A Spring in Sinai: Hieromartyr Mina Abood: His Life, Miracles, and Martyrdom in Post-Revolution Egypt

Rate this book
On July 6, 2013, Father Mina Abood was martyred. In this book, you will follow along the mere thirty-eight-year-long journey spent by this honored presbyter on the earth. It begins with his early life and humble beginnings as a servant in his home-city of Aswan, and later in the suburbs of bustling Cairo. It then proceeds to describe his mysterious call to the priesthood in war-torn Sinai. The compelling story culminates in a valorous witness to the Christian faith, and a brutal, yet triumphant, martyrdom. But the story does not end there, as you become acquainted with the esteem that the Lord God holds for His martyrs, manifested in the events following Father Mina's death. The hope is that all may be encouraged to model the resilient faith of this contemporary martyr, who persistently emphasized, "My true home is in heaven."

A truly beautiful book that captures the blessed personhood of Fr. Mina Abood. Through the pages of this book he is made manifest for all those who did not know him to encounter him. A hard book to put down and a Saint impossible to forget.

What I love most about this book is that the author and Fr. Mina’s wife never sought to overly romanticize Fr. Mina’s story— multiple times they reminded us that he was just a regular guy. Any awe or wonder that the reader felt wasn’t a result of dramatization by the author, but the authentically told real life events of this contemporary saint. This is so badly needed in the diaspora, especially in this era where sainthood sometimes can feel unattainable. Besides all that, this book is just so eloquently written and heart warming.

truly inspiring

On so many levels, this account encourages anyone that is anyone that the greatest of heavenly honor is within reach and open to ordinary men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds. This great saint’s lodge story and martyrdom pays witness to the fact such great saints are ordinary people like you an I, with their own struggles and mediocrities, have attained the greatest honor in heaven.
