Babysitting the team troublemaker when he’s forced to volunteer for the foundation where I work means I can’t exactly avoid him.
I wish I had though. Because once I get to know Dominic, it’s almost impossible to ignore the feelings he brings out in me.
Pretty soon, I’m breaking all my rules. I just have to hope he doesn’t break my heart in the process.

it’s official. i am a Dominic Walker whore.
these bitches really called me lonely in several different languages.
i was not expecting to fall in love with this like i did— but from chapter one with a grumpy hero, some forced proximity and the whole “we know each other online and in real life... but we don’t know we know each other” i was praying it would be a recipe for success. and it was!!
i instantly liked both MCs— Dom was a grumpy dick but it’s immediately identified why he is the way he is, so i couldn’t help but sympathise with him— the author did a really good job of setting up Dom’s character, he acts a certain way for a reason so it was really easy to understand him and his actions.
he described his actions as though someone else took over his body and he was watching himself act a certain way, and the way he talked about it just made me understand his character so much better— he wasn’t a dick for the sake of being one. his grief kinda gut-punched me through the pages... the author did an excellent job in his characterisation.
i low-key got emotional a few times at how people treated and perceived him. the amount of characters i wanted to beat tf up for judging him? ooooo, you wanna get fucked up, huh??
he seriously didn’t have anyone in his corner for such a long time, so everyone coming at him from all angles made me wanna fuck some bitches up🤪 i seriously wanted to protect him at all costs, like a big mamma bear☺️
while Faith was such a sweetheart. her nickname of “sunshine” was aptly chosen. i really loved her and the way she saw past Dominic’s angry bravado. in the beginning, she went head to head with him and didn’t back down— their little back and forth bickering was seriously funny to read.
but Dom stole the show for me honestly. like his character development? s p e c t a c u l a r it really was as much about his personal journey as well as his love story with Faith.
and the way he was obsessed with her? he just wanted her and didn’t let anything get in the way of that, proving himself to her that they were worth it... i was really losing my damn mind over them. all the cute dates he planned for them were so stinking cute, oh my god🥰 this book really pointed at me, sniggering “you wish you were us, huh?”
like the necklace scene in the carpark?😏 i was honestly holding my breath with them. these two just sizzled with so much tension, every encounter they had was dripping in it. all the casual intimacies, lingering glances and longing stares... these two truly had me in a chokehold. (i planned on binging the new season of sex education, but i honestly got too swept up in these two to fully commit to the binging lol— think it says it all😉)
they were just so soft and swoon worthy! this is the perfect read when you still want some angst, conflict and emotion without a bunch of unnecessary drama. i just adored this and now im super excited for Lydia’s book! a bodyguard romance with a spoilt princess and a grumpy hero?😏 say no more.

Again, the sight of that smile did insane things to me. It was the kind of rush I only usually got playing football. Making a great catch. Scoring a touchdown. And now, I could add making Faith Pierson smile to the list.

Summary: f*ck nice guys!! I'll take the grumpy tattooed bad boy who's only soft for his girl anytime of the day!!
If you know me, then you already know that I love pretty much everything Karla come up with and this book isn't the exception. Following what I believe to be her hallmark, she started a new generation and brought all the necessary tools to start this with fireworks; a sports rom-com, new characters ready to steal your heart, a lot of angst (this was new), a new family dynamic and old characters doing their rounds... Sorry, after knowing that there are all these characters that could have their own book I think I'm gonna be trapped in this universe forever!
Dominic Walker is Washington Wolves' new hire, but his bad boy attitude on and off the field seems to follow him everywhere. So when he ends up making a mistake on his first day, the last thing he needs is to be paired with the owner's daughter and her sunny personality to do some pr work. Faith Pierson may be the daughter of a football legend and the owner of the team, but there's so much more to her, and sooner rather than later Dominic will find himself falling for her... for the second time.
Ugggh, this book! I'm not even ashamed of all the times that it made me cry! The romance was amazing to me, I loved how they started off on the wrong foot, with Dominic being judgemental and Faith not letting him off the hook easily, giving him a battle of her own. And then came the revelation with Dominic realizing what was going on and who Faith really was , and I loved all the effort he made to be in her good graces again, and then the way to win her heart. If I'm being honest I really didn't like the way Dominic kept the secret about him and Faith and their true connection because I feel like the excuse wasn't good enough, but I did like the way the situation turned out, with them taking their time at Faith's request, and Dom working through his issues so they could be in the relationship they both deserved. I think it was a very somewhat mature ""groveling"", and much more meaningful than just words of love, flowers and an apology.
And then there are the new family dynamics, new characters, and old appearances! We have Dominic's family, who were not basically the cause of all my tears here, but damn if it wasn't something sometimes painful sometimes beautiful to read. He had a lot to work on here, and when it all came out, the result was heartwarming. AND THE PIERSONS!!!! The Allie and Luke crumbs were immaculate, but the best of all was seeing Lydia in action, and if you think I'm desperate for her book then you're so right! Her tropes promise a lot of fun so obviously I can't wait!!! And finally, the mentions about the Ward... sorry I'm DEAD. Logan Ward being a sexy silverfox DILF?? the girls? MOLLY GRIFFIN WITH KIDS??? Emmett Ward on the field following in his father's footsteps? this is too much for my weak old heart!!
I mean, I just wanna say that if you are still not into this universe... WHAT ARE YOU EXACTLY WAITING FOR?

THE LIE is everything I usually dislike in contemporary (sports) romances.
And yet… I actually really enjoyed THE LIE. Crazy right? I think what really made me fall in love with THE LIE - cliches and all - was the characters. Dom is this angry tortured bad boy who, get this, actually works to better himself. Faith, well Faith, knew.👏 her.👏 damn.👏 worth.👏 Basically, Dominic and Faith are excellent, fleshed out, endearing as hell, characters.
Oh, who am I kidding? The real reason I ended up loving THE LIE was one, Dominic Walker. I truly fell head over heels for Dominic, and I feel zero shame about it ✨
Like - ahhh. And that ☝ is why Dominic Walker is my future husband. #SorryNotSorry Ellie, he's mine.

The Lie is a promising 4 stars read. But then, toward 80%, with unnecessary drama, I dropped it to 3 stars.
Miss Sorensen takes a different approach in The Lie. The story of Dom, is not weaved into the plot. Instead I got snippet here and there. I still not quite understand what is the drama behind his character.
The chemistry between Dom and Faith is good. I like the enemy to lover vibe. I like the banter. I like the tender moment between them as the story build.
Overall this is an OK read.

She was the kind of girl you wrecked your life over.
The Lie was super duper sweet. It had me feeling all of the feely feels and I just loved being back in the Washington Wolves world with the next generation. I guess technically the third generation of this world, and I ADORED every minute of getting to know Faith and Dominic and reading them fall in love. And Dominic. That man put me through an emotional ringer. Sigh. Anyway, can’t wait to see what’s coming next, the sneak peek has me excited!

This book.
I am absolutely obsessed with it! And to say I devoured this book by Karla Sorensen is an understatement. Ever since Karla announced that she’d be writing Faith’s book, (Luke’s daughter from The Bombshell Effect) I was giddy AF. And it was everything I expected and more! It had the perfect amount of push and pull. The perfect amount of flirting and kissing and emotion. The perfect amount of heat and drama. It was so good!
Faith and Dominic had me hooked right out the gate. I loved Faith’s upbeat personality and her offbeat charm. She was such a fun character. She’s sassy, sweet and strong. She’s also a hard worker and very good at her job. I loved her personality and just adored her so much. And I’m a sucker for a grumpy hero any day of the week – so it took nothing for my heart to wrap itself around Dominic and his delicious, addictive, big, swoony heart. He’s a misunderstood soul, but he also doesn’t make it easy to get through his layers. I loved the way things played out in this story and how this unlikely band of characters drew Dominic out of his shell and opened up his heart. There were moments that read like a movie to me – the descriptions so perfectly written that they flitted through my brain like I was physically watching them unfold. My heart completely took flight over how perfect these two were, and how much I absolutely adored their story... I could read about these two forever, I just loved them.

This book was yet another unputdownable example of what an exquisite storyteller Karla Sorensen is. This story catched me off guard in a good way. I really enjoyed reading and I loved this book. The plot is entertaining with some twists and turns. I had a lot of fun while reading and didn‘t want to put my kindle aside.
Faith and Dominic are perfect for each other. The had amazing tension and were just made for each other. I liked the way they communicate and the banter was so funny. Dominic develops a lot as a character and he tries to be worthy for Faith. Although Faith just loves him the way he is. Their love story was heartwarming and emotional.
This was a fantastic sport romance and I loved everything in this book. The characters were well build, as well as the storyline and the world building.

I'm learning two things to be unequivocally true:
✔️ Football romance is my ultimate catnip.
✔️ Karla Sorensen is a go-to author for football romance.
Argh, I loved this so much. I came late to the world of Washington Wolves, starting with the Ward sisters, where I fell hopelessly in love with the writing and the storytelling, which brought me here - to this flash forward in time and the sexy, spicy, rawness that was Faith and Dominic's story.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts, y'all. And I loved the layers that their story was given - it's a grump/sunshine story, but not necessarily the one I was expecting. I loved how this played out. They stole my heart, they set my heart to racing, and they left me with a great big smile on my face.
The Lie was the most wonderful blend of emotionally charged, sparky heat, and just the right amount of angst. Add in a little fierce family loyalty and this story fell firmly into my wheelhouse. I loved Faith and Dominic's story so much, and cannot wait for The Bet!~ Shelly, 5 Stars

The Lie was the most wonderful blend of emotionally charged, sparky heat, and just the right amount of angst. Add in a little fierce family loyalty and this story fell firmly into my wheelhouse. I loved Faith and Dominic's story so much, and cannot wait for The Bet!~ Shelly, 5 Stars

I’ve read other books by this author and enjoyed them, but this was just blah.
Idk I feel like I’m sick of books sold as certain tropes only for that to not really be the trope. Authors are like well it KINDAAAA is like that so I’ll push it as that. And then you read it and get disappointed. Setting themselves up for failure.
Also, the break stuff that happened in this? Meant to be exciting I guess but really ehhhhh just boring.

A smitten bad boy? Yes, please! I absolutely LOVED this hero, a guy who listens to the devil on his shoulder too often. He's moody, broody, tattooed, and talented - and he's a total softie on the inside. This one's a little bit enemies to lovers, a little bit friends to lovers, and a whole lot of opposites attract. The chemistry is SMOKIN' hot, and the sexual tension is there from start to finish. I devoured it in one sitting, and I have no regrets. Sorensen is an excellent writer who never disappoints - and I'm definitely looking forward to more from the series.
The story follows Dominic, a pro football player who has a reputation for acting out. Tempers and tension were the norm on his old team, but Dominic has just moved to a new city - and he's already made a terrible first impression. When he's sentenced to some community service, Dominic meets Faith. Faith is the daughter of the team's owner, and Dominic assumes that she's just another spoiled rich girl. But when Dominic discovers that Faith is actually the girl he befriended online years ago, he sees her in a whole new light. And the devil on Dominic's shoulder encourages him to see if Faith would fall for the brooding bad boy version of him... without revealing that they've been virtual friends for years.
I loved Dominic, I really did. It's easy to see that he's more bark than bite, and once he discovers Faith's "other" identity, it's a game-changer. They've got the kind of instant chemistry that keeps you glued to the pages, and knowing that there's already an established connection makes the instalust a lot easier to handle. These two are SEXY together, and while this is a slow burn, it's a fan-worthy one. Not even surprised that I ended up loving another one of Karla Sorensen’s books. I just love returning to this world with the Washington Wolves! This one’s about Faith (Luke’s daughter from The Bombshell Effect) and Dominic who is a new football player at Washington Wolves.
Their first meeting in real life didn’t leave a good impression for the both of them so the moments they had after seemed to take them by surprise as it left a much much better impression. I loved seeing it all unravel. So many cute and steamy moments too 🔥
Another detail I felt giddy about is how they’ve been online friends for 3-ish years but they don’t know each other’s real names. They've been forming a friendship before they even got to meet in real life.
Dominic is definitely a broody guy with a soft heart. He has some emotions to work through but it was nice to see him become self-aware of what needs changing and actually do something about it. Yes to this character development!!
Another thing I appreciate is how family dynamics are often in Karla Sorensen’s works and it’s always seen how that manifests in the main character. A fun addition I always love to see in romance books!

Questo bellissimo romanzo parla di Faith, una splendida ragazza solare, gentile e affabile, figlia di Luke e Allie che abbiamo conosciuto nella serie principale “Washington Wolves”, e Dominic, uno scontroso giocatore di football famoso nell’ambiente sportivo a causa del suo gioco aggressivo e della cattiva reputazione.
Dominic era un tipo solitario, a cui non interessava fare colpo su nessuno dei compagni della nuova squadra di cui faceva parte ma ci teneva a essere il benvenuto tra loro.
L’unica persona che lo faceva sentire accolto era Faith perché riusciva a vedere al di là dell’immagine di selvaggio che solitamente mostrava agli altri. La sua era una maschera che gli serviva per celare al mondo sofferenze e dispiaceri che desiderava tenere solamente per sé. Non perché non volesse essere compreso ma perché semplicemente era abituato, suo malgrado, a non parlare del dolore che lo affliggeva. Con nessuno.
Faith invece era riuscita, con non poca difficoltà, a scalfire quella corazza che con determinazione, tempo e pazienza, si era costruito intorno.
Era incredibile come i suoi sentimenti si fossero evoluti da quando l’aveva conosciuta, passando presto dal disprezzo iniziale al desiderio sfrenato.

Era molto più facile essere Nick, il ragazzo che costruiva case per permettersi il college, perché proprio grazie a lui era riuscito ad instaurare una relazione stabile con Faith nella quale poter esprimere se stesso completamente, senza filtri. Cosa che non poteva fare nei panni del fastidioso piantagrane che tutti conoscevano.
🖋️Il personaggio di Dominic mi è piaciuto molto. Un ragazzo che, per amore, è finalmente sceso a patti con sé stesso, affrontando una volta per tutte le sue paure, scacciando via risentimento e rabbia che non gli sono mai appartenuti, ma che negli ultimi anni di fatto lo avevano caratterizzato, cambiandolo.
🖋️Come gli altri libri della serie anche La Bugia risulta essere appassionante. Cattura l’attenzione del lettore, coinvolgendo soprattutto a livello emotivo perché contiene un messaggio importante: con pazienza, determinazione e tanta volontà, si può trovare un modo per trasformare un dolore incessante in un progetto utile e benefico.

Here's the thing. This book is based on one of my favorite tropes of all time. Secret penpals who have never met actually HAVE met in real life and canNOT stand each other... until one of them (why is it ALWAYS the guy) realizes his real life nemesis is the same as his penpal and he starts being nice to her and wins her over. (a la You've Got Mail, etc.)
It makes me so bummed that I CANNOT STAND THIS BOOK ANYMORE.
I HATE HATE HATE insta-lust in enemies to lovers trope. (don't call me out by pointing out books I've loved with this... I'll deny) AND I hate enemies to lovers where there is no good reason for my characters to be acting so snotty and dumb.
This book is chock full of both of those things. And it's so CLOSE to being good, but the descriptions of how hot they find the other person are just unnerving me and giving me all the icks.
When they first meet, dude is having an off day. He's bummed because 5 years ago on this day, his little sister (who he adored) died. He gets in trouble with the team owner and his team cause he not only takes responsibility for his own actions, but also protects a rookie that did worse than he did. Great! A sad grump with a heart of gold.
I was pretty stoked about the start cause it was a pretty good setup. But he pouts and acts asshole-ish even after that day is done. When he meets the heroine, he's so disrespectful with absolutely no cause. And he keeps being disrespectful and douchey... UNTIL he realizes that the heroine is his secret penpal. Does he immediately think "Yay! My friend. I can't wait to get to know her in person!" ??
Nope! He starts thinking of all the ways he wants to have sex with her.
And she, of course, is thinking all those things back while also thinking he's been a douche.
This turns me OFF. Seriously, I started to shiver all over with revulsion. I cannot stand it.

È una storia semplice semplice, senza drammi eccessivi o colpi di scena eccezionali, ma al tempo stesso con dei momenti veramente dolcissimi che me l’hanno fatta leggere davvero volentieri 🥰 soprattutto dopo la delusione della mia precedente lettura. Lo stile della Sorensen mi piace sempre molto e ora non vedo l’ora di leggere di Lydia!

Faith is a sweet, hard working person with a bleeding heart that she wears on her sleeve. But Dominic with his misunderstood grumpiness and tragic backstory steals the show. These two completely opposite characters share a connection that is beautifully intense and have magnetic chemistry.
The conflict and its resolution in this story were very maturely done. The lack of irresponsible decision making and immature, childish accusations against each other gave room for healthy self growth for Dominic where he learned how to deal with grief and channel his anger.
The Lie being the first book in a spinoff series of the beloved Washington Wolves series, gives us a much awaited look at the wholesome family dynamics of the Pierson clan. Faith’s friends and family make loving and supportive side characters.
Karla has won me over with a story that reads more like a movie, a kind but fierce heroine who refuses to be anyone’s proverbial punching bag, a vulnerable hero with a brutal past who hopes to be loved for who he is and a connection that runs deeper than I could have imagined. Her storytelling has seen marvelous growth with each new book. The Lie is a book that you should definitely pick up for an intense heartwarming experience.

i thought i was going in for a hawt spicey sports romance!!??
ended up getting a softcore emotional ass book
me after reading this book:
"You know they are talking about you.you weren't exactly known for your ability to keep your cool in Vegas. Didn't you set the record for most unnecessary roughness flags in a single season?"
Dominic Walker also famously known as Walker the Wild ladies and gentleman is your classic old rough football player. got anger outbursts and snappy arguments at the tip of his tongue and is a big time asshole.
That was my first open opinion of him too. But i would happily say i was wrong.
Even though he did was all of that but it was more of the 'why' he was all that.
Dominic's little sister died of a rare leukemia. She wasn't even 10 at the time..
On loosing his little sister to cancer who also had the dreams of growing to be an athlete made Dominic who he is.
I picked up the phone , swiped until i found the right messaging app, and for the first time all damn day, i didn't question what i was about to say or if i was phrasing it the right way
There was only one friend of his he used to tell everything to, only one friend he ever opened up about Ivy, his little sister, only that woman made life more bearable for him and that was his online friend that went by the name TurboGirl
After his very shit first day with the Washington Walkers
Dominic already got himself in trouble. Allie, the owner of the team got him in his office and told him that to earn her trust as a player he would be doing volunteer work with Faith, her daughter(step-daughter) for her and her husband's foundation,Team Sutton.
"May i sit?"
"Do you often ask permission to sit on your mommy's fancy couch?"
"I'm sorry. Did i piss in your cheerios this morning and not know about it? You don't even know me hotshot"
"I've known people like you my whole life,sunshine"
EVERTIME he calls her sunshine....
So as expected they don't go well together.
To Dominic, she's just a rich spoiled kid with mommy and daddy's money.
To Faith, he was nothing but a cocky asshole who was rude for nothing.
They go to spent a day with the kids only after she'd tested him out making him work at a fundraiser which included him washing dogs.
Walking into the territory of the little kids, Dominic felt that pang of hurt seeing all those little girls when her own sister if alive would've been the same age, so he proposed if he could go out and play ball with boys or something to which Faith agreed to.
The day goes by surprisingly nice for both Faith and Dominic.
"oh, fracksticks i have to go now"
"what did you just say?" My eyes zipped to Keisha's face"
"oh i stole that off faith. She always says it"
Faith shrugged "I'm around too many kids on a weekly basis.If i don't find creative ways to swear,I'd get myself fired real quick"
if i'd thought i felt raw before, it was noting compared to how i felt now.I'd never heard that phrase anywhere except from one person
and peasants give me a drumroll because Faith is indeed the TurboGirl he talks to
NOW this motherfucker circles back on how he was such a TOP TIER asshole to the one person he was bestfriends with and the only one that kept him sane.
My man now wants to redeem himself by trying to make up all for it but rather than being a man with a working brain and telling her that he's the one she's been talking to all this time online, he keeps this to himself because he wanted Faith to fall for the man he is. with all the rough edges and smart ass mouth.
He asks her out and when i say a perfect man.
I say Dominic Walker.
He was literally the definition of a softie rough babie fairytale man people talk about.
He aced the dates with bright colours.

few chapters in and things indeed fuck up when Faith herself finds a picture of Ivy in Dominic's pocket.She gets all excited to tell him the new info and miss maa'am gets to know he knew it all along.
Faith tells him square in the face that he had to work on himself before he could do anything.
THIS. This was his shit to figure out and he had to put all on work to himself before they could move forward.
AND AS SHE SHOULD. WE'RE DONE BEING THE FUCKING THERAPISTS FOR MEN WHO REFUSE TO OWN THEIR SHIT UP.
Grief doesn't fade, no matter what bullshit people feed you after someone dies.It's always fucking there,crowding the base of your throat and weighing down the bottom of your gut. you just... get used to it to the point it doesn't ruin your every waking thought"
"And this is you....fighting?"

And oh i love to say it, HE WORKED ON HIMSELF.
He worked on his temper.
He bought sports thingies for the kids at Team Sutton.
He started a charitable foundation with the name Ivy League , a scholarship program for girls from low income families who wanted to pursue their athletic dreams.
"My sister didn't live long enough to achieve her dream of becoming a professional soccer player, but she'd beaten cancer, i can guarantee that she would've kicked so much ass doing it.I started Ivy league because of her. Because she couldn't do the one thing she wanted. But i also started it because of one other woman. Faith.
you are the only woman i will ever love, Faith Pierson. I don't know how i got so lucky to find you in this life. Marry me, Sunshine?"

It was good. Really. There just wasn’t anything the gripped me. I wasn’t head over heels in love with the hero or heroine or their relationship. I felt like the story was pretty predictable, overall.
There isn’t anything I disliked, so I’m going chalk this up to personal preference.
I will say I wasn’t a big fan of the male narrator for this one.

This was a meh read. The beginning was intriguing but it became super boring to continue. It was meant to b a managers daughter book but the parents knew from the beginning which ruined the whole point of the trope. Also, the whole argument and fight was annoying.

Davvero molto bello, amo leggere dei figli dei protagonisti incontrati nei libri precedenti, qui ritroviamo Faith, la sua storia con Dominic parte con i fuochi d'artificio, ci sono dei pregiudizi, che poi scompaiono, inizierà una tenera e dolcissima storia, ma il lieto fine non sarà così scontato, Dominic dovrà lottare per rimediare ai suoi errori...

La Bugia è un contemporary romance auto-conclusivo, ma collegato alla serie Washington Wolves.
La protagonista femminile di questa storia è Faith, la figlia di Luke Pierson ed Allie Sutton (I protagonisti principali di Effetto Bomba), ed io sono contentissima che l’autrice abbia deciso di scrivere dei romanzi anche sulle nuove generazioni!
Essendo la figlia della proprietaria della squadra di football Washington Wolves e di un ex quarterback, Faith è cresciuta circondata da sportivi, al college è anche uscita con uno di loro, ma da allora una delle sue regole più ferree è non uscire con i giocatori.
La sua è sempre stata una vita economicamente benestante, ma non è assolutamente una ragazza snob, al contrario è una persona molto disponibile, gentile, una gran lavoratrice e molto impegnata nel sociale, in poche parole la persona perfetta per gestire la fondazione benefica dei suoi.
Faith è così solare, simpatica e sincera che mi è piaciuta dall’inizio alla fine, l’unico a farsi inizialmente un’opinione completamente sbagliata su di lei per via del suo status sociale è il nuovo acquisto della squadra: Dominic Walker.
Soprannominato “il Selvaggio” per via del suo gioco aggressivo nella precedente squadra, Dominic non gode di una bella reputazione, e non aiuta di certo quello che combina appena arrivato nei Wolves.
È proprio per via di questa bravata che Dominic viene “invitato” dalla proprietaria della squadra a dedicare alcune ore alla fondazione benefica, con Faith a tenerlo d’occhio.
Anche se a primo impatto passa per il tipico bad boy / piantagrane con quel suo atteggiamento arrogante al massimo, grazie al punto di vista alternato lo si conosce veramente nel profondo e allora si scopre davvero che bella persona si nascondo sotto quella spavalderia.
I due protagonisti sono ben caratterizzati, hanno un gran feeling ed anche se partono con il piede sbagliato la loro dinamica di coppia mi è piaciuta.
La Bugia è un romanzo che apprezzeranno anche le amanti del trope friends-to-lovers, ne capirete il motivo durante la lettura, non voglio anticiparvelo!
Karla Sorensen si conferma un’ottima scelta quando si tratta di sport romance, con quella sua penna scorrevole e frizzante, i suoi libri si leggono fin troppo in fretta!
Ora non vedo l’ora di leggere il libro sulla sorella minore di Faith, previsto per inizio 2022!

Karla Sorensen ci riporta a Seattle dai Washington Wolves con una serie spin off sulle figlie degli amati Allie e Luke. Il primo volume è dedicato a Faith che dovrà vedersela con un giocatore molto irascibile, il tenebroso Dominic.
Dominic Walker, soprannominato il selvaggio, è il nuovo tight end dei Washington Wolves e non poteva inaugurare la stagione in modo più inappropriato. Durante la conferenza stampa accumula rabbia e nervosismo e ritrovarsi a passare la notte sul campo con una bottiglia di Jack Daniels e un novellino della squadra sarà l’ennesima scelta sbagliata. Sarà il presidente del club in persona, Allie, a dargli la giusta punizione e a fargli incontrare la figlia Faith che lo coinvolgerà nelle attività della sua associazione benefica. Frecciatine e dialoghi al vetriolo saranno l’inizio di una frequentazione che sfocerà in qualcosa di più grande di loro.
‘Dominic non mi aveva guardata come se fossi asessuata. No, mi aveva guardata come se fossi la cosa più succulenta e deliziosa che avesse mai visto, qualcosa di dolce che voleva divorare.’
Faith Pierson ha il dono dell’altruismo e seguendo le orme della madre adottiva Allie è a capo dell’associazione Team Sutton che si occupa di aiutare ragazzi disagiati sia nello studio che nello sport. Cercare di stare alla larga dai giocatori di football era la sua regola numero uno vista la sua disastrosa esperienza al liceo. Purtroppo però Dominic fa parte di quella categoria di giocatori che più l’attrae, quella più pericolosa che consiste nei giocatori con un ego gigantesco e molto talentuosi.
Riuscirà Faith a non cedere al fascino del bad boy impenitente Dominic?
‘Sì, Faith Pierson era esattamente il mio tipo, e questo mi faceva venire voglia di tirare un altro po’ le proverbiali trecce per vedere cosa succedeva.’
È sempre bello leggere le storie collegate ai Wolves, ritrovare i Ward e tanti protagonisti già letti in precedenza, nonostante il libro sia assolutamente stand alone.
La cosa che mi è piaciuta di più è il taglio commovente ed emozionante che l’autrice è riuscita a dare a questa storia. È uno sport Romance che ha tutte le caratteristiche dell’ hate to love che tanto piace ma c’è molto di più.
Dominic ha un dolore nel cuore che non è ancora riuscito a metabolizzare e proprio l’associazione di Faith e l’amore per quest’ultima lo costringeranno a fare i conti con il suo burbero carattere, per tirare fuori la sua dolcezza e la sua vulnerabilità, affrontando finalmente quello che ha dovuto passare, insieme alla sua famiglia.
C’è molta malinconia che accompagna la narrazione della storia ma c’è anche un bel rimando al famoso film "C’è posta per te". I due protagonisti sono inconsapevolmente amici di chat e proprio il mettersi a nudo dietro la tecnologia sarà motivo di incomprensioni e fraintendimenti.
Ho amato alla follia Dominic e tutte le sue imperfezioni, il suo cuore è enorme e sono contenta che Faith sia riuscita a vederlo veramente. Lei è un portento, riesce ad amarlo ma soprattutto a concedergli quegli spazi di cui lui ha bisogno per ritrovare se stesso tirando giù la maschera di cattivo ragazzo.
Le scene hot sono abbastanza presenti e quello che mi ha colpito di più è stata l’intraprendenza di Faith.
‘Questo era il tipo di connessione che non pensavo esistesse realmente: cuori congiunti mentre il suo corpo faceva al mio cose indicibilmente meravigliose.’
Non vedo l’ora di conoscere la storia di Lydia, sorella di Faith, reginetta di Instagram e molto più appariscente della sorella. Sul finale ci sono colpi di scena e tutti i presupposti per una storia altrettanto emozionante. Sembra arrivi già all’inizio del prossimo anno, speriamo.
Se amate il genere sport Romance con una grande componente emotiva è proprio il vostro libro.

Washington Wolves fans rejoice! Karla Sorensen has gifted us with some second generation magic. The Lie is a delightful opposites attract romance- where the sunshiney philanthropist crosses paths with the capricious footballer and sparks fly. And it is everything I love about KS’s story telling- nuanced characters, a focused storyline, swoony moments, captivating chemistry, and lots of feels. Yet another delicious consumptive treat!
Ever since my much beloved Faked, I’ve come to realize that my very favorite stories of Karla Sorensen are the bad boy-good girl/jaded and sunshine contrasts. She delivers them with a practiced ease- stories with intense chemistry, complicated character dynamics, but so much swoon. The Lie is everything I love about Karla’s writing- and everything I love about this trope.
Fans of Bombshell will recognize the extremely endearing Faith- daughter of Wolves owner Allie and Luke, now all grown up and running the team’s charity, Team Sutton. A role that puts her directly in the line of fire with the wolves’s new wild child- Dominic, a notoriously hot headed and off putting baller. This tatted bad boy is already treading thin ice with team leadership, and his antics soon land him in mandatory community service with Faith’s charity. Dominic immediately lashes out at Faith, assuming she’s only in her role because of her privilege and nepotism, and Faith is less than impressed by the arrogant, bitter, and bad tempered player that’s been thrown in her path. But their thinly veiled hostility is challenged by a burgeoning respect when they start to see….and learn….unexpected things about the other, and after a highly serendipitous occurrence.
Faith is everything I love about Karla Sorsensen leading lady. She’s smart, capable, strong, and driven. And she’s also humble, generous, loving, and oh so kind. I loved her quirky charm and her brightness. After a less than palpable beginning, she somehow finds a way to be open to Dominic, because she sees the best in others. She’s the kind of person we should all aspire to be- one full of empathy, love, and joy. Dominic is perhaps the surliest of any Sorensen hero I’ve read to date, but we find his gummy bear squishy center pretty quickly. This is a man that has been consumed by grief for so long, he’s learned to cope solely through isolation and hostility. His arrogance and broody armor cause him to be misunderstood, and he’s cared little about challenging anyone's perceptions. Until Faith unleashes the breadth of his long suppressed heart, until he wants someone to see the good in him again. He’s deliciously complicated and imperfect, but also epically swoony when he wants to be. Dominic more than makes up for his misdeeds and mistakes, with some ovary exploding romancing.
While some of the aspects of their connection require a smidge of disbelief (fate really got this one on the head, amirite?!), ultimately their story is just adorable. These two have a sweet, tenuous at first but every strengthening connection that stems from a place of care and respect. We’ve got ample heat and tension between them, but even more swoon and charm. Banter, some heat, a bit of angst, and a lot of heart. And, like so many Sorenson stories, there’s a subtle but meaningful message around the power of authentic connection to catalyze compassion and healing. And these two have that authentic connection indeed- two seeming opposites that somehow end up being the one person who understands each other the most.

Faith and Dominic were so good together, I'm obsessed with them!! I was hook on their story from beginning to end, and it was amazing to see all the familiar faces again. I'm already excited for Lydia's book because bodyguard trope is always a serve!

Era da tempo che non leggevo la Sorensen e libri sui suoi ragazzoni del football americano!
È stato bello ritornare nel suo mondo grazie a questo libro, grazie alla dolce e romantica storia d'amore tra Dominic Walker (detto "fenomeno") e Faith Pierson (detta "raggio di sole", figlia di una nostra vecchia conoscenza) e grazie a quel senso di famiglia che si percepisce tra tutti i membri della squadra, dello staff e della stesse famiglie di Faith e Dominic. A proposito, di quest'ultima, essa sta vivendo un periodo drammatico e delicato che si ripercuote nel carattere e nel modo di rapportarsi in squadra e fuori dello stesso Dominic, che presenta problemi comportamentali e difficoltà nel gestire la rabbia. Una situazione che mi ha commossa più volte.
La storia d'amore parte come haters to lovers, ma a causa di un segreto che non posso svelare, il rapporto di Dominic e Faith è più un friends to lovers. La chimica tra loro è pazzesca! Il primo bacio è stato davvero emozionante e passionale, così come le loro scene di intimità.
Il libro non ha grandi colpi di scena, c'è solo una bugia che aleggia tra i protagonisti e di cui dovranno farne le spese una volta che verrà a galla. Si tratta comunque di una bella lettura, abbastanza scorrevole, emozionante e con un finale romantico da lucciconi.
Ora non vedo l'ora di leggere la storia della piccola Lydia e della sua guardia del corpo!

È stato bello ritornare nel suo mondo grazie a questo libro, grazie alla dolce e romantica storia d'amore tra Dominic Walker (detto "fenomeno") e Faith Pierson (detta "raggio di sole", figlia di una nostra vecchia conoscenza) e grazie a quel senso di famiglia che si percepisce tra tutti i membri della squadra, dello staff e della stesse famiglie di Faith e Dominic. A proposito, di quest'ultima, essa sta vivendo un periodo drammatico e delicato che si ripercuote nel carattere e nel modo di rapportarsi in squadra e fuori dello stesso Dominic, che presenta problemi comportamentali e difficoltà nel gestire la rabbia. Una situazione che mi ha commossa più volte.
La storia d'amore parte come haters to lovers, ma a causa di un segreto che non posso svelare, il rapporto di Dominic e Faith è più un friends to lovers. La chimica tra loro è pazzesca! Il primo bacio è stato davvero emozionante e passionale, così come le loro scene di intimità.
Il libro non ha grandi colpi di scena, c'è solo una bugia che aleggia tra i protagonisti e di cui dovranno farne le spese una volta che verrà a galla. Si tratta comunque di una bella lettura, abbastanza scorrevole, emozionante e con un finale romantico da lucciconi.
Ora non vedo l'ora di leggere la storia della piccola Lydia e della sua guardia del corpo!
