Having never played the game, which I heard was rubbish, I rather enjoyed the trilogy of books. Covenant was still a fun and good read just like the other two. However, you're not getting anything new here.

The problem with Covenant is the lack of an ending. I think this has to do with the fact that it's based on a video game that they thought was going to be successful and would be able to write more books. That didn't happen. The plot lines from the previous books do get wrapped up but they happen too fast. The showdown isn't much of a showdown. The best and most frustrating thing is the relationship between Leah and Simon. Sadly, that too isn't resolved as much as I would like.

The good news is I hear rumblings that a Japanese company may bring Hellgate back. If they do, I hope they make enough money to bring back the books too.

Wonderful concludion to the trilogy. Literally had me cheering and rooting for Simon and his crew. Odom even manages to make the turn of one character very believable and feel very natural. I will be asking Mel Odom and the publisher if there is any possibility of more books in this world with these characters. This has made me a believer that game based books can be very good reads.

It was very tempting to bash this book in a review, because I really don't like the way the author decided to finish up the trilogy. That being said, in view of the fact that I was constantly curious and concerned about what was going to happen next in the sequences of events, I couldn't bring myself to give it a low rating. Mel Odom is a fantastic fantasy writer.

A good book, but it doesn't necessarily complete the story. The story could easily continue on after the last page is read. I hope there's another trilogy or series of books after this one to bring some closure to the characters.

Hellgate: Covenant by Mel Odom is a video game tiein novel based on the 2007 PC game “Hellgate: London”. This last installment in the Hellgate: London Book trilogy follows three people. Templar Knight Simon Cross has been trying to protect civilians from the invading demons as well as try to keep them fed. As scientists discover some startling revelations from the Goetia Manuscript, not only do the Templars gain a powerful weapon against the demons, but also a hope of a hidden Truth that may save Earth from devastation. Leah Creasey's secret organization allows her to try to convince Simon Cross to lead the Templars and form an alliance. But she discovers Simon has hid something from her. And when Leah is captured by a demon with a powerful machine, no one is safe once they fall asleep. Warren Schimmer has once again been reluctantly recruited by a powerful evil force, this time the legendary demon Lilith. Warren trusts no one, but must depend on his companions to help keep each other alive. With the action and intensity heating up, this latest installment is the most exciting yet. The demons are meaner and stronger, the humans are getting more desperate, and the Goetia Manuscript begins spilling its secrets just in the knick of time. Odom has created wonderfully fascinating characters, each with troubling decisions that have to be made, with lives on the line. But with all of humanity struggling for survival from the demon infestation, can separate human factions join forces to discover the Truths, the only hope against the demons? As events culminate towards a climactic ending, it soon becomes obvious that the entire story cannot be resolved in this latest book. Overall, This has been a fabulous series based on the computer game. And author Mel Odom, has brought the story alive on print, artfully blending fantasy, futuristic science fiction, and intense military action.

I get this is world building and a prequel but the ending felt rushed. Horrible final confrontation. Also the amount of typos increased with each novel lol

Honestly I was worried that the Lilith would not hold up the end of her bargain but she did and it just became so insane that I was like I need a book #4

This is not how to end a trilogy. I was totally expecting to the final lines in this book to be something along the lines of, "find out what happens in the video game". And honestly, after playing both the game and reading the books, neither happens. Some plot lines are closed up in this book, but others are started and never finished. It was also very annoying when the story did a 180 near the end of the book.

The last part of this book felt like it abandoned most of what was built in the first two to tell a new story. While the new story got resolved, it left me feeling a sense of loss for all the other half built plots that never got fleshed out.

Do not go into this book expecting any sort of closure or you will be disappointed.

I would've liked to give this book more stars because the trilogy is good enough to deserve more stars - the problem lies in this book, particularly the end of it.

As per the first 2 books, the story and the pacing are entertaining and engaging. It continues to focus on Simon, Leah, and Warren. As you read it, it becomes obvious that this book is meant to join with the story introduced in the Hellgate: London game itself - the end of this trilogy is the start of that book.

The problem? It was executed horribly. I've played the game, so I can kinda fill in the gaps; but it would be horrible for those who don't play it. The build-up to the finale involving the three factions were rushed in a single chapter and unresolved. Warren's build up to a climactic encounter with Merihim was casually done in just one paragraph. Simon and Leah's relationship was built upon, but never resolved properly. The final fight that leads you to believe that all three factions are going to get involved, devolves to nothing more than Simon and Warren rescuing Leah. The Agency didn't even get involved. And the list of loose ends goes on. I suspect it was not Mel Odom who wanted the book to end that way; it's just too vague and too incomplete compared to the rest of trilogy. That whole final chapter and that useless epilogue really left a bad aftertaste in my mouth - so much potential - wasted in an _extremely_ rushed finale. Still, read it if only to find out more about what happened to the protagonists - then maybe go read a detailed walkthrough for the game to more gist on the storyline.

This is the third in this series. I have to admit,
despite my misgivings, I couldn't put this book down.
I've even found myself reading an hour of it before going to bed on a worknight.

This book has enough intrigue and subplots and action in it to keep me reading.

And I've also found a way to justify me reading a fantasy book, I just think of it as a horror novel.

Liked the entire series and I liked all but the last two pages of this book. I didn't like the last two pages because the story isn't FINISHED!!! Come on! I need to know what happens to our mighty hero! Lol!! I have a book crush on Simon Cross...

I vested a little bit of time reading this series and was disappointed that the third and "final" book in the series left many unresolved issues. Overall it was worth the read, but there are better books on my list if you don't have the time.

I mistakenly thought that this was the end of the series but it isn't.

The story moved along a little but I still find the series a little slow. At least in this volume we can see an end point. Since the last book was written back in 2008 I'm not sure if we will ever get to see the end here.

This book completed the trilogy in an okay manner. It felt a bit hurried and not a complete as the other two books. I am enjoying the game.

The best book of the trilogy. The only downside is the fact that there is not and probably never will be a fourth part. The story end just when it starts to get interesting .

Shame . Shame .
