Lindsey Acton knew she always wanted to be a school teacher, high school English. But she also knew she NEVER wanted to teach at her hometown high school. Still, there she was as a 23-year-old first-year teacher at her old school, and when a student dealing with mental issues started taking things too far, it was a lot for a young teacher to handle. This student put the school on red alert, and his death later that day sent this young teacher into a tailspin that took years to recover from, and years of her own therapy as well. This book deals with teacher trauma, and what we can learn from it to better prepare teachers in dealing with emotional and unstable students. It’s a powerful and emotional tale of a woman’s journey back to reclaiming her life.
This book was a very important story that needs to be told. Heartbreaking but yet filled with redemption and healing. Your students past, present, and future are very lucky to have you. Someone who’s dedicated to giving them your best, REAL, self day in and day out. As a mom I know it’s easy to feel like you fail your kids daily but I have no doubt your experiences in education have shaped you as a woman, wife, mom, Christian, and more- you’re pretty incredible. It’s really brave to put your story out there and be vulnerable, I’m proud to know you. ❤️
The book I didn’t know I needed. The exploration of mental health for teachers, personal and professional trauma, the experiences of being a young female teacher in a high school…so many important topics that need more exposure and attention. Thank you for this book, Lindsey.
