The Dark is here.

In the wake of the defeat of the Readers and the emergence of the Given from the Interland, Jay, Stitch and Cassie want nothing more than to return to a life free of oppression and fear.

Outside of their homeland, the power of the darkness rises to levels not seen before in the history of the powers, and when the evil grows to threaten their own shores once again, Jay must decide who she can trust and how to keep her friends safe from harm.

Will Jay alone summon the strength to defeat this new enemy, or will the fight be too much even for the most powerful of the Given?

Once again, darkness threatens the Islands of The Given. Only this time it is not only The Readers who bring the threat, but an ancient myth coming to reality. A true battle between good and evil; light versus dark. Determined to keep her family and friends safe, Jay believes she is the only hope of defeating The Dark. Will she have enough strength to destroy the darkness, or will the darkness destroy her?

In the third book of The Interland Series, The Dark, Gary Clark continues to exemplify his skill as a writer. His words paint an elaborate picture of a fantastical world. Plus, his attention to detail brings a story for all ages with no profanity and limited grammatical and spelling errors.

Yet, this tale was a little bit of a letdown. Unlike the previous books in the series, the story did not encompass the twists, turns, intrigue, and mystery. The narrative seemed to continue to repeat the same actions over and over with no results. This resulted in a slow-paced storyline, and a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

All in all, the third book of The Interland Series, should be seen as the transitional story from the distinctive battles of Island 8 to the loftier confrontations within all the Islands.

Thank you to #The Dark, #GaryClark, and #GCLBooks for the opportunity to read the advanced readers copy and give my honest review.

Thank you to Gary Clark for sending me an ARC of The Dark, the third book in the Interland series. Once again, it was a privilege to be asked, and I loved reading it and falling into the world of Given and Readers.

After the downfall of Readers, Jay, and her friends and family, are continuing with their lives and trying to get back to some sort of normality. Jay is working in Alf’s bookshop in a dedicated section on the top floor, which she is dedicated to the history of Given. Collecting books from all over the country, Jay has provided a wealth of information for anyone wanting to learn more.

But something isn’t right. Darkness appears to be just around the corner and Jay, Cassie, Stitch and their friends need a plan of action. They need to discover what is happening and work out how to fix it.

As with his previous books, The Given and Interland, Gary Clark has written a real page-turner with The Dark. Full of tension, thrills and nail-biting experiences, The Dark takes us on a whirlwind journey through countries, islands and varying powers as Jay and her friends attempt once more to take on their enemies. Meeting new friends along the way, anyone with Given powers is eager to help take on the leader of the Dark.

Clark highlights the lengths that some people will go to, to keep their friends safe, even if it means putting themselves in danger but with the ultimate goal of protecting everyone.

I would recommend The Dark for Young Adults and older. Lose yourself in another world, one where magic is paramount, but not everything will turn out as you expect! I really hope there is a 'next in the series'!

I hate to, but I give up

This will be my last read on this series. There’s so much lost potential between Jay and Stitch that the author could have made something great if he’d tapped more into that relationship. Maybe he will eventually but I can’t hang on any longer.

This third and final instalment in the Interland series was absolutely brilliant.
The characters seem to be so alive and it really feels as if you are on a journey with them.
I'd highly recommend this whole series to anyone who wants to read some top quality YA fiction with mystery, excitement, themes of friendship and belonging and hope.
