Half-dead witch Geneviève Crowe makes her living beheading the dead--and trying to make sense of accidentally ending up a faery princess when she ended up bonded to Eli Stonecroft, a faery prince in self-imposed exile in New Orleans.
But bonded for eternity isn't enough for family and friends--of her future citizens. It's time to plan a wedding ceremony.
Unfortunately there isn't enough champagne available to deal with an undead-great-grandmother, a faery king who's trying to romance Gen's assistant, and a city where Halloween is a holiday worth dying to enjoy.

Nothing is ever easy for Geneviève and this short shows that. With as many good things that can happen to her, bad things seem to happen too. I'm just glad that with this one she was able to cement her ties to Eli around all the bad.
This was a fun fast read. One of the "in-between" novellas that form part of this series, this book offers readers and it was lovely!
This is just a short story that doesn't need to be read in order as it doesn't impact the plot lines of the full novels in the series. But it has all the things any reader who loves this series will enjoy as a quick read with a sweet payoff in the above-noted. It was fun and I loved it!
Iggy is back and wreaking havoc on Genevieve’s life as she prepares for her weddings to Eli. Genevieve is dragging her feet about her impending nuptials not because she doesn’t want to marry Eli but because she dreads the spectacle. Luckily for her planning is right up her assistant/former attempted killer Allie’s alley. This novella is a great addition to the Faery Bargains series. I highly recommend it for series fans. If you’re new to the series read the previous books first.
It is wedding time and Geneieve is doing just about anything to avoid the planning. Luckily, she has Alice! Things do not go quite as smoothly as everyone hopes. There are a few hiccups along the way. It also looks like the King will have his work cut out for him once Alice finds out about his bargain. Really enjoying this series!
Weirdness of Iggy and the witch haters aside, I really enjoyed this story. I think Ally was in her element organizing the royal wedding with everyone’s focus on it while simultaneously organizing the private weddings in Elphame and on Beatrice’s property.
A fun novella continuing the romance and danger of Genevieve's and Eli's strange courtship, taking it to the marriages. Love these tales. Wonderful characters.
I’ve been wondering how Gen and Eli were going to get married for a little while now. I mean, they are ‘married’ in the paranormal sense at this point in the series. But, how was all the pomp and circumstance going to happen? Plus, because this is a wonderful series, there was going to have to be some kind of drama and action that accompanied the nuptials. Marr didn’t disappoint on either front for this novella.
I love that one of the big character challenges throughout this story was Gen trying to come to terms with and deal with her new celebrity. I can’t imagining having that many people intruding on my life. And I don’t have secrets and paranormal abilities to hide! She does such a fantastic job of patience throughout this though, which just made me love her all that much more.
Gen’s dealings with the tourists are kind of… familiar to me. Alright, I don’t have anywhere near the same issues and such. But, I do live in a tourist region, and some days I have unbelievable frustration at their intrusion and idiocy. It was nice to see that this seems to be a bit of a universal thing in tourist regions – appreciation for their visiting and such. But also sheer scream into a pillow level of frustration at how logic seems to go out the window when people are on vacation.
Champagne and Commitments is setting up the next book in this series wonderfully. Particularly as Allie finally finds out about her unwitting, unknowing courtship. And, since Allie is kind of a spitfire, albeit a ditsy one, I can’t wait to see what hell she brings down on the presumptuous fool’s head.
I allowed myself a little tome between reading this and writing my review. One thing that keeps echoing in my mind is that the events of this book definitely do not make it a side story, which novellas are frequently viewed as when linked to a story.
This novella is definitely a must-read for its series.
Spoilers below.
Genevieve’s new high-profile status comes with her—very reasonably—being targeted more and more by people who wish to harm her, with the added challenge that she is still hiding her drauger side to the world. With the spotlight on her, she cannot openly use some of her talents.
Iggy being the main antagonist of this book was a surprise to me, as were his still largely masked motives: he’s captured and imprisoned Genevieve, claiming love and protection. Surprise one? While we see little of it so far, he has a vow with Baron Samedi.
By the end, Genevieve’s loved ones do come and save her from his hold on her, and Genevieve gets to have her two happy weddings, while still giving a spectacular decoy wedding to another couple to keep the press off herself.
The second surprise is that Iggy is transformed into a pig by Beatrice. While it may be the end of Iggy’s involvement—and he is still shrouded in mystery—I still wonder if he will remain a key part of the next book.

The days of the weddings are finally upon us. Eli and Gene have bonded but need to make it official. Gene is not nervous about being married but does not want to have the big days be so crazy. She is kidnapped by Ziggy and something weird happens. I really enjoyed this series. I can't wait to continue the next full novel. I love the main characters and side characters. The more I meet these characters the more I enjoy them.
