I was kinda excited since this was single dad, but it sort of let me down. The first few chapters were repetitive and boring. We get it you have a teenage daughter and she likes to go the mall and go shopping. Towards 60% it started to pick up and Avery's relationship with Ellie was really sweet and cute to see. Ryker is a hot hockey dad and I loved everything about him. But on the other hand... Ms. Avery, there was like nothing too special about her. In books you normally root for the fmc but I just found her boring and she had no personality. There was no big conflict or whatsoever, they just seemed to magically fall in love. I would have loved to see their relationship develop a bit more. All she seemed to do was work, spend time with her dog and hangout with Ellie. But that changed once her and Ryker started to date. Overall a cute sports romance, and I'm actually looking forward to read Aidan and Tori's story in October!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: Single dad, neighbor Angst: 😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥
Ryker is a super sweet, single dad hockey romance, but it really just didn't work for me. The beginning felt pretty slow, we had a lot of "day in the life" scenes that took up lots of space that I really didn't feel were relevant to the overall storyline. I also didn't really feel any chemistry between the two main characters. Not a whole lot of indication of attraction before they just dive in, despite meeting and bumping into each other several times. There was also literally no conflict in the book. Not between the two MCs, not between anyone. I'm actually a fan of a reprieve of the typical "incident at 80%", but there's got to be sooooomething to string us along and keep us hooked, even if it's just external of the relationship itself. Overall, it was really just a cute and sweet romance, but maybe just too sweet for me 🤷🏻♀️.
This was my first “Blind Date with a Book” and it was really fun! This book is all about the steam. Outside of that, it was the perfect fantasy life for the FMC to be living next to a professional hockey player and he has the perfect daughter, etc. No drama, no plot 😂
Here’s how this book was labeled: 🏒Sports Romance 🧍🏽♀️Woman next door 🔥Spicy 🧍♂️Single Dad 😩Angsty
3.5stars--RYKER is the first instalment in Samantha Lind’s contemporary, adult SAN FRANCISCO SHOCKWAVES erotic, hockey romance series. This is San Francisco Shockwaves team captain Ryker Jorgensen, and Avery Reid’s story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Ryker and Avery) RYKER follows the building romance and relationship between San Francisco Shockwaves team captain Ryker Jorgensen, and Avery Reid. Ryker Jorgensen is hoping to get traded to the San Francisco Shockwaves, the new expansion team, placing him closer to his fifteen year old daughter but Ryker never expected to fall in love with his sexy new neighbor, a woman who has stolen his heart, and his daughter’s as well. Enter Avery Reid. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Avery and Ryker, as our couple navigate a life in which Ryker spends quite a bit of time on the road.
The relationship between Ryker and Avery is one of immediate attraction. Condo neighbors who find themselves falling for one another as the hockey season progresses. Ryker’s daughter Ellie is fifteen years old, and Avery has volunteered to ensure Ellie is looked after while her father is on the road. As Avery and Ryker’s relationship becomes more serious, Ryker is considering a permanent future with our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Avery’s best friend Tori; Ryker’s daughter Ellie, as well as several members of the San Francisco Shockwaves including center Aiden Fox. Aiden and Tori’s story line is next.
RYKER is a story of family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is heart warming and engaging-there is absolutely no conflict, no hardships to overcome, no outside interference or threats. The characters are energetic and dynamic but their development is limited due to the lack of any struggle; the romance is seductive and energetic.
4.5 Stars for Ryker (San Francisco Shockwaves #1) What a great start to the new hockey series from Samantha Lind and if single dad Ryker and Avery’s story is anything to go by, this will certainly be another hit series for this very talented author. Ryker has finally got himself traded to the same city as his teenage daughter but as quickly as he moves in his ex is looking to move to another state but his daughter is old enough to pick who she lives with and it’s the town she loves that wins and that means moving in with her dad. Ryker buys a condo to start their life together and that where he meets Avery his new neighbour and from the moment these two meet you feel the attraction. As his friendship forms with Avery so does a bond between his daughter and his new neighbour but life as a hockey layer doesn’t make relationships easy and when he finds himself looking for someone to watch Ellie while he is on the road it’s Avery who steps up so could there be a future for Ryker and Avery……read the book to find that out. I loved this book, I fell hard and fast for Ryker, I adored Avery but it was the relationship Ellie had with her father that took this book to another level. I really can’t wait to see where we are taken next with the San Francisco Shockwaves next.
We really enjoyed this story, it was super sweet and had enjoyable characters. Neighbors that have a connection and a daughter who is match making.
Loved the fact that Ryker was the kind of Dad who puts Ellie first and wants to make up for lost time with her. Loved how all his decisions are based on her welfare and needs and that he includes her in those decisions. We loved Ryker's personality, thought he was so down to earth, caring and loving and just an all around nice guy. The same could be said for Avery, she had all those traits also. Ellie, she was just a doll, and Ryker did hit the kid lottery with her for sure.
Loved how the super sweet romance progressed and that Avery and Ryker made the perfect couple. Not much fan fare to speak of, just a slow burn romance that turned into finding your one an only when you weren't even looking. I loved getting to know these characters, they were a fun bunch to read about and all so loveable.
A new hockey series! Single dad Ryker, his teenage daughter Ellie, and neighbor Avery are the first story in this promising new series. I immediately fell in love with Ryker, his job has made seeing his daughter hard, but he always puts her first. Proximity and travel due to his career have put some distance between them. However, all is about to change as he is part of a new expansion team close to his daughter.
Avery works at home and is happy with her situation and buddy Max, her dog. She is getting a new neighbor, and he is easy on the eyes. Avery and Ellie bond, and she offers to help watch her while Ryker is on the road. What starts as a slow burn between Avery and Ryker accelerates quickly once they decide to give in to their feelings and others’ meddling.
We are now set up with the Team Captain of the Shockwaves. Bring on the next teammate, Aiden.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This wasn't a bad book per say, I just wasn't really invested in it. Both Ryker and Averys characters were very surface level, but that was it. I didn't feel a connection between them at all.. they were just kind of there. Plus I felt it was very repetitive, especially in the beginning.
Overall it was OK, just not for me.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
It has been a while since I have read a Sanantha Lind hockey story, so it was great to come to a new series,
We have moved from Indianapolis to San Francisco, so we have a whole new set of hockey guys to fall in love with.
Ryker is a very low angst, no drama story. And whilst I liked that, it was also a lot of ... nothing. Nothing happens to get the heart thumping. I was looking for a little something more with the single dad thing (I love a single dad story).
I liked getting to know Ryker, and the way his relationship with his his daughter grows.
And nothing against the falling for the next door neighbour thing, but to me there was nothing about Avery that stood out. I needed to know more about her. All I go was she walks her dog a lot! I did like her relationship with Ryker's daughter though.
I know there is a lot of setting up to do with the first in a series, so I will be reading more of these books in the future. This one just fell a bit flat for me.
So single parent stories are always my kryptonite. And when I saw this one I immediately wanted to read it… However
Ryker is a hockey star and has finally landed his dream team. Moving back to California to be closer to his daughter. So everything was great. New Team and being closer to his daughter. Then it got even better when his ex got a new job and his daughter decided to stay with him. Now his moving into a new condo, and his only issue was having someone to take care of his daughter while he is way on games.
Avery is a work from home girl. She has everything she needs at home and her dog Max. Taking him on long walks is basically the only thing she does for fun. Then Ryker and his daughter Ellie moves in and things just got interesting for her.
And that is basically it. There was nothing that stood out for me in this story. It seems like everything was going amazing for Ryker. No problems, no issues. His daughter was the sweetest most understanding teenager ever. There was no drama with the ex. He met Avery, they connected, started dating and lived happily ever after. I think that I like my romance story with a little drama, a bit of a struggle. It seems these were just too happy, lol. For people who just started dating, a boyfriend who was gone a lot, a teenager daughter in the mix, everything was amazing. I enjoyed the story, but definitely wanted something to keep me entertained. I will try the next one in the series, hopefully there will be a bit more drama, as Tori (Avery’s best friend) seems like a bit of wild one 😊
I had been waiting for Ryker's story. He had caught my attention at the end of the Indianapolis Eagles series, and I quickly marked this book down as one I had to read.
Over all I liked the romance between Avery and Ryker. These neighbors turned lovers had me smiling quite a few times. The relationship between Avery and Ellie really drew me in. They formed a bond early on, and Ellie could see what her dad couldn't.
As the story progressed, I found myself waiting for the drama to happen. There were a couple of times when I thought it would happen, but then nothing. I think I've finally realized that the author just doesn't write those scenes into her books. So I should stop looking for it! Especially since I've read a few books by Samantha Lind.
All in all the story was good. Yes I wanted more from the characters. Yes I wanted the dramatic moment for the couple. At the same time, I just really like Ryker. He drew me in, and I was happy to see him find his happily ever after.
Will I continue with the series? That I'm not certain about. I didn't feel a pull to any of the other teammates. I don't have that connection. So time will tell.
4 Star review of Ryker (San Francisco Shockwaves #1) by Samantha Lind I was excited when I heard that Samantha Lind had a new series releasing and if Ryker is anything to go by then she has a winning series on her hand. From the first chapter I was drawn to the story Ms.Lind wove about Ryker and Avery. I love single parent stories so this book was right up my alley. I loved the relationship that Ryker had with his daughter Ellie and the relationship that Avery forged with her was heart warming. Ryker is thrilled to have been traded to the same city where his teenage daughter Ellie lives. And even more when she derides that she wants to move in with him rather than move to another state with her mother. Meeting their new next door neighbour Avery. The attraction between them is immediate and it was entertaining to watch their relationship develop. I loved this couple, they are easy to relate to and I found myself smiling throughout. This was a wonderful read and I am excited to see what Ms.Lind has in store for the series.
Ryker has worked hard to get traded to a California hockey team so he could be closer to his daughter. When he moves into his new condo with his daughter they meet their new neighbor Avery. This was a neighbor to friends to lovers to HEA kind of book. I enjoyed the relationships built by Ryker, Avery and Ellie over the following months. This was sweet, fun and steamy to read. Excited to for the next couple in the series.
This was a heartwarming, no drama-filled romance with a sexy single dad. I liked Ryker and Avery and it was refreshing to see a story with not a lot of drama nor anything over the top. Avery is your normal girl-next-door and loved how the relationship developed between her Ryker and his daughter.
This is my first Samantha Lind book and most definitely will not be my last. These two were so cute. I have such a soft spot for single fathers. Very low on drama. Such a sweet tale.
Insta- love is comic relief for me!! 😂 Cute story. No substance. A lot unnecessary info. Smut was decent. I’m just giving it a 3 because the neighbors + hockey romance + single dad tropes were cute.
This book is sunshine/sunshine trope lol. MMC is a total cinnamon roll and FMC is sweetheart. There is no conflict and it is just a sweet slow burn love story. Perfect read for a palate cleanse. I would have liked a little more backstory on Ellie’s mom. This was my first Samantha Lind book so I don’t know if I should expect no conflict in all her writing or not. From the teaser in the epilogue I feel like the next book may have some or maybe even have some angst.
This book jumped from one scene to the next in one sentence so often it felt as if time moved extremely fast! One moment Ryker is about the jump in the shower to head to the mall, but the next sentence begins with them having been in three stores and almost "buying out the entire mall." Or, one sentence they're getting on a plane for a trip and the a couple of sentences later he's back home and we have no details of the trip because we last left off with them entering the plane.
It seemed as if details were left out but unnecessary or random dialogue was kept in.
Honestly, I felt the main characters were boring and too "oh shucks, goodie goodie"for me and all of their personalities seemed to be the same.

The plot is weak, the writing could be better (a bit too fairytaly to my liking).
So many dialogues are so not necessary and personally, I wouldn’t even react/talk like that while speaking and getting to know a new neighbour.
The timeline is weird : they know each other for 2ish month, go on a prolonged weekend first date and like 1 week later, they’re bf/gf. Then you fast forward to two months later and the next chapter is 4 months later with nothing extraordinary happening during the one chapter splitting that and after 6 months dating BOOM : wedding proposal.
It’s like a bad-ish first Wattpad draft, in my humble opinion. Though I do believe the author has room to improve and write better books.

Got bored. Quit halfway through. I stopped reading a couple of days ago and couldn't even tell you anything about the plot because I have already forgotten. The guy on the cover has a hockey stick... so there was probably a hockey player. Or maybe a coach. 🤷♀️
This book was awful. The writing was brutally boring. The author added all these stupid random details that no one wants to know about. Was it filler? Did she need to increase the word count? The characters had zero chemistry. I should have just not bothered.
Wow this book sucked so much??? The author goes into heavy detail about the smallest things such as the dog “emptying his bladder and bowels” while leaving the characterization of Ryker and Avery null. They have the personalities of stale white bread.
In Ryker, the first book in the San Francisco Shockwaves Series, Lind delivers a sweet and short sports romance that will leave you wanting for more.
For Ryker Jorgensen, not being able to be close to his daughter has made it difficult to see her as much as he can due to his career. Having signed a multi-year contract with the Indianapolis Eagles didn’t protect him from the new expansion draft. He only hopes to get picked up by another team and that’s exactly what happens. The San Francisco Shockwaves have picked Ryker as the first official member of the team. With that is relocating to California where he’ll be able to be close to his daughter and hopefully settle down. While there are new changes coming his way, Ryker wasn’t expecting to meet the gorgeous neighbor next door. Avery has a down to earth personality and the fact that she gets along with his daughter is also a plus. So when things start to evolve between them, he has to decide if he is willing to give them a chance to pursue a possible future together.
I enjoyed reading Ryker, the chemistry between the characters is sizzling from the very beginning. Their attraction for each other is instant and so is their relationship. Avery is kind, supportive and also happens to enjoy spending time with Ryker’s daughter. He wasn’t expecting to bond with her right away, but he wouldn’t have it other way. I wish the author could have expanded on some details, but it truly works out at the end. There is no conflict in the story and you get a sweet ending. I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a short read that’s steamy and romantic.

Hockey romances seem to be all the rage right now! Scanning the shelves there's numerous series to choose from, books offering something for everyone. it's hard to make a place for something new though, which is how I felt about this book. Much about it was familiar with a storyline that got straight to the point without any real obstacles putting the main couple's future in doubt.
Ryker Jorgensen has just been traded to the San Francisco Shockwaves as the new Captain of their team. It's a dream come true, as is taking over as caregiver to his teenage daughter Ellie. Upon moving into his new home he meets his enticing neighbor...with sparks resulting. He's drawn to Avery from the very start in a steamy connection that builds with each turn of the page. Ryker's an appealing single dad, one who exudes sexy vibes and a loving heart. His actions make him a drool-worthy hero who's a beautiful balance to Avery.
Avery Reid's an immensely appealing heroine, smart and sassy, who works from home which makes her the perfect chaperone to the young Ellie. Theirs is a heartwarming pairing, one with a familial vibe that made for some very endearing moments. Meanwhile, the romance between Ryker and Avery seemed to be on the back burner as he was often on the road. What readers did get to see though, with Ryker juggling his hockey career with his personal life, was a sweet and sexy story between a couple that was easy to relate to while they created a new family.
This was an easy read with sweet and sensual intimacy between strong and secure adults as well as loving interactions between parent and child. Getting to see glimpses of the other Shockwaves also made for many temptations and excitement for the future as I look forward to other players taking center ice. On a whole this was an enjoyable read, familiar but well-crafted.
#ryker is the first book in the new spin-off series by @samanthalindauthor
Ryker is known as for his title as professional hockey player who’s been traded to a new expansion team. But his proudest achievement is his teenaged daughter. Now that he’s finally able to be with her full time, the seasons going to start and more changes are coming. Since moving in he’s befriended the girl next door. As they get closer, she also gets closer to his daughter. They fall into a comfortable routine together, until things take a turn for some steamy fun. Can he balance hockey, his daughter and a potential relationship or are his priorities going to need to be sorted out?
Avery is a young and sassy woman who works from home with her dog. When new neighbors moves in, she greets them warmly with a sweet treat. They all become friends and her hunky neighbor’s daughter hangs out with her while he’s away they form a bond that is easy and fun. Can she keep it platonic with this new guy for the sake of his daughter or is she unable to avoid the pull towards him with a helpful push from the teenager?
I read half of the previous series that this is a spin off from and liked it. It’s hard for me to not like a hockey romance book. This one was fun, steamy, and had sassy women. I loved the main characters as well as the side ones. Ryker was what everyone wants in a partner, but Ellie was also so lucky to have him as a dad. Avery was calm but could put that man in his place. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This book was okay for a light read. I love hockey books, but found this one lacking. There was no meat to it unfortunately. It started off pretty slow with the FMC Avery and her dog Max meeting her new neighbours Ryker (the MMC) and his teen daughter Ellie. Ellie's mom (Ryker's ex) is moving for a job and Ellie moves in with her Dad. Avery and Ryker strike up a friendship and since Avery works at home, she offers to watch Ellie while Ryker is away for games. They go on one date and sleep together and then it just jumps to a committed relationship from there. Insta-love. There's no drama, no issues or arguments and they agree on everything. Even his daughter is problem-free. He kept giving her his credit card and telling her to buy whatever she wanted, which seemed unrealistic. Who the hell gives a 15 year old a limitless credit card? I found myself skimming or skipping paragraphs, then pages. A lot of it was redundant and boring. No, we don't need a page and a half on Avery taking her dog to use the washroom and details in what her dog did. I don't need to know the MC woke up, the details about the shower and how he dressed, what he ate for breakfast, etc. It reminded me of when people try to stretch out essays in school by adding extra info that no one cares about. In summary, if you're looking for excitement, this isn't it. It's not bad at all, just not good. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing does. Pretty dull. Hope the next one is better!

Ryker, San Francisco Shockwave Book 1 by Samantha Lind, Narration by James Cavenaugh and Aria Holland I purchased this audiobook. I want to start by saying that the narration was great. I enjoyed both James and Aria’s Voiced during the story. They both did a great job voicing the characters for the story. I am a huge fan of Samantha’s stories. She does a great job writing characters that are relatable to me. This story is another one that I enjoyed as well. Ryker and his daughter are looking for a place after she decided to live with him when he meets his super kind neighbor Avery. Avery is excited to meet the new neighbor and shocked at how sexy he is. Fast forward to Ryker and Avery spending time together regarding his daughter and Avery helping him with her. I enjoyed Rykers daughter Ellie trying to push her dad and Avery together. She seemed a little more mature than a 15-year-old but still I loved her persistence. Avery and Ryker have normal relationship issues and thankfully there wasn’t any OWD because I can’t stand that. LOL I loved the story and how Avery and Ryker were so supportive of each other. They are what an older couple in life would be concerned with….finances, kids, and time. I enjoyed the start of the series and look forward to another story from the characters and the new players from the expansion team.
