Billionaire Mitchell Saltonstall needs a fiancée, right now, and a pretend-fiancée is just fine with him.
One drunken New Year’s Eve, Mitchell and his buddies wagered a hundred mil each against Gabriel “The Shark” Fish that they were better at business than he was. Never, ever bet that kind of cash against a guy with a nickname like “The Shark.”
Mitchell tried to buy a golf course, but that fell through. He tried to buy a sports store, and that deal blew up in his face. Finally, he found a golf tee-times booking app that was floundering. He bought it from the original investors for pennies on the dollar and rechristened it “Match Play,” a dating service app for single golfers, assuring them that “It’s just golf!” and they can “Play A Round” with golfing singles in their area.
Oh, the puns are endless, but pictures of “giant knobby-headed drivers” are strictly forbidden.
The problem is that Mitchell accidentally became the face of Match Play in an interview, and no one will trust a dating app with a single CEO.
The very last person he should have conscripted to be his fake fiancée was Arielle Carter, the cute, sassy blond secretary in the front office, whom he’d literally grabbed around the waist during an interview and dragged against his side, whispering that he’d pay her ten thousand dollars to kiss him for the cameras.
He didn’t know she’d melt against him and her kiss would turn him on like stadium lights.
Or that with a makeover for the television commercials, Arielle Carter would become an absolute bombshell and he wouldn’t be able to take his eyes off of her.
And he really hadn’t known that Arielle’s father was the original investor who’d lost his life savings in the failing tee-times app, and that’s why she hates Mitchell’s guts.
During the months-long promotional tour to regional golf shows to sign up new singles, the air between them crackles with attraction, and their kisses and caresses seem more real. In Los Angeles, after a particularly convincing photo spread for Golf Journal, they discover that the five-star hotel room has only one bed.
They’re stuck together until next New Year’s Eve when the bet with The Shark ends, or Mitchell will lose everything he’s worked for.
Assuming Arielle doesn’t bean him with a golf club first.

Blair Babylon is the nom de plume of an award-winning, USA Today-bestselling author who used to publish literary fiction. Because professional reviews of her other fiction usually included the caveat that there was too much deviant sex and too much interesting plot, she decided to abandon all literary pretensions, let her freak flag fly, and write hot, sexy, erotic romance.
I confess, I wasn't sure how the author was going to make a second story, built on the same bet as the first, be different. I should, of course, know by now that I should not underestimate her storytelling prowess.
I love these two. More tension than i expected between them, but a great relationship dynamic, and with just the right amount of humour.
This is a light-hearted, fun read, and a great addition to my Kindle.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Golf books aren't really my type of book. However this one surprised me. Follow along as we meet one of the Le rossey graduates on a business venture of a life time. Mitchell the Match Saltonstall gets into a drunk New years wager only to find himself only to find himself playing for more than just a simple business wager. Can he convince the girl he loves it more than just business find out.

Newest book in the golf series, starring more hunky guys from the Le Rosey school. The interactions between Mitchell and his sister Emily, is the sunshine sugarplum, of this story. This is “Blair Light”, fell in “like” with Arielle, but Emily is the shining star. No worries, even in Blair Light land there is off the chart steam. Here is one of my laugh snorts: ”A poison pufferfish was bloating and farting inside his skull to the rhythm of his pulse.” lol. Only Blair thinks like this…lol. Grab this book and enjoy a sweet, hot read.
Match Play, book 2 of Blair Babylons Last Chance series. It’s so fun to watch this group of schoolmates as they try to win a bet all while accidentally falling in love. The stories are all crafted around the game of golf in one form or another. Match is trying to win the bet and help keep his friends from being bankrupted. It’s funny and sassy with a bunch of sneaky sexiness thrown in! Loved it!
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book. It’s been a while since I last read a book from Blair Babylon, and I won’t say I forgot how much I love her writing, but I’ll admit, I may have forgotten why. If I were the wordsmith that she is, I’d be able to explain why. Sadly, I am not.
If you’re unsure, I strongly suggest that you read the first couple of pages of this book because you will be hooked. It’s a lengthy description of Mitchell Saltonstall waking up in the morning and coming to terms with his colossal hangover. At one point, based on the available information, he decides it’s “unlikely he’d been set on fire last night.” Still, the description continues and it sounds horrendous. This may have been my favorite line: “A poison pufferfish was bloating and farting inside his skull to the rhythm of his pulse.” Truly, the first chapter of this book is a case study on “how to hook a reader.” Needless to say, I was hooked.
Naturally, there were some other great descriptions, but aside from the opening chapter, this may be my favorite because it’s so clear. “The veins on her father’s neck and the side of his face stood out, swollen like bluish vines had wrapped around his forearms, slid up his neck, pulsed over his temples, and bloomed into red tendrils in the whites of his eyes. His jaw bulged like he was chewing the vines invading his mouth.” The ‘her’ referred to is Arielle, Mitchell’s fake girlfriend. I like the fake girlfriend trope.
The story is told from third person POV in the past tense, switching between Mitchell and Arielle. What’s interesting is that we know how Mitchell feels as he begins to fall for Arielle, but Arielle’s thoughts are a bit more opaque. That’s because Arielle is so unsure of herself and so fearful of being hurt. Mitchell, on the other hand, is not fearful, but he is thoroughly confused.
At heart, Mitchell is a kind and considerate person, as demonstrated by how he interacts with his special needs sister Emily. Not surprisingly, he is particularly touched by how Arielle interacts with Emily too. Arielle is honest, almost to a fault, and the arrangement they have is killing her. By the time she realizes she can’t continue, she begs him to dissolve the agreement, but he won’t because he has simultaneously realized that he loves her and wants to be with her. She won’t break the contract because she needs to money, and he won’t because he’s afraid he won’t have an excuse to be around her anymore. Unfortunately, he has told Arielle so many times that this is a ‘business relationship,’ he’s afraid he has destroyed any chance of her loving him. It’s Emily who pushes him to take a chance. As she always says, “Love always wins.”
OhMiGOSH !!!! This book is the next in the crazy story of 4 best friends from the exclusive , high end boarding school of the very, very rich in Europe, Le Rosey . Jericho Parr had his story in UNDER PARR, and now it's Mitchell, " Match's" , story !! These 4 made an Outrageous bet on News Years Eve , that they absolutely MUST win ....or Else !! In Match's crazy tale, he must take a golf business and make it profitable. He can do this , but it has to be the Right kind of business. This particular business that he acquires has to do with golf tee times. But he takes the business and not only revamps it , but changes almost All of it !!!! Arielle is the daughter of the owner of said ( previous) business , and she is PISSED !!!!! Her father had that business and treated its employees like family , and Mitchell Saltonstall comes in and CHANGES EVERYTHING !!!!! No way is she going to allow some upper class nobody to come in and take her fathers life blood and throw it down the drain !!!! From the very beginning, these two are oil and water, and Arielle's truthful existence flexes, and stretches so far that she hardly knows what to do !! She and Mitchell are well "matched", and the fun has only just begun !!!! I thought that this was a fantastic, enjoyable read , and with all of the back and forth, and forth and back , this has been thoroughly entertaining !!! I love how much information is packed in here , and even though I do not play nor understand golf , I could follow it pretty well !! It was hilarious, and oh so seexxyy that I want my perfect match too !!!! 😄😄😄 Another winner, and I can hardly wait for the next books !!!
I really don’t know how Blair Babylon keeps turning out books in her world of billionaires and have them stay so fresh. I don’t think I’m ever going to get tired of reading her wonderfully crafted stories.
Match Play is HOT AF. 🔥🔥🔥 I’m not sure I’ve ever read an enemies-to-lovers romance with so much delicious heat. The detailed blurb is wonderful so I’m not going to regurgitate it here. I will say that I was really captivated by Arielle and Mitch. This story has a lot of meat to it and it’s not a short quick read. That just means I got to enjoy reading it for that much longer. 😊
I especially loved the relationship between Mitch and his special needs sister. Their use of pet names for each other was so silly at times that I wanted to LOL but at the same time it kind of brought tears to my eyes. He was so protective of Emily and it showed in every interaction he had with her in the story.
This book includes a few scenes with Mitch’s business partners, including Tiffany and Jericho from book one, Under Parr. Unlike some of her other series, I think Blair has written this book in such a way so that you don’t have to have read book one first. I do highly recommend reading it though, because it’s a great story.
Match Play comes to a satisfying conclusion for the hate-to-love romance between Arielle and Mitch but there is still something that won’t be resolved until the end of this series. I don’t consider this a hard cliffhanger like Blair sometimes writes but I am eager to read the next book in this series.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
Smoking Hot Millionaire and A Stickler For The Truth!😭💔😡💋💥💘😍 Steam Levels Are Fire.🔥🔥 Match Play
I was gifted an e-copy of this book without obligation. I thoroughly enjoyed most off it, which surprised me as I'd usually avoid anything to do with golf. I was very happy to discover that although the backdrops, settings etc are often golf related, there are no actual golf rounds played, nor is there terminology overload.😁
After a huge bet is made on new years eve, that's legally binding, Mitchell and his buddy's are all in and penniless if they can't win it. They each need to find a company, build it up financially, and then pray one of them earns more than which ever company 'the shark' has bought and turned around!🙏 Mitchell buys out a small app called 'Match Play' and turns it into a dating app for golfers. He also ropes in the ex-owners daughter as his 'Match' from the app!🙈 He convinces her to be his 'fake date' for nearly a year, for the good publicity and then he'll help her parents out financially and put the employees back on better contracts. she loves her parents and the employees, it kills her seeing what's happening to them while he cuts costs everywhere he can. So she begrudgingly agrees, and unfortunately their chemistry often gets the better of them!😉🔥
This was well written, but the actual storyline underpinning it felt a little flimsy! We never actually meet Arielle's parents, except for her Dads exit talk, and phone conversations with her Mum. Which seemed odd to me. I absolutely loved Emily and the relationships surrounding her.🌟
This series was intriguing from the start. The 4 owners of Last Chance Inc. are roped into a devastating bet on New Years Eve that could wipe them out financially! Each one has to take a failing business that deals with golf, in some way, and turn it into a very profitable business in a year. The catch is they can’t work with or help each other. Whomever loses pays the others $100 million dollars! If one of the owners wins then their business is safe. If the devious person behind this bet wins then they lose Last Chance.
This book deals with Mitchell “Match” Saltonstall, one of the owners of Last Chance. He finds a business that just might win this for him. Unfortunately for Arielle Carter, its her Dads failing business he has his eye on! Right from the start sparks fly! These two are so different on every level but a misunderstanding leads them to having to spend a lot of time together and thats not good, or is it?
I absolutely loved this book! Blair Babylon is the queen of the series. Her attention to detail and ability to take a storyline and turn it into a page turning, edge of your seat, chemistry laden event, is why she’s one of my favourite authors. Mitchell and Arielle are attracted to each other from the beginning, but will their differences and goals end this before it even begins? This book pulled me in right from the start and spit me out on the other end, feeling punch drunk and wondering what just happened?! Did not see any of it coming and it was fantastic! Grab this book and start reading it today. You won’t be disappointed!

One drunken New Years Eve, Mitchell and 3 of his buddies wagered a hundred million each that they were better at business than Gabriel Fish. Mitchell purchased a failing tee-times booking app and rechristened it Match Play. Together with the help of his fake girlfriend Arielle, the previous owners daughter, they will do all it takes to win the bet. Neither Mitchell, nor Arielle had bet on falling in love. (Maybe they should have!)
Okay, first off I will say, although this is a golf sport romance, it is based around the sport itself. This means you do not have to know about golf to read and follow the story. This I found quite refreshing as NFL or NHL are the more common sport romance tropes. At the beginning of the book, I did not like Mitchells character. Arielle, I took to heart straight away but found myself frustrated with her inability to accept her fathers mistakes in business. As the book progressed, I found myself willing the couple on, hoping they would open up to each other and admit their feelings. I also loved the introduction of Emily, Mitchells sister. Her character was written in such a kind and respectful way.
By the end of the story, I was left wondering what happened to the relationship between Arielle and her parents. Maybe a future epilogue will let us know how their relationship progressed. I look forward to book 3 in the Last Chance, Inc series, Skins Game.
I read Mitchell and Arielle's story in one weekend, in typical Blair Babylon style we have an Alpha male who is used to getting his own way, I mean the way he took over Arielles fathers business and then his absurd pact with her... I knew there was going to be some shenanigans flying between the two. And Arielle was stuck between loyalty to her parents and the intense attraction to Match.
The story starts with Match (Mitchell), and his three friends/ business partners, making a stupid New Year's bet, they could lose all they have built and that is not an option for any of the guys, but Match is the one who feels it's his responsibility to pull them out the mess.
My favourite character in the book was a side character - Match's little sister Emily, who has Downs, she was not made into a sad character either, and the banter between the brothers and their sister was cute, the inclusion of Emily made the story that much more enjoyable.
Blair is one of my favorite authors. Her books never disappoint when you want to be taken out of reality and into a world of money, high stakes, and romance that wasn't expected.
This is my honest review, and I thank the author for letting me read the book
This second book of the Last Chance series was a pretty good read. In this addition, we meet Mitchell and Arielle and get one heck of a ride in their journey to their HEA.
Mitchell, after drinking too much for New Years finds himself in a bet that could financially ruin him and his friends. He purchases a golf app as his venture for the bet and turns it into a dating app. While promoting the app, things change for Mitchell and he makes some difficult choices.
Arielle, daughter of the former owner of Match Play gets pulled into a fake relationship with Mitchell. She agrees to deceive those close to her but as time goes on and her feelings for Mitchell grow the ruse is harder to keep up as her personal relationships also take a hit.
This book was a pretty good read. I liked the chemistry between the characters and Mitchell's relationship with his developmentally disabled sister. I enjoyed their Mitchell and Arielle's interactions as the tension between the characters was palpable. At times, I thought that the story did drag a bit and I thought that the ending felt rushed but over all it as a good read that I would recommend to others.
Mitchell and Arielle's story was a great read, from the way they met while Mitchell announced the purchase of the business to the employees, to the way they HAD to interact with each other for the press, as well as how they interacted when they were alone. One minute she hated him, and the next they needed to "practice". Mitchell, and three of his friends, made a stupid New Year's bet that could cost them all everything they have worked so hard to achieve for all of their adult lives. Mitchell feels he's the only one who can save them, so it makes him all the more determined to turn the business around. I believe adding the character of Emily (Mitchell's little sister) was genius! The story was great on its own, but adding Emily, who has Down's Syndrome, made it that much more enjoyable. Her bubbly character, along with all of the adorable nicknames that they called each other, made the story that much more enjoyable. I can't wait to read the next book in the series! Blair is one of my favorite authors. Her books never disappoint! I received and ARC for an honest review, but also purchased the book.
A great enemies to lovers story between Mitchell "Match" Saltonstall and Arielle Carter! With work place atmosphere, forced proximity, and an iron-clad contract that needs to be fulfilled there's a little bit of everything in this fake dating story as Mitchell and Arielle fly around the country to promote Match Play dating app and the line between business and pleasure gets blurred.
After a somewhat savage and hostile takeover of her father's company Match Play, Mitchell has come into Phoenix with a tall order to turn around the failing golf related tee-time app in a short 9 months or so. Forced into lying to all her friends, co-workers and even her parents, Arielle's end goal is only one thing, to make sure her parent's retirement is secure after what seems like Mitchell swindled Franklin Carter out of his dream job. With reporters trying to get the real scoop, Mitchell's sister eagerly opportunistic attitude and desire to help there's so much to navigate while trying to best The Shark by next New Year's Eve.
This is the new sports series from Blair Babylon that we've been waiting for featuring four school friends who somehow find themselves in a battle to save their company as well as their futures after a drunken night of partying led to a crazy bet with their enemy the Shark. Mitchell buys Arielle's father's golf match app and he turns it into a dating app meanwhile Arielle's father lost everything and she blames Mitchell for it she didn't even know that her father sold the app it was his dream. Mitchell's sister Emily has Downs Syndrome and she keeps him on his toes she also tries to get Arielle and Mitchell to see that they need to work together. The hijinks abound in this book and you will definitely find yourself laughing at what they get up to. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this charming sports rom-com to see what happens. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
Lots of angsty stuff in the book, and Mitchell’s heartlessness towards his employees is not addressed or resolved. Steam heat is high in this story, but the relationship drama at times is tiring. I am not sure how healthy their ‘hate f*cking’ relationship is, as the Heroine at times feels addicted and disempowered, and this might be a red flag that triggers some Readers. I was amused this lighter series crosses over with Blair’s other series re: students from Le Rosy Boarding School and the Heroine does get all the sardonic funny lines. Loved Mitchell’s sister Emily and how easily Arielle was accepted into his family. However, the final outcome with her family is not known and the Reader is left hanging. They eventually get their happy ending, and their final declarations are lovely and heartfelt, but the journey was torturous and at times unsatisfying and uncomfortable. Final Rating: 3 stars

Of the four friends and business partners in the venture capital firm, Last Chance Inc., Mitchell Saltonstall is the most ruthless of the bunch. Naturally, he’s their best hope to win that outlandish bet against Gabriel, aka ‘The Shark’ – their arch-nemesis from their Swiss boarding school days. It’s too bad then, that Arielle Carter (the one person Mitchell needs most to help him win), hates his guts with a passion.
I enjoyed this well written, fake relationship, golf-themed romance. There’s plenty of drama and angst, some humour, intense chemistry and several steamy, explicit encounters. I loved Mitchell’s sister Emily and her wonderful outlook on life! She was simply adorable!
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loving this golf-themed series by Blair Babylon. Four friends find themselves fighting to save their company and future after a drunken night left them placing a foolish bet with the Shark. In this installment we have Mitchell who takes over a golf match app and turns it into a dating app. The problem? Arielle’s father lost his dream (and his life savings) when his app was failing. She blames Mitchell for her father’s loss, and then all the changes he’s pushing through to ensure he wins the bet and saves them all. What neither expected was for their fake relationship to turn real. Unfortunately we have to wait for the other friends to find their own golf ventures to turn around before we learn who wins. The wait will surely be worth it as Blair Babylon weaves more entertaining tales.
Match Play is book 2 in the Last Chance Inc. series. The series follows four friends who made a crazy bet with an associate and the stakes are high. This is Mitchell and Arielle's story. Mitchell purchases Arielle's father's company and big changes put these two at odds. They agree to a fake relationship for mutual benefit. They push and pull and sometimes argue for the sake of arguing. Match Play is a fun read that I really enjoyed. Great characters! I loved Mitchell's sister and the descriptions of how their mom is a Champion for her so much! Great writing ! Excited for book 3. I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.
Book: Match Play Author: Blair Babylon My Rating: 5 Stars Reviewed by: Tammy - Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW Mitchell gets his story...He must make a business profitable... When a bet and a female enter the equation it's like Fire and Water! It won't be easy for him, no one likes change but changes he must make. His fake fiance Arielle isn't going to make it easy for him but... I have to say I totally enjoyed this story... Sassy, Funny, and very well written. Can't wait to see who falls next.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
Ooo boy! A drunken ( and forgotten?) bet made on New Year's eve. And unless one of them beats the shark? They'll lose it all. Mitchell acquired the app Match Play and changed it from a tee time app to a dating app. But what's a dating app if the owner is single? When he picks Arielle from the crowd, at the 1st press conference to kiss, he had no idea that she was the daughter of the previous owner. And she considered Mitchell the enemy. But when he has her under contract as his fake girlfriend, the sparks are gonna fly. But is it fake or not? Enemies to lovers? The sky's the limit. And with Blair Babylin, you know there's a great story- sexy, funny, simply fabulous!
A drunken bet on New Year's Eve with The Shark has sent four best friends on an unbelievable journey; they must purchase a golf-related venture and turn it around, or risk losing $100 million apiece. While Match's friend Jericho Parr did the reasonable thing and bought a community golf course, Match buys a failing tee-time golf app and reinvents it as a golf-related dating app. One thing leads to another and to a dating charade between Match and the former owner's daughter. Like Under Parr, Match Play is LOL funny with romance sprinkled throughout.
Another great read from author Blair Babylon! Matchplay is the second book in the Last Chance Inc. series. Mitchell Saltonstall was part of a four way drunken bet that will bankrupt him and his friends if they lose. This is the story of his attempt to turn a failed tee time app into a golf dating app with the help of Arielle, the previous owner’s daughter. Love/hate dynamics, family vs business, profits over friends and lies and truths make this a great story, an emotional roller coaster and a must read! Can’t wait for the next book!
Wow Wow Wow This series of books is just amazing, and Match play is breathtaking. Arielle and Mitchell have blown the fake relationship trope out of the water. But it just wasn’t fair that Arielle blamed Mitch for her fathers poor business decisions. I couldn’t put this book down, I enjoyed it so much and just couldn’t wait to find out how it ended. I keep thinking there is going to have to be a huge twist with the bet when the final story is revealed and I am seriously eager to read more!
Match Play was so much fun to read! Talk about steamy!!! Mitchell and Arielle have some serious chemistry! The thing with her parents…I’m glad Mitchell noticed. I’m really worried that “The Shark” will figure out some way to win the bet. There was a thing that happened at one of the conventions that has me concerned. I’m ready for the next book, Skins Game!! I highly recommend this book and series!
I enjoyed reading Mitchell and Arielle story. Loved the ending of th truth winning over lies. I'm excited to see the next story in the Last Chance series. I would have wished to know more of Arielle's family and have closure for them since it seemed they were so close from the first chapter. I love that Mitchell has such a sweet relationship with his sister but I just felt so many different nicknames were a bit much.
Another great read in the golf series by Blair. She has done it again with the schoolmates of Le Rosey. She just keeps putting out stories that can’t be put down till finished. This is the second book in the crazy bet that they created on New Year’s Eve. Mitchell has bought a fledgling golf tee starting app and turned it into a dating app. He sets up a business contract with Arielle to be his fake girlfriend. She really doesn’t like his deception but does it because she is helping her father who has lost his retirement of his dream. I can’t wait till Skins Game is complete.
Ooooh this book was so good! Book three in this series, I found myself needing to see how it was going to turn out. Mitchell and Arielle’s connection and the reason they met, you could tell there would be lots of fireworks. As they spent time together working on the project, I enjoyed their conversations and watching as they started to fall for each other. I am looking forward to the next book in this series as I need to see what happens from here
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The hi-jinks, the true to life friends and the absolutely magnificent portrayal of both Match's & Arielle's family dynamics. This pre-retiree would love to play on the links anytime with a silver Match Play ;) . This one will go on my keeper bookshelf :) .
I could not put this down and cannot wait to see who will be next in the Last Chance to get their HEA. I laughed, cried and was on the edge of my seat throughout to see how Mitchell and Arielle worked things out and how to find true love in the end. I would love to find out what happens between Arielle and her parents in the end.
