Before she can let up and enjoy some holiday cheer, real estate agent Alana Drake has work to do. With Christmas moving in fast, she has clients to meet with, houses to show, and cookies to bake. Every open house deserves her special touch—homemade and hand-decorated sugar cookies for a warm welcome. And she needs several dozen for upcoming holiday events and open houses.
But a poorly timed stop at the grocery store could upend more than her bag of groceries.
Running into Doctor Justin Teague—literally—shakes up Alana's tidy world. The chance encounter leaves her with a bum ankle, forces her to reconsider some dating ideals, and reveals new information about a longtime nemesis.
Books . . . chocolate . . . tea. These are a few of my favorite things. Combine them with a sunny summer day, and perhaps a beach or pool, and call me happy!
Books have always been a part of my life, and reading has always been a favorite pastime. In my childhood bookworm days, I'd hide away for hours with Trixie Belden or Laura Ingalls Wilder. These days, I read as much as I can, making it a priority to carve out time for my latest book club read. I love curling up with a cup of tea and getting lost in a good story.
A few years ago I decided to sit down at my computer and give voice to some stories that have been rattling around in my head for a long time. That launched me into the world of fiction writing, specifically the world of romance. So far, my completed novels and works-in-progress fall into the genres of women’s fiction, contemporary romance, and mainstream with romantic elements.
My novels are about people and their relationships – what brings them together, what keeps them apart, what brings them joy or annoys the hell out of them. My intent is to bring to life interesting and ‘real’ characters that you, the reader, can relate to in real-life situations that combine a little fun, plenty of drama (with perhaps a tear or two), and big helpings of friendship, love and self-discovery, and will leave you either cheering or sighing with a satisfied smile as you turn the final page. And just so you know . . . I like a happy ending.
After colliding with a doctor leaves Alana injured, her carefully organized life crumbles like overbaked Christmas cookies. Real estate agent Alana Drake knows her secret to selling houses is her homemade sugar cookies. With Christmas fast approaching, she better get her bake on. She pops into the grocery store but she winds up with an injured ankle after an accident with Dr. Justin Teague. Suddenly, her life takes a swift turn she didn’t expect. House calls, cookie baking, dating expectations beat Alana’s heart into a frenzy. Can she overcome it all with a fresh outlook and enjoy the holidays or will she deflate like overwhipped frosting?
Cookie Collision is a lighthearted holiday romance with a heartfelt message. Darlene Deluca is a talented women’s fiction writer, so I thought I knew what was in store. Cookie Collision surpassed my expectations ten-fold. It has all the feels, from the realistic heroine to the circumstances to the unexpected romance. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Alana grow and shift her perspective. Sometimes we need a shake-up to our life to discover what really matters. The setting at Christmas adds so much warmth to the story. The plot moves at a good pace with natural ebbs and flows. When reading Cookie Collision, it’s easy to get caught up in the story. The reason is simply flawless writing. Darlene Deluca is a gifted writer. She writes realistic stories everyone can relate to. Give your holiday spirit a boost and pick up Cookie Collision. Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My thoughts are completely mine.
I loved this book! The two main characters were great, and I loved the references to Kansas City landmarks and places. There was an unexpected plot twist that really helped the story feel more real. I’ve read other Darlene Deluca books, and this short story did not disappoint.
This fun, contemporary romance novella has a wonderful grabber of a start. And I like getting not just the gal's point of view, but also the guy's. Both characters are grown-ups that I find it easy to identify with.
Even the unluckiest accident can have a silver lining.
Some of the most interesting scenes in my opinion were the ones that showed how Alana juggled everything that was going on in her life. She had a rewarding career, a fun hobby, and a loving circle of friends and relatives to keep up with. I always enjoy reading about characters in romance novels who have already built happy and well-rounded lives for themselves long before they meet someone special. Alana definitely fits the bill here!
I would have liked to see more attention paid to a subplot involving conflict between Alana and another realtor. There was so much time spent building tension between them early on in the storyline that I was caught off-guard by how quickly the author tied everything up later on. The resolution made that early foreshadowing feel overdone to me. It would have been helpful if their mutual grudge had either not been given so much attention in the beginning or if they’d had more opportunities to address the problem later on.
The chemistry between Alana and Justin was perfect. I loved their lighthearted banter and how it revealed the many similarities they shared. They were both kind and loving people who often expressed their feelings for the people they cared about through the food they made for them. Many of their hobbies were compatible with each other as well which can also be a good sign when looking for a long term partner. The more I learned about both of them, the stronger I hoped they’d live happily ever after together.
Cookie Collision was a sweet and heartwarming read.
In this cute-meet Christmas novella, Ms. Deluca has crafted two very likable characters who connect by chance after Justin literally runs into Alana outside of the grocery store. Their chemistry is scary to Alana due to a previous disastrous relationship, but it doesn’t stop her from feeling the sparks and hoping Justin is the real deal. Things are going so perfectly—until she discovers a possibly fatal flaw which could derail their promising romance. “Cookie Collision” is a must read in the popular Christmas Cookies Series published by The Wild Rose Press—53 in all. Find a comfy chair, bring a cup of tea and enjoy this sweet treat of a book.
