Rejected by my pack and slated for execution, the only thing that can save me now might be worse than death itself.

All my life I've fought. Against the rules of my insular wolf pack sequestered in the celestial havens. Against bullies, my horrible parents, and even the pack's strongest wolves who want to claim the town's rebel for their own.

I was supposed to keep my head down, but something deep within me refuses to bow.

When my entire pack rejects me, I'm delivered to a deadly god with a penchant for murder. An incredibly handsome archangel with black wings and unimaginable power.

He was supposed to execute me and end my misery. Instead, he's only keeping me alive for one reason...

Vengeance.

Now I just need to stay alive long enough to escape his grasp.

But as we travel through the world, and every creature seems to want to attack or claim me, I'm realizing I might be something truly special.

And the closer I get to my captor, the more I can't resist a dark, sexy side of him that calls to something dark in me.

But once the heat between us starts burning, the fate of the entire world might rest on whether we manage to fight, or fall, together.

The Demon's Pet is 700 pages of high-stakes action, fantasy adventure, and steamy interludes that just might set your reading device on fire! It's the first book of a trilogy and does NOT end on a cliffhanger.

After eight years of bestsellers and over 5 million books sold as Terry Bolryder, I decided I wanted to branch out a bit and write something new and longer.

Domino Savage delivers sexy, dark anti-heroes, snarky heroines, killer fight scenes, rich world-building and swoon-worthy romance in a long, satisfying package. No cliffhangers here, because I want you to come back just because you loved the ride. The Demon's Pet is my debut novel and I hope you enjoy!

Disappointed

So the premise had potential. Wolf shifter, demon that was basically the devil, and some cute side characters. I love shifter romance, but it didn’t deliver for me. I factored in the fact that I am not a fan of New Adult, but wanted to give it a chance because I’ve enjoyed Terry’s previous, awakened-dragon series. The writing wasn’t great. It was disjointed and took forever to progress. And not in way that helped the story, but instead it seemed to drag. It was so hard for me to finish this, but I kept thinking, “surely some character development is coming!” It did, but it was at the end and felt rushed.

The world building was also kind of meh. Some big event happened to turn the world upside down, but there are very few details beyond that. Different levels of “celestials” and demons are mentioned, but no real details. I would have been interested in knowing more, and I think I would have felt more invested in the story with more detail. Yet even with the lack of detail in places it felt overly drawn out.

The FMC-Cleo was constantly doing the exact opposite of anything the MMC-Sam recommended. Part of her defiance was her personality, past trauma, age, and immaturity (again why I’m not a fan of NA). I can understand refusing *orders,* but it was like every damn thing Sam asked her not to do, Cleo ran and did the very opposite, and then seemed totally shocked when the results were bad, and Sam had to rescue her yet again. I like an assertive female lead, but she was a brat.

And the intimate scenes? Not my favorite writing either. There’s one at the very end that includes an act I’ve never read in a book, and probably for good reason. If you make it that far, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m not a prude, and I know the author was aiming for something “dirtier and darker” but come on. (UPDATE I feel terrible for shitting on this kink and have since encountered squirting in other books and enjoyed it thoroughly. My apologies to the squirt community)

It also reminded me a LOT of another series I recently read involving a wolf shifter and demon king. Not word-for-word by any means, but the premise was so similar.

I’m giving it 2 stars because of the author and the fact that I felt compelled to reach end and see now she would wring a HEA out of a self-loathing male and unlikable female. But I wouldn’t recommend it and I’m not reading the sequel.

I have to start this review over.

This book is AMAZING. It gave me characters to read about late into the night, it gave me adventures and places to go off to. I just loved it so much.

Simply put, it provided me with a weekend of adventure and fun.

Cleo is an amazing main character. I loved her inner spirit to fight and how she never backed down from a challenge. I loved how the author explored her inner struggles as an omega and how that contributed to her need to fight back against the injustices of her world.

Cleo is another urban fantasy herione I admire just like Tessa from This Dark Wolf.

Sam is just mysterious and snarky, and his chemistry with Cleo is so intense. His character is the right amount of alpha, and I just admired him.

The plot and the world building are just very fascinating. Humans are long gone, and supernatural creatures live in different realms and areas. Angels rule the heavans. The mystery as to what Cleo is something I want to know as well.

I will admit, there is a lot of angst and slow steamy scenes that back up the majority of the plot, but asides from that, I just loved this book.

I don’t know if I will be reading other books in this series, but I will say that I recommend this to anyone looking for a fun steamy read.

DNF at 56%.

The dialogue is horrendous. No matter which character is speaking the dialogue is choppy and stilted. Which makes absolutely no sense because the description in this book is well written. It is as if two separate people wrote this book, one for dialogue and one for everything else. I picked up this book because Amazon has it listed as #1 in Vampire Suspense. How? I'm 56% in to the book and haven't seen a single vampire. Cleo is a wolf shifter mixed with some unknown demon element and Sam is an angel incubus demon hybrid thing. Where are the vampires?! Maybe they show up after I stopped reading but at that point I was so fed up with the dialogue and the FMC who is too stupid to live that IDGAF to find out. This book had great potential but failed to deliver.

Look my standards aren't even that high. I read alien romance novels. I read some truly trashy stuff with a wide range of quality of writing. But I don't know if I'm burnt out on the standard urban fantasy chick who seems to attract every possible male in the story with terrible dialogue and flat character development / world building but.... I think I lost some IQ points here. DNF at 50%.

I just finished reading ‘A Demon’s Pet,’ Book 1 of Rise of the Morningstar series by Domino Savage (also known as best selling shifter romance novelist Terry Bolyrder!) And I have to tell you, this book is completely my cuppa tea 🫖 ! (This is spoiler-free FYI!)

The story is about a FMC who is a wolf 🐺 shifter that lives in a pretty crappy 👎🏻 community of shifters who belittles & abuse her ever since it was known that she was an ‘Omega’ (the lowest on the pecking order.) But even though all these ‘Alpha’ wolves treat her horribly, they still ‘want’ her 😉. There’s a mating 💍 ceremony that she desperately tries to run away from, but she’s captured ⛓ the eye 👁 of a certain Alpha 🐺 and before she knows it, all hell breaks lose (thanks to her sassy-self 👊🏻 !) Insert a sexy as hell executioner 🪓 with black wings 😇 , and things really take-off 🚀!

So if you are an Urban Fantasy lover AND you love some steam 🔥, this book is right up your alley! It really is the PERFECT combination of both! Even though it takes place in different realms, it has a really modern “our world” feel and straight-to-the-point 🎯 writing in the first person POV (MY FAV 🙌🏻!) (FYI I’m always talking about ‘plain’ writing… I ❤️ skipping mental gymnastics 🤸‍♀️ and just PAGE TURNING 📖 !... and this is definitely one of those!!) The FMC is just super ballsy and kicka$s 🤺! I’m totally IN LOVE 💜 with her!! I’m a sucker for a bully trope and being along for the ride 🚗 of a FMC fighting back 🥷 ! AND THIS DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I LOVED 💜 LOVED 💜 LOVED 💜 how spunky she is and how she just couldn’t let things go! She HAS to fight back with everything she’s got 👊🏻 ! And it is SO refreshing 🌬 to have INSTANT ⏰ gratification from a strong 💪🏻 FMC right from the onset 👏🏻 (instead of waiting books for it to happen!) There was one scene in particular where I was like….yesssssss girl 🙌🏻! And I was legitimately fist pumping 👊🏻, I kid you not 😆! This was the moment where I was like…yeah… she’s totally a UF bada$ss 🙌🏻!

So the fantasy ✨ aspect is pretty great! There is more going on than meets the eye 👁 and it’s pretty cool 😎 plotline unfolding 👏🏻! I’m actually LOVING the different realms and all of the different species 🦁. I have to say though that when MCs go to different realms 🌏 , I can get a bit lost 🤔 in the descriptions and lack of action. This is really because I’m a romance 💗 girl at heart. Throw 🏈 in some sexy 🥵 bada$s MMC’s and my ears 👂 perk up & I get super interested 😆. And that is EXACTLY what happens in this book 🙌🏻! We visit different realms, but we ALSO get additional characters that kept me pretty dang interested in what was next for Cleo romance-wise! 👏🏻

But let’s talk about the REALLY good stuff! The MMC…. Yowza 🔥🔥🔥! I LOVE ❤️ this guy! He’s such a bada$s! Super sexy 🥵! And he’s got a smirk 😏! I LOVE smirks 😏😏😏! I love his aloofness 😑 combined with his possessiveness 😠. He’s like a walking oxymoron and I’m here for it 🙋🏻‍♀️ 😂! I was SO SCARED 😱 this would be Fade-to-Black! But I assure you, it is not 🙌🏻! The steam 🔥 is pretty close to my idea of perfect 👏🏻! Not Fade-to-Black and not too explicit. Just right 🤩. Honestly, it feels like after years of UFs being written with great fantasy plotlines and just hints 🤏🏻 of steam 🔥, this author was like… nahhh.. why not just do both!?! 😆 And I’m SO glad they did because I’m feeling it! 🙋🏻‍♀️😁😁😁

So if you are into a bully/capturer trope where the FMC kicks back quickly, a bada$s 🤺 FMC that is really Urban Fantasy worthy, and some HOT 🥵 steam with a sexy 🔥 MMC… this book may be just for you! It’s free on KU, so give it a shot! You never know! It may be just the book that captures ⛓ YOU!

Good enough

I liked the story well enough. It was different and i enjoyed reading it. However i didn't like the leaf character. She just wasn't really well developed and in my opinion she just was too immature always making bad choices. I'm looking forward to another book because i do like the story and i have faith in the author to do better. I'm hoping the story keeps developing into something greater.

I loved this plot and the mix of fae, shifters, angels, demons, vampires, and more. It’s set in a dystopian-esque Earth destroyed by humans and retaken by the paranormal and supernatural sects. There’s a dark, morally grey love interest who has a love for killing and a feisty female, who starts off incredibly ignorant (and thus annoying at times) but learns and grows through the story. There was also diverse representation.

However, the dialogue killed me at times. It was difficult to discern individual voices and the statements were, at times, cliched and unnatural. Sometimes it took me out of the story which made me frustrated because the plot and characters were so interesting. There were typos and some writing issues, as well.

Yeah don't know how I got this far because the book was majority: same exact stupid conversations just different locations over and over and over. That, and what appears to be a 'throw every supernatural I can think of into this book and hope for the best' kinda situation.

description

Also, the contradictory conversations one after another ad nauseam was giving me angry feels

Don't trust him he's an evil killer!
to
Well he did save your life you should trust him

Then right back to the don't fall for such a cold hearted bastard lines while at the same time asking Cleo to cut Sam some slack because he's just genuinely trying to help while explaining NOTHING. (I couldn't take one more 'he just waiting for somewhere private to tell you everything' conversations)

description

Also, Cleo's mental gymnastics and frankly dim witted motivations had me reeling. Plus her inner monologues? Yikes. "Am I just a pet? But he seems to care, but he's mean, oh I don't care just horny, but I'm a prisoner, but he saved me!?!

Like I just can't ya'll.

The 2 star are for Sam….Cleo should have been left for dead as she is too stupid and naive to live. Sam saves her from the hell of her village, take her with him to next village where Griffin is joined to their little party and Cleo and Griffin are instant BFF’s..on way to next location they had to stop for Cleo to rest, which happen to be Minotaur territory, so what does she do shift and run around and attracted them so now Sam has to kill them. Off to the fae who hate demons and what does the stupid girl do, cozy’s right up to one,, even though she was warned. She touted that Sam was nice and only killed when necessary but most of his killing involved her stupid decisions..she is suppose to be 22, but had the mental maturity level of a 12 year old, also she is such a badass cuz she had martial arts as a child. Really is that why she got her ass handled to her in her village. I had to stop reading, this book could have been a 4 or 5 star except for Cleo character you would think from her history she would not be as trusting to those she meets at least give it 24 hrs before you declare bff.

DNF.

One thing I liked about the story, the heroine's definitely no pushover...but I also can't say I like her hot-temper and brashness that just rubs me the wrong way.

For all the five stars review, I guess I was expecting a different kind of story...umm the characters just weren't my kind of people and this story was a mix of young adult and fantasy romance. This isn't the book, but rather just a personal preference. I couldn't click with the characters at all, and well...if you like American TV Drama with problematic kids and relationship? This is one you'll likely enjoy.

FMC was an idiot and spent the whole book till I quit just doing opposite to what the H asked. Even tho she had no clue about the politics or world. I hate nothing more than a FMC who is "independent but makes very dumb choices" thus leading her to saved multiple times.

This is an amazing book! No let me rephrase this. This is an AWESOME book!

There. Better ♥️

I'm not usually a big paranormal romance fan because it's a hit or miss for me. Either I will be *meh* or I will be blown away. And fuck me, was I blown away with this.

This story had literally everything. Character speaking it had angels, demons, fae, shifters, minotaurs, vampires and more.

Plot speaking? It had the slow start. The even slower "middle" part where all the goodies happened.
All the secrets. All the slow burn. The sexual attraction. The sexual frustration. The sexy spicy situations that kept me hooked. 🥵 The forbidden. The revelations. The action. The drama. Friends. Enemies. Prophecies. Battles.

You get the idea.

The book tells the story of Cleo. She's an omega wolf and also a..demon? Who knows at this point. She's something else as well anyway.

In her village the omegas are treated as shit. They pretty much consider them slaves and they believe that they're lower than anyone else. Well..fuck that shit. She is a very powerful woman that doesn't accept that. She won't bend the knee to anyone.

This behaviour though? Puts her in a dangerous situation. It unlocks something inside her. Something that it was hidden until then. So now she is considered a threat that needs to be eliminated.

Samael is a dark angel. He is a slayer. He is the one people call when they want someone killed. So when he arrives to take Cleo's life he realises that things with her are much more complicated than other people think.
Sam is an enigma. He is dark and full of secrets. Being around him is not an easy task.

These two together? Their chemistry? 🥵 Fucking hell. You're not ready.

Please have in mind that this is slow burn and yes that means that everything happens slooow. Also it is not a standalone. It has another book after it and I can't wait to start it. I realized that it wouldn't be a one book thing around the middle because we had so many facts and situations but not enough time left.

This was a surprising read for me. Usually I don't expect a lot from paranormal romance but this was something else. I would definitely recommend it!

Captures your attention and keeps you wanting more

I wasn't sure what to make of this new series but I could not out it down. It did not take me long to get hooked. I absolutely loved this book.
Mind you I did not like the way the wolves treated Cleo and the Omegas. That system they had was definitely set up by bullies to make them feel superior. With all that power and all they could do with it to benefit everyone instead they used it on the weakest in their pack whom they should have been protecting and not abusing. Was more like a bully system in reality and not an alpha omega system. How Cleo was ever deemed an omega was just plain stupid based on how she always acted which was stubborn, defiant and against all authority. I'm still flabbergasted by how her parents treated her. I may understand their reasoning but she was their daughter to protect and love which they never ever did.
I admit when Cleo goes to the far realm, I kind of wanted to smack her and tell her to open her eyes. She knew nothing about other realms or people in those realms and her mentality was they are nice to me they must be honest and good. Who would trust that easily? I blame a lot of her stupidity on Dam and Os for not explaining how different realms were and the powers those people could have.
Fall in love with Griffin because he definitely was true to his nature. He is such a protector and softy but he needed more information so he wouldn't do stupid things.
Wait until you meet Simon! A vampire that kind of makes you want him as your best friend.
The characters are so relatable and the story just keeps you wanting to see what is next. I never saw the ending happening the way it did.
I finished the book wanting an inch bus as my lover. Those scenes were hot, hot, HOT! I want Griffin for my pet and protector. And I am wondering when the next book will be out because this book got me hook, line and sinker from the beginning. A trip go he'll should be interesting. Bravo for the start of an intriguing new series!

I just finished this book and I immediately downloaded the sequel. I can't wait to find out how Cleo, aka the Morningstar, is going to save the paranormal world. I can't wait to learn more about so many things in the exceptionally fleshed out world as well.

And you can't forget about Samael, the hottie sex demon/archangel/sex on legs. I want a Sam for myself, even if he is somewhat of an asshole and can't admit his deep feelings for Cleo. He has so much depth, that as the story progresses and the world building grows, you peel another layer and another layer from his character. I really wish the readers could get part of the story from his point of view, because I'm SO curious how his inner monologue and inner emotions and thoughts work firsthand.

And Cleo, the wolf shifter/super powerful demon/The Morningstar is another extraordinary female character who continues to grow as a person as the story and plot builds. I can't wait to see what else her future destiny and her newly found powers develop in the next installment.

‼️Some minor spoilers ahead: ‼️

Almost there; you've been warned ‼️⚠️‼️

And don't forget about a the side characters: Simon (vampire king of mid realm), Mor (female archangel), Os (archangel/fairy hybrid with gorgeous dark skin and purple eyes and hair), Griffin (the Griffin shifter who's super protective of Cleo and in love with Os), Cayne (Sam's slayer demon brother who we think is dead, but we're not completely sure), and many others that are good and evil, but make the story/plot so rich and plentiful.

I really want to see whether everyone's going to forgive Is for what he almost did at the end and whether he and Griffin will get together (finally) or if Griffin ends up with Simon. Hell, I wouldn't mind at all if Griffin ended up with both of them; that would make an amazing menage MMM book all on its own. 😂❤️😘

Anyway, I'm off to read the sequel.

Not good

Where do I even begin? Well first I want to say I didn't make it past 42% of the read. There is so much of this that's so confusing/unexplained? The world building is zero, so hearing little bits here and there about the slayers, the fae, cougars and other odds and end creatures is mind boggling. Trying to understand the Angels? Confusing! I have zero idea what their purpose is completely. Also, why so much hate for the demons? We get zero to no explanation on them period so far. And if that doesnt deter you. Then the H and her goofy angel will. I'm sorry but our H is like a box of rocks stupīd, followed by TSTL mindset. I felt myself aspirated with her thinking process (if we even wanna call it that). And then the ridiculous dumb stunts she pulled. Quite literally, There is nothing going on inside the brain of hers. Angel guy is a rude prick, and yet our H loves every minute of his degrading and horrible ways he likes to treat her. Sigh. I also just want to say the whole blurb about her being her packs scapegoat? Even the little mention in the book of her explaining she's the scapegoat? yeah, that's not what you think it means. And so far the little tid bit is wildly Inaccurate and incorrect.

Hmmm. I liked it. BUT I agree that the writing was a little funny. I got tired of the large dictionary words that really didn’t seem to flow (like okay we get it you know big words) and I agree with other readers that the MC Cleo is hella annoying because she is constantly doing the opposite and is impossibly stubborn, almost as if she is an *~actual~* idiot. Like jeeeeeze.
The story did move a little slow - lots of pages that kept the plot in the same place to describe unnecessary things with those large weird dictionary words. Also almost every descriptor was really funny, almost made me laugh out loud in some cases. I wish I could remember a specific example but oh well.

Okay it sounds like I hate the book, but I didn’t. It’s an OK read, not the best but certainly not the worst.

We’ll see what I say about the 2nd book because I don’t know how to stop myself from reading series or trilogies even if I’m like MEH about a book because I’m nosy and love the tea so I have to read it in order to find out. 🥰😘

The story had some minor issues but I found it enjoyable. The idea was fun and new. The alpha/omega stuff didn't really do it for me and I could have used less explicit sex. I found myself skimming the sex parts. Griffin was a bit of an annoying white knight fanboy, acting like she was the only girl he's ever seen before He was more okay towards the end but while they were in the fey town it made me roll my eyes repeatedly. I still don't understand the stuff about realms and how they work. Are you born to a specific realm? Is it based on your parentage? Or how did Samael get to be a ninth level when Gabe was only fifth but then sort of became ninth? Did Samael kill his way to the top or?

Will be moving on to the next one right away!

Wow

This is a very interesting book! I got sucked in from the start. It starts off pretty stereotypical from other shifter books, girl is abused by alpha, mating ceremony, girl is rejected, or in this case she does the rejecting, a antihero swoops in and saves her. Yada yada
But while it starts off like that, the rest of the book is just amazing. I don’t want to give any spoilers so I’ll keep it at that. You’ll be sucked in and won’t even want to put it down. I’m dying for the next one! Which comes to my second problem with the book. The author said there is NO cliffhanger, but there is. You’re left with so many questions and the characters were given big news right before the book ended. Which upset me thinking we’d get more closure for it not having a cliffhanger, but there is one. But I’m not so upset to we’re I’m mad lol. I’m just mad I have to wait for the next book!

Great world building! This book takes a much different take on omegas compared to many others. Omegas are “treasured” but really seen as the weakest link and bullied often. The uniqueness of the characters and how they play a different role from what is normal led expected in PNR is refreshing. There’s definitely strong chemistry between Sam and Cleo, but they only physically act on it a few times throughout the book. High expectations for book 2!

Now, this is a truly original storyline. Cleo has seriously been going through some things. In an effort to save her life a deal is made. This story has a lot of action and twists in it, it makes for an interesting reading experience. This is not your normal story all about romance, this is survival and working hard to exist. This is built on wonderful fantasy. I enjoyed the story and look forward to more.

Torn for a rating…

Some things I enjoyed about the book-the world building, unique and vast array of creatures, the main male character had a good story arc and progressed throughout the book. An original fantasy tale and a unique quest.
The main female character however just left a bad taste in my mouth at the end. She was weak more often than not throughout the book, was making the same mistakes throughout even though she was constantly told not to do things she did anyway, which was just dumb and jeopardized the other main character(s) constantly. I feel like her character could of matured so much more and evolved, but by the end she was still insecure and not believing in herself. Sad really. Lots of great things just disappointed in another weak female character that needs the man to save her every single time, I guess I’m not really into that overused storyline. If another book comes out I will probably read it because I gotta know what happens with Sam and the other fun characters!!
