Arun is a bestselling author, and the heartthrob of thousands of readers. While on a book promotion tour, he is injured and agrees to call a masseuse. Little did he know that the masseuse would turn out to be someone with a secret!
Arun sees a story in her, and in digging deeper, is amazed to discover her strength of character. Even though Lalita is a young survivor of human trafficking, she has unmatched determination.
A single encounter with her makes Arun take decisions that he had never even thought of. He is willing to risk everything for her, his own life too. But the more he tries to help her, the deeper he drowns in the swamp. Will two broken people be able to heal each other? Will society ever accept a girl from the forbidden alleys of the city?
The Girl in the Red Lipstick is a charming story of friendship, life and finding love where we least expect to.
Ajay K Pandey is currently working with Cognizant, Pune. He grew up aspiring to be a teacher, but destiny landed him in the IT field. Travelling, trekking and reading novels take much of his leisure time. Travelling and meeting new people has taught him about different cultures and people, and makes him wonder how despite all the differences, there is a bond that unites them. Trekking taught him to deal with challenges like a sport. Reading is perhaps what makes him feel alive. Apart from writing, he wants to follow his role model Mother Teresa and make some contribution to the society. His second book is slated to hit the stands early next year. His debut work, You are the Best Wife is based on his life events and lessons.
Arun, a bestselling author of love stories. Things were going pretty smooth for him until he injured his neck in a promotion tour and called a masseuse. Little did he know that his life is going take a complete different turn and will end up in the forbidden alleys of the city as he dug deeper into the secret trodden swamps of society.
The title gave me little inkling of the story and I absolutely love the theme of this book. The story follows a best seller author reaching Kolkata for his new book promotion but accidentally he injures his neck in the venue and agrees to call a masseuse. And soon he comes across a beautiful lady, Lalita. This book is a blend of fiction and reality as author has added his real life experience of a meeting with a strange girl in Park Street, Kolkata.
The pace is moderate with smooth flow between the plots. This book has multiple POVs. Though most of the book is narrated from Arun's perspective, the significant perspective is of Lalita's and Kajal's. The idea of telling both of these women's stories from their 'Point Of View' is commendable.
Character development is good but I expected more, I find Arun's POV rather boring and self-centred. I found some really deep and meaningful lines in this book and the emotions put into this book is really touchy. Overall it was a good experience reading this book. I would recommend this to beginner readers.
The Girl In The Red Lipstick Author: Ajay K Pandey
The young lady in the red lipstick is a perfectly composed book by Ajay K Pandey. The book snared me to it till I got done with understanding it. I m absolutely confused right currently to portray this book. From the primary line to the last every alcove and corner have sentiments, feelings, and agony.
The story starts with the writer going to Kolkata for his book dispatch and ended up gathering with a little mishap and he accidentally enlists a back rub young lady, who turned out to be a call young lady. What occurred next in their life, what might be said about his own life, his better half, did she acknowledge her, how society treats women who need to leave prostitution and have a good existence
Lalita the hero of the story a whore, no a woman who has endured a great deal throughout everyday life, is such a motivation and solid person. Her biography has a significant directive for some, ladies out there who are hoping to have a superior life in the public eye. Her battle, penance, torment, and treachery are something that nobody needs to look at in their fantasies. Yet, the manner in which she is forming her life is praiseworthy.
The most main thing from the book is the last part where Kajol and Lalita are at the workplace filling structures and the unexpected component, and the manner in which Arun Kumar handles the entire circumstance between his family and Lalita. It just took my heart, I was in tears of satisfaction and was feeling so pleased with the manner in which everything settled toward the end.
The book starts with Arun, a popular author on his way to his book event. With some mishaps and embarrassment, he's hurt physically which prompts him to look for a masseuse. Much to his surprise, he finds himself intrigued by this girl in the red lipstick. He implores her to tell him her story of pain, destruction and strength. And there's an instant connection. So strong, he's willing to go to any lengths for this girl and her happiness.
When I started this book I was excited as the author mentioned that many bits of this story are inspired by a real-life incident he has had. As I continued reading, I realised what a brave job the author has done in bringing the stories of thousands of women trafficked and sold into prostitution against their will and yet the people acknowledged them as the shameless ones.
“Always call a prostitute a lady; you've no idea what she's been through.”
This is a story of realisation and love, of breaking the stigma and revival of relationships, of self-awareness and kindness. The writing of the book is simple yet capturing. It leaves you wanting more and to follow the characters' lives as it goes. Filled with drama and cliffhangers, the book has everything you want in a page-turner.
The end, however, felt a little out of the blue and felt awkward to me. Aside from this, The Girl in the Red Lipstick is highly recommended!
Bestselling author Arun Kumar injures his back at a college where he went to deliver a guest lecture. He decides to take a massage to alleviate the pain and the masseuse turns out to be Lalita, the girl in the red Lipstick. Her sad past and tragic story of how she became a victim of human trafficking and a prostitute, shakes Arun's soul and he decides to rescue her.
Will Arun really be able to help Lalita and give her a new life??
When I read first few pages and Lalita came into scene, it reminded me of the movie pretty woman but the similarities ended with Lalita being a prostitute and Arun Kumar being a nice man. He is not a billionaire and it's not really a love story of Arun and Lalita.
Gradual introduction of more characters like Arun's friend and his ex - wife kept the story going and made it interesting. All the characters are nicely penned down and you can see their side of story as the book has multiple POV.
There is a lot of emotional conflict and confusion especially when it comes to Arun Kumar, and to be honest till the end I couldn’t properly understand his feelings. The writing style is engaging and although there are no major twists and turns in this book, I found it interesting to read. The ending was also nice and I couldn't have predicted it even if I tried.
So overall this book was a good read for me and I would love to read more books by the author.
“Always call a prostitute a lady; you have no idea what she has been through.” I read this statement on the page before the first chapter of the book- The Girl In The Red Lipstick by Ajay K Pandey. I realized this wasn’t going to be some random story.
The book begins with one of the protagonists- Arun Kumar, arriving at Kolkata for his book launch, where his fellow readers enquire that why hasn’t he written about a prostitute till now? This question makes him go numb twice, and he keeps on wondering the sign behind it. In one of his events, he falls down from stairs and has to request a massage at his hotel. Then he meets Lalita, who wasn’t a masseuse but a prostitute. Arun is too naive to apprehend this, but when he does, he craves her story. Did he really want to know her story, or was he ruminating about his next book?
Lalita is too young, and despite everything, she hasn’t lost her dignity as she never accepts sympathy. She has reasons to believe in a better future but will this ever come true? She is hesitant of dictating her story but when she does, it takes a toll on the readers.
Arun plots her redemption, but is he too naive to rationalise the consequences? Does she want to leave this business? Will she trust a man again? What if her pimp files a false FIR? Even if he succeeds in moving her out of Kolkata, will she not return to this job? Data says that most of the sex workers, after leaving the rehabilitation centre, return to the same work profile. Also, many rehabilitation centres’ are the centre of such activities. Such questions fascinate the readers' curiosity.
This book starts a bit slow with Arun, but once Lalita enters the scene, the pace shifts. The story is intriguing, and the concept is plausible. The author has used the first person narration for this story. His writing style is easy to comprehend, and the setting is precise. The author discusses the details of her journey precisely. Suspense building is slow but introduced at the right time. Even the twist in the climax is intriguing. Overall, the story keeps you engrossed with the curiosity to know more.
Sir always writes inspiring and hopeful stories and this one gives a new shine in his writing, his story always touches my heart and make me wonder how good he writes.
The beginning could have been better but the ending is mesmerizing and soothing.
This book strongly urges that Always Call a prostitute a lady; you have no idea what she has been through.' with this story author has tried to give them the respect they deserve and put out some nasty realities of society.
Strongly recommend it to every reader who comes across this book, I hope this book will give you broad thinking.
Some thoughts which I underlined in a book.
- Sympathy makes us realize that we are human. Love makes us better humans. - Live a life of self-respect. When you respect yourself, others will respect you. - Trust and stupidity have no boundaries.
Glimpse
Arun Kumar has authored many books based on the life of women's and In one seminar he was asked a question that why he doesn't write on the life of a prostitute but he didn't say anything about that, on that day this question was asked by many people.
He came across a girl who came for giving him a massage for his back pain but she behaved very inappropriately and he didn't raise any questions but next day as a surprising event when he woke up and sees her ask what she is doing her and then came to know about that she is a prostitute and asked her why she enters in this field, she didn't say anything and he extended some cash in his hand to her but she didn't take that either and said I don't need your sympathy.
After knowing her story he wanted to do something for her and asked her would she like to get of this, she said yes but how will she get away with this life, Arun had an idea that he will take her with him and there he would try to give her a new life with help of police.
Will he be able to help her or something else will happen? For to know more go grab the book and start reading.
How can this book slip out of my eyes seeing Ajay K Pandey's magnetised title, " The Girl In The Red Lipstick" ? I have to definitely go for it. Well this book is not about Red lipstick but the so called "Red-Light District" that unfortunately exists in our society. The most inhuman practice: trafficking of girl child and women in the prostitution and sex-oriented businesses etc. It's so commendable job that someone brought very sensitive topic to think on it once again. This contemporary fiction presents the reality of our society which we often ignore by our blindfolded eyes.
The story is about Arun and Lalita. Their life has more number of difference that sky and earth. Arun is a best selling author while Lalita's fate is miserable as she was forced into the prostitution. I like the way how author connect entirely different characters in his story. Being a girl who faced so many struggles and has a tremendously dark past, her vision for life is so bright. She is a strong girl. I found her personality and her approach to life quite inspiring. They met each other when Arun was promoting his new book in a new city and his eyes catched attention on Lalita.
The story is about the characters background and how Arun help Lalita in her journey of getting out her past but still loving her at every moment. This book presents a whole ocean of emotions. How a girl who was forced into such a job? How she overcomes that? How Arun helps her? Will they'll stay together? It has a whole lot of questions ...well I'm not going to give any answer, you surely find out yourself ✨ but let me tell it has an unexpected ending also the most beautiful.
I love the book, after reading it I was gone into the thoughts of situation women goes through when they are forced in such conditions. How traumatized it is just to think. Saying someone prostitute but we have no idea what they go through every seconds of their life. It was heart touching, mind boggling and body thrilling story❤️ Such a wonderful masterpiece. I totally loved the book it has certainly many things to learn from. Just loved it✨✨
Today, we are living in the millennial age of Social Media. There are more than ninety percent of us, whose day starts by looking at the phone and also probably ends the same way. However, the question remains on whether we are actually satisfied with what we have or are we living a Social Media lie.
In a similar dilemma is our main protagonist, Arun from the book ‘The Girl in the Red Lipstick’ by Ajay K Pandey. From the outside, he seems to have it all: Bestselling Book, Loyal Followers, Fame, etc. But on the inside, there is something that he feels is amiss.
On the other hand, we have Lalita, a woman with great resilience and pliability. Life has not at all been easy for her, and many in her position would have just given up, but here she was, still fighting and still struggling.
When Arun and Lalita meet, there is something about her that makes him want to reach out to her and get to know more about her. And in this journey, he not only finds himself and what he felt was missing piece, but also gives strength to her as well.
The book was not only a fictional story about two individuals, but also gave a great message about how we should not label anyone just because of what they do, because on the outside we may only see what is being portrayed to us, however we would never have an ounce of idea of what that person has actually been through. A little niceness and compassion towards someone has never hurt anyone. Hence, I am going to give this book FIVE RED STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Girl in the Red Lipstick is a thrilling work of fiction penned by the talented Ajak K. Pandey. Dextrously woven and somewhat addictive, this book sets an entirely different standard for fiction books. A guy sympathizes with a prostitute and takes it upon himself to help her. The basic foundation of the story is not so unique but, it still manages to keep the readers engaged.
The simple narration and the vivid imagery make this book stand out in the sea of other similar books. The fact that the book plot was something I didn't really see coming deserves some brownie points. The characters of Arun and Kajal were nothing extraordinaire. They held semblance to reality and didn't really do something out of the box.
However, I did feel that the character of Lalitha was underdeveloped. I would've liked to see her address more of her problems in a humanistic way - delicately and like something that troubles her. On the contrary, they were often just stated for the heck of being put out there. Almost like it's something that isn't supposed to bother her.
I expected more drama to ensue when Kajal entered the scene but, no such thing happened. I am still not sure how I feel about it. Whether I liked it or whether it was a little uncharacteristic. I did like the climax and how the story built up to reach it. But, I still feel that as far as potential goes, Ajay Pandey has a lot, and, somehow, this book didn't reflect that potential as well as I had expected.
Overall, it was a decent read but not too extraordinary. However, if you are looking for a quick read, this book should be your go-to.
Book: The Girl in the Red Lipstick Author: Ajay K. Pandey Pages: 216 Genre: Contemporary Romance / Ethnic religion Rating: 3.6/5
The girl in the red lipstick is a story by Ajay K. Pandey revolving around the main protagonist Arun Kumar. Arun is a best-selling author and is on his new book tour and for this, he visited Kolkata. There because of an accident that happened with him, he meets Lalita, who is in the swamp of prostitution work. From there the story progresses and layers of the story reveal.
The book started with the line "Always call a prostitute a lady; you have no idea what she has been through" and ended with the same and all the story revolves around this line. The line may seem quite simple at first, but it is not. There is so much depth in this line and so many thoughts to explore within.
I love how the author has represented social media. The selection of words we do for captions, the need to show something more vibrant and positive and happy even though the things are ordinary, this was something which we all can relate to. As truly said, social media is not true, it shows pseudo happiness, and the author showed it well. Like it is not something about which the author has written differently or showed it in the spotlight but the little actions of the protagonist say it all.
Also, there was a line in the book, "Somebody's pain was someone else's reason for celebration." Even though we all have heard about it and know it but still these lines gives me waves of emotions. I remember a line from class 10th, Economics textbook which said, "Two things are quite clear: one, different persons can have different developmental goals and two, what may be developed for one may not be developed for the other. It may even be destructive for the other." And with this, my whole memories from the past came in front of me.
At some sections in the story, the story is represented with different points of view and I love reading a story with different points of view but at some moments, it felt like multiple points of view is shown only so that the story progresses, it felt like the story is going ahead normally and there is not so much with the point of view that is shown. Also, the end was quite unpredictable and worthy but according to me, if it have taken place a little bit differently, it could have been better. Also, the character of Rohit, who is Arun's friend, and Kajal, Arun's wife could be explored more, and insights into their thoughts and life if given a bit more, could have been amazing.
The speciality of the author is his simplicity in writing for sure and it reflects in the story and actions of the protagonist.
I will recommend this book to the ones who are looking forward to reading something about this topic as this is the topic which needs to be more talked about and discussed.
"The Girl in the Red Lipstick" by Ajay K. Singh revolves around a budding author, Arun Kumar and a prostitute, Lalita. Arun Kumar has gone to Kolkata for his book launch, where he fell from stairs and hurt his back, which leads him towards a spa girl, Lalita. Later he discovers that Lalita is a prostitute and came to know about her story that how she wanted to study further but circumstances led her towards this prostitution. Lalita has a desire to leave this prostitution and lead a normal life, but circumstances always hold her back. Arun decided to help her, so he made a plan to rescue her from this prostitution.
Kudos to the author! For writing about such a sensitive topic, human trafficking and showing the harsh truth of the prostitutes that how they are treated in the society and how there is no way back to normal once they got involved in prostitution, somewhere deep down it's the society which never allows them to lead a normal life. Talking about the language and narration style, then language is lucid and narration style is engaging. I completed the story in one go as the story is intriguing and entertaining. The story will keep you hooked throughout the book till the last page. My eyes were moist after reading the last page and the ending touched my heart. I would suggest this book to beginners as the language is pretty easy.
"Always call a prostitute a lady, you have no idea what she has been through"
How Arun is going to rescue Lalita? Even if he is successful in doing this whether society would let Lalita lead a normal life? Whether family members of Arun are going to help him throughout this? To know the answer to these questions, you need to read the book first.
Arun who is a bestselling author is on a book tour in Kolkata and falls down, getting injured. Unable to bear the pain he agrees to call a masseuse. The girl in red lipstick arrives, who turns out to be a prostitute. Arun is intrigued by her profession and wants to know everything about her story. He wants to know every detail about her past, how she was forced into this profession and wants to genuinely help her, while Lalita does not even want somebody's sympathy. That single encounter perpetuates Arun to take decisions he never thought he could be making, and he's willing to risk his everything to help the girl.
What happens next and how everything affects these two is a great story to read. A story with a different ending, that I could not comprehend as the rest of the book didn't feel like it could end like this; it was beautiful though. However at times the story appeared rather unrealistic. I noticed that the author has used the names of his fellow authors with slight but noticeable changes which created a sense of the protagonist being the author himself. The book is definitely interesting and a new topic for me, the writing is absolutely smooth as expected and I simply couldn't put the book down unfinished. A charming story depicting the realities of life and finding love(not the romantic kind, mind you) at the most unexpected places! Overall a good read as expected from the author.
• I mean, I hadn't felt the need to sit down and read a book in forever. But this one made me want to.
•Somewhere along the line it was absolute "eMOtiONAL dAMagE" but I'm soooooo here for it.
•The language was pretty and simple.
•You won't believe how much of *that* was relatable as Arun, our main guy is an author. So you can expect a vivid and accurate description of an author's life.
•Mentions of trafficking and SA. I would recommend looking triggers up.
•This book had me angry, weeping and chortling at the same time. I don't know but, Ajay, how do you do this?
•Lalita is a girl in the Red Light area of Kolkata, one of the MANY victims of human trafficking. She's very real and she's just like any brave woman out there succumbing to internalised misogyny.
•Society treats every woman badly, Lalita is no different. Except she has it worse. But she has dreams and is the strongest female MC in a contemporary book.
•The way that none of the characters are inherently evil and that we don't have any other villains other than society is what did it for me. (Yes, even Kajal)
•WHAT WAS THE ENDING AND HOW DARE YOU AJAY. (no I'm just very happy about the ending but I SWEAR TO GOD I DID NOT SEE *THAT* COMING.)
•I just wished most people were like Arun then the world will be a better place.
PS: Chetan Bhagat can learn a thing or two about representation from Ajay K. Pandey. Just sayin
The story revolves around Arun, the author and Lalita who works in a massage parlour. In the book launch event Arun got injured and to cure that his hotel manager called Lalita for massage. But to surprise Lalita doesn't look like a massager and instantly Arun felt sorry for her. He wanted to help her after knowing her past but he doesn't have that kind of money to take care for her but he tried his best to save from the nasty world. But finally he rescued her but everyone has a story and he also has a mystery with in himself. Will the society accept Lalita? Is Arun ever accept as his own? What will Arun do after everyone knows the true identity of Lalita?
The concept is really unique and it's a different read. I am so glad that i got to read this book. But in every lage A feeling came across that why there is sympathy for Lalita? Who are we to give her the sympathy? There are some who are dragged to the situation but there are some who wanted to do this like Rani. Then why we need to sympathise a prostitute. Work is worship. Any type of work it may be. Instead of sympathy when we start respect them as they are and accept them as a normal people that would be a great contribution from us to them. Sympathizi them is not the solution. Respect them and accept them as a human being that's all they want.
Title The Girl in the Red lipstick By Ajay k Pandey
There's a probably nothing much i "learned" in the introspective sense but this is a novel like a novel ougth to be. This is an epic film on paper. letting the reader know about ...
Review This book does not aim to discuss the symbolics of prostitution but rather than the material realities of sex workers, looking always through a leftist lens. It's both radical and lucid. which is a difficult combination (and one rarely achieved).
The plot is so much to say, Arun Lalita and Kajal a limelight of this story.
Kajal I liked the character of Kajal the most, I felt her close, her feeling was very important for her life to be practical.
Arun This book is also told that, The effort of the writers has been told that life cannot be lived Impractically it should be more balanced in both directions
Lalita It is not necessary that what appears to be the same. Whether she is a prostitute or a common girl, she passes her life for her love and her dreams.
The language and swept up with all the action - it was an absolute pleasure to experience such a well told story !
One-Line Theme: ' Success does not come alone, it brings along confidence, security, a sense of well-being and the ability to contribute at a greater level. ' ( The Girl In The Red Lipstick - Ajay K Pandey)
This title and the cover page of the book is simply matched with the story. While reading the back cover of the book before singing into the fiction I thought this story will give revolution to the Red society. It did the same. But the way of presenting the intention of the author on the call girl is tremendously great and unpredictable.
This is the story of a bestselling author Arun, who has the intention to save a call girl from the black list society Red. Even though there is no emotional bond. Both of them tries to save each other from their harmful life. Arun traces her profound character. Then decides to save her. Did he save her from that drastic society? What are the dilemmas they have stood up against in this revolution? Would society accept this?
If you want to know what happened seriously in the life of Arun and Lalitha grab this book.
Language is rational. The story is moving in a realistic phase. Character is strongly built. The plot is intriguing.
"The Girl In The Red Lipstick" is an excellent book written by author Ajay K Pandey. The protagonist of the story is a prostitute named Lalita, who has witnessed many betrayals in her life so far and despite all these disappointments, struggles, sacrifices and hardships, she wants to expect some hope in her life.
Will bestselling author Arun kumar be able to bring any hope in life? What will happen next? Turns and Twist in the story would always keep you interested. ••• I like how the author draws all the characters and gives them life. The morals in the story are eye-opening.
I love this story. I would appreciate the work of the author. He has written it in a very beautiful manner. The narration is smooth and the way characters are defined, you gonna remember them for long enough.
All I can say is irrespective of your genre you must read this beauty. And I am sure you'll love it. . •••
The story is such a beautiful one that it melted my heart. Such a different and sensitive topic raised and discussed in the book which I highly respect. Also a beautiful message ‘ALWAYS CALL A PROSTITUTE A LADY’ is so legit.
Book synopsis~ 💄Arun is a best selling author who visits Kolkata for his book launch, where he gets injured and agrees to call a masseuse. Further he gets to know that the masseuse, Lalita, has been a victim of woman trafficking and is still stuck in there. He is now willing to help her escape from this cruel situation. 💄What Arun did is laudable, only few have the guts to do something like this, the way he managed things between his personal life and social life is noteworthy and the change of events at the end is so fulfilling and satisfying.
The book deals with the sensitive subject of human trafficking. While I appreciated the story, I felt the premise was incomplete and fell short of my expectations. I had the sensation that I was watching an insane and enigmatic Bollywood film while reading. There were numerous ways in which this book may have been improved. It appears that the author abandoned the core essence of the work in order to make a happy ending.
Didn't know what to expect when I started reading the book, but as the storyline continued, I was intrigued to know more about Arun and Lalitha's journey and the ultimate help he provided to her after learning more about her life story. it was quite saddening to read the part where Lalitha described how she entered the industry. Overall I enjoyed the book and it acted as a reminder everyone has a story and we shouldn't be quick to judge how they got where they are.
✒The bestselling author Arun goes to his new book promotion tour at Kolkata and there he meets Lalita. Lalita has a life that is shattered and lost faith with betrayal. She is sold off in Prostitution and that made her life ugly bitter. She has no future to dream of.
✒Will you help a sex worker? Who would help and accept them? But, Arun tries to help and it felt like a challenge. He helped Lalita, gave her hope and turned her life good.
✒The vivid portrayal of those women are shown with the background and it helps understand their unfortunate life.
✒The author has conveyed the message clearly "Always call a Prostitute a lady, you have no idea what she has been through".
✒The climax of the story is definitely a good one. I liked it.
A perfect mixture of emotions and facts! The author has splendidly written the concept of how prostitutes are treated and what they face and how they are shaped into the mould people try to piece them in. What I love is the fact that he's found the perfect balance between going overboard with information and showing us the reality of life! Life is hard, yes, but I bet we wouldn't survive in their shoes!
Arun Kumar is a well known author who's finally found out his dream but when a question is repeatedly asked in every Q&A session he becomes agitated! An accident made them cross paths only for him to find out she's not who he thought she was! A last minute decision to get her out of her miserable life is turning out to be a bad idea! What if people find out his new secretary was a prostitute? Now that his wife knows that Lalita is living with him and with his wife's detective skills she now knows the truth of Lalitha's past will she blow the horn and ruin him forever just to take revenge? Will he risk it all to help her find a new beginning, is it all worth it?
A book that's become so close to my heart because of the level of the depth of feelings and emotions the author has captured! And the way he shows us the ugly side of reality and the harsh truths of the world all in a way that a person can understand Lalitha is beyond awesome! This book is something that I didn't expect and every reader craves for that very newness right so I'm looking forward to read more from the author!!
Always call a prostitute a lady, you have no Idea what she is been through " -The Girl In The Red Lipstick
Author: Ajay K Pandey
Have you ever thought, what makes a prostitute, a prostitute? You, me, the society? What makes us hate them ? Just because they earn money using their bodies? But , ain't we all do the same in a way or the other?
Arun Kumar, bestselling author came across a girl named Lalita. Little did he know that his life was going to be turned 360 degrees onwards. Arun sees a story in her , and what he found left him blown away. I have heard a lot about Ajay K Pandey's books so generally while picking this up I was excited. But alas! All together, this book has been a 'disillusioned' read for me.
Talking about the plot, I like the book and how it started from Arun's Kolkata trip for a book launch and falling down in front of a college to Lalita's entry as a masseuse to this book and his life. But hell got down after a few pages. The dramatic and over the top decisions taken by Arun felt unrealistic. The loss of depth of the characters is depicted throughout the story. I have failed to find any characteristic developments of the characters like Kajal and Vishal. Adding up to that Arun's complicated life made the book more labyrinthe.
Arun and Lalita's problematic relationship/ attachment made my skin cringed while reading. Author after romanticizing their attachment for most of the part of the book, has ended up creating a parental bond between them. And if this is not all, when asked Arun doesn't hesitate to say that he is attracted to Lalita and loves her but doesn't want to marry her because He Is Already Married.
This book has not been proofread properly. There are also several plot holes. At some point I even wondered what is the purpose of the book?
Storytelling is likable but the storyline is half-baked and falls short to reach out to my expectations. It seems I am watching another illogical, delusive bollywood movie. Just to make a hopeful story Pandey destroyed the essence.
In spite of everything, I really appreciate how Lalita's life unfolded in front of the readers. The rawness of Lalita's narration left me overwhelmed. The nasty perception of society's ideology towards sex workers made me shuddered. Lalita's plea of just to be someone's someone made my heart cry. Lalita's individuality is the only thing I love about this book.
Spoiler alert... Arun kumar has God complex. Not surprising, most authors are the masters of their stories and can do whatever they want with the characters they created. But the problem is sometimes, the line between written words and reality are blurred and the author starts to think he can control real people as well. Arun Kumar is simultaneously a clueless person. He thinks after doing things. Wise people would say you should do the other way round. Anyways, Arun has written ten books. I guess he's not that popular because many readers mistake him for someone else also there's a heap of his books lying unsold in the airport bookstore. I hope he is an unsuccessful or not so successful author, that would explain his crunch for cash...... Else I felt he's a cheap bugger.... But be that as it may, the real issue I had with Arun was that he has this huge God complex. So when he met our damsel in distress he thought he must take control of her life and save her from the rut. But the fact is he had no plan how to go bout it. He thought he'll plan along the way. Lalitha is a sex worker (I guess that's the term people use these days and not prostitute). She was a victim of trafficking. Her's was the only character that had a little bit of depth.... Everyone else were so shallow that if let out of this book they'll float away... Lalitha committed two primal sins.... born poor and born a girl.... Obviously she shouldn't have any say on her own life. Once she was directed to sleep with a random guy, she had to do it. Later she was directed to start calling a guy "dad" and she did it. I don't blame her. Life has conditioned her to accept whatever comes her way. Her only goal is to survive. It's a different matter that she tried to seduce this new 'dad' of hers and howeled at him in frustration when it was made clear to her that he has no intention to marry him. So in her mind Arun kumar transitioned from saviour to potential husband to father and finally a Messiah..... Good Job Mr. Author...
Okey enough for the wafer thin plotline. My opinion on this 1. Language is basic. Easy to read 2. Characters are shallow except Lalitha who I liked a bit. Though I'm a bit confused how can you suddenly become a daughter after seducing the same man who you're calling dad now 3. "Call all prostitutes a lady". No I won't. I'll call someone a lady if i feel it from the inside. Every woman has to go through a lot in every field. Then we should call every girl a lady. I have no issues with that. But whatever one says, it should come from inside and not mere lip service. 4. It's really lazy writing. The plot twist was convenient and cringeworthy at the same time.
I'll give it 2/5 stars solely because I liked Lalitha and the language was easy.
I don't think I'll pick up another book by Mr. Pandey anytime soon.
Book#11 of #2022 Name: A girl in the red lipstick Author: Ajay K Pandey Genre: Fiction Number of Pages: 199 My Rating: 5/5 Recommended for: People who love to read emotional stories
My Review: The story starts with the famous author Arun attending an event in Kolkata for his latest book. After the event, he slips on the stairs, injuring himself badly. One of the staff members at the hotel sends him a girl for a massage to relieve him of the stress. As it turns out, the girl is an escort, and instead of availing the so-called services, Arun starts talking to the girl with the bright red lipstick. The girl reveals her past and how she turned up in a brothel. Arun starts sympathizing with her and plans to rescue her. The girl in the red lipstick who calls herself Lalita is excited and nervous about leaving this notorious world behind and starting a new life with Arun. However, it turns out that Arun never wanted to marry her because he is already married. He only wanted to rescue her and provide her with a better life. The world turns upside down for Lalita when she knows about Arun and his past. In comes Kajal, Arun's ex-wife, and helps Arun admit Lalita to a rehabilitation center. The story until now might seem very common and usual, but it is not. The way the author had described the time Lalita and Arun spent with each other before she went into the rehabilitation center is nothing but deep. Lalita's emotions from every day looking at Arun and hoping he would accept her as a lover are very beautifully described. Arun's care for Lalita will let you think that he also has romantic feelings for her but could not express them because he was married. But then comes the suspense and the real intentions of Arun, which are mind-blowing and a slap to society. I could have never guessed about Arun's real purpose. But, believe me, once you read the last chapter of this story, you will feel a warm sensation in your belly, making you emotional and believing that humanity still exists. The lovely ending to the story is the main reason you should pick up this book. It is worth reading!
An appropriate applaud to a modern classy book where the author understands that the effective pros have got a function beyond acting as an engine for the plot. Utterly engrossing and a glittering masterwork and an unmitigated joy to read this book till the end. A glorious gift to the world because it sparkles with hope because it sings to provoke a new thought inside all of us because it is witty because in so many topics it chooses to showcase such a girl from the margin of our society.
This has a beautiful pace in its narrative style. Lalita appeared in almost 2nd or third chapter of the book, till then it was going funny and the author introduced us to Lalita very cleverly. Anybody can guess the story by its name, same with me. The story took place in Kolkata's five-star hotel, Lalita meet with Arun in a hotel as her regular calls, she went to meet with him just like any other customer but she didn't know this meeting will change her life even Arun also didn't know one day he could do such thing that can change a life. Arun is an average, middle-class romantic author, 15 years elder than Lalita; with lots of courage, Arun took her with him and pull her from the muddy life of the brothel. It's true until the time has come we don't realize how courageous we could be, you feel your strength in the experience of such an urgent time. Until then Lalita was living outside the margin now the struggle begin how to settle her inside the margin, inside the society. In the end author, Anil took a jaw-dropping decision, oh what you are thinking it's not like that. The decision is new, thought-provoking and with his writing style author Ajay nailed it.
I must say that reading this fight full journey made me realize one thing for sure that how selfish we are in our secure life, most of us pretend that we do social work, we are helping but it's not true, we don't even willing to give them the minimum respect.
The author Ajay k Panday seems to believe in his work and he did a lot of research before picking his pen. All the right information that helps this story to go on is really commendable. The information given here is really helpful. The narrative from varied characters' points of view stepping in and out sounds really cool, it obviously gives the scope and breadth of the novel an assortment of characters that come and go and strike friendship with the reader. There's a little but important scene with Anil and his father in his adolescence, that scene is particularly my favorite, it shows the perfect maturity and empathetic side of the author, kudos to the author. I will recommend this book to every reader I believe you will love it. Give it a try.
An other of the Ajay Pandey’s story. This is about Arun, who is a successful author, with not so successful financial background. He and his wife are not together, because he choose being an author over working for salary. Well nobodies mistake, there are always conflicts and no one is completely correct in such matters. Our author is out to Calcutta for a book launch where he happens to have a severe back pain, that is when he meets Lalita, a lady (I am going with the author on this note, “Always call a prostitute as ‘Lady’, we never know what the person has gone through in life.). First he does not understand but when he does realize what was the mistake he did, he tries to escape however something in her catches his attention. He calls for her the next day, he talks to her to understand her story and what really happened to her. A usual betraying story which ends her in this situation, a sick mom and a chance taking man, who lures the girl to show her a good job and money to take care of herself and her mom. It ends up in a brothel, that is exactly what happens with Lalitha. For some reasons Arun finds interest in her and wants to write a story on her. He learns that she really has a good heart and characteristic in her and the situations have forced her to be the way she is, rude, drunk and not caring. He plans an escape with her, back in Mumbai he introduces her as her manager. Arun’s wife learns about his new manager and she gets upset. They both still share love but ego’s are always the big barriers to cross. How Arun saves Lalitha and what he does for her is the flow of the story. Showing life to a woman who has been illtreated by society is not easy, so is it difficult for the girl to trust anyone else. This story is touching however I think the certainly is some gap in the way the relationship between Arun and Lalitha is set over all. Having said so, this is a very casual read, one might just read this to lighten up with nothing much to carry on head. Expect for one thing, respect all human, do not illtreat or disrespect someone for their profession, there could always be more than what we think but the work they do. Profession is always passion; it can be that a person’s character and passion are different to the profession they are into. So, understand the person and then we really know that he/she is not the perception from the job they do.
Book : The Girl In The Red Lipstick Author : Ajay K Pandey
"Always call a prostitute a lady, you have no Idea what she is been through "
There's something about Ajay K Pandey's Novel, you just can't keep calm unless you finish his books. Is it because of beautiful writing style, or proper handling of emotions, Or Existing characters or something else, I don't know. But I know that it sure is. His every other book appears to be dealing with a Social issue and this one too. I liked the way the author handled a sensitive issue like "prostitution" in such a dignified manner without any drama. I loved the message that this book conveys about "love" and the different forms that exist.
I used the holiday to read the book. Post lunch I picked up the book thinking I would finish one Chapter and go off to sleep! The first Chapter took me off my feet and I landed back only when I completed all of them by evening. It was a 6-hour roller-coaster ride of emotions. The characters are still ringing in my head!
The story revolves around Arun and Lalitha. Arun is a well known writer and has published many works. During one of his travels he met Lalitha and his life changed. Lalita, a strong and resilient woman, is a survivor of human trafficking. Even though he has had a difficult life, his outlook on life forces Arun to make a tough decision that will change both of their lives. Do grab your copies and go through the journey of beautiful adventure.
Oh, what a book! If you just buy one book this year, make it this! It appears as if someone is sitting next to you and narrating these stories. While reading certain scenes in the story I actually felt like it was happening in reality! That is how the book deeply engages the readers. Each of the characters are so strong that they bind you with their personalities, and force you to remember them long after you have read the stories. The Author has described each scene in the book in detail and with accuracy. He has used interesting words that portray the scene brilliantly. The Author has described everything perfectly. The author has a good storytelling style. However, it's the ending that was the most satisfying. The language of the book is brilliant. Leave all specification just grab the book & give it a try.
‘The Girl in the Red Lipstick’ by Ajay K Pandey is a different & unique attempt to bring out one of the most undiscussed topics in the society i.e. prostitution. Arun Kumar is a bestselling author of love stories quite popular and loved by his readers. While on a book tour in Kolkata to promote his new release Arun falls down and injures himself. Unable to bear the pain, he calls a masseuse. Lalita, the lady who attends Arun is the girl in red lipstick. On further interaction with Lalita, Arun get to know the dark world of prostitution and is thoroughly moved by how the young lady has braved through every ordeal. Perhaps, these conversations with Lalita made Arun take an unplanned decision of rescuing her from the dark world even when he was unsure of its outcomes. ‘The Girl in the Red Lipstick’ is an emotional heartwarming story of bravery, empathy and humanity. This book is an interlock between mending personal relations and tackling new relationships and attachments. In this book, Arun was alone before he met Lalita and in between being a bestselling author he also wanted to be a family man. Maybe that void turned into empathy towards Lalita. On the other hand, Lalita being a sufferer of prostitution only knew the mantra that money is a respect and that all men are evil until she met Arun. Being with Arun gave her hopes to start a new life- become independent and lead a life like a respectable woman. But amidst everything, there was a spark of love that made the individuals complicated. I appreciate how the author attempted to write about trafficking and prostitution tangling it with human emotions but at some points the book really took an unrealistic turn that was kind of absurd for me to even imagine. I also felt amidst fictionalizing things and storytelling the book talked about the sex worker’s world in small snippets and was losing its agenda. Towards the end, I felt the storytelling was beyond fiction. Though the story is fast and descriptive I could make things amiss. Writing about harsh realities can be triggering and challenging for a writer but here the author has penned his level best to draw a line between storytelling and reality checks. Beginners could also read.
