Flotsam is the Stuff that Floats

Rate this book
Set in an American coastal community the novel explores the changing dynamics of a family and the effects of an unacknowledged mental illness, suffered by Bernadette, the middle sister. Although heartbreaking at times, the story remains hopeful, as it reveals the unsaid truths that threaten to tear a family apart, and the mysterious bonds that hold them firmly together. "A wonderful depiction of a family in troubled times - heartbreaking, yet hopeful, humorous and utterly uplifting." Undiscovered Authors

A beautifully written account of a dysfunctional family. Resonates with me as my own family is quite similar! Even if you don't see your own family here, Squillante's tale of coming of age in small town America is so well written that you can't fail to engage with the characters, all individuals in their own right. Best novel I have read this year!
