Did I always believe in magic? Not until today. Sure, I had seen my mother's ghost, but I'd managed to rationalize that.
It wasn't until I was taken to some strange museum in Oregon and inducted into a supernatural agency that I truly believed.
Then, something happened to the agency, and I was one of the last mages left in America.
Now, I have to learn my peculiar magic all by myself. Well, not entirely by myself. I have a few beautiful women and a disgraced mage genius to help me figure out why my powers are so unique.
A highly entertaining read that is exciting, amusing and plenty of fun to read. Giving the impression of an MIB with magic, mysterious happenings and engaging characters
The main character Pat, turns into an Over Powered Aether Mage, that with his special abilities can make mages out of regular people. This is more sex than story and a story directed to readers with low emotional intelligence, the author even sticks in jokes and pop culture references to make it a bad porno with bad jokes. I believe that if you take out the sex from this story, it would still be a good story to read. If this author worked on the "story" and not the excuses to "not to write a good story". There is a false premise/fake belief, that to make a harem-like-retinue fantasy novel series, the main character needs to sleep with every woman that he encounters. But just like the author, this character, Pat, does not have any abilities in charm, seduction, money or power to be able to justify his polyamorous-polygamy-harem-like conditions. Just like in any game, "THE HAREM CONDITIONS HAVE NOT BEEN MET" and yet, the author forces a "harem-like" main character retinue on the readers, like if having sensual liaisons with multiple women took no effort or skill at all. It would be like a book geek like this one to think that though. This author is completely delusional and should be institutionalized. There should be a warning on the cover of his books: "Reading these stories may make you think having sex with multiple women (even at the same time) is easy, but you are still a geek in the end, a very low emotional intelligence one."
The main character is extremely bland and any personality the characters exhibit is based off thin stereotypes and cheap references. Nothing at all here is original or compelling.
Enjoyable read since I live in Portland, Oregon. Aside from that it was a solid story line with some very interesting characters. A little hazy on the power system, how the mages gain power, or how they got it in the first place. But hopefully we will get more of that in the next book. Also very curious about this mysterious group with enough magic power to summon a massive storm powerful enough to take out the agency Headquarters but was chasing them down the highway with ‘mundane’ weapons, ie handguns. Still, I will be reading the next installment because I want to see more of the story and the interesting characters. Also, could use a read through for editing sake. Nothing monumental but was a little distracting from time to time.
Dante King has become a much better write since Bone Lord ended, his style has evolved to quick, flitty, humor filled novels loaded with wit and charm along with well adult themes. Can those adult themes be cut back? Maybe but they work for him and personally O could care less if there are sex scenes so long as the rest is worth it and oh boy is this book worth it. I don't think there was a chapter that didn't have me pause to laugh, I was hooked by "practice safe sects" which is early in the book. That said it felt short but probably wasn't all that short, quite a bit happened in a short time and I can't wait for the next one to see how it all plays out. Solid 4.5/5 for this genre.
So basically new series With a young recruit for what seems like a men in black ah la magica. As usual from this author the book was fun and fantastic. Hopefully the series has got many books in it. I look forward to the adventures of our budding MIB recruit as he learns on his own about his new powers and what happened to the Agency that awakened them. Through some beautiful and talented women in the mix and recipe for fun read. The chance for new powers and abilities in the future is tantalizing. New life to explore and.... Survive
Dante King does it again. Another new series I may well be hooked to. As someone else wrote, a little of creation mage shines through, yet it is different enough that it is most definitely not a rewrite of one of his other series. The main character is plenty different and really awesome in this. His side kicks are pretty cool as well the old messed up mage helping him out will remind you of other characters Dante has written in the past, but is still a separate and unique individual. I am really looking forward to book 2
I can read a three hundred plus book in a few hours without any effort. The first thirty pages took no over a week. I do not know if it is the setting, the characters or the writing but I just found this to be horribly boring. I could not make myself read it, I do not know if it is good or bad. All I know is it is not for me.
Another excellent book by Dante King. Looking forward to many more. He has a few great books at this point that I really love to read . Not sure what I was expecting; but was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the storyline and characters. Keep the great books coming.
I really enjoyed this book, the first one in a series I hope. Set in modern times with a paranormal world under the surface. It's not all that original but the story was fast, fun and the characters were fun to follow and became really well flushed out early on which is refreshing. I hope the second book is just as fast paced and engaging.
I think the storyline is very interesting and I like the characters some are funny some are not some are beautiful and some are not but I guess that's true with any story I enjoyed reading this story it kept me entertained and that's the most important thing to my mind.
Like the premise of the story and it was at times funny (really) but then sometimes it was really trying too hard. It got to the point of the laughing jokester that thought everything was supposed to be funny. Timing is everything, and when everything is a joke it gets tedious and boring. (ha. ha. ha. instead of Ha! Ha! Ha!)
Aether Mage is another successful series from Dante King. It hilariously funny, full of action and an interesting plot that wants you begging for more. I can’t wait Aether Mage 2!
This was an incredibly fun read the MC is entertaining and relatable, and TBE other characters really add to the narrative! This is grand adventure of the veiled world that exists alongside our own, and I eagerly await the next one!
What an unexpected blast! More like the Harry Potter bus ride than the bulk of the books in this genre. Side snapping turns, different take on the arcane, and a lot of cliches that actually work in a snarky way. Have fun.
One has to wonder why their magic only pops up with a push. Something as latent as that should of shown. I guess you need magic to show magic I wonder how much of a magic boost he can give too the other girls?
I tried but the book just didn't flow as well as some of the authors other works. The MC just annoyed me and the supporting cast just annoyed me more.. Sigh.. I tried...
I really enjoyed this book. It is unique or nearly so in that the protagonist doesn't have a clue, and his group of mentors and associates are all either neophytes or eccentric to the point of being almost useless. Somehow it works
Most people recognize fire, Ice, water, earth, and wind mages, but this is a new type of magic. This is the stuff that makes up the magic, like mana, but not mana. Learn magic, meet sexy mages, and fight the good fight.
Could have been an interesting idea but spoiled by over descriptive sex scenes and excessive use of attractive females surrounding our everyman come neo merlin. I resent that this was recommended because I love the Dresden files.
Fun book to read. MC and supporting characters are good. As is typical with Dante Kings books, I expect to see more development as the series progresses.
Well you did it again D-man, making me salivate for more. So now we wait. This is a great read for any d king fan. Keep this going we need more fun like this.
A good fun story!!! Good adult fantasy action, interesting and not over powered magic!! Hopefully this will continue into yet another great series by this author!
