Part four! In the dark hills of West Virginia a power is growing. Dr. Ishmael Stone and his crew go to investigate the series of killings that have been occurring within and around the mines of the small town. There they find a fading community searching for life and the sad, angry Lloyd Canby. Stone begins to realize he is dealing with more than the normal case.
"There's the old pro. Aged beyond his years. Would lay down his life for his people. Blah, blah. His daughter. Working so hard for daddy's approval. My sister's a Rhodes Scholar. Believe me. I know the feeling. One who might as well be his son. One's kind. One's so full of himself, his greatest fear is probably a world without reflective surfaces. And me. Scared shitless. Full of self-doubt and guilt. Not exactly the Justice League.”
Dr. Ishmael Stone is a detective, a monster hunter, and a philosopher. His team comprised of his half-ghost/half-witch daughter Amara Stone, master of mystic weapons Wilbur Branch, mysterious monster detector Blind Jack, and smooth-talking mentalist Martin Priest.
Having rid the mining town of the evil the gang are called to a former asylum which now houses luxury apartments. One such apartment is suffering strange events which have led the occupant to call in their help.
A more rounded issue with a self contained story. It gives some hints to the wider story arc but doesn't give much away and leaves the reader guessing. 4 stars
Arcana comics freebie. Suitable for teens and adults. Good color artwork. It is a mistake to use cursive writing now that American schools have stopped teaching it. Soon half the country will be using block printing. The philosophers take on a haunted basement. Told from a different perspective.
