Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich was the younger brother of the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. Following the abdication, Nicholas II had left the throne to Grand Duke Michael but due to the Russian Revolution he too abdicated after 24 hours. He became the first of the Romanovs to be murdered by the Bolsheviks.
This was a very small book that was a collection of essays written about the Grand Duke and then edited by Paul Gilbert to be published.
I enjoyed reading about a much lesser known Romanov as he was often only mentioned in passing notes in other biographies. The essays were very accessable and easy to follow, however I did find that due to them being written by different people, many facts were being repeated. I would have loved this book to have been longer and more in depth, I felt as though I only scratched the surface of the Grand Duke's life and his family, but this was a great introduction to a more obscure figure.
