USA Today Bestselling author Angela Pepper lives with her family in the rainy Pacific Northwest, surrounded by spoiled kitties, deer, raccoons, and the biggest woodpeckers you've ever seen.
If I had read the first book as a standalone I never would've continued the series after. But since this is a boxset I kept hoping it would get better. I made it to book 5 and I just can't take it anymore. Book 1, while there were definitely some good laughs, I didn't particularly love it. My biggest issue was with Chet, he set off all my internal alarm bells from the moment they set hello. He just seems untrustworthy, too many secrets, hidden agendas, he's clearly involved somehow with what brought Zara and Zoey to town and half the time he's being nice to her it feel like he's after something, trying to manipulate her somehow. Really not what you're hoping or looking for in a potential love interest. I swear, I'm almost hoping he turns out to be the bad guy.
Plus what's with all the cryptic - Chet, Don, Zinnia, the whole freaking lot of them. Despite the briefness of their meeting I liked the sound of Bentley a whole lot better. Much more intriguing. Can't help but wonder at times if there's some form of mind control, memory wipes/manipulation or some timey-whimey stuff going on. The resolution of the first mystery was rather sudden and even worse happened pretty much entirely off page, so really what was the point?!? The reveal was not surprising, and apart from that nothing else got resolved. Which is just really annoying and if this were a separate book it would probably piss me of so much I wouldn't continue on principal. Luckily this is box set so I'll try out book 2, but I already know I won't tolerate the cryptic shit for much longer.
Book 2 It's official, I absolutely hate Chet - with a vengeance! He's complete and utter asshole who has yet to provide a single answer while continuing to quizz her. Zinnia isn't a whole lot better. I hate the stunts both of them keep pulling on her, so much so they have me in angry tears that's how mad they make me. It's like one big conspiracy where everyone's just using and abusing her and she just lets them. At this point I'm only keeping at it cause I want to see it blow up in their faces, have them get their comeuppance. Cause if they don't this will be a 1 star review guaranteed. Glad to see Bentley again, a much better love interest IMHO
Book 3 As glad as I am that some of the Chet-shitshow was finally, well not resolved really, but at least we get some answers! Even if he remained a complete bastard throughout. And I absolutely hated how she just took it. No anger, no outrage. He freaking dragged her daughter into it!!!Never showing the slightest hint of regret or remorse. He should be in prison or at the very least some serious karma, not "oh let me help you pick the perfect cantaloupe!" And then it had to go and end with another rather heavy-handed teaser. Cheap cheap tricks. Really not helping to improve the rating. The one thing I did love was Frank! So much fun!!
Book 4 Once again with all the mind-whammies. Getting sick and tired of them. Really didn't like how they kept messing with Bentley. Besides which I was convinced that he's already some kind of supe... guess we'll just have to wait and see. Other than that my two main thoughts during this book were how it's starting to get quite formulaic. And the author must be one hell of man hater. Still with all the secrecy which I have to say makes no sense whatsoever in such a magical town and what for?!? when in all of the four books I've read so far the only actual surprise was Chessa's "other" form. Zara's happy whacky doormat act is starting to get really old. I've been pushing through mostly for Bentley's sake, but I don't know how much more of the writers manipulative bullshit I can stand...
Book 5 - the neverending weekend. The whole book takes place over one weekend and yet it felt endless... it didn't help that the lot of it was messy, convoluted and drawn-out (400+ pages). Most of the time I was bored or beyond fed up with all the family drama. No sight of the payback we were promised either. Nope. The opposite, her mom turns out to be as bad, secretive and manipulative as her dad, but somehow it's all okay with her?!? The thing with Bentley was utterly sickening. Both the constant mind whammies and manipulation and as an extension of that the whole "blueberry muffin" thing. Gag, gag, double gag! Which basically ruined the only thing that kept me coming back. The fun and humor has all but completely disappeared from the series. The only fun bit was Ribbons. By now the gist of the series rings like this "Everybody lies. Zara continues to be gullible doormat to be used, lied to, manipulated and betrayed and without ever getting properly angry, much less doing anything about or God-forbid actually learn from it, smarten up..."
And I'm done. I've no interest in Zinnia's books and I realized if I want to keep the last bit of sanity remaining I need to stop now.
When Halloween time was approaching and I was craving a goofy witcher-i-doo story, I found this one free to borrow from Prime Reading.
Book 1, Wisteria Witches - 3 stars. I had read this one before and here’s the review: Here was the man I'd been looking for, the man I could be myself with. After sixteen years of nothing substantial, I was ready. Ready to open my heart, to bare my soul, to make terrible mistakes in the name of love.
The story is just OK, but the dialog/thought processes are slightly too quirky-cutesy-perky for my taste. I may continue the series, but probably not unless the books are free or discounted.
I could have spent an hour practicing my sponge-twisting technique, but I was interrupted by a knock at the door. My heart pounded guiltily as my mind raced with paranoia. It was the witch police! They could tell I was practicing magic without their authorization and without half a clue!
Book 2, Wicked Wisteria - 4 stars So, then the stories grew on me. Either they got better or I was just in the mood. Or probably both.
My priorities in life were looking after my daughter, then myself, then my career, etcetera, with dating far down the list, somewhere in the vicinity of shoe shopping. Fun but frivolous.
Book 3, Wisteria Wonder - 4 stars
Book 4, Watchful Wisteria- 4 stars And so, while my fox-shifter father chased a white cat around the house, and my daughter sulked about not being a witch yet, my aunt and I drank wine and set up the ingredients to perform a tandem-witch spell to summon a pair of dog ghosts. Just a typical Tuesday night for the Riddles.
Book 5, Wisteria Wyverns - 4 stars
Humankind has invented many incredible things, yet they haven’t mastered a swimsuit that doesn’t try to disappear up your crack when you’re leaving the water. Any woman who can get out of a swimming pool without awkward yanking must be a witch who’s figured out the perfect anti-crack-creeping spell.
During their passionate storage room encounter, had he taken something from Jo Pressman? Some part of her life force? Or could he have given her something? Like a sexually transmitted magical infection—an STMI for short?
Book 6, Wolves of Wisteria - 4 stars Aunt Zinnia’s book. She’s been so secretive; it was good to find out more.
Book 7, Wisteria Wrinkle - 3 stars Also about Zinnia and time travel/alternate universe-type stuff. This was was more “out there” and a bit convoluted.
Book 8, Wardens of Wisteria - 4 stars Back to Zara’s perspective.
The first book is great and they get better as you get father along! Great quirky characters, lots of humor with a day off mystery thrown in. The author jokes she wants to see a series made out of it, and I can see it. I could almost read these books even without the main plot. Zara and the rest of the cast just feel fun to be around. Don't expect any world ending threats and pure evil villains. Ideal of you started to get sick of reading the umpteenth, we need to save the world, and everything is bleak etc. Wisteria is wonderful world with much left to give it you give it a try.
3.5 stars - This was a decent use of one credit. Light cozy witchy audio. 72 hours I think. Good as a background listen while doing crafting and chores.
Two different MC so 2 different readers, both did a nice job.
The 1st book was kind of slow, but I really enjoyed the sassy crazy interactions. Really liked it til the end. But then I found out there are plenty more after this. I haven't decided whether to continue or not.....
Cozy Witch Mysteries is such a great boxset full of addicting books! Zara is by far one of the funniest, full-of-life characters I've read about, and it's so hard to put these books down. It's a definite case of "one more chapter" syndrome, but then, after you finish one, you've just gotta read the next one, to find out her next adventure. I'm not going to lie, I could've done without books 6&7-- the books from Zinnia's POV. They do provide backstory on Zara's Aunt Zinnia through the events of the first five books, but they weren't my favorite and for me, personally, really hard to get through, so I'm really glad book 8 is back to Zara's POV. Can't wait to read book #9!!
I liked this book for a few different reasons. First, the books are light hearted. They don't drag you down, and they leave you wanting more. First, we have Zara and her daughter Zoey, pull up stakes and moves to the quaint town of Wisteria. She then meets her aunt. On the birthday of Sara's taught she become imbued with magic. Her Aunt Zinnia explains that she thought that Zara's daughter Zoey was the one who she assumed was the one who would becoming into her powers. From there on you will read of many escapades as Sara learns how to use her powers. I highly recommend this series.
Zara and daughter find out they have moved to a town of witches, gorgon, shifters and other monsters.
Zara has brought her fifteen year old daughter across the states to a new home. And for her a new job, librarian. A job she has worked hard to earn. Now she finds the town is full of shifters, witches, and other monsters that move around in day as well as night and her Aunt Zinnia is a witch and she is a — and her daughter is something else. Oh what has she done moving here!
Loved every minute of reading this box set and cannot wait to collect the other books. Superb characters, great plots, laugh out loud humour. What more could you possibly be looking for. It takes someone special to be able to turn a murder scene into something funny?! You are missing a treat if you do not read this series, oh and make sure you read the author's notes at the end of each book, well worth it.
These were the first books I've read by Angela Pepper. I was pleased by the way she was able to weave bits of future stories in to each book. She has also kept me intrigued and wanting to read more. I am looking forward to reading more books about Zara and her companions in Wisteria. If you like a look into a witches day to day life. This series is a great way to fill that need. Try it out. Enjoy!
I enjoyed reading this Cozy Witch series with its 8 volumes. Getting to know all the many characters in detail, laughing along with them through their many misadventures was really satisfying for me. But I couldn’t seem to stop between books. Now I will take a break and try another author before I come back to the final volumes (8 more I think!). Thanks Angela for keeping me entertained through much sewing and long walks!
I was looking for something new to read when I came across this collection of books. After reading a few books about love, I was looking for something light hearted and fun. I found that here with Zara Riddle and her clan. I felt like I wasn’t going to get really into these stories, but I got hooked pretty early on. There were a lot of fun surprises and twists in each book. Some of it may seem a little predictable, but I can overlook it because of how much fun I was having.
I even started imagining who would play each character if we ever get lucky enough to see this on screen. I enjoyed jumping into this magical world and I am looking forward to the rest of the books. I also really liked reading the author’s letter at the end of each book. It’s nice to know about the thought process of how the books come together, and just get to know the author as well.
Didn't love, love it but did get sucked into the drama
I actually loved Zinnia and Zoey best, but Zara had some great moments too. Being a new witch with a teenage daughter born when she herself was a teenager means Zara isn't always going to set the right example. Trying to wrap her head around her new life in Wisteria with family she hasn't spent much time with in the past is a lot more work but especially difficult when your magical gift is your ability to commune with ghosts. Not everyone is who they seem, everyone wants something from her, and being late to the magical scene means a lot of missteps for the sassy redhead. By the end of this set, Zara still has a lot to learn but at least she isn't alone. Surrounded by family and friends, she'll continue to find herself in dangerous situations but at least have back up so she herself doesn't end up dead.
Just can’t get into it. 9 chapters in and I’ve learned more from the synopsis than the book. How can a synopsis reveal so much only for the book to take its sweet time? It’s not a mystery if the first line of the synopsis tells us what’s going on.
Also. I just don’t care for the writing. Too many inconsistencies. Like talking about an event that happened “last night” when it was actually two nights ago. Or Zara’s dumb decision to do the Friday clean out on a Monday and throw away lunches because they “looked moldy” when they were actually someone’s cultural dishes. Idk. Felt naive and vaguely racist. But the reasoning didn’t even make sense. It was all just dumb.
But largely, I’m just bored out of my mind and apparently don’t care to read witchy Gilmore girls fan fiction.
I read all 8 books, and I'd rather not actually buy, individually, each of the other ain't in the series Boon but I posted each of the first seven books separately, although without reviews. Here's my overall review. Witch books are always good for a laugh, as much because The whole idea of witches is ridiculous as most anything else. Of course, I enjoy sci-fi and magic occasionally, too, and for the most part those are equally ridiculous, but whatever... Anyway, there was an actual story building and behind these books, and there's more to it than just a standard witch story. I will try to get further books in this series, but I refuse to spend over $10 (or even $5) each...
It wasn't a bad set of books. I was a little taken back as all the things that happened kept getting weirder with each book. I liked the fact that it was full of humor and dumb things to laugh about. It is definitely a good break from my more serious reading. I will have to keep the rest of the books in mind for future readings. Zara and her family are something else and seem to make the best of things. If you are looking for something to read that is easy this might just be the thing so give it a try.
I enjoyed this book bundle. The stories and characters grow with every book and the world building is progressing well. I like that the author switched from Zara to Zinnia for a few books as that allowed some good filling-in of the history without having to use flashbacks. That method also served to show events from multiple viewpoints while remaining in first-person mode. Well done and I look forward to reading more from this author.
💖ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SERIES💖 FANTASTIC WIT, HUMOR AND GREAT VALUE BOX SET. l JUST LOVE this writer, she is one of my all time favorites, if you want to escape your life into a wondrous world of witches, weird creatures and a zany community, this book set is for you. It is clean, fun and humorous. Well written and brilliantly narrated. Cannot recommend enough, suitable for teenagers, the elderly and all those in between. RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR.
These books are hilarious. I have been laughing so hard the entire time I've been reading. Very enjoyable. I am currently on the third book and love that the plots are getting more complex as they go. I can't wait to finish them all. The characters are complex and beautifully imperfect. They are not as predictable as other books in the genre, so far. I also relate to the mother, she's around my age, and her struggles. It's nice to read a book that doesn't have a teenage heroine.
I usually like to read science fiction and any Dean Koontz... Somehow, something drew me to this collection. Witchcraft maybe?🪄 Suffice it to say that I'm not sorry I downloaded and read it. I am now officially an Angela Pepper fan, not to mention a fan of the supernatural residents and happenings in and around Wisteria, especially the witches)! Can't wait to read what's going on in the next books!
It probably took me 10 days and nights to finish reading these 8 books. They are addictive. I would read until my battery died and then sleep for awhile, and pick up my tablet to read some more. From one book to the next, I just had to know what happened next to this crazy witch and her family and friends. Angela writes with humor and imagination. Quite a trip, I cannot wait to get the next two books. Thank you for keeping me company and very entertained.
Witches, shifters, gorgons, goblins, sprites, vampires, ghosts, and more abound in this series of books. There is so much going on that it is very difficult to put down these books. Angela Pepper brings her characters to life with great skill and much humor. You will laugh, cry and be amazed while reading this series! If you like paranormal books, you cannot help but love these books! Happy reading! 😊
Omg. This series is amazing. I love it.Once I started this book I couldn't put it down .I read the whole book in one day. It was so good ,so intense.it had me at the edge of my seat. I can't wait to start book 9. I would definitely recommend the series to my family and friends.I like reading, but , I loved these books they make you laugh and get misty eyed. All emotions come out. Great job Angela Pepper
I loved all 8 of these books! Zara, Zoey, Zinnia, & Zirconia have made such good interactions, just like a real family would. Detective Bentley, Chet Moore, Archer Caine & all the other supporting characters were truly well written also. Every struggle & problem that occurred was well planned & fleshed out. I can't wait to read the rest of this series!
I read the first 10 books in the Sister's Witches series. The series follows the Riddle family in a paranormal town. As the characters developed and more side personalities grew into the story, it became a real favorite. If you like Amanda M. Lee \ Lily Harper Hart, then, you will like this.
These eight books in the set make for a very enjoyable series. With a large cast of characters surrounding endearing main characters, the books are well written with both humor and some wacky plots. I give this set 4 1/2 stars, and I look forward to reading more books in the series.
I loved this series. I usually don’t read a series in a row, reading different authors in between books. But, I couldn’t do that. I had to keep, going book to book and now I can’t wait to read the next installment. If you enjoy paranormal mysteries you have to read this series.
This story is great! I enjoyed reading about witches, and other mystical creatures.witches vampires ,demons and ghosts….Oh My. The mysteries are great and the way they are solved, well you will have to read them.I recommend this series to all who like “Cozy Mysteries “
I don't write reviews often, but I had to say Ms. Pepper has created an awesome series with the Wisteria Witches! The characters are complex and quirky, the dialog is witty, and the town is quaint. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!! Thank you, Ms. Pepper!!
When I started this series, become involved and always ready to read the next book. Love the change to other perspectives that puts you in touch with the family dynamics and also the small relatable quirks with everyday life.
It's exactly the kind of book that a series could be based on with a good sense of humour and intrigue.
