Kal may be Charlie’s true mate, but she is the High Commander first.
Another but fonder memory from Kal’s old life returns to her. However, her duties as the High Commander takes priority especially with the Sworne in the galaxy. Kal takes steps toward finding alliances that could help save Kander.
Lexa Luthor is an avid writer and reader of the Omegaverse trope especially including F/F pairing. In her books, each main character(s) is a strong-willed female, who navigates difficult situations but always ends up finding love with their mate. Every tale has a twist and is gripping, sexy, and even a bit adventurous.
When not writing, Lexa enjoys binge watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Gentleman Jack, or The L Word. Her other favorite hobbies are playing cornhole, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, and laying around the pool in the summer. At times, Lexa finds time to read romances (both dark and fluffy) and great sci-fi books but nothing else can beat a steamy, downright erotic F/F romance with biting, knotting, and slightly possessive love.

Love these shorts. It’s an added bonus that Lexa gives us. They allow us to see things through Kal’s mindset. We see the changes in her from the first to the newest. I especially loved this one because we get to experience the memory of her and Fairlee together before Sumner left with Dorlon to begin her training. Their relationship is so sweet. I love seeing Kal and Charlie together through Kal’s eyes as well. I can’t wait for the next one.

Enjoyed this for the background on Kal and a bit of Lore drop but was hoping for a bit more towards the end. But I guess it makes sense that it has to stop where 5 stopped. Anyway on we go!
CHARACTER & STORY IMPRESSIONS: I loved seeing Kal interact with the people of Kander. It shows her being a competent leader who actually cares for her people. Instead of being told she cares, she actually goes out to meet and help those in need. I also liked seeing her artistic side, so hopefully she does get to draw Charlie at some point like she wanted. Getting some insight into Kal’s childhood as Sumner really shows how close she and her twin sister were. I hope she gets to see Fairlee again one day.
I adored seeing Charlie from Kal’s point of view. For some reason, Charlie comes off as smugger and more confident when the story is from Kal’s perspective, and that’s not a bad thing. I think it just shows how well Charlie carries herself around Kal, even though Charlie has so many doubts and fears herself.
HIGHLIGHTS: * Highlight 1: The fact Charlie and Kal both know Andren will interrupt them even if they’re having sex, because she needs to train Charlie to fight. That’s how committed Andren is to her job. * Highlight 2: It’s hinted that Kal will teach Charlie how to use the Spirit of Kalatas to heal and I bet your ass, it’s going to come into play in the later books. * Highlight 3: That conversation Kal had with the Spirit of Kalatas in the end made me root for Kalatas. I love how confident the god is in Kal’s abilities even if she doesn’t have his full powers.
PERSONAL TAGS: * 3rd person, Kal’s POV * Short story * F/f omegaverse * Fated mates * G!p * Human female / she-alpha * Mercenary / high commander * Sci-fi (with a bit of fantasy) * Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️(got me wet)

I loved that Andren is so committed to teaching Charlie how to fight and defend herself, that both Charlie and Kal know Andren will interrupt them even if they’re having sex so Charlie can train. That woman really is committed to her duties.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: There was nothing I disliked about this short story.
