Rate this book
Senescence follows bionics doctor and ex-drug addict, Clarence, as he meets a new friend after the loss of an old one. With over a millennia’s experience in the stars, the Amalgamate, Rüdiger, helps Clarence understand the true wonder and fragility of humanity and mortality. The cyborg shows Clarence that one is never too old for childish amazement and discovery, leaving the doctor to struggle with his own mortality and the decision to stay on a planet he only holds hatred towards or to leave and discover something new for himself.

This is a really moving and thought-provoking piece of short fiction. Stevens somehow effortlessly envelopes the reader in a really dense and layered sci-fi world in just a few short pages. Some very interesting questions about purpose and mortality! Hearing how Clarence and the Amalgamate's stories overlap was fascinating.
