In the most unexpected of twists, my senior year takes a detour when I'm shipped off to live with my brother's family. It's not exactly what I had in mind, but one thing brightens the whole ordeal – Julianne, my brother’s stepdaughter. She's been in the background for so long, but now she's front and center, a part of the popular crowd and so am I. But there’s one problem - she can't stand me. Every move I make seems to grate on her nerves.I’m the bad boy my brother told her to stay away from, but I’m drawn to her. Even when she's fuming, she’s impossible to ignore. I try to distract myself with football, with anything, but thoughts of her linger. And from the way she’s been checking me out, I know she can’t ignore me either. Can we turn this awkward situation into something more?

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Julianne was just about to start her final year at high school, she had changed herself beyond recognition losing weight and turning from what she saw as an ugly duckling to a swan. Guys were starting to notice her especially with how her best friend Kelsey was dressing her. Her summer and final year had been planned but when her mum and stepfather announced that his brother would be coming to stay with them after being expelled from an exclusive boarding school and finishing his schooling with them little did, she know the destruction that was heading her way. Greg upset her for fun until they shared a moment and she realized that she was in love with the one person she should hate, from then on, the relationship went from and to worse and he left her with a broken heart and an ex best friend. Can Julianne move on from her relationship or will he return to her life with yet more heartache?

Greg had a hard relationship with his parents, as his mother had mental health issues and he was shipped off to boarding school, he had done all he could to get thrown out and when he finally managed it, he was then sent to live with his stepbrother and his perfect little family. He was determined to cause trouble before he arrived and once, he caught sight of his step niece he knew he had the perfect target. His mouse wasn’t quite what he thought and the more and more time that he spent with her he knew that she was something special and too good for him. He pushed her way as much as he could knowing her goodness would be wasted on him, but he wanted her. Will Greg ever realize what he could have if he would let her in or will he lose her for good?

This was a new author for me and although I did really love the book there was plenty of issues that I had with it. Julianne was too fixated on everything that she thought was wrong with her in the beginning of the book and she seemed to need a guy to validate her, when Greg arrives, she lets him get away with tormenting her and as the story goes along, he seems to take joy in smashing her spirit. Greg is a complex character that you are either going to love or hate as the book goes along, and as much as I wanted Julianne to leave him in her past each time, he hurt her I still wanted them to be together. I think that this book needed a few chapters from Greg’s POV so you could see what was going on his head. Did I enjoy this book the answer is yes, will I read more by the author that is also a yes, but it was a hard going read at times I can guarantee that both characters will annoy you at some point, but I ended up caring about them both and wanted them to be together. Worth a read 4.2*.
