The hottest fires meld the most indestructible bonds.
When a 21st century woman struggling with anger management clashes with a 13th century Highlander who considers himself invincible, passionate infernos ignite.
“Take thirty days off or you’re fired.” To 21st century Dr. Evie Wortham, confirmed Londoner and obsessively driven surgeon; her hospital’s ultimatum of thirty days leave in the calming wilderness of the Scottish Highlands so she can get a handle on her anger issues means one thing: unbearable boredom. But she agrees out of pity for her best friend who Human Resources nominated to pass out the punishment. That and the fact that she did massively overstep her bounds this time—even by her standards. So, she heads to her friend’s cottage on the outskirts of Inverness for a month of hiking, biking, and becoming one with nature. But a climb behind a waterfall to rescue a kitten with an odd fondness for water permanently strikes the word boredom from her vocabulary. Instead of finding the cat when she emerges on the other side, she discovers a man with a bloody gash in his head floating face down in the pool below.
When Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart opens his eyes to the lovely, but strangely dressed Englishwoman, he’s certain the enemy has captured him. He’d put nothing past Edward I’s arrogance and determination to break Scotland, especially after the sacking of Berwick. But when the sharp-tongued lass turns out to be an extraordinary healer and confesses England has banished her, honor demands he not only offer her the protection of his clan, but the added safety of taking his name. After all, she did save his life. And not only is she fearless, canny, and filled with fire, but bonny as a prize filly. What better choice for a wife? The arrangement could serve them both.
Finding herself trapped in 13th century Scotland, Evie has no choice but to accept Quinn’s offer of protection. While she had always thought to marry for love, marrying to stay alive seems a good enough reason, too. What she didn’t count on was falling in love. Or how hard it would be to hide the truth of her past from Quinn. And then there’s the assassin intent on killing her new husband. Who knew there could be so many obstacles to wedded bliss?
Looking for a romantic page turner that will make you laugh, cry, and stay up entirely too late to find out what happens? Then this Scottish historical time travel romance by award-winning author Maeve Greyson is the one for you. Alpha male Highlanders, fiercely independent females, and loves that ignore the boundaries of time. Escape to the Highlands. Leave reality behind!
Maeve Greyson is a USA TODAY bestselling author, Amazon Top 100 bestseller, Amazon All Star, multiple RONE Award winner, and a multiple HOLT Medallion Finalist.
Her mantra is this: No one has the power to shatter your dreams unless you give it to them.
She and her husband of over forty-five years traveled around the world while in the U.S. Air Force. Now they're settled in rural Kentucky where Maeve writes about her courageous heroes and the fearless women who tame them. Sometimes her stories are historical romances, time travel romances, or escapist romantasies, but the one thing they always have in common is a satisfying happily ever after. When she’s not plotting the perfect snare, she can be found herding cats, grandchildren, and her husband—not necessarily in that order.
After being sent on forced vacation by her hospital, Evie finds herself tumbled back in time to thirteenth century Scotland.
The premise of this story is great. I liked the characters and the fact that not only was Evie a doctor, but that she was able to use her knowledge and skills in the past to help people. I also liked the chemistry between Quinn and Evie, as they work together well as a couple.
However, I thought the pacing of the story was odd, as it takes place over just a few days yet the characters fell in love. I also was unconvinced that Quinn's best plan of action to protect Evie would be to marry her - it struck me as something to just move the plot along. Finally, the character of Evie felt underutilized, especially considering her fits of rage and the adventures of her past.
Overall, a decent read, but I couldn't suspend my disbelief adequately.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Maeve Greyson has written another fun time traveling, highlander, medieval romance. I enjoyed the characters in this book MUCH more than the first book of this series.
Quinn was hilarious with his inner rambling as he tried to figure Evie out... is she a witch, a fae, a seductress, an English spy, or an easy wench? What is she wearing? What are her "bars of power" and why does she want me to "swallow little rocks" and the best question that Quinn has is "how do I make her mine forever?"
Evie..what to say about Evie. She is your typical 21st century, female physician, who has fought for everything good in her life, is very good at being a physician, and oh, yeah ...she just found herself back in medieval times. Nothing to worry about, right?
The chemistry between Quinn & Evie is palpable from the start. I knew they would be explosive when they came together. 🔥🔥❤❤
Of course there is a little bit of drama and mystery...a villain who needs rooted out and dealt with for good.
Alls well at the end - our characters get their HEA!!
What didn't I like about the story?
Well, its a time travel so I get that it's based on complete fantasy. I just had a little bit of a hard time with Evie and her ability to perform major surgery on a person without any anesthesia but whiskey, without any antibiotics, without any pain medication. It made the medical part of me sit up and cry foul.
Overall I did enjoy the story. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
4 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐| 4 Flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥
P.S. What I REALLY wish Maeve Greyson would write would be a time travel story with the MAN coming from medieval Scotland and landing in Scotland of the 21st Century. I would love to see how he deals with all the changes....just a small hint to this great author!!
Very enjoyable time travel hist/rom. If you like tough men, tougher women, Scottish highland traditional storylines, you’ve just picked the perfect book, and it’s so brilliantly written too.
Another wonderful addition to this series, excellent characters with a stunning chemistry. Two people you would never have put together, are thrown together by time and it works wonderfully.
I adore this book, and the author style is so easy to read. It’s a must.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
I’m discovering a fondness for this genre but it depends on the author. In this story the author touches on almost all the things I usually find missing in time travel stories. She is concerned with lack of hygiene supplies and her favorite beverage tea. Some of her takes made me smile.
There is a bad villain that shocked me who he was. The quirks that caused her problems in her own time were a big benefit in the past. I was surprised the people who watched her with the H’s sister didn’t call her a witch.
Only one misunderstanding that is resolved quickly. I found this story to be romantic and filled with passion. There is lovemaking, within marriage -heat level 4 out of 5.
This is book 2 of the series but a stand alone. No cliffhanger, no cheating, HEA, romance and some steam. Loved the epilogue two years in the future. Many have explained the blurb in detail better than I can. Just giving you some insights into the story. (ljb).
Time travel, romance, the Highlands, and a mysterious enemy made this book hard to put down!
One of the things I liked the most about this book was the strength of Evie's character from a sense of giving strong opinions and not being afraid to say what was on her mind. So you take an outspoken smart doctor by current times and put them in the 13th Century, oh my did that keep it interesting. I loved that Quinn liked Evie's outspoken nature which was definitely not normal of the time period.
There were a few things that were a little bit typical of time travel type stories. The sharing of items like a cell phone and a lighter weren't overly unique to explain things, but at least the trying to compare things to what one would understand in the time period gave me a chuckle throughout the book.
I have read the first two books in the series now and am excited for the third!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
love the concept but the execution was honestly terrible. they know each other for three days before getting married. they get together. then she leaves and when he finally catches up they say i love you? the writing was cheesy at best.
Dr. Evie Worthington is one of the finest physicians at Finchcrest Hospital. She is a brilliant surgeon that her patients adore and worship which includes an exceptional bedside manor with them too. Unfortunately this is not the case with some of her peers, the doctors and nurses she has to work with on a daily basis. Words like difficult, name calling, shouting and other anger management issues. It was coming to such a degree Evie gets migraines and blacks out during these bursts of temper Her best friend and fellow physician Dr, Maggie Stroud was forced by Human Resources to give Evie the ultimatum either take a forced vacation and be fired. The hospital does need peace and harmony in the operating rooms, but they know what a wonderful Doctor Evie is. As she had been warned previously about her temper and Maggie always supported Evie. Now this workaholic hasn’t taken any type of time of vacation in years, Evie has no choice if she wants to remain employed. She reluctantly accepts Maggie’s offer of her cottage outside of Inverness, Scotland for an entire month. A forced vacation of biking, hiking and exploring in Scotland! The last thing she want to do was to be wasting her time traveling in Scotland but she had no choice. This included documenting her entire trip by taking photos each day of her entire trip as proof she was really on vacation. It was totally humiliating but she did this for her patients.
While Evie is on her forced vacation goes on a hike she trying to get away from the tourists looking for solitude and a secluded area. Now she always travels with her backpack with all the necessities one might need in an emergency. She finds a kitten in trouble and somehow climbs behind a waterfall and falls yet unsuccessfully rescues the kitten who just took off. Unknown to Evie she lands in the 13th century yet at first she is in complete denial! Plus she finds a man face down in the fairypool . It was obvious he had been attacked. She saved Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart’s life though he at first thinks he’s been taken as a prisoner by the English. At first Evie thinks Quinn must be an actor for a historical re-enactment show by the way he is dressed. Just as Quinn thinks his beautiful English woman must be a witch, wood sprite or fae. Due to the way she is dressed, the instruments she uses to examine him especially the pen light and her lighter and the material of her backpack with zippers! He soon views Evie as heroic and woman who was banished by her English people and being alone in the world he convinces Evie to marry him so he can protect her and keep her safe from predators!
Evie realizes to survive in the world of the past she must marry Quinn. She is physically attracted o him !as his is the most gorgeous man she has ever met plus she really likes him too. Of course this century for a career driven independent women won’t be easy, plus Quinn too likes to be the one in charge especially being a chieftain and warrior. Plus he knows not everyone likes him not just his English enemies. Was it someone from his own clan who attacked him? He is widow who had a horrible arranged first marriage by a woman who didn’t even like him. She died in childbirth and at first Evies feels he is very cold when he speaks of his deceased wife and child, yet soon she discovers and understands why.
Now he and Evie are both falling in love but he does not know the real truth of Evie’s time traveling past. Evies never expected to fall head over heels in love with a man who was born over seven hundred years before her! What will he do if her ever learns the truth? Furthermore there is someone who also wants Quinn dead! Will this put both their lives at risk? Does Evie and Quinn even have a future? Can Evie handle living in the past with no regrets? Can love pave the way for both of them? Read and find out! 8
Highland Heroes by Maeve Greyson Book 1 - Loving Her Highland Thief Book 2 - Taming Her Highland Legend
As always Maeve Greyson pens another novel which is absolutely pure brilliance. She is always a favorite author of mine that sweeps you away in a paranormal world of time travel, romance, suspense, mystery and adventure. The character are awe- inspiring and remarkable with a bit of wit in the story too that made me giggle too. I have been reading this author for years and she never disappoints readers. As her novels are always fast paced, page turners that this reader absolutely loved.
I definitely recommend this book and you can read it in series order or as a stand alone book. I definitely can’t wait for the next book in this exhilarating series!
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy and an advance reader copy from Dragonblade publishers. I voluntarily agreed to do a fair review and blog through netgalley. All thoughts, ideas and words are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Evie Wortham is the definition of a woman of the 21st century. She's a surgeon, she's brilliant, she gets what she wants and she surely doesn't compromise the safety of her patients for the protocol of some stuffy suits. She also doesn't apologize for it. As a result, her hospital sends her on a mandatory vacation and her friend offers her her cottage in Inverness to relax in. Evie doesn't plan on it. Still, she ends up on a flight to Scotland soon after. She starts her vacation with a hike, where following a mewling kitten lands her in the thirteenth century, next to a pool in which an unciouscious man with a huge gash in his head is floating face down in the water. Unaware of what has befallen her, Evie saves the man in strange clothes from drowning and stitches his head wound. When he wakes, Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart realizes what the woman in strange clothes has done for him. He sees an Englishwoman, alone in the Highlands, with the kindess to save his life. And so he decides to offer the only thing he can in order to ensure her safety: his hand in marriage.
To start, I'd like to admit what I expected from this book: a steamy romance with a fine plot and fun storytelling. What I got? I got an romance with amazing side plots, good characters and exquisite storytelling. I was NOT expecting to read this in less than 24 hours, and I definitely wasn't expecting to become so attached to the characters. While the circumstances of Evie's time travel aren't explained and she has suprisingly little interest in how it actually works for the fact that she is a woman in science, the rest of it sounds surprisingly accurate from an emotional viewpoint. She has a very natural reaction to being in a situation you don't want to be in and you can't get out of, especially since she already knows and likes Quinn before she realizes. I really liked this bit. I also liked how uncompromising of her personal rights she is and that this is what Quinn comes to love most about her. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship in general, with all the banter and occasional drama. I did think there would be a lot more steam than there was, but I didn't reallly miss it, the much better than expected plot more than made up for it. I did guess the big plottwist at the end really early on, but I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing, the foreshadowing was just really good and at some points perhaps a bit toooo good. This book is for you if you want a quick, fun romance with a good plot to distract you from everyday life.
Taming her Highland Legend Time to Love a Highlander #2 Maeve Greyson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Dr. Evie Wortham has just been ordered to take 30 days off or she's fired. She is surgeon in the 21st century and she knows, she is one of the best. Her best friend is not only the one who has to tell her this bad news she also gives her the keys to her cottage in Scotland. telling her to hike, rest, and to go and relax. Evie has to get a handle on herself and her anger issues before she gets in more trouble. She does go to Scotland and decides to dive right into hiking and taking special pictures to prove she's really there in Scotland doing what she's got to do. On her hike near a waterfall she hears a kitten mewling in distress. Evie follows the sound of the kitten to the other side of the falls and still can't find the kitten however she does discover a man floating face down in the pool below.
Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart opens his eyes and all he sees is the lovely, but oddly dressed English Woman. By this time he is certain that he has been captured by the English. He'd put nothing past that English King when it comes to his arrogance and determination to break Scotland. But when the outspoken woman turns out to be a healer, and confesses to him that England has banished her, Quinn's honor will have him do the right thing. He not only offers her the protection of his clan, he also offerers her the protection of taking his name. After all she did save his life, didn't she? This woman is spirited, full of spunk, and as beautiful as one can get. He couldn't ask for a better choice of wife. The arrangement can help benefit the both of them.
Evie has found herself trapped in 13th century Scotland with no way to tale care of herself, so marrying to keep herself alive is as good a reason as any to marry Quinn. But then there is an assassin intent on killing Quinn which is the reason he fell in the fairy pool to begin with. They need to work together to figure it out before Quinn ends up dead and Evie a widow.
Maeve Greyson is absolutely fabulous. This author weaves a time travel tale that came to life right before my very eyes. Quinn was such a fierce bear until he met Evie then he became a loveable bear. Evie was amazing and so brave. The chemistry they had was off the chart and I couldn't put this book down. It was that good. Ms. Greyson writes kick butt, smart women who know how to handle themselves and this is another strong woman. I can't wait for the next book
Dr. Evie Wortham is on her last warning & her hospital’s ultimatum of thirty days leave in the calming wilderness of the Scottish Highlands is her only chance of avoiding dismissal. But when the sharp-tongued lass turns out to be an extraordinary healer and confesses England has banished her, honour demands he offers her the protection of his clan. Finding herself trapped in 13th century Scotland, Evie has no choice but to accept Quinn’s offer of protection. This second book in the series is very easily read on its own. I found it to be a well written engrossing read. Twenty first century opinionated surgeon meets thirteenth century clan chief, they are bound to lock horns & they do, the banter is witty the attraction sizzles & the differences between times are thought provoking. I loved Evie the no nonsense focused surgeon who struggles when she realises what has happened, which makes her human. I also loved Quinn who also struggles to believe Evie is from a different time. There are also attempts on Quinn’s life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book but again would have liked to have known what happened in present day Scotland when Evie’s abandoned hire car was found My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
A MATTER OF TIME Evie's need for control makes her a good surgeon in a 21st century London hospital, but not very good working with other doctors. Relieved from work for a month, she heads to a co-worker's cottage in Scotland. A hike turns into more than she was prepared for. Going through a waterfall to save a cat lands her in the 13th century. The man she saves from drowning with a gash on his head is Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart. Someone is trying to kill him. After Evie saves him, Quinn has to save Evie. He proposes marriage. After a short period of adjustment, these two are passionate for each other. Telling Quinn the truth of her time-travel may be what breaks them apart. When an assassin continues to try to kill Quinn, Evie makes it her mission to find out who it is. This book went by pretty fast, especially when you have two people honest with other and only a few bumps in the road. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I do so enjoy historical time travel romances and Maeve Greyson sure knows how to write them! I really loved Evie and Quinn's story, two very strong people who share a very passionate outlook on life, even if they are from different centuries!!
When Evie finds herself in the 13th century, it's a good thing she's a doctor since the first thing she has to do is save a handsome Highlander's life! This is a very fast paced story with plenty of action and danger in which Evie tries to adapt living in the 13th century without being accused of being a witch. With Quinn's protection and heated passion between them, Evie may have finally found her soulmate.
I love Maeve Greyson's writing style and will never tire reading her books!
A 21st century doctor travels back to 1300's Scotland just in time to treat and save a highland chieftain.
Sound like a fairytale? Every 21st woman's dream? Well yes, yes it does (I am raising my hand!). Just give me instructions and a few extra pairs of contacts!
Highland Chieftain Quinn cannot believe the lovely lass, and at first that she is with the enemy. Fortunately he soons believes she is a healer. Plus she needs his protection and the only choice is to marry.
A fast paced story with a villian, a strong highland and equally strong heroine, that keeps your attention until the end!!
God it started-out so well until it became yet another one of those serially published cheesy romances. I didn't meet any Evie with anger issues. She was in fact quite justified to be infuriated in most of the situations. Quinn was just okay. They meet, marry, she run, he find and a HEA. I guess if you want a no-brainer, light read then this is it. But there was a lot that could've been explored or done with in this book :/
Taming Her Highland Legend by Maeve Greyson is the best of both worlds: a Highlander story and a time travel story, all in one book. Evie is a surgeon in a major hospital in London who has unloaded on someone once too often. She is talented, but maladjusted and crabby. It is her friend, Maggie, who delivers the bad news: take a month off and regroup or you are fired. Maggie has the solution: her small home in the Highlands would be perfect for a month of reflection. Evie is not happy but resolves to make the best of it. On the drive, she decides to stop off and see some falls and have a good hike to release some tension. She sends Maggie a couple of photos to prove she is making an effort. On her second attempt to rescue a cat in distress, she balances on a ledge to shimmy behind a waterfall. When she shimmies back out, things seem different. The, she sports a man floating in the pond. She manages to drag him out, but things seem to go downhill from there. Oh, and things are different, very different.
What would you do if you woke up and were 700 years in the past? Impossible to even imagine. Evie found herself in a situation where her past personality could no longer exist. None of it worked. The man she had rescued was Quinn McTaggart, Chieftain Quinn McTaggart. Someone had tried to kill him. He was a big man, a brutal man, but also a kind one. Especially toward Evie. She was floundering so she didn't have time to fall in love, but he wasn't and he did . . . fall in love. He had immense understanding for Evie, certainly a trait not common in 1296. He respected her talents and her skills. This was a beautifully written story. Greyson wrote great characters and fit them into a plot that made sense, unforced. The opportunities for deception were many but Evie quickly learned that that did not work. Nor did her temper. She was an excellent character. One who had to adjust. I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Taming Her Highland Legend by Dragonblade, through Netgalley.
All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #dragonblade #maevegreyson #tamingherhighlandlegend
This book started out really engaging me, held my interest, and was headed in the right direction until Evie goes to Quinn's keep, then it kinda got a bit jumbled by moving so fast, but ended up good. To start, I loved that Evie was such a strong personality and a doctor, her persona fit that perfectly. So why did it change so much? I gather that she had to fit in but she seemed to agree and fall for him way too quickly. I didn't like that it took her so long to actually confess where she was from. And I couldn't get past the thought that she would want to return to the 21st century and her job, so other than a passing fling, I didnt totally believe that she would be happy staying in the 13th century. Quinn started off all warrior and surly Highlander, suspicious of her and her ways but then he seemed to accept her and her ways super fast, within a day of meeting her, he proposes. Sure it's with the premise of keeping her safe but he seemed to change into a doting sweetheart within a few paragraphs.
I will say as far as time travel romances go, this one was very well done. The little quirks of power bars, tea, and a lighter, him not understanding half of what she says was all very believable and something I think more time travel novels need to pay attention to. I did like the chemistry between Quinn and Evie, it too was well done, and aside from little questions here and there, believable. I think it just needed more of a timeline adjustment and perhaps a bit longer of a story to sort things out.
This was a fast read that kept me interested and wanting to read more. I do recommend it. Sweet romance, kissing scenes, a little quick steam I received an advanced copy in exchange for my review
I was lukewarm about the first book in this series, but this book makes up for it. The heroine is someone we'd all like to be and she's fun to read about.
Evie is a 21st century woman of principle, and a confident, self-reliant and capable physician. She's aggressively self-assured and it sometimes rubs people the wrong way. But that is what has brought her to the top of her field and what will help her survive and thrive in the thirteenth century.
A serendipitous encounter with Highland Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart sets them on converging paths. Quinn is oftentimes gruff and grating as well, and he deems Evie and himself a good match. He admires Evie's bold and fearless personality. It's true that they are so much alike they sometimes clash but the more they learn about each other and respect each others' talents the better they work together. They will be a strong leadership team for their clan going forward. But first, those who wish to do Quinn harm must be eliminated.
This is a pretty fast moving story. In four days Evie goes from 2019 to 1296, to saving a few lives, to nearly drowning, to married, to solving a mystery. No wonder she's a bit testy. She's a really exciting heroine to read about. I enjoyed watching her medical prowess and fearless approach to life, yet she's human and has a breaking point, but after recharging she can bounce back.
This is a fun little story. The details are accurate enough to help you imagine what that situation might be like. It's worthy of your time if you want a few hours of escapism.
Dr. Evie Wortham is obstinate, driven, and shows little respect for those in authority. Unfortunately, she is not invincible and when her employers demand that she takes time off, she is resentful and frustrated by the enforced vacation. Falling into 13th century Scotland with no way of being able to return, Evie discovers that her skills are just as necessary in the past as in the present day. With a brawny Chieftain who does not like taking orders, Evie finds her hands full with Quinn MacTaggart, little realizing that she needs him as much as he needs her. It is not surprising that Quinn is so suspicious of Evie, especially considering the times, but as the truth about Evie emerges, he has difficulty in accepting the truth. I love the main characters in this novel and despite Quinn's harshness at times, he is just what Evie needs in a husband, and the fact that he can bend enough to take her advice, says a lot about him. The story is well-written and entertaining and comes to a successful conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*
I discovered Maeve Greyson in an anthology put out by Dragonblade Publishing and really liked what I read in those so I was excited to read one of her full length novels - and this did not disappoint! I actually found that I wanted this to be longer. Partly because I wanted to learn more about these characters and partly because I did not want to say goodbye to them. I only wish we had gotten a chapter (even a very short one) about what was going on in present day when Evie's friend realizes she has disappeared.
I really liked Evie and Quinn - individually and as a couple. They really did complement one another and he made her feel safe so she could let go of some of her anger. And Evie showed Quinn that he was capable of being loved for himself. The mystery surrounding who is trying to kill him took a turn I did not necessarily see coming.
Overall, a really great novel, especially if you have a soft spot for Highlanders and time travel!
Evie Worthams life is the hospital where she is a surgeon. Forced to take a vacation to clear up her life or face termination Evie opts to take time off in Scotland. When Evie follows a kitten behind a waterfall to save him when she falls back into time. When Evie hears something fall into the water she rushes around the water to find a man laying face down in the water. Dragging him out Evie does what she does best, she saves his life!
When chieftain Quinn MacTaggert comes to he is confused but the beautiful woman with the strange manner has captured his attention as well as his protection. With no where to go and no one to help her Evie accepts Quinn’s offer of marriage and protection, but trust will have to be given to help save Quinn from the unknown person trying to kill him and Evie will have to be careful or be labeled a witch.
This was such an wonderful to read. I love time travel romance and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Quinn and Evie’s story. Evie is strong willed and stubborn and I loved her! You definitely want to read this story.
Maeve Greyson takes us back to 13th century Scotland once again. She is one of the queens of this genre. This is book 2 in her Time to Love a Highlander series. Although the premise is the same in both books, modern woman time travels to medieval Scotland and meets a hunky Highlander. However, unlike most series the books are two completely different stories with no intermingling of characters. Although I enjoyed reading the first book, I believe this book is the better of the two. Evie's reaction to finding herself in another time is more like how I think I would react, in shock, and scared. She rescues Quinn and he rescues her, physically as well as emotionally. As always. the author's characters are likeable, and for the most part decent people. I thoroughly enjoyed Dugan as comic relief. What a great character! This is a very nice story, certainly worth the time to read. I received this eBook from NetGalley for an honest review.
Dr. Evie Wortham is a workaholic surgeon. After instuling one too many superior doctors she has been ordered to take a holiday or the sack. A friend "heavily" suggested the Highlands of Scotland as a complete break. Little did she realize just how far outside her comfort zone her journey would take her. How will our twenty-first century heroine deal with a thirteenth century hero??
Chieftain Quinn MacTaggart wakes up to find himself with a splitting headache. A strangely dressed English woman seems to have saved his life. Our hero has more than the English to worry about. Someone much nearer to home is trying to kill him.
This is an exciting and humorous timeslip/historical romance. The characters are fabulous and the ending surprising.
It is part of a series but each book is a stand alone read.
I have to admit, I'm not much of a time travel fan, so I haven't read a lot if books in this genre. But the few that I have read, I have enjoyed very much and I can add this one to that list as well. This is my first time reading this author, so I haven't read the first book, but I had no trouble reading this as a standalone. Evie and Quinn were brilliant together and the chemistry was pretty amazing. Evie was such a strong, independent character, I really liked her. The storyline was well-written and flowed smoothly and the plot twists kept really kept me engaged and interested. The characters were well-developed and the banter between them was fun to read. Overall I found this to be an entertaining read and I would love to read the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This story has all the elements of a great Scottish Highlander time travel novel
Evie is sent to Scotland to get herself together from her less than stellar interactions with colleagues at the hospital where she’s a doctor. She finds herself tumbling back in time as she chases a cat behind a waterfall believing it needs her help. Quinn is on the other side of that fall and back in time 700 years. Evie finds him face down in the water and in need of both her surgical skills as well as emotional healing. Evie desperately tries to make her way back and finds she is stuck in an unfamiliar time and place. There are many twists and turns before their story can come to resolution.
Great character development and a fun read! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series out for pre order now. Highly recommend.
I've read and enjoyed a number of books by Maeve Greyson, and Taming Her Highland Legend now joins my ever growing list of five-stars favorites. In fact, one or more of my favorites were written by this author.
The first chapter of this standalone 13th century romance begins in the 21st century, but it seamlessly moves into an ancient world and all the challenges of a modern woman living is that environment.
Well written with mixed moments of drama and humor, this engrossing read has an absorbing plot with charming characters. It even features some danger by a yet to be identified person.
All in all this is a winner and worth a look-see.
Content 411: This book contains mild secular and religious swearing. It also contains a couple of mildly described marital sex scenes.
This engaging book is the perfect blend of historical fiction and time travel. Evie is a medical doctor in 2019 who is sent on a holiday due to her uncontrolled temper flairs while working in surgery. She is told to go on holiday in Scotland due to a job write up suspension. While hiking she time travels to medieval Scottish highlands. Where she meets clan Chieftain Quinn McTaggert, who has been injured. The doctor in Evie kicks in before she even realizes she has time traveled, and she saves his life. Quinn and Evie have a awesome story that will keep you guessing as they try to figure out who is trying to kill him. This book is engaging and will keep you guessing. With wonderfully written characters and historical fiction storyline. I loved this book!
A lighthearted and entertaining time-traveling romance involving a 21st-century doctor and a Scottish Chieftain from the 13th century.
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I enjoyed it more than the first one. It is part of the Time to Love a Highlander series but you do not need to read the first one at all, they are stand-alone stories.
The book covers in this series are gorgeous and it is what made me pick up the book right away. In this installment, the characters’ backgrounds are more developed and the romance unfolds at a slower pace, which I prefer.
Overall, I recommend it to those who enjoy a quick, time-traveling romance.
This is the second book in the series but they are stand alone reads.
I really enjoyed the feistiness of Evie throughout the book, and how I could relate to her with the panic attacks. It made the story more real, because who wouldn't have some freak outs about time traveling. How she was strong throughout the book and used her medical knowledge while really caring for the highlanders was wonderful. Quinn was a great hero, and at time almost a cinnamon roll which made me love him more. He knew when to be strong and when to just let her do her thing. The love while fast still works from his POV. I am looking forward to more of the series.
Gentle humor, different views on marriage, believable characters
Excellent world-building. The plot develops organically from the nature of the characters. I enjoyed the book so much that I'm following the author even though I'm scaling down the number of authors I follow.
Evie and Quinn struggle to communicate; sometimes, due to language changes after 700 years, sometimes due to changes in social expectations and behavior, and sometimes due to their personal need for growth. All these causes, plus the variety and believability of the other characters, make Evie's and Quinn's relationship realistic and enjoyable.
