After the disaster of the month before, Dahlia Poplar, cursed witch and helper extraordinaire, is ready for her serene, supernatural small town life to return to normal. However, her hopes for a more peaceful existence don’t last when a childhood friend moves back to Luna Lane to open up an escape room.
With the Spooky Games Club thriving, Dahlia decides to help her friend by using her magic to quickly get his business up and running. Dahlia’s enchantments accomplish the task, but before the Games Club has a chance to enjoy the new attraction, a test of the escape room results in a freak, fatal accident. Riddled with guilt, Dahlia wonders where her enchantments went wrong—or if there’s something more to the disaster.
The only way to divine whether or not the death was her fault, the result of an accident, or murder is to investigate—and perhaps even play the dangerous game herself. In this one-hour escape room, failure to escape could mean death, not just for Dahlia, but for those she holds most dear.

Okay, for a second book, this had some great twists and turns. Especially when it came to the villain. Other than that, I'm not really a fan of love triangles and can barely tolerate them. I am, however, enjoying these game club nights. That being said, I can't wait for the next one.
I loved this book. I enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries but this series is so unusual and original in the story line that it is up there as one of my favourites and book two doesn't disappoint. I love the idea of the curse, as a plot line for the character not to curse anyone. The main character has to preform a spontaneous good deed everyday or slowly turn to stone, this is a long running thread throughout the series as is the witch who cursed her, the book does work well as a standalone but I think maybe it works better if you start with book one because we learn a little bit more with each book. The main mystery it's self is good and does get solved, I had no idea who the killer was of why. I really liked the way it is all set around an escape room and games club (another original idea that works). But it is the characters that really make the series, they are quirky . I especially like Broomhilda the playful broom with an attitude. I look forward to the next book in the series, to see what the author has in store for the characters next. When an old friend moves back to town, Dahlia finds herself getting talked into helping him and his business partner. Using her witch magic to turn the old falling down bowling hall into an escape room. so they can quickly get the business up and running and attract visitors to the sleep town. Dahlia and her games club want to be the first to try it out but something goes wrong with the test run and the obnoxious business partner gets killed. Could Dahlia's fear of opening up the town to humans have caused her to make a mistake when reading the blue prints? Or is something more sinister going on and the death was actually murder? I liked the narrator and thought she used some good voices to give the characters accents. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I enjoy this paranormal cozy. It’s made up primarily of paranormal creatures and a few humans living in a small, secluded town. They have a Spooky Game Club which several of the residents usually enjoy, although lately the games are taking a sinister twist. This time a former resident wants to return home to open an escape room. His partner in the escape room is an outsider who wants to cut corners by having, the resident witch, Dahlia Poplar, conjure the changes needed to a former bowling alley to turn it into an escape room. Against her better judgment she uses the blueprints on a phone to transform the bowling alley. Shortly after the escape room is completed, several people, including the outside partner try it out. An apparent accident occurs and this partner is killed. Was the death an accident? Did Dahlia do something wrong or is something more sinister in play. Will someone else be injured or killed especially when various town members are forced to play the Escape Room?
This had an intriguing plot with fascinating characters. The main character, Dahlia Poplar was cursed by another witch while she was still inside her mother. This same evil witch killed her mother and is still causing havoc in the town. Dahlia is trying to figure out how to break the curse. She can call her deceased mom back occasionally to ask her questions. In each book she is learning a little more about her mother and her relationship with the evil witch.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book in this series and what will go wrong with the next game the Spooky Game Club plays.
This 2nd title in the Spooky Games Club was great! It had everything I loved about the first book with the unique fiction town of Luna Lane and the many paranormal characters. Normally a story will be about a witch, ghost, etc but in this town you will find the friendships made up of a witch, ghost, a family of werewolves, a couple of vampires, a mummy and of course a few humans as well. Dahlia has been cursed since birth and all her friends help her with the daily terms of her curse. But in this installment the son of one of the "normies" (meaning humans) comes back to Luna Lane to open an escape room but in doing so he brings back some humans that bring terrible trouble to the town once again. So now poor Dahlia is right in the middle of solving a murder as well as her race to get her daily tasks completed!
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the 3rd book soon.
This is the second book in this great new series. This mystery is completely entertaining and better than the first book. The characters are developing nicely and it's just a different kind of cozy. I'm enjoying the magic and the fact that that this book and series are a little darker than normal cozies! I can't wait for book 3. I received an ARC of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily providing an honest review.
This is the second book in the series and I have to say this is one of my favorite series ever! It's such a unique story concept. I love the characters-Broomie is a favorite! I can't wait to start the third book! Definitely recommend this series!
This is the second book in a great series. I was fortunate to get an ARC copy. I can honestly say that it was a true pleasure to read this book. Luna Lane is a place I would like to visit. Escape rooms are a fun concept and adding in some enchantments, what could possibly go wrong? Fun characters, intriguing and twisty plot, an overall fun read. Can’t wait for book 3.
Another fun visit with the Luna Lane crew. This book had some heartfelt moments in it and draws you even future into the characters back stories. I really enjoyed this installment and can’t wait to get back to Luna Lane in the next book in the series.
After the disaster of the previous month, all Dahlia Poplar wants is for her serene, supernatural town to return to normal. But, when a childhood friend returns to Luna Lane to open an escape room, she quickly realizes that her peaceful life isn’t going to be returning any time soon. To help her friend, Dahlia decides to use her magical powers to quickly get the escape room up and running. Her enchantments quickly get everything set up but before the Spooky Games Club even has time to test things, there’s a freak accident that results in a fatality. Dahlia is riddled with guilt and wonders if she overlooked something in her spells, or if someone else managed to manipulate her enchantments to cause the accident. The only way to find out is to investigate and, maybe play the dangerous game herself.
I’m enjoying this fun series so much! I adore the quirky, sweet residents of Luna Lane. Amy McNulty has come up with a town that is so much fun and full of supernatural creatures that would be genuinely fun to know. I love the way most of the town works together to keep the secrets of Luna Lane and to ensure the town’s daily needs are provided for. This was such a fun, easy read and I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.
I received a copy of this book I’m exchange for an honest review. This has, in no way, affected my opinions or the content of this review. I’d like to thank Amy McNulty and netgalley for allowing me to have this review copy.
Enchantments and Escape Rooms brings the reader back to the magical town of Luna Lane, where more than a few sinister secrets linger. Dahlia agrees to do a favor for an old friend and magically construct the new escape room he plans to open. But when a dead body turns up during a test-run, Dahlia must figure out if it was her magic or someone else's that caused the death. This series creates an immersive world full of vibrant characters. The layers, secrets, and twists make for a satisfying mystery. The audiobook is especially entertaining.
Disclaimer: I received an audio copy for free and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
I was granted complimentary audio ARC access by author Amy McNulty via Audible promo code in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to Amy and her team! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Peace seems to have fallen on this quaint little town of monsters and ghouls since the cursed boardgame mystery was solved, but life never stays easy in this place! An outsider is here to build an escape room that will draw tourists, and no sooner are the renovations complete when things start going horribly wrong and this poor little town once again has a body on its hands. Can Dahlia solve this mystery and save her friends?
If you love cozy mysteries and anything paranormal, you need to read this series! I was fortunate enough to be included on the review tour for the first installment, Broomsticks and Board Games, when it first got an audiobook, and I rated that one a 5 too. These mysteries are fun, just complex enough to keep you guessing, and wrap you up in the messed up personal lives of a very compelling cast of characters along the way. I want to keep coming back to this little town and the Spooky Games Club for along time yet!
There's enough backstory and world-building details built into this book here and there that I don't think reading these books in order is an absolute necessity. You might spoil the mystery of prior books if you read later ones first, but you're not going to be lost jumping in late.
Both author Amy and narrator Danielle did an amazing job of making me vehemently hate early antagonist Fred, and I think that made it even more fun! I also love how regular life still goes on. Dahlia still has to perform her daily good deed or stuffy the consequences. Faen still has kids to look after. Draven still have a business to run, and still grumbles about his nocturnal nature meaning he's the last to hear what happened. Broomhilda is still the most adorably catlike animate broom I've ever met. (Forgive me if I've misspelled names as I've only listened to the audio.)
In terms of the narrative performance, this is the same narrator returning as book one, and overall I do think Danielle Daly does a good job. She puts in maximum effort to vary every character's voice in pitch, cadence, accent, etc. so it's always easy to tell who's talking, even if you're terrible with remembering character names. My only negative comment is that some of the down-pitched voices sounded a little too forced and occasionally grated on me. I looked back at my review of the previous book and I didn't mention it then, so I'm not sure now if there was less of that done in book one or if I just noticed it more in this one. I do listen fast, 2x these days, and that tends to pitch things up if it's going to cause notable alterations, so it's also possible that those voices are a bit lower at regular speed and it all sounded fine at 1x and I just found the wrong speed to play it back for those voices. Every time I started the audio again and it defaulted to 1x it felt far too slow for me, though, so I didn't do enough 1x listening to tell.
Thanks again Amy McNulty for the review copy! I highly recommend this series to all cozy mystery lovers with an interest in paranormal fiction.
Cursed witch Dahlia Poplar and her Spooky Games Club friends have another murder to solve. Dahlia's childhood friend Zashil has returned to Luna Lane. Zashil is there to open an Escape Room. He and his investor Fred Beauchamp want Dahlia to use her magic to convert the old bowling alley in Luna Lane into their escape room business. Things go wonky when the escape room is tested. From there this author will keep readers entertained with twists and turns as well as a big surprise. Evil witch Eithne Allaway who cursed Dahlia before she was born is up to no good once again. I liked all the characters and I look forward to more adventures involving them.
Such a well written cozey para of mystery and murder, the array of characters so vibrant, colorful and charming , even magical will draw you in wanting to get to know them better while the mystery entices you further with its intrigue, secrets and drama bringing death to a small town. The plot carries you throughout with its own unique dramatic flare having you turning page after page without stopping until you've reached its unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire "Enchantments and Escape Rooms " today so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat
Dahlia is convinced to convert the old bowling alley into an escape room in one day. Unfortunately, the promoter is killed leaving an escape room and another person has serious leg injuries. Will Dahlia be able to prove she didn’t cause this on purpose and find out who actually caused the defects in the design?
Return to Luna Lane as Dahlia is recruited to use her magic to make an escape room for the town. During the initial game, there is an accident which leads to Dahlia and her friends to begin their own investigation into what happened. I enjoy reading about the dynamics of the group and the growing details of their back stories and lives. I am becoming more intrigued about some and hope to learn more as I continue to read. The descriptions of Luna Lane are so vivid that I could envision walking down the street with Dahlia. There were even moments of humor that had me laughing out loud.
Thank you Amy McNulty for a copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I liked this book more than the first in the series it really felt like she knew about escape rooms and the mystery was well crafted I wish the author was more creative with the naming of things it kind of takes me out of the book but for the most part I loved it and it made my girl gamer heart happy
The second installment of the Luna Lane adventures is even better than the first. The character development is wonderful. A totally unexpected villain, new characters and fast pacing is making this a new favorite series. I am hopeful that this series continues for a long while.
This series has an eclectic group of characters that make it unique and imaginative. I'm rooting for good things to happen for the characters. The mystery was quite creative.
I was on the edge of my seat for this one. And wow on the surprising twists at the end. I love how the people in the town all come together to support each other. Great characters, great mystery, great town. Already have the next adventure on hand.
The author did such a good job world building Luna Lane and all the inhabitants in the first book that this one could really get right to the mystery. Good progression on the big picture plot as well as the just-this-book murder mystery. Loved it!
