The tide of galactic war turns – but in whose favor?
The Coalition Defense Force is putting the hurt on the League of Sol. Despite the League’s superior numbers, Captain Justin Spencer and his fighter squadron return victorious after each enemy engagement.
But it’s only the calm before the storm.
The Eire system’s loss in the early days of war was a bitter pill for the Terran Coalition. Now the Coalition is pulling out all the stops to rescue her citizens from the hands of a repressive regime bent on domination at any cost.
But the enemy is cunning. When the CDF presses what they think is an advantage, the League’s strategy becomes painfully clear: they’ve been lured into a trap. As missiles fly and staggering losses mount, Justin and the CSV Zvika Greengoldare embroiled in the dogfight of their lives.
This series started of quite well but then it walked way too far down the path of political bullshit and machinations.
The writing is overall very good. The military part, the space battles and the tactics, the characters, all of that is still very well written just like in the first books which got four star ratings from me. As I wrote the (main) issue that I have is that the series is going further and further down the path of bullshit politics.
The political machinations themselves, whether it is politicians or politically appointed Admirals, are annoying and frustrating enough for the book to loose a couple of stars. However when it goes so far that Admirals deliberately sacrifices people to put on a show and make a point with the dumbass politicians it is really going way too far.
In addition the way the CDF was lured into a trap was a bit uninspired and just way too easy. In addition, the treatment of our hero at the end of the book, due to the political bullshit of course, was really the final straw.
The main reason the book is getting the rating it’s getting from me, and not an even lower one, is that, as I wrote, the book is quite well written and the battles and characters are still very good.
All the action, drama and emotion of David Weber's Harringtonverse with this author's signature appreciation of faith and the human heart combine in what I consider to be not the end of a series but a significant pause in the start of this author's portrayal of a long drawn-out hot war. I wondered what would finally push Justin Spencer to take the first step towards the presidency of the Terran Confederation - now I know, and I can now understand more fully the premise behind Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" (the book, not the movie). This is what it means to serve. Thank you to the author for making this clearer to me.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Justin Spence is a reserve pilot with the Navy on a routine training mission. When the League of Sol attacks! Thus begins a series of a free nation of Terrain against The Communist League of Sol. A war that grinds on for decades. A wonderful cast of characters that will warm your heart, and break it with the tragedy of war in the void. See the characters searching for something to ease the pain and suffering of nonstop combat and coming up short. Daniel Gibbs is gifted Author who blends in combat without being over the top and can Still keep Faith of all the folks that make this such a wonderful SERIES! Plus keeps GOD at the top no matter what name you call him by!
Final Flight is Book 6 in the Battlegroup Z by Daniel Gibbs. I am sad that this is the last book in this series, but, book 6 was amazing! There is a little more political threads, but Captain Spencer and his team fight to rescue the citizens on Eire. Daniel Gibbs always writes the most exciting and realistic battle scenes that I have ever read. Sometimes I can't read fast enough to see what is going to happen. I don't want to spoil the book, but death is not a friend during war. The ending was perfect and I am excited to read the next adventure. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
9Stars needed Battlegroup Z goes to war with the League of Son’s biggest battle group
Battlegroup Z is put on convoy duty. They finally get to fight the League but not at the front but as bodyguard to the fleet bringing all the things needed to support a war. And of course doing it short handed as per normal. They had no idea the largest battlegroup the league has is waiting for them the only thing they can do is send for help and do their best to hold on, pray, and watch friends and strangers die and die.
The above title means a score of at least 80%! I'd give it more but for the authors style with religion. Obviously it works for many and truthfully, it's very good reading and does skillfully blend in a Sunday School type feeling along with a very good story. Obviously the author has computer modelling skills as the story telling of space battles shows three Dee skills. Enjoy!
Daniel ties a couple of the threads together giving us a nice look into his universe! Well done Daniel! The story lines join up nicely between series and was a joy to read. Thank you also for giving us something to read that is not filled with courseness and cursing! It is so refreshing to read!!
I've already read echoes of war. I was shocked when I realized the coalition president was the hero in battlegroup z. All the loose ends were tied up expertly. This entire series was one that I will read again. I have a better understanding now of echoes of war and I will re-read that series also. No one should miss this tale.
I just finished reading this series and have already bought the next series. If it is as good as the first I hope all the books are available. The first series is an outstanding read with plenty of action and science fiction the author makes you feel like your part of the story and keeps you totally interested from the first book to the last.
The only time I've read a book were earth is in a fight that I was hoping Earth lost. Earth ruled by Communism is trying to force everyone within flight distance into their way of thinking. Brainwashed or threatened people fight because the rulers force them to. Brave men and women stand between them and the free people of the Universe. Can't put down. Good Read.
This book was good it had plenty of battles in it and both sides took some bad losses. Justin has given up flying to go into politics and has advanced pretty quick up to becoming the president . So now we move to the next series to see what kind of changes he can make to see if they can straight out win this war . On to the next series.
This was a satisfying conclusion to the first book in the series. As action packed as the rest of the books in the series, it doesn't leave you hanging. Feeling like it was unfinished.
Excellent finish to the six book book series. Captain Justin Spencer and the pilots of the Greengold give there all and some pay the ultimate price to turn back the League. Great read from start to finish.
While mainly about Navy pilots us Marines did get I to the fight. I would have loved to read about ground war. But alas not now. I see so much of the possibility in the actions of the communist left at work in our country today that these books may well prophetic .
An excellent ending to a great series. You know what becomes of everyone. The best part is maybe the adventure continues. I really enjoyed these books.
