When Korbin returns to Kalathan he must confront old demons as he comes face to face with the man who betrayed him. Not free to worship publicly as he was in the Empire, he is impressed by the courage and ingenuity of a plucky farmer and soon puts himself in danger by coming to her defence.
This companion novel continues the story begun in The Curse of Kalathan and Brothers of Kalathan.
Kate le Roux lives in Cape Town, South Africa, where if she stands on tiptoes she can just about see Table Mountain from her kitchen window. She grew up on a diet of CS Lewis, LM Montgomery and Louisa May Alcott, and since being allowed into the Young Adult section at the local library at the age of thirteen she still hasn't really left. She spent a good number of years marking mostly horrible English essays and getting high school kids to act out bits of Shakespeare which she loved, leaving only to focus on being a mom to four crazy kids.
It was such a great to be able to immerse myself back in Kalathan with familiar characters. I loved the happy endings for some of my favorite characters. This story had the usual warmth I've come to expect from Kate Le Roux. Although this storyline runs parallel to the main storyline, it has the potential to grow into several related stories that would grow the narrative and world of Kalathan, which is so exciting - I dread the day there are no more new stories from Kalathan!
Such a great book in an excellent series. Kate is a master storyteller - story archetype is alive and well in her inner being. I am always excited to dive into her wonderful quirky worlds and lose myself in her lively characters - to exclaim out loud - Oh, I love that! - to laugh and to settle down with a deep insightful thought. Her plot does not disappoint and you are in good hands with any of Kate Le Roux's books. I can't recommend her highly enough as a gifted writer.
Back in quirky Kalathan, plucky Trina from 'The curse of Kalathan' is back, working out her faith and her heart in an action packed story with adventure, twists and turns. Very satisfying addition in the series.
