*Sent a beta reader copy* 4.25? 4.5?** Rounding up ❤️.
AH this was hard to rate. I loved this book a lot honestly. It had me from the very first page. The writing was great, the characters were realistic and flawed in all the right ways, and the pacing was perfect. I am really impressed with the development of the characters, story, and style since the first book. Ended again on a HUGE cliffhanger and twist that I DID NOT see coming. Literally was yelling out loud I couldn’t believe it. Can’t wait for the next installment.

As a fan of Jahmil's first book, I was so excited to get a message from him to read his second book. Let me say, the cover art was amazing along with the character prints I received of some of the characters that I've come to know throughout the book and it's always wonderful to put faces to the images I have in my head. Also, can we all agree on picture maps are the best?! I love a book with picture maps, to see the layout of the world to me is just.. the chef's kiss!

Like the first book, this book is also in the point of view of the characters. We have the point of view from Aron, Ryleigh, Asher, and Fabian; all of who take you on their views of the world and in their lives through this exciting adventure.

For me, following Aron through this story was the best. From the very beginning of the second book you find that he was a prisoner to the High Council, his journey from there to the end when he is almost knocked off his feet as someone he thought died is seemingly back from the dead. Also, another cliffhanger! Who is this woman in black? Is there going to be a third book?! My thoughts are just endless and keep me on my toes!

This medieval fantasy book was even more engaging than the first one in the series! The character development and side plots kept me reading. It overall is an easy read filled with a moving plot and world building. I throughly enjoyed the new POV characters and how they relate to the world. The big concept of the book was very interesting. The ending included a big cliff hanger and reveal that I never would have guessed but should have from the clever foreshadowing. I can’t wait for the 3rd book of the series to see what happens next!

This book was so much better than the first and you can really tell how important plot lines had to be set up in book one. I absolutely loved all the twists and turns it took. My jaw dropped multiple times and I’m not usually good at staying engaged during battles or political talk but this book had love and drama intertwined with it. I just kept wanting more. You’ll fall in love with characters and find yourself screaming at them, I highly recommend for anyone that likes fantasy with a little bit of light romance.
