Oh mayn, this book is a gem that every household should have. Nifty : Clean and Organized is a well organised handy book with cleaning and organization tips . These tips were well explained and easy to follow. I absolutely how it also caters for small spaces as well as DIY ideas that were exciting that I cannot wait to try out.
A huge thanks to Adams Media for a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Definitely for people with smaller homes but had some tips on cleaning the stovetop and microwave that I will be using. Thankfully this lacks some of the self-promotion that other books in this genre tend to have.. (the always-ironic advice to buy more ‘decluttering’ paraphernalia)… this book isn’t a good listen, the actual book is needed to reference.
Easy book with good pictures. It’s full of ideas… not much I hadn’t read before but a few reminders. It did motivate me to organize a couple cabinets. That’s worth it.
NIFTY: Clean & Organized is an accessible and streamlined collection of decluttering and cleaning tips collected and curated by BuzzFeed's NIFTY. Due out 2nd Nov 2021 from Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 208 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.
These short tips are arranged thematically by room: kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, workspace, garage & outdoors, and extra spaces. Some of them are self evident and basic, but there are also a lot of creative and usable tutorials here for space saving solutions and organization in every room. Graphic icons in the headers show which tips are particularly suited for DIYers, readers interested in money-saving ideas, and those which are good for small spaces.
The layout and graphics are clean and uncluttered. The book is peppered with clear color photos which are easy to understand (including the tutorials). This is a simple, practical, easy to use book. It would be a great choice for library acquisition, home library, maker's groups, or for folks newly living on their own as the tips are especially beginner friendly and require little in the way of exotic tools/supplies.
Four stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
NIFTY: CLEAN & ORGANIZED is a fairly straightforward book of tips and tricks for a tidy home.
However, it left something to be desired. Often, a tip would be presented, but then it's left to the reader to do supplemental research. For example, the book advocates for getting rid of chargers that don't charge, cables with no corresponding appliances, frayed power cords and tiny phones. I think most people are on board with that! But... how? Do those things belong in the landfill? Recycling center? Would Goodwill want them? Another nonprofit? The book doesn't say.
I think this is problematic in that deciding where things should go is a big part of decluttering and organizing. And it's my grand hope that most people have better intentions than simply throwing anything they don't want into a garbage bag (at the very least, I'd love for books not to recommend that route).
Listening to the audiobook, it was hard to picture several of the DIY projects. I expected that going in, but it would have been nice to have a supplemental pdf for listeners.
I'd recommend this book to those moving into their first home or who haven't cleaned out a cabinet in the past year -- this isn't an awful way to pick up some basics and find some inspiration. If you're the kind of person who already uses organizers in your closet and has a big jug of vinegar on hand for cleaning, I'm not sure you'll find much new here.
This is well-organized, solid advice. There are general cleaning and organization tips, plus extra instruction for specific situations like small spaces, rental homes, etc. I was pleased to see some ideas and tips I'd never heard before, and it's always nice to find something new!
There were instructions for several DIY projects as well, mostly for small furniture items like entryway seating or a storage table. They seemed easy enough for an experienced beginner and used readily available supplies.
This would be a great read for people getting settled into their first home, but also for people looking to organize and spruce up their existing place.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Nifty: Clean and Organized gives practical and handy tips for your home. I liked some of the photos, but there’s something about the Font that I didn’t like. Maybe it’s just me, and I’m a little how they format “coffee table” books. I would have liked more photos, especially if you’re the type of person that needs visualization. I highly appreciated the step-by-step cleaning and decluttering instructions. I would recommend this book to those interested in cleaning and organizing tips that come in a book.
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to give an honest review of this arc from Netgalley. :)
It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. There was useful information in this book but the way it was written was like a listicle article. As I flipped through he pages I felt like I was going through someone's cleaning Pinterest board. The information was useful I just don't think it provided deep information that you couldn't find in a quick google search.
I received this book for free in exchange of an honest review.
A useful and informative guide to cleaning and organizing just about every space in your house (or apartment). The ideas are a mix of DYI and inexpensive purchases and some are geared specifically to small living spaces (like studio apartments and cottages). I marked several tips I'm looking forward to trying.
My favorite tip at the moment? Using white toothpaste to remove stubborn tea stains from my mugs. Nontoxic and inexpensive!
A quick read the provides precisely the information the title and subtitle indicate--tips on keeping your house clean and organized. The book also contains instructions for DIY projects, recipes for all-natural cleaning supplies, and tips on how often some things in your home should be cleaned. Most surprisingly, the book has an INDEX. Yay for the index. #NIFTY #NetGalley
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I liked many of the ideas presented in this book. It has plenty of hacks to beautify and keep your house clean. The only thing I would add are more pictures. This would help the reader to visualize the final product.
Some decent tips for various rooms in the house, and some DIYs and saving hacks. Some multipurpose tips as well. Overall an easy and quick read to get you into it.
There are many tips on keeping your house clutter free through this streamlined book with clean illustrations that gave me motivation to attack some cluttering issues in the house.
