For humanity, it’s not a race anymore; it’s a battle for survival. The world changed, and no one knew it. Before the first of many outbreaks, Dr. Addison Bennett never expected to lose her sister, Saige, a second time. Now faced with the possibility Shulon were not what they appeared, their promises of peace and hope for a better future fell short. Humanity underestimated Shulon influence. Addison and her colleagues are now in a race against time to discover why she survived the infestation while others around her fell victim to the dark fate. Saige Bennett was an ordinary girl with no big plans for the future. Like the rest of the world, she wasn’t expecting aliens to show up and start making plans without her. Somehow, she managed to survive drowning at sea while some of her friends had died. When facing modern-day pirates stealing free-floating debris following the hurricane, Saige found out that she had something powerful in store for them. Protecting her sister and Captain Glen Blanchard from murderous morons, Saige learned she harbored a secret. It had cost Saige her life — again. This time, in a secret location, Saige learns the difference between Shulon and Hania. It isn’t what she had expected. It isn’t like anything humanity has faced before as a dominant species. No one is prepared for what will happen next.
The suspense is palpable! Faced with two alien races who do you believe? Although the Shulon have convinced most of the world that they are here to save them there are some skeptics. Among these skeptics are Dr Addison Bennett and her sister Saige. After being attacked/absorbed by the black gooey mass and surviving Dr Addison puts together brilliant minds to study what is happening. She is the only known survivor and these attacks are happening around the planet. When Saige dies and survives again she learns about the differences and differing intentions between the two alien species. Although terrified Saige decides that she must leave her protected location and somehow communicate what she has learned about the two species. Hopefully she is in time and humanity will choose wisely before the unthinkable happens. I received this ARC and this is my honest review.
