Life is a jumble of pictures, each one important but no one picture lasting a lifetime. Each has an embedded memory that brings back a time and place—some important and others rather forgettable. Alex thought he had figured out the importance of each picture, but they continued to fall apart. Enduring two wars, relationships with a dozen women, and now finding the love of his life, he might’ve gotten it right. Or so he thought.Do we control our destiny, or do we stumble around hoping to not fail one more time? Is there a greater ending if we select the right picture and listen to our heart? Alex is determined to find that missing photograph of a life well-lived.

I received a gifted copyof this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the author.

Edge Pieces is a wonderful little gem of a book! Told across dual time lines, we follow Alex - a young soldier aged only 19 years old. Alex is fighting in a war in Saudi Arabia until the more present time of 2021.
The story covers his time as a soldier, the wars he's fought in and the impact this has had in him, his life, his ups and down, loves and losses and the wisdom and lessons learned along the way.
I loved the concept of this book with how pieces of life's puzzle slot together as we go through life and experience different things but how they can also become fuzzy and less obvious or even lost as we adapt to changes and situations we face and go through.
I did feel more could be added to the book in the form of more information about times with huge gaps between them, but overall I enjoyed this read and am so pleased to have had the chance to read it.

This little, quick read takes a serious look at life and the path you forge. The puzzle that develops as decisions are made and lessons are learned is the backbone of this story. I wasn’t sure what I was getting with this book when I received it.

The book follows Alex through his life from the time that he is a young, naïve soldier in 1990 when he was only 19 years old and trying to figure things out while fighting a war in Saudi Arabia to present day 2021. For the next 190 pages, you see the impact of not only his 20 years in the military and two wars in the Middle East, but also the impact of love and loss and the wisdom that comes with experiencing life and making mistakes.

As the book spans over 30 years, there is obviously a lot that is left out. If you are looking for a book with a tremendous amount of details and narration this isn’t going to give it to you. It is clear that the thread that is pulling you through this story is the idea of this puzzle of life, how you begin to see how all the pieces fit together at different stages of your life, but as you move through and adapt to events, the picture gets fuzzy, the pieces begin to shift and you are looking for those edge pieces to fall into place. It shows the messiness and unpredictability of life. It is ever changing, and you need to be able to cope and adapt.

This analogy comes to life, in essence, by exploring Alex’s love life over these 30 years. Obviously, war time creates a sense of isolation and through letters he falls in love at 19. First love is long lasting in normal times, but cement that with being young and wartime deployments. You are left with what you get...a lifelong impact, unresolved questions, and lessons learned. So you continue to hold on to that one thing that helped you get through the tough and scary times;. in this case a photograph.

I loved the structure of this book. I’ve always been a huge fan of alternating timelines. Here you have some chapters that are present day mixed with the chronological chapters of the events of Alex’s life up to “today,” starting in 1989.

Ok, so what I didn’t necessarily like about the book is also something that I understand and in many ways agree with, but still the fictional storyteller in me struggled a little. Again, this book is really about highlighting Alex’s journey through life by way of love and military. The idea that life changes, and we make good and bad choices along the way. But, I struggled with so many details being left out. There would be years missing from the timeline. We never even learn the names of his children or some of the other important people that came and went from his life. With that said, I get it. Those missing elaborating and developmental elements are just not deemed essential to driving home the message being developed.

The ending is very moving, in some ways I was like “well, that figures!” But, I’m not disappointed by the ending. Based on the story that was told and how it was developed led to this conclusion, I was very satisfied.

This is not one of those books that would necessarily have gravitated to, but I’m really glad I read it. There are plenty of military and love scenes, some tough conversations, and a whole lot of bad choices, but all of those lead to Alex becoming the person he is at the end of the book. Even if this isn’t one of those books you would normally pick up, I really do recommend picking it up and giving it a read. You’ll finish it pretty quickly, hopefully think about the themes that it addresses, and support an Indie author! And of course, what recently published book wouldn’t be complete without references to COVID?

**I received a gifted copy from the author in exchange for an honest review!**

This is not normally the type of book that I gravitate toward, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I was anticipating! It took me a little bit to get used to the writing style and time jumps, but I was able to connect more and more to Alex throughout his journey. I am a big fan of past/present writing so I definitely liked the way we got flashes of the present while being heavily involved in the past. Watching the relationship between Alex and Jenny evolve and grow throughout their lives and the way they were able to grow separately and together was wonderful. I didn't know where the love story was going at the beginning with additional characters, but it evolved into something so beautiful. The ending of this book genuinely broke my heart but I'm very glad that I read it and experienced this journey. And thank you C. Ward for reaching out, it was a pleasure to read and review your book!

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS A LOT OF SPOILERS ABOUT THE WHOLE BOOK.

First of all I want to thank the author for reaching out to me. And asking me to read and review her book in exchange for an honest review. I feel absolutely honored you reached out!

When I started the book I assumed it would be a book about war. Following Alex' journey throughout his military career. And while that is definitely incorporated into the story. It is not his story about his military career. It is the story about Alex and his journey through life. How he develops from a nineteen year old boy into a man, who learns, adjusts and evolves as the person he becomes to be in the end. It is the story about discovering who he is, what is love? True love? And at what point you truly know what love is?

The book goes back and forth between past and present. In the present he seems to be in the hospital and/or wounded. He is trying to cling to life and survive.
In the past we go through is life for a period of about 30 years.

It starts off in 1990 as boy of 19 who is doing his best in the army. One day the mails comes in. And what I didn’t know, is that the mail has to be burned in the end. But he snatches a letter away from a girl named Josie who wants to have sand from Saudi-Arabia. He decides to reply. Adds sand into the envelope and some money and sends it off. A few weeks later a refrigerator arrives! Packed with delicious goods and a thank you note from the community.
There is also a letter addressed to him from Nikki, a senior in high school. They start to write and flirt. And they fall for one another.

I don’t want to spoil to much about the story. But I love how they met. But what I admire most is that Alex is so dedicated toward Nikki. Everything he does, is with her in his mind. He works his ass off, applies to be a ranger, so he earns more money and can marry Nikki. He loves her so damn much.

Okay I just added that this review contains a lot of spoilers. My heart is bursting to write it all down. Eventually the start to grow apart. And Nikki breaks things off. My heart ached for Alex. He was so broken.
And I love how the author penned down his pain. It was so subtlety written into his character. And at first my heart hoped they would reconnected again.

But that doesn’t happen. He tries to reach out a couple of times. But she never replies.

Seeing Alex struggle through live and developed was beautiful and painful to see and read at the same time.
How he is with a girl just because he feels like he has to almost? They get married, kids. But it just isn’t working. They are nice and cordial. But not in love. Eventually years later they separate.

And then Jenny enters the story. Oh my lord I LOVE Jenny. I love Jenny and Alex together! I love how they first start to connect. How they NEED each other in this life. I love the ache, the love, the joy, the connection between them. It was perfect.

So now I will shut up! But what happens to them. What life deals them. How she is there for Alex when he needs to go on another tour to get peace in his head. I just love everything.
I was scared at some point, and rejoiced at another.

Absolutely picks this up! It is so incredibly good and beautiful. It’s short, but everything is in it. It’s perfect and I will admit I cried.

Alex and Jenny will always live in my heart! Brilliantly written book!! Love, love, love it!

And C. Ward, thank you so much for reaching out! I would have never picked this book up otherwise. I am glad I read it and could enjoy it to the fullest. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ♥

This is not a book I would typically pick up. The author reached out and I figured I'd give it a shot. I did enjoy the book, there were a few lines that I had issues with, and they touched a nerve but overall, it's a good story.

The story starts off in 1989, with a kid just out of high school in the army, in Saudi Arabia. The Gulf War looms. I remember this time, as the daughter of a veteran, my dad was over there, fighting for our freedoms. I spent most of my life without a dad so America could remain free. Even today, at 42, I barely know my dad. I really felt this book when his wife took his kids and left. My dad spent the last years of his service in Texas while we lived in Oklahoma with my mom. Most people that crap all over the military have no idea the sacrifices they make, both physical and emotional.

Alex is just a young kid that didn't want to go to college and decided the military was the next best thing. One day his unit receives some mail, and he responds to a random letter from a kid in Ohio. The kids' parents get together with the school district and they send a massive care package. In the package is another letter, this time from a young girl, Nikki and she sent a picture. They strike up a relationship through letters. When he gets some leave time and they're back in the states, he meets up with Nikki and they're instantly an item. They live about 4 hours away from each other and it takes its toll on their relationship. When Alex wants to move up in the military so he can provide better for Nikki, she ends up running off with someone else. Alex makes the military his life work and does well. Over time he meets someone else, Jenny. With Jenny things are good, then she gets sick, and things are derailed. In the end, Alex plays the hero one more time.

The book is a story of love and loss. Of what a true relationship means, standing beside someone no matter what. It's written like a diary, spanning 30 years, two wars and three relationships. There aren't a lot of details but at 190 pages it packs a punch. The story is raw at times and sad, I teared up on more than one occasion. I read this book in a little over an hour. I really wanted to find out Alex's fate. I would recommend this book. I received this book free from the author for an honest review.

A touching and beautiful written story that kept me engaged from the very beginning.
We are introduced to a young Alex Davis who has joined the Army and follow him through his journey through war, love, loss and simply life. We get to understand the boy who seeks to be a man and develop that perfect picture of what his life should be. Edge Pieces can resonate with so many people, not just those who have served in the military or their spouses. It's a coming of age story that hits so many emotions that I still have goosebumps as I write this. I found myself laughing at certain points in the story and teary eyed in others. Alex and a couple of other characters we meet are relatable and filled with so much personality that leads you wanting more. This story wasn't what I was expecting and I'm a little mad at myself for not picking it up sooner because I love stories that resonate with me and become embedded in my brain for many years to come. C. Ward's Edge Pieces is truly a masterpiece and I highly recommend it for everyone.

The beauty of this book is that it completely encapsulates the love, experience, and growth necessary for happiness. The title is a perfect description of how messy a deconstructed moment is until you learn what is needed for the piece to fit in its place. The love story here is one of the most true and real I have read. The author does not shy away from heartbreak and instead uses the difficult moments to show the strengthening bonds in a happy home. There were many moments my heart flatlined, then was resuscitated. Plus there were so many beautiful and relatable quotes. My heart is equal parts broken and complete!

I recommend this book if you like stories like: The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, P.S. I Love You by Cecilia Ahorn, and Bring Me Back by Kristen Granata.

What a pleasure this was to read! Although it’s not a book I would have actively bought, it turned out to be a book that I’m so thankful I did read. It was the perfect mixture of romance, coming of age and fate.
The storyline was absolutely beautiful and had me laughing out loud in some scenes and sobbing in others. C. Ward’s storytelling was incredible and fluent (it helps that this book is inspired by true events) and I admire her use of analogies to express to the reader the feelings of the protagonist.
This is a self-published book and a definite example as why you shouldn’t look past self-published authors. There are some mistakes in the writing but that is to be expected due to not having a professional editor. I really enjoyed this book and devoured it in one sitting. I definitely recommend this book to lovers of romance and coming-of-age novels. It’s available of Amazon.
And remember, Colleen Hoover started her journey by self-publishing her book!

This story is one that I do not normally read. I usually read books that are in no way a reality because sometimes avoiding the real world is better or at least an easy way to escape. This book was given to me by the author and I wish to thank her from the bottom of my heart. This story brought to light so many things that I have either avoided or just forgot about. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who needs to remember why they are here and how to survive when things get tough.....

I normally give a recap of what the book entails. In this one, I will not. I think going in blind is the best way to read this book and when reading you will understand why. Trust me when I say that this book should be on everyones list!

When I say that this story brought tears to my eyes, I mean rivers flowing down my cheeks. I cried during several places within this very short book. The story is about 150 pages or so but let me tell you, the content inside cannot be describes as just words on a page. They are full of laughter and tears, anxiety and heartbreak, love and hate and everything in between. I was really surprised by how much this book made me appreciate my husband and our life together. So many similarities that make me love him and all that he is. This book describes life as pieces of a puzzle and it is so true. Different aspects of your life are the pieces and what you do with those pieces form who you are and complete the puzzle . Such an amazing read. 5 stars are not enough for this book! Well Done!

Edge Pieces
By: C. Ward

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alex is overseas and gets a letter addressed to “Any soldier”. It’s from a young student. He replies and it leads to a young love.
✉️
When he has leave he meets Nikki whom makes a huge impact on his life. As Alex tries to balance his life in the military and Nikki goes off to college they keep their relationship alive, but it changes over time.
✉️
Alex is blessed with two loves of his life. Jenny enters his life and they challenge each other and life moves forward. I loved their relationship because it was raw and realistic as you deal with things as an adult. Things happen in their lives which changes them forever.
✉️
I come from a long line of military and I could relate to the struggles of distance, time apart and challenges of the military life.
✉️
A story of love, loss, and hope. A beautifully written story.

Thank you author C. Ward for this copy. I know a few people who will love this novel.

Once in awhile, as a reader, you stumble across a hidden gem. A book that you didn't see coming, a story that you weren't expecting. This is that hidden gem.

This is not typically a book that I would have picked up. The cover didn't catch my attention. I hadn't seen any promos for it or read anyone raving about it. Had it not been for a simple comment on my IG, I most likely would have never even discovered this story. I'm so glad that I did.

Now (for the most part), I only read romance, but this book...

This is not a LOVE story. This is a LIFE story.

Edge Pieces reads almost like a diary. It's so real-to-life that I actually had to stop and send the author a message asking if this was fiction or an autobiography. Alex is trying to put the pieces of his life together, but he can't seem to make all of the puzzle pieces fit. He's dedicated his life to being a soldier. He's been through wars and women, and after decades, he feels like he's in a good place. Does destiny have other plans for him?

As I said, this is not my typical read. There wasn't the steam, the angst, the drama that I normally cling to. This book didn't make me cry (although I teared up a time or two), it didn't make me laugh out loud (but I did chuckle a few times), but I tell you...this book made me feel. I lived this story. It was as though I was right there in the trenches with Alex. I felt his fear and his heartbreak, and I truly felt like I was reading my friend's diary.

Now, maybe I felt so close to this story because of the similarities to my real life. This book spans decades and it starts the year before I graduated high school, so Alex and I would have been almost the same age and lived through the same lifechanging moments in history. Also, parts of this story take place in Ohio (Hello! Ohio girl here!), so when they go to our local amusement park, I got a little too excited. I've been there! Not to mention that I know what it's like to have a person who you love (and might be a little obsessed with) walk away from you. Yep, I felt that.

This story is sometimes blunt and makes no apologies for it, but again, it's like you're reading someone's personal thoughts and not a book that's been prettied up and polished. As the story progressed, I became a little unsure of the direction is was taking because it was hitting a little too close to home. I thought that it was going to have one outcome, and then it threw me completely off the track.

This was a quick read, because 1) It's not a really long book; and 2) I couldn't stop reading until I knew Alex's fate. I still have so many questions for this author, and I'll probably pester them with a few more messages. I'd really like to just sit down with them for a cup of coffee or something, because I need more of this story. Well done. Just so well done.

This isn't normally the kind of book I would choose, but for some reason I couldn't put it down.

4/5 ⭐ OVERALL

"The puzzle of life isn't the same as a puzzle in a box. I can't look at the picture, arrange the pieces with straight sides into a border, and press the rest of the mess together. The puzzle of life doesn't come with a defined picture, and the pieces won't fit together the way I want them to."

Edge Pieces is a book about life and the obstacles along the way. I don't know what genre I would classify it as, but it follows Alex throughout his life and everything that made him who he is. From the Army, to relationships that failed and thrived, to the hardships.

This book isn't some amazing masterpiece, but it is thought provoking and gives you an interesting take on life's challenges.

I loved the puzzle piece analogy throughout the book. We can't make puzzle pieces fit together in a certain place no matter how badly we want them too, it's simply not going to happen. We have to take our time and figure out what the picture is and put the pieces where they belong before we can see it clearly. That's essentially what Edge Pieces is about.

I really enjoyed this short book and recommend to anyone. It's enjoyable and, again, I don't know why but I couldn't put it down. Also, the ending was a shocker to say the least.

Huge thank you to the Author for my copy!

Spanning around 30 years, this relatively short book tells the story of Alex from his time in the Army as a soldier and Ranger to first loves and marriages. The reader gets snippets as the book goes back forth between the past and present.

The book was different than I’m used to reading but I enjoyed seeing how Alex evolved over the years and how he made mistakes but found his happiness eventually. I did scratch my head at his actions towards some people including his family.

The ending was a bit of a surprise but all comes full circle.

I love when an author reaches out to me to read their book! It helps broaden my horizons and sometimes it gets me out of my comfort zone. This book did all those things. I’m not a huge memoir fan, this book is part memoir, part coming of age, um not usually my jam, but also part love story, okay I do a little love :)

Alex wasn’t a fan of school, that’s not how he learned, so like many young men, he signed up for the army as soon as he graduated. While on tour in the Middle East Alex responds to a dead solider letter, and in return not only does he receive a huge refrigerator box full of treats, he receives a love letter. He responds and what unfolds is a beautiful love story…until it isn’t. Life happens, we grow up, we grow apart. Life goes on.

Alex is devastated and jumps right back into the Middle East. After being sent home from an injury he fumbles with love for quite a while, until he lets his neighbors know his internet is being stolen. Turns out its them, and he invites them to dinner. Alex is captivated by Jenny and how messy they are. They both have a mess of life, but like being messy together. Through determination and stubbornness they work. Jenny is the second great love of Alex’s life. Jenny brings Alex so much joy, but he is drawn to the battlefield. Jenny stands by him, until he is done and they settle into civilian life. One day they are thrown a curveball and they learn things do not alway go the way they plan.

Even though this book was a coming of mix of genres I really don’t normally do or enjoy - I found myself drawn to this book wanting to figure out how it ended up. I enjoyed the dual timelines and learning how they intersected. I rooted for Alex, I felt like crying for Alex and Jenny, and I just teared up at it all. The author did a fantastic job of laying things out. I found the format unconventional, and in the beginning it was hard to get into, but after the first few pages I was onboard. I am so thankful the author reached out to me and offered a copy of her book in exchange for a review. This book is a quick short read, but be prepared it carries big feeling and it will stay with you. I am giving this one a 5 star rating after thinking about it, because I am still thinking about it! That doesn’t happen to me often. So thank you! Please do yourself a favor and grab this book - its out now!

When I started this, it had the feeling of a memoir and I was immediately there for it. Alex was serving in the US Army when a letter changed his life. It was from a child in Ohio and addressed to “any soldier”, but Alex took the time to respond. And that’s all I’m giving you. 😉
Spanning thirty years, two wars, and a great love or two, this book was end of year perfection for me. It was an emotional roller coaster and I’m possibly crying as I write this.

The title metaphor in Edged Pieces pulled me in and carried me throughout this short novel of a spirited, yet ackward, young man who comes of age and grows through his career in the Army over decades of service. After all, what most frames anyone’s lives, but our relationships and our careers?

There’s a brilliantly humorous situation that really kicks off the story when our hero, Private Alex Davis, responds to a young school girl’s letter requesting he send her some sand from where he’s stationed on the Iraqi border. He receives far more in return for his kindness, as this leads him to his first serious love (plus some other fantastic treats for his platoon!)

We follow Alex through his life as a regular guy who is willing to work hard to succeed in the Army. But, it’s an even tougher challenge to succeed in love, happiness, and contentment in life. I liked watching him grow and change throughout his adulthood, as he put together the pieces of a life well-lived. And I was so sad to say goodbye to him at the end of the story.

I was gifted a copy by the author for an honest review.

This was an excellent read. Alex and Nikki were the perfect example of first young love. Alex and Jenny were absolutely perfect for each other. The Army stuff was all really well researched and accurate. And I loved how she incorporated the anxiety that some of the Desert Storm and War on Terrosim vets get. Beautifully written and fast paced but not overwhelmingly jumpy.

Overall I enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend it.

As a self-published author myself, 90% of the books I read are from the same. The cover on this one drew me in. I wasn’t sure what to think about it at first, but it definitely got my attention. The story itself hooked me from the first few pages and took my thoughts and emotions on a roller coaster ride. This is a must-read book. Nicely done C. Ward

So beautiful

From the moment the big box arrived at camp I was pulled into an emotional chasm I didn’t want to climb out of. To say I felt every emotion we as humans experience while reading this story is an understatement. Truly a beautiful must read story.

I read another review about this book that said “once in awhile, as a reader, you stumble across a hidden gem” ..and that is exactly how I feel! It is so different from what I usually read but I could not read it fast enough.

My dad was a Marine in Vietnam and the first part gave me a little insight as to what it must have been like for him going to war for the first time as a young teenager and made me understand the way he is as an adult a little better. I feel like movies always show these macho men who were born to fight but this book gives a more raw and real look into what really goes through their minds.

This isn’t just a story about a guy at war, it’s a story about life. And love. And more life. Based on true events and so brilliantly written you can’t tell where the true story ends and fiction is added. One of the last lines is something that I feel really sums up life -

“Our life isn’t a picture we assemble with random pieces over time. Life is more like a dry erase board that we scribble on, wipe off, and scribble on again. What gets us in trouble is the fact that the dry erase board isn’t just ours to decorate. The board sits in public and passersby can put their marks on it. No different than any dry erase board; some bozo uses the wrong marker. We try scrubbing off the stains, but those unwanted marks remain like scars. Some scars are good, and some are ugly, but they remain no matter how much we try to forget.”

The irony is not lost on me that the longest review I’ve ever written on here is for a book I normally would have never picked up. This book touched me in a lot of ways, one being that I plan to explore more genres so I don’t miss out on story’s like this one. A quick read that I highly recommend! And if you aren’t running to send a soldier a refrigerator box full of snacks after read this, do you even have a heart?!

Part memoir, part coming of age, we follow Alex Davis from his first love to his forever love. Through two wars spanning nearly two decades, he carries her picture in his army helmet.

It begins when Alex decides to answer a letter to “Any Soldier" from a young girl. Her entire school sends a huge care package to Alex and the troops, and included is a letter from the girl's older sister. This begins a type of courtship through letters that finds Alex falling in love. This innocent love sees Alex through sometimes long, sometimes terrifying days on the battlefield. We see his desire to learn how to be part of a relationship while stumbling his way to becoming a man.

Authentic, profound, self-deprecating and poignant, Ward takes us through Alex's failures and triumphs as he identifies pieces of the picture of his life and strives to make sense of them. She reminds us that while life always takes many turns, the journey is what we make it.

Although there is romance in these pages, this is far more general or women's fiction than romance. As masterfully written as it is unique, this touching, inspiring story will appeal to readers of any genre. It was a refreshing surprise for me, and one of my favorite reads this year. I have no doubt it will be one of yours, as well, so make sure you don’t miss it!

This is a book that everyone need to read. It’s not my usual genre but so heartbreaking and impacting all at the same time.
We follow Alex through his journey through the military. Has carry’s the picture of a missed love and we watch how that builds him in and out of the military.

I loved this story because as someone who grew up surrounded by the military (dad and step dad) this did not glamorize the military or make it into a cheesy love story.
C. Ward showed how hard the military can be not only for the active member but his family and loved ones also.

This but just drew me and I loved how we go from the past to present. Each past chapter is a different time is Alex’s time and career. The ending so heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time.

This is a book that everyone needs to pick up and read. It’s short but more impacting then any other book I’ve read this year.

“Picture what you want in life, then work to put that picture together.”

“Our life isn’t a picture we assemble with random pieces over time. Life is more like a dry erase board that we scribble on, wipe off, and scribble on again. What gets us in trouble is the fact that the dry erase board isn’t just ours to decorate. The board sits in public, and passersby can put their marks on it.”

My wife received this book from the author as a gift. She is reading a few other books, so I picked it up and started to read it. As a retired military and first responder, I loved and could relate Alex's journey from the Gulf War as a young private, to a senior enlisted member in a specialized unit, and the effects of his career in his personal life. This book evoked strong emotional responses for me. From laughter, regrets, a tinge of anger, but most importantly it made me realize how much love I have for my wife. This story puts so much of what we experience in our journey in life into perspective, the scars that make us who we are, and our survival techniques after a devastating loss. I appreciate the writing and loved it!

I was sent a copy of this book by the author of this book . If you are looking for a short read with strong detail and something to capture your attention this is a great book! I felt captivated in the story enough to actually feel like I was there. I was in tears during parts of this book and especially the end.

This book follows Alex who joined the military at a young age, it tells the story of his life and how relationships and love effect the very best parts of ourselves, how we are willing to give ourselves to others and what we are wanting to sacrifice to receive those things.

I am going to be honest I felt all the emotions during this story. I was interested to see how someone in the military can gain their strength and hope from the real world by making such strong connections to others through letters and email.

I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to read Edge Piece. I am also thankful that C Ward reached out to me and gave me the privilege to read this story that has some true and close meaning to the heart! Thank you!

While wondering around in my local Barnes & Noble I was approached by C. Ward. He asked me if I would read his book and give him an honest review and nervously I accepted.

I took me less than a day to read this book and I DEVOURED it. It was well written, I could see not glaring grammatical errors. But more importantly it evoked emotion in me. The story itself was beautifully told. It took the reader through a journey of self discovery and reflection to which you could relate to on a deep level.

It made me want to hold my husband a little tighter at night and appreciate the brief time we have on this earth together a little more.

This book was sent to me by the Author and I agreed to read and review it. I loved it! It takes you on a journey of this man's life. Through his love, life events, and his ups/downs. This story puts you in his eyes and you may not always agree with everything he does. It has a reason and it is real. Def recommend for an easy read!

From beginning to end, I was fully immersed and invested in Alex's journey in both the army and his love life. The story goes back and forth between the past and the present which I absolutely loved. It's fast-paced when it needs to be and slowed down when I felt the heartbreak I wasn't expecting. Without giving away any spoilers, it's important to note that for the duration of this book, I felt like the storyline was completely relatable. Trying to figure out life and love...making sense of it....this author did a fabulous job at creating something I can't wait to read more of. Hope to see more from this author soon.

I was given my copy from the author outside of Barnes and Noble with my friend a while back. Unfortunately I just got around to reading it but I am glad I did. Although I'm not super big on these types of stories, I felt like it gave good insight to the life of a veteran coming home and trying to figure life out. I enjoyed how this story did not sugarcoat the problems Alex had in his relashionships and kept it very grounded and true. Overall a really sweet story that is very heartwarming and a quick read.
