The Carpenter

Rate this book
“What am I meant to do? How can I be successful? Sam had solid answers to these questions at a young age, as he learned the craft of carpentry from his father. But Sam’s world turned upside down when his mother took a teaching job at an elite private school in Greenwich, Connecticut and brought Sam along as a student. The craftsmanship he’d worked to develop at an early age was a subject that drew mockery from affluent classmates. Sam’s embarrassment grew as he spent summers and vacation time working alongside his dad at mansions where fellow students lived. By the time he graduated from high school, Sam resolved to get a college degree and a lucrative white-collar job, so he could join the uber-affluent community along Connecticut’s Gold Coast. But fate had other plans. The Carpenter is an inspiring story of a young man’s journey through the mine fields of ambition, expectation, addiction, and love.

Teenager Sam, feels like a fish out of water when he's exposed to the glittery life of Connecticut's Gold Coast at a Greenwich private school where his mother takes a job as a teacher, and he becomes a student. He'd learned the craft of carpentry from his father and until now that is where he believed his future would take him. This story told through the lens of a young carpenter is an interesting and unusual take on teenage angst and self discovery. Bravo!

This is a good book for having been self published by the author. Set in Connecticut many off the locations and issues were very familiar. Kind of a no nonsense way of writing that makes it an easy read….and if you have any connection to AA or the habit that makes AA make sense this book is for you.
