While I enjoy science fiction as much as the next person and am always up for any book featuring dinosaurs, this book left me disappointed. That said, I've never watched the Netflix series so maybe I'm missing something that its fans found compelling. Instead, what I read here seemed to be a series of short sentences and short paragraphs strung together almost as though they were simply describing what was happening in simple fashion. Often, one section followed one or two of this band of six teens and then switched off to the other group in a rather jarring style. While I appreciated the youngsters' attempts to thwart the evil, morally bankrupt Kash, at every turn, the kids always seemed to avoid disaster just by the stroke of good luck or good timing, something I found very hard to believe. I liked some of the exchanges between the characters and their fondness for the dinosaurs, but I wish there had been stronger character development, more description, and that the adults in the book hadn't seemed so helpless or clueless. Poor Dr. Turner just seemed to be standing by and letting all this happen around her. Surely, that wouldn't be the case for an adult who is so well-educated and capable. UGH! Still, I know the series' fans won't regard the book in the same way that I have. I had to force myself to trudge through it to the very end.
My son and I have enjoyed each Camp Cretaceous book, but this was one but this one wasn't as enjoyable as the previous three. The biggest issue is the chapters are far longer than the previous books. My son found this one much harder to read. Each chapter could have been broken up in two and given him a better reading experience. He also got bored with the "romance" stuff.
More dinos, less "liking", and shorter chapters in the next installment please.
The novelization of series four of the animated show. The gang have escaped Jurassic World, but are washed up on a new island that gives them new, nastier problems. Skimpily written, it seems clear that the writer has become bored with these books and wants to get them over with as fast as possible. An uninspiring read.
I LOVE the Netflix series whole-heartedly and as much as I love these book adaptations they don't hold the same oomph as the series. (also small side note when is book 5 coming out???!!!) Slightly disappointed to be honest but it's cool for a light and easy read after watching the show!
Behling couldn't perform the miracle of turning the very rubbish season 4 into a good book. But he saved us from most of the awkward and useless Kenlynn scenes and that's a win.
