Rate this book
A hot-headed thrash Metal bassist struggles with his abusive family history that affects his future with his House Songstress fiancé. World-renowned Ramiro Espinoza, the bassist/vocalist of the Heavy Metal band "IRATE" seemed to have it all on stage. But backstage, Ramiro's life was far from perfect. He was raised in a household, where his father constantly threw bible verses in his face. On top of that, he, his mother, and his sister endured lots of physical and emotional abuse.Music was an outlet for Ramiro, where he learned to play the bass guitar and later found his voice to sing. He sang lyrics about his bad relationship with his father and other issues that vexed him along with fast, aggressive tunes. Ramiro and two other bandmates formed a trio that captivated listeners in the millions. His girlfriend Noelle, an African-American House/Techno Songstress gave up her career performing in small venues in New York to tour with Ramiro around the world. During the band's tour, he constantly put her style of music down, belittled her in front of everyone, and even got physical.Without hesitation, she left Ramiro right in the middle of his tour. Ramiro knew he was wrong and couldn't fight his demons alone. His manager arranged for a counselor to tour with this Metal god and held sessions between shows. Ramiro needed to make things right so Noelle would walk down the aisle. But the man who made Ramiro's life a living hell resurfaced to annihilate whatever happiness he had. Now, Ramiro must confront the demon who is his father in human form.

This is about a bassist for a heavy metal band that suffers a lot of childhood trauma from his abusive religious father and has to work through his issues so he doesn't continue to destroy his relationships.

I really liked the premise behind this story and was very intrigued by it. Unfortunately, I only made it about 25% in and really struggled with it.
In the beginning, our MC, Ramiro, is 13 years old, experiencing abuse from his father. At this point, his band is starting to come together, and he's really leaning into music. The character, however, in my opinion, doesn't read as a preteen boy. He comes off more like an older teen around 16 or 17. I had a hard time believing him and his classmates were of preteen ages, which really threw things off a bit for me.

I also found that there's a lot of small insignificant events that just don't seem to flow with the story and really don't provide us with anything valuable. While other times, there are large gaps in time that feel like we're missing out on potential plot development. I found the inner monologues to be a little awkward and the multiple POVs a bit confusing.

I really wanted to like this, but I had a really hard time connecting with the characters and the overall plot. There are also some really dark themes to be aware of as well. While this wasn't my cup of tea, I definitely urge others to give it a shot!

Ramiro Espinoza has a promising future in his Heavy Metal band Irate. However, his past haunts him and prevents him from enjoying his achievements. Since he was a young boy, he felt a connection with music and strived to become a great vocalist and bassist. His early life was complicated because he comes from a dysfunctional family where Jorge, his father, inflicted physical and emotional harm on his family, justifying his abuse with bible passages. Fortunately, his mother and sister supported Ramiro's dreams, and he used his music to cope with the emotions caused by the conflicts with his father. Eventually, he met Noelle, a House/Techno singer who gave up her career to travel on Irate's tour around the world. Now Ramiro must learn to open his heart and face the problems with his father to achieve true success in life and develop a healthy relationship with Noelle.

Author Alexis Soleil has a detailed narration style. She introduces readers to Ramiro through the significant moments of his life. Readers first meet him in his youth, when he is a teenager and in a rebellious period. There are good moments, for example, when he gets a tattoo of a 3D tarantula, and bad situations as when his father kicks him out of the house on Christmas. Eventually, we see Ramiro maturing with his career, developing a relationship with Noelle, and coming to terms with his family's issues.

Alexis Soleil doesn't just focus on Roamiro; Noelle is an essential part of this story and has strong character development and her own personal conflicts to resolve. This diversity in the character's personalities and ethnic backgrounds enriches the narrative because it shows that everyone has conflicts to resolve.

IRATE: A Rocker's Raging Romance has a dark plot with intense scenes and mature language. This novel is focused on the world of Heavy Metal and shows a realistic perspective with touring, problems in the band, and even with Noelle seeing the reactions from fans. I recommend this contemporary romance for those that enjoy the lifestyle of Heavy Metal music, complicated romantic relationships, and self-discovery.

Ramiro is talented and his best friend Zack too. Zack’s dad supported his sons dream of being a musician. Ramiro’s dad was a religious, obnoxious, abusive jerk. He was very abusive to his wife and daughter too. I’m fourteen percent into this book and I have no clear direction of where this book is going. There are conversations, birthday parties, dinners and practices that are not moving the story forward. Ramiro seems to have puppy love for Noelle but he has a girlfriend named Kim. This story reads like an entry in a teens journal and it’s boring. I don’t feel any connection to Ramiro, his mom, sister, Zack or his dad. Even when he’s ranting about his dad it’s like a disgruntled teen with hormonal issues. Also this story is all over the place, you get pov from Ramiro, Kim, Noelle and just about anyone on the page. It’s confusing and just adds to the overall mess. Ramiro refers to love making as rhythmic movement and his girlfriend’s thunder thighs, maybe the author doesn’t realize that term isn’t complimentary. In a crazy way this story reminds me of that book, Like Water for Chocolate because even though it’s one misery after another it keeps on going. I’m giving this book three stars.

“Irate” deserves 5 stars! (If possible, more)
This book covers: religious topics, family issues, toxic relationships and the (dark) world of Rock.

The author describes excellently hard but realistic situations, which makes the book hard to put down!

Themes such as pursuing your dreams, wanting to personally heal wounds from the past (and present) resonated deeply.
The characters and the story are well-developed. In return, makes you connect with them and feel their emotions, in a relatable way.

I love the Latino representation and the female power (Noelle) that the author portrayed. I personally connected a lot with her because as a woman who was in a similar situation it brings to light the attention of relationships and the reality of them.

The story is a hard-hitting and emotionally charged, 100% worth reading.

Passion. Hurt. Love. This was a dark story that had so much potential, but there were a few things that gave me an ick. I read dark romance frequently so I had high hopes for this read. The characters were not that relatable to me. At times I was confused with the amount of thought quotes used instead of voice and the lack of using “said”.

Ramiro and Noelle are the love interests of the book. The characters come from different backgrounds and have different tastes in music which causes conflict between the two. While Noelle likes sweet and poetic music, Ramiro is into heavy metal. Although the romance aspect between Ramiro and Noelle is present, he story focuses a lot on Ramiro’s dislike for his abusive father.

This story is about Ramiro, who loves playing his bass guitar and playing heavy metal music. He was raised by an abusive Father, who hates his music and abuses him and his wife. Ramiro ends up playing in a band named Irate and tours the World with his best friend and girlfriend Noelle. Noelle is the opposite of Ramiro, soft, feminine and she likes House music while Ramiro is dark, brooding trash metal artist. We see the relationship grow between Noelle and Ramiro during the tour and see the conflicts they face, especially with Ramiro and his dark side. Eventually Ramiro must also confront his Father and the abuse that he experienced all his childhood.

The book is title a Rocker Romance, but it’s pretty violent at times and there are lots of swearing in the book. You do learn a lot about the trash metal scene and how to polar opposites can come together.

This book was a whirlwind of passion, drama, and raw emotion. The rocker vibe made it intense and edgy, with a storyline that kept me hooked from the first chapter. The characters were flawed but so real, and their fiery chemistry practically jumped off the page. If you’re into love stories with a rebellious twist and lots of heart-pounding moments, this one won’t disappoint. Definitely a must-read for romance fans who like things a little wild!

I received a copy of this book on Story Origin for an honest review. My opinions are my own & I'm not compensated for them. I can't give too much away (and I also can't rip into it as much as I'd usually do)... I'll just say that the book was not for me. I liked the cover! THAT I love!

I don't think I connect with Alexis's writing. This was definitely a me problem. I've never read a rockers raging romance before. The author made Ramiro angry without any real reason besides his dad being religious. How he acted didn't make sense.
