AmblesideOnline Poetry Anthology Volume Two: Walter de la Mare, Eugene Field, James Whitcomb Riley, Christina Rossetti

"[A student] should have practice, too, in reading aloud, for the most part, in the books he is using for his term’s work. These should include a good deal of poetry, to accustom him to the delicate rendering of shades of meaning, and especially to make him aware that words are beautiful in themselves, that they are a source of pleasure, and are worthy of our honour; and that a beautiful word deserves to be beautifully said, with a certain roundness of tone and precision of utterance." (Charlotte Mason, Home Education )

This book contains a selection of poems carefully chosen for the use of students using the AmblesideOnline Curriculum, Year Two, but enjoyable for those of all ages. In addition, we have included our own biographical and teaching notes.

These are not just they are friends who touched our hearts, made us smile, helped us see the world in a new way, helped us give words to what we were already seeing.

Wonderful! I really enjoyed the Rosetti and am glad to have finished this volume in February. This is a delightful way to read the poets I didn't and hear the words and make some connections. I see ideas in new ways - and came across some old friends along the way.

A delightful anthology to enjoy at any age. I loved it just as much as my children did and really appreciated the biographical sketches of the poets.
