an important teaching role, lives at the house with his wife, Heather, and their over-schooled 12 year old son, Gregory.
Adam is convinced the source of their ongoing problems is neighbour Eric Quin but Rose can sense there is far more to this. She is right, Gregory is a frightened boy whose concerns are dismissed by his parents, this is a malevolent house of whispers, and Gregory is convinced there is a ghost boy living in the walls. As they try to figure out if Gregory is an over-stressed boy being pushed too far by his ambitious parents or is in fact speaking the truth, matters exacerbate when he goes missing. As the police scramble to find him in a frantic investigation led by DCI Brian Mortimer, it emerges the Fullers spooky home has a macabre history. In the past, a young 18 year old Heather Doyle set fire to the house, wiping out her entire family. Rose is determined to find Gregory, but her personal life is a mess and she is being haunted by her mother, actually grandmother, Adele, and experiences terrifying encounters with psychic Felicity Gordon and finds herself forcefully flung at a wall in a empty room.
Green writes a tense and suspenseful mystery, well plotted, and with a fascinating protagonist in Rose, afflicted with a PTSD that is sapping all her energies and a trauma that needs addressing, on top of all this there are worrying appearances of Adele's ghost which suggests some unresolved business. To be honest, I am not sure how Rose makes it through the day, and as for poor Gregory, saddled with parents that have isolated him, refusing to let him live a normal life, and cannot connect with him at all, he is trapped in a house that rightly scares him. This is a dark, engaging and intense read that will appeal to readers who like strong elements of the supernatural in their mysteries. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
I really enjoyed the blend of a police procedural with a supernatural twist.
Despite jumping in at the second book in the series, I instantly took a liking to DC Rose Gifford and her team.
The story centres around a series of disturbances at 42 Wyndham Terrace as Ruth's and the Uncharted Crimes Investigation Unit (UCIT) team are called in, especially as 12-year-old Gregory knows that somethings wrong.
I liked how creepy and chilling this novel was. The plot flowed smoothly as the short chapters kept enticing me to read just one more...
I will have to look out for the first book in this series now!
12 year old Gregory knows something is wrong in his house. He hears whispers, bad whispers. And then there's the boy in the wall...
Oh wow this was absolutely incredible! Rose was a fantastic main character, and her blessing relationship with Adam is such a beautiful addition to the story.
Let's talk about how chilling this book is - because there was parts that gave me goosebumps! It made me think of how you never really know the full history of a house... which is also pretty scary!
This is due to be published 21/07 - preorder/add to your list if you love a good, chilling, spooky story!
The second book in the Rose Gifford series a detective with a gift. What happened at 42 Wyndam Terrace and why is Gregory a twelve year old boy who resides at this address afraid to go home??? These questions and more will be answered in this chilling tale. I devoured this book in one sitting, got my heart racing and at times chilled me to the bone. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Another great read from CS Green. Rose is a Detective with UCIT and her and the team investigate unusual crimes that some believe are linked to the supernatural. Rose and Adam are asked to visit a family who have had some strange things happen. They are blaming their neighbours but when Rose and Adam speak to the neighbours, it’s clear they were not involved. The activity seems to centre around the teenage son but Rose can’t work out what is really happening at first. This is a gripping thriller with a supernatural twist. Thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I was really excited to get a copy of the Whisper House. This is book two in the DC Rose Gifford series and I love the first one with how basically there was the element of supernatural introduced to a normal everyday crime. This one was no different this one had a spooky house. A little boy can hear whispers, and these whispers are not nice! They say horrible things.
Rose and her new team, because she’s now in her new team. Go to the address to try and help and find out what’s going on. What is uncovered is something I never expected.
I must admit my attention did wane a little bit this time, when the last part I was so hooked and riveted on the story. I did kind of lose track, listening to the audiobook in different bits. The plot itself was fascinating with how it makes you decide whether or not it really is a ghost.
Rose is still being haunted by Adele and things are ramping up there. It appears we have three different storylines that are linked in a way that I didn’t expect and it’s quite sad when you see when you hear how the first oldest storyline plays out.
I’m definitely invested in this series and after the ending, we have with this book. I need to know what’s going to happen next and I need it now. I’m really enjoying the series.
I may not like this book as much as the first book, but I still liked this book. It was still something I want to read. I’m just in love with the fact that it’s something different. It’s not just a crime. It’s something that will delve into the supernatural and it will make you question what is happening. Is it real? I love things like that. I love that this book pushes you out there. And yes, I really can’t wait for the next book.
When DC Rose Gifford is called out to investigate a series of disturbances at 42 Wyndham Terrace, the Fullers are convinced it’s the neighbours causing the problems.
It’s only their son, Gregory, who thinks otherwise - he says it’s the boy in the wall 😱
This was part police procedural, part supernatural thriller and not one to read in bed at night. It’s one to really creep you out!
I really liked Rose’s character and her ‘ability’ although it was downplayed in the way that she wasn’t brought in as a medium as such, but as part of an Uncharted Crimes investigation Unit. A team for investigating the extraordinary.
This was fast moving, exciting and with a dual timeline which I loved. I was eager to find out what the story behind 42 Wyndham Terrace was.
Although this was the second book featuring Rose Gifford it certainly reads as a standalone and one I’d recommend if you’re looking for something a bit spooky!
This is an intriguing psychological thriller, one that definitely sends shivers down your spine and makes your imagination run riot.
It's the second book to feature DC Rose Gifford but can be read easily as a standalone. There were some references to the first book which made me want to go back and read it.
There is lots going on throughout the book so it feels quite action packed. It was hard for me to get my head round the supernatural side of things but it added a different dimension to the storyline. I loved how dark and chilling the author made it.
I really liked the group of detectives, they made a fab team and the author added snippets of their background within the storyline which gives you a good insight into the characters. I can see this developing into a really good series.
If you are a fan of a psychological thriller and enjoy supernatural elements in your reading then you should add this to your list.
Interesting concept. I really liked multiple povs, especially Vincent's. Took away a star for 3rd person pov as reading "he said" "she said" isn't my favourite
I love the idea of having a supernatural crime team. An underfunded team that try to solve those crimes that don't appear to fit the agenda for any other team. You can imagine how they would fit in against the other detectives too, so I enjoyed reading about how Rose and her colleagues were viewed in the ranks of the police force.
The Whisper House is a quick and easy read that definitely kept me hooked all the way through it. It's creepy and intriguing, and makes you question every noise coming from the house when you're settling down to sleep.
I believe this is the 2nd book in the DC Rose Gifford series, but it works fine as a standalone (although I'd like to read the first one now to get a bit more of an understanding of Rose's character).
I highly recommend this book to those who want a good thriller read with a spooky element.
This was a good little crime story with a supernatural twist. I'll admit it took me a minute to get into it but the pace started to pick up with the mixture of chapters from the boys, especially Vincent. There's a big theme around neglect and it's sad that even though Gregory "had everything" he didn't have nurture which maybe why he was so susceptible to Vincent. That ending though, I can't tell if I'm mad or not yet....
This was a weird one, paranormal isn't usually my genre but this grabbed me for some reason, it was a good storyline, I enjoyed the authors writing style and will probably pick up otherd if they are a different sub genre of thriller. If you like paranormal then you will love this as it is well written and the characters detailed and relatable.
After reading Sleep Tight by C S Green and loving it, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the second book in this fantastic series – The Whisper House. Was it as good as the first book? Yes! Was it even spookier than the first book? Definitely! Will you need to sleep with the lights on? Absolutely!
DC Rose Gifford is sent to investigate some bizarre goings-on at a property, could it be nightmare neighbours or is something more supernatural going on? 12-year-old Gregory insists there is some paranormal activity in his home, the poor boy has been hearing whispers in the walls and has even been hurt physically. His parents don’t believe him, although I think his mum does but is scared to admit it. Thank heavens for Gregory that Rose is not a sceptic and with her own hidden talent of seeing the dead, she is the perfect person to find out what is happening in his house and why!
Rose Gifford is one of my favourite book characters ever. I wish this was already a ten-book series that I’d just come across so I could binge-read the lot! Instead, I must wait eagerly for the next instalment and with the way this book ended I can tell you I’m more excited for the next book than I am for Christmas! (Believe me, I love Christmas!) We have got to know more about Rose and her backstory in this book and I love how that runs alongside the main part of the story. She is such a likeable character, and when I am reading, I feel like I am her and seeing everything through her eyes! I am rooting for her in every aspect, her work life, her home life and even her love life – which definitely needs some work, but I’m positive we will see something develop for her in the future. I am also looking forward to her personal story playing out more as we read through the series.
My favourite thing about this book is how chilling it is! Many authors don’t go quite dark enough in their books, possibly for fear that the readers won’t like it. C S Green does not hold back in this book, and I am so glad because it makes the story so different from anything I’ve read and has me gripped and spooked throughout. The twists and turns along the way were fabulous, and I did not see any of them coming.
This book is perfectly paced, expertly written and spine-tingly good! After reading both books in this series I have realised I am definitely a fan of stories that feature the unexplained. Do you believe in ghosts? I do, and this kind of story has my imagination working overtime!
Admittedly this book is not one for the faint-hearted, but it is one I highly recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller and doesn’t mind getting a bit spooked!
Thank you to the author C S Green, HarperCollins and NetGalley for my early copy of this book. Also, an extended thank you to the author Caroline for inspiring me to write and teaching me in one of her previous crime and thriller writer’s courses. I can only hope to write something as amazing as this story one day.
I did enjoy reading The Whisper House by Cass Green, a detective supernatural crime thriller which is book 2 of the Rose Gifford series before reading book 1 which is called Sleep tight but both are stand alone books. I usually do not read any books which involve the supernatural at all but this thriller surprised me.
At 42 Wyndham Terrace there is a family of three which include Gwen and Anton Fuller and their twelve year old son Graham. They make a complaint to the Police that they are experiencing harassment, noise which involved banging on their walls and rubbish left on their doorstep. Their neighbours deny it all which is very strange indeed. Their son, Graham is experiencing more than things going bump into the night in more ways than one.
Detective Constable Rose Gifford along with DC Adam Lacey who both work for UCIT which is an unchartered crimes investigation unit which was founded by a former Chief Superintendent Henry Tolhurst whose wife and child disappeared one night whilst he was sleeping in his own house. Henry committed suicide when the case was never solved. He left his inheritance to be invested in the UCIT which was quite like the X Files as this unit investigated estoric and off-grid crimes.
Rose Gifford has her own past which apparently goes back to book 1 Sleep Tight and has left her with PTSD which she swears she does not suffer from. Also she is also psychic just like her Mother, Adele was and had sadly passed away ten years ago who worked as a medium in Rose's childhood home.
42 Wyndham Terrace a house that was built in 1899 was redeveloped and as the mystery unfolds it reveals that in 2006 there was a multiple murder which was committed by an eighteen year old daughter who poured petrol through the letterbox which killed her seventy-five year old grandmother, forty-seven year old Father and her half brother aged only five years old.
Then in 1971 42 Wyndham Terrace was occupied by a hippie commune where Vincent and his Mother Rowan who are both making a fresh start after leaving when Rowan's husband a long distance lorry driver started being abusive to her son which was the last straw. There is a mystery to what became of a female who resided there at that time.
Rose Gifford feels something dead but still alive in both in her own home and also in 42 Wyndham Terrace.
The story: When DS Rose Gifford and her colleagues at UCIT (the Uncharted Crimes Investigation Unit) are asked to visit 42 Wyndham Terrace to follow up on some complaints, they know it will be more than the usual problem of noisy neighbours. UCIT is called in when there’s more to a case than meets the eye… and in this case a young boy living in the house believes it means him and his family harm. Is he just acting out against his overbearing parents, or could there be some truth in his claims, and something supernatural is at work?
My thoughts: In preparation for taking part in the blog tour for “The Whisper House” I first read (or rather, listened to!) the audiobook of the first in the Rose Gifford series, “Sleep Tight”. And while this was helpful in setting the scene (and I do like to read books in order when I can!), this book could definitely be read as a standalone.
The first book set up Rose’s background and ended with her joining the UCIT team, and this second instalment picks up very soon after the events of that book. Rose is starting to embrace her new role, but at the same time is struggling to fully accept that such a department could exist, especially given that she has always tried to bury her own supernatural experiences and try to live a ‘normal’ life after her difficult upbringing.
At heart this is very much a police procedural, but the addition of the supernatural element really made it stand out for me. While on the surface this is a story of a haunted house, the trope is grounded in realism as the story unfolds and we get to know the history of Wyndham Terrace and its residents. Rose is a likeable, flawed and interesting character, and I look forward to following her story in the next book (the plot of which is intriguingly set up at the end of this one!).
When Rose Gifford, a police officer working for the Uncharted Crimes Investigation Unit (UCIT), is called out to 42 Wyndham Terrace following countless reports of disturbances from the owners of the property, she knows there is more to it than just troublesome neighbours, because she can feel it too and she's ready to uncover the truth of what happened at this property in the past and why Gregory and his parents are in danger if she and the UCIT team don't act fast...
The Whisper House sees the return of Rose Gifford and the UCIT team, who have been drafted in to help solve another crime with a supernatural element in London, this time with a family who believe it's all down to their neighbours, but Rose who has a special 'gift' is certain the problem is inside the Fullers house and, although she's struggling with what happened to her the year before and still settling in to her new role, she is determined to get to the bottom of it. It's great to see Rose again and watch how her relationship with the rest of the team has developed, especially Adam. This second book in the series is fast paced, just like the first, Sleep Tight, which I really enjoyed, it's action packed, dark, chilling and not for the faint hearted, and with that ending I'm really looking forward to book three! This book can be read as a standalone, but to better understand the background of some of the characters, I'd suggest reading them in order. Another great read from this author!
I'd like to thank HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
✨ Police procedural thrillers ✨ Paranormal/supernatural plots ✨ Interesting characters with a dark past ✨ A touch of cult-like vibes
𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
Engaging, cleverly-plotted, and genuinely pretty creepy: this was a super quick and enjoyable read. This is actually the second book in the series, but there was enough background information given throughout the plot that I found it easy enough to follow the storyline.
I love police procedural-based thrillers, and I also love a hint of the paranormal, and this book is the perfect blend of both, following what is essentially a supernatural crime investigative team. The main protagonist is DC Rose Gifford, who was an interesting, kind, but troubled character, and the points hinting at the trauma she'd experienced the year previous definitely has me intrigued to pick up the first book. We also see a couple of chapters written from Vincent's perspective, and these definitely gave me ‘the family upstairs’ vibes.
The writing style wasn't my favourite - it wasn't badly written by any means, I just didn't gel personally with the way it read! This isn’t a book packed to the brim with shocking twists, but nonetheless, it was a definite page turner which had me flying through to figure out more of the 'boy in the wall' and Gregory's fears. (I'm not ashamed to admit I was definitely putting this down long before it was dark though!) This is also currently 99p on kindle!
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫:
I was provided a prepublication review copy of this book from the publisher for blog tour purposes in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
In the first book, Sleep Tight, Rose Gifford helped stop a murderer who was killing women with sleep disorders, and was using a supernatural ability to do so. Her world was turned upside down not just by the revelation that the supernatural existed, but by the fact that the visions she was having of her dead mother were not a sign of mental illness. Rose can see and feel ghosts, and she has absolutely no idea why her mother is hanging around.
In The Whisper House Rose is still coming to terms with what all this means, and as she starts her first real case with UCIT, she’s not quite sure if the team is where she belongs. Her ability to see ghosts terrifies her, and when the team is called to advise on a series of disturbances at a property that looks like a neighbour dispute it’s her abilities and her past that helps her recognise that something else is happening. She’s drawn to the child that lives at 42 Wyndham Terrace, recognising Gregory’s experiences in her own. Things begin to escalate in the house and Gregory goes missing, turning the case into something much more serious.
Like the first book, Green has written an unmissable thriller that is dark and gritty. The Whisper House contains flash back scenes which add another dimension to the story, giving the house a voice of its own to tell the story from its perspective. We learn more about the UCIT team, their personal lives and their history and there’s an intriguing side story that leads to sinister knowledge about Rose’s family. The book ends in a cliffhanger that may help Rose resolve some of the questions she’s been seeking answers to or lead to even more.
As with the first book there continues to be disability representation, this time with the addition of PTSD as Rose struggles to deal with what happened to her in Sleep Tight. I also appreciated a moment of real disability representation when Rose is taking pain medication, co-codamol. Green doesn’t shy away from mentioning that Rose is constipated and feeling bloated, two very common side effects of that particular medication. Even just making a point of including her taking medication and naming it is unusual, let alone referencing the side effects. Rarer still is openly talking about bowel symptoms and conditions even though everyone deals with these things from time to time (we all eat and drink!). For anyone thinking they didn’t need to know this detail, I want to add that this fits perfectly with Rose and the narrative style Green utilises throughout the book. It is just like her to comment on it, take note of it and file it away as not important right now because she has a case to work on. That is exactly what she does in this instance and with many more things that are not case related.
The Whisper House is a great addition to the Rose Gifford series which is proving to be a wonderful addition to urban fantasy crime fiction. Green is slowly teasing out the boundaries of the supernatural in the series, and it’s going to be fun to follow that path with Rose and the team. If you love crime mixed with the supernatural then you’ll love Sleep Tight and The Whisper House by C S Green!
A spooky supernatural murder mystery? Oh, go on then!
12 year old Gregory knows there is something wrong with his house but his parents don't want to hear it. Finally, after a series of neighbour complaints a special police dept set up to investigate paranormal crime attend. DC Rose Gifford has an (unwanted!) knack for seeing what others can't, and immediately knows there is a presence in the house.
Things escalate quickly when Gregory goes missing, and the team have to look deeper into the seemingly benign history of the house, uncovering the shocking and tragic truth.
This was a fast paced page turner that I devoured quickly. The supernatural elements within the Whisper House were understated and insidious (kids and attics are the things that creep me out the most!), although I didn't enjoy the personal haunting of Rose as much. It felt a little too much and I have no idea how she even functions!
It's the second book in the Rose Gifford series and I think I would have benefited from reading the first to get the context as she is clearly suffering from PTSD which affects a lot of her decision making in this.
The idea of the UCIT department was interesting and novel, although as a police sergeant in an understaffed busy division in Manchester, this seemed even more unlikely than the ghost of a boy in the house walls!!
Overall a creepy intriguing read for those who like their murder mystery with a slice of the paranormal.
The Whisper House by C S Green The Whisper House is the second novel in a series featuring lead character DC Rose Gifford, but can easily be read as a standalone. Rose is 30 years old and works for UCIT – the Uncharted Crimes Investigation Unit. Uncharted in this case means supernatural. She fancies her colleague DC Adam Lacey, divorced dad of two daughters. I hadn’t read anything like this before – a police drama/thriller with a supernatural element to it, so I fancied giving it a go. Anton Fuller (a teacher), his wife Gwen (a housewife) and their twelve-year-old son Gregory live at 42 Wyndham Terrace. They have been reporting “neighbour harassment” to the police for months, though the neighbours seem to be innocent. When Rose and Adam go round to the house, Gwen is open to the idea of a supernatural cause, whereas Anton is not. Gregory is just strange… It's a really intriguing story, I wasn’t sure which way it was going to go. I have read lots of crime and thriller books, but this one is unique. It had excellent pacing and was a real page turner. It is a really well-constructed story too. Just as you think it’s going off in one direction, something happens to make you rethink. It never becomes confusing though, it is beautifully handled by the author. Although this is the first novel by C S Green that I have read, I am sure it won’t be the last. I was really impressed and would love to read more of DC Rose Gifford’s adventures. 9 out of 10
This was a quick and engaging read - though I was unaware it was the second in a series when I started.
I enjoyed getting to know both Rose and Adam, and whilst I wish I'd read the first book for more insight to the characters, this does work fine as a standalone. I couldn't figure out if I actually felt sorry for Vincent or not - was he in the right or did he just misinterpret the situations? The ending sets up nicely for another book in the series and I hope a romantic relationship between Adam and Rose develops in that one.
I felt this was missing a little something, everything seemed to run along too smoothly - I was waiting for the "shock" moment. I also felt there were some unresolved issues surrounding Gregory and his "neglect" (for want of a better term).
It was a good read, one I'm glad I've read - also, I do want to go back and read the first in the series.
*I received a complimentary copy of the e-book from InstaBookTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The second book in the series, The Whisper House follows DC Rose Gifford as she is getting to grips with her new role within the police force. Now working with Moony's UCIT team, Rose is put on the case of 42 Wyndham Terrace; a family home that has had a spate of disputes with the neighbours over banging on the walls and vandalism in the garden. The neighbours vehemently deny this... could there be something more to this case?
Another great instalment of the series. Just like the first, this book is very easy to read and the chapters are a good length. There is a really food mix of suspense and mystery throughout and I devoured the book in one sitting. Rose's character is written really well and is believable as she struggles to deal with PTSD and being haunted by her grandmother. This book is certainly spookier than the first and definitely leaves a sense of unease as the pages are turned.
This was without a doubt, one of my favourite books of the year. Its so cleverly written and has so many twists and turns that it's just a sheer joy to lose yourself in this plot for a get hrs. I was dying to see just where it was all going and I wasn't disappointed. They're not so overly supernatural so as to end up cliche or cheesy and not so lacking in supernatural that you spend the book just waiting for something weird to actually happen....... these are just perfect. It builds the tension and suspense and there's enough weird suggest something unusual, but not in your face enough to make it overly done. You literally just can't stop reading until you know the truth. The characters are all well written and all unique and distinct, the pace is keep going throughout without any lulls or filler chapters. Omg did I mention the slight uneasy feeling that you have when you sit up reading it after dark...... it absolutely get under your skin. Recommend
Holy Moley! I hope the authors nearly finished writing book 3 in this series, I need to get my hands on a copy NOW!!
I've read both of the first two in a week and the cliffhanger ending guarantees I'll be reading the third.
42 Wyndham Terrace - Following a series of disturbances the Unchartered Crimes Investigation Unit are called in to have a look. The minute DC Rose Gifford enters the house she knows somethings wrong, a check of the house's previous history does nothing to calm her suspicions.
A police procedural with leanings towards the supernatural this is a well written, well paced novel that once started I didn't put down until I'd finished. Totally recommended.
This is the second in the DC Rose Gifford series and could easily be read as a standalone but to appreciate Rose's own backstory, I'd definitely recommend starting with Sleep Tight the first in the series.
This is the second instalment of the DC Rose Gifford series by C. S. Green and although I haven’t read the first one, I was able to follow the storyline well and it gave some information as to what had happened in the first to allow context into Rose’s character. It’s much more of a supernatural mystery than a police procedural, although the police do have roles within the story. Gregory is a 12-year old boy who resides a 42 Wyndham Terrace but not all is as it seems, the boy in the wall isn’t happy and Gregory is afraid. The storyline ran at a good pace and I enjoyed the combination of crime and supernatural, there was a good balance without it being too in your face or over the top. I like the element of the supernatural not just in the case itself but within Rose’s personal life as well, I’m intrigued and can’t wait to find out more about this side of the story. This is a quick, enjoyable and easy read. I’ve rated 4 stars as there are a few questions that needed answering for me but I think they will come in book three!
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to @instabooktours, @harpercollinspr and to C.S. Green for allowing me a copy of this book and to be on tour.
This is the second book in a series but can be read as a standalone so I didn’t feel as if I was missing out or lost at any point.
Its a very fast paced thriller with lots of twists and turns and I quite enjoyed the supernatural element thrown in to the book. It was a quick read once I got into the book and I found myself wanting to read more when I had to stop. C.S Green definitely knows how to create a lot of tension and suspense and knows how to have the readers on the edge of their seats.
A thoroughly enjoyable, thrilling read! Another cracker for @instabooktours and huge round of applause to C.S Green!
The return of DC Rose Gifford and the UCIT Team was a pleasing find on NetGalley after last year’s excellent Sleep Tight.
This Dark and tightly plotted supernatural thriller was a joy to read as Rose and the team take on the case of some neighbours arguing over disturbing noises and events in a house in London.
A slick and well paced mystery plays out, with Rose suffering from both PTSD amongst other things. CS Green writes a fine story and I enjoyed supernatural twists to this. At times it feels macabre and creepy and that’s the remit here which is nailed with aplomb.
Superb stuff and I have high hopes for more from Rose Gifford
Absolutely loved this book, I was gripped right from the start. This book is the second book in the DC Rose Gifford series, it can be read as a standalone.
I really liked Rose she is such a likeable character. I am intrigued as to what happened in the first book so I need to read that one asap to find out.
There is a very creepy edge to this story and it’s not for the faint hearted but I loved it. I really enjoyed the supernatural element to the story aswell.
I’m definitely looking forward to the next instalment in the series to find out what awaits Rose next.
Thank you to Instabooktours and @harpercollins for having me on the tour and for my gifted copy of the book.
A gripping read that kept me awake at night! A thoroughly satisfying plot, great characters, and enough balance between supernatural twists and scientific or plausible explanations. This isn't a grown up version of Scooby Doo - the pesky kids aren't stopping some creepy old men, but instead the dead are trying to contact the living to settle unfinished business. DC Rose Gifford just happens to be able to recognise the dead, despite not wanting to have anything to do with them. I'm looking forward to the next novel in this series because poor Rose deserves a decent night's sleep undisturbed by the dead.
