Arrogant elves. Terrifying goblins. The voice of a snarky dragon in her head...
Most middle-aged people are worried about their cholesterol and 401k. Vivian Rivera would celebrate mundane concerns like that. Instead, she’s been plagued by hallucinations since childhood, and recently learned she’s the descendant of a goddess known as the Queen of Chaos.
Fleeing from goblins.
Tolerating condescending elves.
Dealing with her matchmaking aunt’s plots.
Viv’s life is spiraling out of control, with the promise of only getting worse.
It seems the Queen of Chaos has a formidable enemy who is pursuing her daughter beyond death. Plagued by visions, Viv must decipher their meaning to reveal the location of the keys and thwart the Reckoning. But time is running out. Can Viv find a way to free the goddess and DayKing from the dimension they are trapped in before darkness comes for her?
I have never read a fantasy genre book and wanted to give one a try. Having this be my first fantasy read I decided to go into it with an open mind and really give it a chance. I can say I am happy that I did. The action begins almost immediately in this book, without a lot of back story upfront to weigh down the storyline. It feeds you details as you go along explaining things in the past simultaneously with those happening in real time. It can be a bit bogged down in descriptions at times, but as this is a prequel, I understand the scene is being set for later stories and that foundation must come from somewhere. Vivian is an interesting character. She starts off somewhat weak but grows so strong by the books end that you cannot help but be in her corner as the story progresses. Her chemistry with Amir is electric and makes the reader want more. The secondary characters are just as interesting which is a surprise! Donal is quite arrogant and cocky, even when he is trying to be sincere. Nia however is mysterious and always leaves you wishing you knew more about her and her backstory. I am hoping there will be more of them in the books to come. Overall, as a new genre I can say I liked the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this sort of fantasy world story.
Vivian has been thinking for years that she see's things in the shadows and that she is hallucinating. Until one day she actually runs into things she only thought lived in Fantasies. She finds out that she really is a Seer and has a former Seer living inside her who wants to receive a body of her own. She finds out that her best friend Amir is not who she thought he was. This is a book with lots and lots of twists and turns. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of what was going on. This book is full of paranormal creatures from Dragons to Unicorns and thing that are new and exciting. If you enjoy a good paranormal book with some romance and some unexpected turns this book is for you. Very good character development and the writing was exceptional.
Vivian Rivera has had an unusual life which is now getting really strange. Since she was a child, she has had hallucinations, recently finding out she is a descendant of a goddess known as the Queen of Chaos. She is also a Seer. Her best friend, Amir, is not really the person she thought she knew.
I am amazed at how well she seemed to adjust to all the craziness. The story line is full of twists and turns, so if you finally figure it out – think again, you’re probably wrong. For me, the best part is all the supernatural creatures that make this a wild adventure for our heroine. Where I would be freaking out, she just shrugs and goes on with what needs doing! Grab your copy and enjoy the adventure!
First and foremost I am so glad to see a character that is a more mature age (40s). The different dominions of this world are aspired by myths and legends and is intriguing. The mix of fantasy and modern flair bring out its uniqueness. I find myself having the same reactions to the new places as Vivian. She is a very relatable character exuding the struggles that humans have in our minds too. Her self awareness is something to be admired. She is a strong character who adapts to her new role with surprising ease.
The characters are all unique and you are left wondering how well they will be able to work together to achieve their goal. I look forward to learning more about Donel, Nia and Amir’s roles.
I finished the book fairly quickly because there were always unexpected events that kept me interested. It is an easy read and left me wanting to know more at the end. There are endless possibles for this fantasy to explore.
I tossed up with this book as to what rating to give it a 3 or a 4. There are many things I didn’t like about the book, I felt it was too confusing in parts. I love detail in books so I can create images in my mind but I felt this book had too much which detracted from the main story. There were inconsistencies as well throughout the book. I did like the world building, just feel like the authors tried to push too much into one book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The author takes the mundane-human-turned-supernatural-saviour in a different direction than the usual quest. I have to say that the title is misleading - Viv seems to be anything but unwanted. If anything, she seems to be too wanted, which makes for rollicking action, desperate self-examination and impulsive romance. This was a fun read!
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Part of the Reckoning series a well written story that held my interest throughout. Vivian Rivera finds out she is more than human and has to come to grips with it. Her story has suspense, drama, allies, villains, and her best friend Amir. I enjoyed reading this story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A delightful story that will keep you reading. All she wants is to live her middle age like a regular person. Not happening. Instead she’s descended from Royalty. How will she deal with this. Ready for the next book.
