Imagine having to work so hard just to spend time with your significant other who's trapped in a tower just like Rapunzel and he's stuck trying to fulfill his tasks by himself (unreasonable tasks given by the main family which got in the way of his planned school/birthday trip for Yuuri).
Yuuri figures out a way for him to finish 3 days of work in 1 day and they both hightail back to Kyoto with Gramps/Father's help.
They then have a fight on the bus to Kyoto for the remaining of the school trip before shortly reconciling in time for Yuuri's birthday.
Yuuri sneaks in a kiss at Kyoto, thinking that no one can see them; alas, the security detail from the 4th residence are actively tailing them & reported the kiss back to theain family. JUST WHO IS THIS UNREASONABLE MAIN FAMILY??
Last but not least, omg, we finally meet another member of the Katsuragi family, Keiichiro's older brother! And his introduction is over the top too. He's outside of Yuuri's hotel room window.
My overriding sentiment about this story is that it should be better than it is. Something about it just doesn’t click with me and it may just be one of those me things. Either way, my thought is that this might be my last volume.
This time out, Yuri’s birthday is scheduled to coincide with a double class trip to Kyoto that Keiichiro’s school will also be going with. As usual, overplanning occurs and, as usual, disaster strikes.
And I think that’s probably the issue - the character growth in this story is very, very slowly paced and not especially interesting. We’ve seen this whole scenario play out with a different lick of paint many times over.
Oh, parts of it come together real well. Yuri comes to Keiichiro’s rescue for a change and her solution to his plight, which threatens their birthday plans, is very clever. It’s nice to see her not the butt of the joke for once.
I just don’t feel much for the two of them. The whole pomposity of the rules that Keiichiro is constantly waylaid by would feel more interesting if he ever seemed interested in standing up for himself. Oh, he does, but the ways are so, so small for this far along.
The absurdity of the scenario does not automatically equate to hilarity either. Sometimes it does, and has, but when it doesn’t pan out the whole thing has very little to hold my interest.
I did enjoy the brief moments with Yuri’s friend, Chigusa, who is clearly on the prowl pretty much constantly and proud of it. Keiichiro’s body guard has some wacky moments too and the second one in particular is inspired.
When something romantic happens, like the bus trip or the sneaky (well, not exactly) moment that Yuri pulls by the river, then the story briefly gets the spark it needs. Trying to apply that to damp kindling, however, is a fool’s errand.
Maybe I’ve just had enough. If the preview suggests that these moments might become more frequent, well, I might come back, but it doesn’t feel like a valuable use of my time or money.
3 stars - this is somebody’s cup of tea, I’m sure, and I don’t utterly hate it, it’s fine. But there’s nothing that makes me want to read more and I just can’t get over that block with this series.
this was absolutely adorable. yuri boldly—and wholeheartedly—confesses her feelings to the quiet and reserved keiichiro, and from there, their dynamic becomes an absolute joy to watch. keiichiro is someone who tries to follow the rules, especially those set by his strict family, while yuri is the kind of girl who’s constantly (and charmingly) pushing against them.
at first, yuri thinks she’s the only one invested—she’s the one craving physical affection, initiating all the excitement in the relationship. but over time, keiichiro proves that he’s just as devoted. he may not be loud about it, but he consistently finds clever loopholes in the rules to show his love and fight for their relationship in his own way.
sweet, funny, and full of heart, hayaku shitai futari captures the push-and-pull of two very different people learning how to meet in the middle—and falling deeper in love as they do.
Thanks so much to Edelweiss and the publisher for the DRC. Fan girling over the antics in this series is a favorite pastime of mine.
Their relationship keeps getting cuter as they forced apart my stupid family rules. It was nice to see our MMC be so vulnerable and express how he wanted to help our FMC because she does so much for him.
His brother showing up in the same dramatic way as him is hilarious. I wonder what will happen now.
Lo que me hizo terminar el vol fue el hermano de Keiichi, definitivamente seguiré la historia pero el back and forth de las situaciones absurdas exaspera a estas alturas.
