Quinn has always feared the Dryad forest—now more than ever.
With severe warnings from the faerie queen and another trial fast approaching, Quinn thinks she’s prepared to trek through the dark forest, especially with Alys leading the way. But when the heirs face unexpected dangers before the Trial of Life even begins, they learn there’s much more to fear than the competition itself, and that they might need each other to survive it.
Soon, Quinn is straddling the blurred lines between competitors and allies as she decodes the ancient tome with Hickory, trains Vale, learns about Alys’ power, and figures out her complicated relationship with Aeron. But Quinn has been betrayed before. As the fourth menacing trial gets underway, she must decide if she can learn to trust again—or die trying.

Another fantastic installment! While this one took me a bit longer to get through than the last two, by the end I was flying through! LOVE the development of relationships between the core cast and can't wait to see what awaits them in the next trial!
Four installments into the On Wings of Ash and Dust serial and things are heating up in more ways than one in Forest of Blood! Brittany Wang delivers again with lots of action, danger, and interesting character interactions that had my interest peaked more than ever! And the danger starts with a bang and just continues without really letting go throughout the episode, and not just physical danger either. My favorite part of this is the increased character depth and interactions, as we're figuring out more about all five of the competitors as well as some major supporting characters, with nobody left out of the mix. I was surprised and intrigued by several characters, and I adore Quinn as she has to go through a lot and dig through some painful emotions here. Once again, I love the new setting, this time a forest with various settings within it, and hints at the plot that's hiding just underneath the surface and starting to bubble up. While there's not an edge of your seat cliffhanger, there's more than enough to have me itching to read the next episode!
*I received an ERC from the author. All opinions are my own.*
We’ve officially made it to episode four in the On Wings of Ash and Dust series, which means we are more than half way through and gearing up for an epic ending!
In Forest of Blood, we begin with some initial action right off the back, which I absolutely adore, combined with mystery from the queen and some worldbuilding. From this moment on I never felt like there was a full moment at all in this episode.
We got to know a lot more about Alys this time around from her powers to answers about the ‘rumors’ about her and I’m living for all the detail we got!
This trial was the trial of life, which manifested in the exact opposite that you would expect, but I loved how Quinn and two other characters teamed up during the trial. As Alys said they are competitors but not enemies which I think Is a perfect description because I see Quinn slowly starting to see that, but I don’t think all of them would say the same. I think Quinn really showed her strength just not brute strength in this case. Strength can be seen and shown in many ways.
And I love that Alys and Quinn we’re finally able to communicate, just as I expected they were going to find their own special way to do so! And that final bit of action with so much coming to be revealed!! Just epic!! That’s all I can say!!
Britt definitely has us in good hands while remaining on the edge for the majority of the story! I can’t wait to see what happens when we head into the Kobold trial next!!!
We're officially four episodes into this On Wings of Ash and Dust serial and I'm enjoying this series just as much as I did in the beginning - maybe even more so.
I'll start off by saying that this story just gets more twisty as you go and I appreciate that so much. I've always had a thing for sequels because they just compound so much on the original and that does not fail to also be true with this serial. Brittany takes you on such a journey throughout these books and it's been a wild ride so far. She never once drops the ball on a single character. If you're left wondering about anything, it's intentional and you know you're going to get the answers you want eventually. You're safe in her hands.
Watching everything unfold throughout this book has kept me on the edge of my seat. I was never bored with the characters. And yes, even though these books are in Quinn's POV, you see plenty of all of the other characters. They feel like main characters in their own ways and I live for that. They keep the drama and action going and you'll never regret picking this book up as each of their stories gets more light shed on it with every episode.
We're nearing the end of this serial and I can't wait to see where Brittany takes us. Things are heating up so much and I just know even more good stuff is coming! I'm giving this episode a solid 5 out 5 stars and wholeheartedly recommend you pick up this series if you haven't already.
I received an ARC of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
*Spoilers for episodes 1-3 below*
Quinn and the other competitors make their way through the forest in Dryad territory. However, the forest is more dangerous than any of them expected. Facing danger before they even get to the trial, the competitors start to realize they might have to work together...after all, no one wins the crown if they're all dead.
This is my favorite episode yet! Action-packed, intriguing, and addicting, this episode will not let you put it down!
The plot has escalated once again, and the characters realize that they are up against some powerful, dangerous forces. I loved how the competitors interacted with each other in this episode! Brittany has done an excellent job crafting all of their personalities and the way they interact with one another! The world-building continues to impress me more and more with every episode!
Somehow, this episode was simultaneously thrilling, ominous, and enchanting! Brittany's story-telling is so brilliant-- even as the stakes get higher and the dangers get more serious, I continue to fall more in love with her characters and her world! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I highly recommend this serial to fantasy fans and YA fans!
This is my favorite episode yet! I love Alys’s home… I found myself connect to the Dryads and their way of life.
In this episode you learn more about Alys and Hickory and even see a softer side to Vale. You learn that the queen is definitely up to something.
This is the point in every story where if I don’t feel it, I’ll put the book down and not think twice about it, but Brittany has put it together beautifully!
The trial of life is another pretty scary trial and I’m excited to see Quinn drop her guard and you see a glimpse of her heart. I think now I believe she doesn’t want to be on that ship as captain shade because of the title, but because of her people… and she begins to see her competitor as more than just a means to an end.
Aeron and Quinn… I love a good drawn out romance. And Brittany does this so eloquently. You know from book one there is something but not until this episode do you really see Aeron put himself out there and Although she shows hesitation, and for good reason, she opens herself up to him. But I’m still curious if we can really trust him. I’m crossing my fingers in the hopes that we can!
This episode you get loaded with so many sweet treats. I again couldn’t put it down!

I feel as if I've said this before and yet it still holds true! Brittany Wang has outdone herself with this one! Book four of this serial had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last! So many twists and turns! Plot twist after plot twist and never a dull moment! I felt like I was right there every moment with the competitors!! Unexpected shifts in dynamics and amazing heart felt moments mixed in with danger and a wondrous setting will leave you craving more!
Forest of Blood goes right back into the action and drama and never let's go! We dive further into the lore which opens up more questions and makes me want to keep reading (I know I'll get the answers in the end!). With another nail biting trial and even more at stake than before, I'm more obsessed with this story with every twist and turn. Storytelling at its finest!
Forest of Blood delivers on its title with an action-packed and gripping continuation of the trials. I loved how dark certain parts were (and likely will continue to get even darker), and there were several twists from unexpected characters. Plus *spoiler alert* I'm loving how the competitors are actually getting along and supporting each other?! So epiiiic!
Well that was intense! Definitely my favorite episode yet and Alys is officially my fave characters (I mean she already was but 😉). I have to admit I’m really glad it looks like we’re going to get to see the whole competition because So glad that’s not happening. Also my queer rep loving heart is lowkey shipping Alys and Quinn even though I know her and endgame lol.

She does it again! This episode was a really quick read, but it really got the story going in a new way. Some interesting new secrets are revealed, and we learn so much about Alys especially that makes me love her even more! The trials have somehow gotten even more dangerous, and there's so much going on that makes the story really exciting. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I didn't want to put this one down!! Absolutely loved it! Such an action packed beginning and fast paced throughout. We learn more about the characters and Brittany really makes you care about them. We get more of the little romance ;) developing friendships, more answers to the mysteries as well as more to find out about and even more magic!! This episode was very emotional - multiple tissues were involved 😭😅 It's fast paced, shocking, endearing, and so engaging!
Oh man, this book! It had me on the edge of my seat. By the end of every chapter I was like wait, what!? NO! Are you serious? Whoa…For real?! OMG! What a fantastic read! I love the Dryad’s home, loved learning more about Alys (my favourite character in this serial series). The interactions with each of the competitors are great; the companionship between them but also the uncertainty because ultimately, they are competing against each other. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to the next competition!
This is the fourth episode of this episodic story and things are really heating up. This episode focused on another trial but there was more action and danger than just that. I don't want to give too much away but as I've suspected since the first episode, there is more going on behind the scenes. More for the heirs to overcome.
I'm enjoying the relationships between the heirs even more, as well as another look into part of this world. Everything is less neat and tidy that it might appear at the surface.
While I've enjoyed the other episodes this one is by far my favorite so far.
This episode continues to deepen the fantastic world and characters Wang has created. I feel like with each successive episode, I need to know MORE. Forest of Blood in particular has so many twists and turns that keep you on your toes.
We only have two episodes left, and I'm excited to read more!
I think this might be my fav book in the series so far. I really enjoy Alys and her love for animals… even tho it gets her in trouble. I’m really excited to see how the prophecy plays out and fingers crossed they keep working together and two of the competitors don’t stab the other in the back… I got my eye on them 🤣 I’m still wondering how Quinns gonna be queen

This episode felt quicker than the other three because we are already so entrenched in Quinn’s world. The Dryad trial and the Woodlands have perhaps been the easiest for me to imagine as Wang captures the feel of all the unknowns of a forest so well.
We see the ways Quinn starts to form alliances with her competitors, in turn how she must become a bit more vulnerable with the other heirs. I enjoy seeing Quinn grow in this, as I know a big part of her character arc is to figure out who she can trust when the echoes of betrayals scream in her head.
Learning more about Alys in this trial is also exciting to see. Her family dynamics are interesting, as are the ways the Dryads honor their dead. As the clan who’s ethos is Life, it makes sense that we also see rituals for Death. The truth of Alys’ gift is revealed in this episode and you learn more about how she lost her voice. All in all, a very engaging story!
The other characters are a bit more in the back ground this episode, but that is something that Wang has done consistently well throughout the seriesl. She focuses each episode primarily on the heir and territory hosting the trial, to give us as the readers plenty of time to process and ingest the story line.
All in all I am excited for the 5th trial and to learn more about Hickory’s home.
The character developments in this book are fantastic! Quinn is my favorite character. However, Alys and Hickory are climbing the ranks. I'd put them in a three-way tie with Quinn. Aeron is second while Vale ranks third. The Queen may come after me for saying that! Also, Vale's ranking should be shocking since I'm a Slyph too.
The Trial of Life seems to cross-pollinate with the reality of the brewing clan war and something much more dangerous! Beware!
With each new release, it is hard to decide which episode is my favorite. My only question: Can this episode be beat? We'll see!
The stakes are so high right now! I am both super excited and dreading what will happen next as I get into the end section of this series. I don't think I am emotionally prepared to face the pain that will come but also leaving this world behind. *cries* I love it, and the characters so much (well, not all of them but I am not meant to anyway). Right now, I'm finding it a little hard to finish this serial, just so I could stay in it forever. But at the same time, I NEED to know how it ends and I have a deadline before I can't read it at all... you know which side wins. XD
I think I keep saying every new episode is my favorite so far but I have to say the same about this one. I loved the trial, particularly as the first time we really see the five truly work together instead of the trial being individualized. I also love the bigger plot starting to be spelled out more with the conflicts the group starts putting together before this trial even starts. They're all bringing their own talents and knowledge to work towards something much bigger than just the trials and it's super interesting and really captivating.
This episode has a plenty of action but not as much drama. It sort of calms down in the speed of the story. It’s actually good timing on the overall arc. It brings up more questions while some big secrets have been revealed. I definitely enjoyed this episode and can’t wait for the next. I’m too into it and wish I could watch in in IMAX instead of just normal 3D in my head with low volume of my own voice as my imagination roams wild while the picture is depicted in my head from the words written down. This is definitely a 3 hour movie on par with LOTR or HP and Peter Pan.
Wow! What an action packed thriller! I found myself on the edge of my seat with a “Hunger Games” type of anxious anticipation from start to finish. The author kept me guessing in the best possible way and I literally could not put it down.
This episode really reveals more of the hearts of the characters in so many ways and I’m finding that I’m connecting more and more, not just with Quinn, but with each Faerie in the Ethodine.
Book 4 of Wings of Betrayal series is my favorite. Quinn has grown so much since book 1. In this book, I was able to learn more about Ays and Hickory. Alys is super cute, and Hickory is a puzzle I want to solve. I was really happy to see Quinn's character growth in this episode. I don’t want to give any spoiler but there is a big shift from Quinn just wanting to survive and escape to open up and care about the people around her. This is an amazing book.
It starts with a bang and from there it never lets you put it away. The growing relationship between the characters and the lurking danger is delivered brilliantly. Alys had been my favourite character so far and this episode was a treat for me. Loved it. The writing, world-building and mysteries all are incredible. As always Brittany Wang nails the pacing.
These books just keep getting better and better. I love that each 'main' Character has their own time in the spotlight with each book and with that we get to see a part of the world that person lives in. I dint want this series to end but I want to read more and more. Brittany is going an amazing job at keeping me hooked and wanting more!
I have loved every one of the episodes so far, and they just keep getting better. Quinn started completely on her own in the first one, but the heirs have all gotten more involved with the story throughout and this one, as probably expected for the Dryad trial, gave so much more information about Alys, and she is just an awesome character. Looking forward to more of her and of Hickory.
This book may be my favorite of the series so far! The characters interactions with one another is written SO WELL! Each one has a moment to shine, and I am so glad we learn more of Alys’ story here!
This is also the book I decided that Hickory is my favorite character! As someone who is half deaf and has similar fears as him, who is half blind, this one really stood out to me!
