I really enjoyed losing myself in this book. It was fun to dream of future trips and get a sense of accomplishment from realizing the places I'd already visited and enjoyed. It's a great planning tool for anyone contemplating a road trip, one of my most favorite ways to travel and explore, when combined with lots of walking at each destination along the way.
Absolutely brilliant. I was marking pages to photocopy for future reference and finally gave up because I had so many! 😂 Decided to go ahead and buy a copy or two for my home library and 2024-2025 vacation planning.

I read travel books for fun even when not planning a trip, because I'm always dreaming about planning a trip. Normally, I don't review them, because I don't read them cover to cover, but I did for this book. It was comprehensive and interesting. It covered more than just the greatest hits. Makes me want to take so many road trips.
Perfect for anyone who wants to plan a trip within the United States, the Bucket List USA 2022 edition is divided into ten chapters, eight of which are about specific regions around the country, with the other two being about "experiences" and special itineraries. The Experience Bucket List chapter covers travel information such as iconic landmarks, national parks, natural attractions, historic sites, museums, and roadside attractions, as well as special interests like festivals, sports, wildlife and family-friendly travel. There are even a few pages dedicated to the best souvenirs, wacky state laws and state booze. The Great Itineraries chapter includes 16 special itineraries ranging in length from six days to three weeks, covering a variety of locations and interests. I am sure that the longer itineraries could be whittled down for those with less time to travel but an interest in the topic and locations. Each of the eight regional chapters includes some details on the general location including top reasons to go and a quick blurb about each state in the region, some suggestions on what to eat and drink, and a regional snapshot of "what to know before you go", big events, reading, watching, and listening suggestions, and travel related contacts for the region. Each regional chapter also includes a short section specifically about each state in that region with top bucket list sights and experiences, as well as a couple of suggestions for places to stay. As with all Fodor travel guides, there are plenty of photos, as well as helpful maps for each region.
I have found, in general, if something is a Fodor's Choice Recommendation (discounting things for children) I will like it, so how can you go wrong with a book full of the top Fodor's Choice recommendations?... well by not providing any maps!
This means if you are in a new state, you have to Google everything on the list to see if it is close enough to visit. Seriously, how difficult would it be to provide maps?
Do you know how frustrating it is to find out that you drove past the top 5 recommendations for an entire state 5 hours ago?
