Roman—I'm not your typical matchmaker. For one, I'm a man who's covered in tattoos.
Despite my appearance, there's a reason ninety-five percent of my clients seek out my services based on referrals. I'm good at what I do. But lately I've grown bored with the same daily routine.
Then an unexpected request piques my interest.
CJ, the former college basketball star who recently rented the office suite next to mine, isn't looking to place a ring on someone's finger any time soon. He's interested in something else entirely.
It's a challenge. Something new.
He wants to date casually and explore his curiosity in other men—but that's not my end goal. I specialize in forevers, and I'm determined to find him the perfect guy.
There's an unforeseen problem with my plan. After spending time with him, I find myself a little curious too.
I've never been with a man.
I've never been annoyed to see my strategy working.
And I've never deliberately set a client up for failure.
Clueless Romeo is book three in the Guys Next Door series. It's a steamy story about two guys who are bi-curious...or maybe it's more than that.
Baylin writes gay romance stories full of sweetness and steam. She's best known for her Sugar Land Saints series that follows a college football team set in Texas, which she also calls home. Whether writing books or reading them, Baylin spends the majority of her time tucked into the pages of stories about men who love other men. She has two amazing children, a spoiled cat, a hyperactive dog, and a heavy addiction to caffeine.

The third book in this fun series focuses on CJ , one of the twin brothers who are best friends with Archer, who was the MC of the first book.
CJ, for awhile, has been feeling like he's probably bisexual, but has been scared to actually try with a man, and so has kept this part of himself to himself.
When he and his brother Caleb move into the space attached next door to where Roman works, to start their own sports apparel business and live in the apartment upstairs, that all changes.
Roman is good at setting people up. So good, that he started a matchmaking business, and he has a very high success rate with his clients.
CJ is already aware of his attraction to men, so his attraction for Roman the moment they meet is instant. Roman is a little more slow on the uptake, as he thinks he's straight until he meets CJ.
It takes a little more time, but not much more, for Roman to start to feel things for CJ too, and come to the realization of this feelings.
But not before CJ comes out as bisexual to Roman, and I can't remember if CJ asks or Roman suggests, but CJ ends up signing up for Roman's matchmaking services to finally, maybe, try being with a man for the first time. Although CJ insists he just wants something casual, and most of Roman's clients want something serious...
But also, by the time that is happening, Roman is feeling all the feelings for CJ, and doesn't want his date with the guy he chose for him to succeed.
Revelations are made, attraction is shared, and these two give into their feelings for each other.
So about 2/3 of this story, I adore it. I love their chemistry and I love the set up for them, the pacing wasn't too bad, and the romance was good.
But then the last third or so, it lost me a bit with how things are handled. So, once CJ and Roman give into their feelings, they kiss and have sex and all that good stuff, for about two days. Then things happen, not much time goes by, but there's a little bit of time for CJ and Roman to figure out what it is they want from each other.
Still isn't that long, though. And literally right after CJ and Roman have a talk with each other about being legitimately together and telling others, they get caught by CJ's twin, Caleb, and his girlfriend.
Then Roman freaks out, says he has to go, when he said he'd be by CJ's side when he came out. CJ gets angry immediately and tells him to get out, and Roman does.
This all felt...very manufactured. Because they don't even have time to actually settle into a relationship or even just start dating before they're found out. Sure, Roman said he'd be by CJ's side and all that, but I think he's allowed some time to get used to them being together before they get there?
But I also don't blame CJ. I mostly blame the writing. Because to CJ, while he's accidentally outed and it's not his choice, he goes with it and is ready to come out to his brother, and Roman swerves on that. But also, it's so fast and like...I think Roman, who previously thought he was straight, is allowed a moment of freak out.
I think the author had the moment happen way too fast, thus Roman's freak out, but then didn't let CJ be understanding, which - him not being so understanding - would have made sense if they'd been together a little longer. But they barely agreed on telling others and literally were just making out when Caleb saw them. It was too fast, too soon.
I think they should have been allowed to settle into things before that happened. And so we get Roman freaking out and leaving, but then also he realizes he loves CJ. Which, great! I think the chemistry was there for that, the romance was there for that...that it wasn't too unbelievable. But it did happen very fast. Because again, they only spend a weekend with each other, maybe a few days figuring out what they were, and then their agreement and then Roman freaking out, and that was it. Not a lot of time.
Also, I was bummed we didn't get to see what happened after Roman left. Instead the next time we get CJ's POV, we learn that Caleb just said nothing after Roman left and walked away? Why? Why couldn't we get a scene with CJ and Caleb really talking about this? Instead we got a convo happening the next day and it was a pretty mellow conversation. But then why was Caleb so upset that he walked away without even talking to CJ at all?
It didn't make much narrative sense at all.
So all that served to give this one full star off for me. The climax of this story was just a little bit of a mess.
But the rest of the story was good enough for me not to give this less stars. I did enjoy it a lot, and these two were so good together.
The epilogue was good too, and I enjoyed it. (I'm also sensing...could there be a future book about Caleb and Archer's uncle Isaac? Because...I'm getting those vibes. Even though Caleb is still with his serious girlfriend...I'm getting hints that they might break up one day and that Caleb and Isaac might happen...there were just some hints here and there, especially in the epilogue, that that might happen...)
So if the climax had been written better, this would have been a five star read for me. It just was a little too rushed overall for my liking, and character motivations were a little shaky as a result. This would have benefited from being a chapter or two longer, with us getting to see CJ and Roman really date each other and get all the closer, in my opinion.
But otherwise, I enjoyed this a lot, so two thumbs up from me. This series as a whole is a very solid series, and I can't wait for the next book, whichever couple that may be 😄
Hmmmm...the things that irked me about Stripped Love showed up to bug me in this book too. It started strong but then things got weird. Excluding the epilogue, which I liked a lot, I didn't feel like Roman and CJ knew each other any better at the end of this book than they did when they first met at the beginning. So when those BIG feelings came about and those BIG declarations were made, they were impossible to believe. Between the insta-everything, the exhausting inner monologue and the WTF dramatic moments that seemingly came out of nowhere, I struggled to connect to this story. But it was still fun to read in a guilty pleasure kind of way. Roman and CJ were hot together and the side characters provided some comic relief as well as some knocks upside the head when the MC's were being dumb. So not a total loss, but definitely not my favorite by this author or in this series.
This started so promising! I loved the premise and the MCs were so cute. The scenes with the MCs were fun and so hot. Their banter was good, the connection was there, and the heat was intense. The problem with this book was that the scenes with the MCs felt like they were less than a quarter of this book. There were so many scenes with other characters and it was boring. I skimmed every scene with the brother because he was unlikable.
I almost DNF’d this book, but I kept holding out for it to get better. It didn’t. It got worse near the end somehow and an innocent bystander was dragged into their shenanigans. Poor Nate. That felt so wrong. I think I’m done with this series and I’m so sad about that.
Pretty garden-variety, standard MM romance. I was intrigued in the beginning—the MCs seemed to have a good connection and some yummy UST. But things ended up moving way too fast with essentially zero relationship development and no meaningful connection. It was all OTT insta-love and growly caveman “You’re mine! You belong to me!” declarations. Not to mention, lots of eye-rolling drama, including one of my gay romance pet peeves, wherein one MC throws a fit bc the other MC, having just discovered his bi side, doesn’t want to go public right away. It’s like, geez, asshole, back off and give the guy a minute to wrap his read around his shit before announcing it to the world. Anyway, meh.
I enjoyed this one. It’s a cute double bi-curious story. This series is all about men who are a door away from each other in some way. In this setup, Roman owns the other half of what was described as a duplex sort of building with the business below the apartments the men lived in. The author stated that these are interconnected standalones, which I agree. I never felt that I was missing something as I read this one. In fact, she gave just enough info as to not retell the story of a previous couple, but to get me intrigued enough to read about them. Archer and Phoenix from book one are cameos in this one, and I plan to read their story next. I enjoyed the little tidbits that she dropped about them.
Romeo and CJ are neighbors in this one. CJ, and his twin brother, Caleb, have recently graduated from college. With the help of their father, they have bought the place next door to open a sports memorabilia shop. Romeo and CJ just click right off the bat and strike up a friendship. They meet for drinks on occasion and shoot hoops, as both brothers are former college basketball players. Romeo has a feeling that there is something different about CJ, but can’t really put his finger on it initially.
CJ likes Romeo immediately. He feels comfortable around him in the way he rarely does with new people. Given what Romeo does for a living, he ends up sharing that he is curious about men but that he’s never been with one over drinks one night. The idea plants in Romeo’s mind, and he is unable to let it go making himself question his own sexuality. He struggles with it. On one had is knows that he is attracted to CJ, on the other, he doesn’t feel comfortable enough in his own skin yet to reveal that about himself, to anyone.
When he ends up pairing CJ up with another man on a date through his matchmaking business, he realizes that he’s willing to risk the high success rate he prides himself on to see the date fail because he wants CJ for himself. We really see Romeo’s fallibility here because he makes a lot of mistakes when it comes to CJ. A lot. He struggles to come to terms with what other people will think of him as a bisexual man. CJ’s nervous, but he handles it a little better. Likely because it’s something that he has known about himself for a long time, whereas Romeo was completely blindsided by his attraction to CJ. He does make a few mistakes too though, he's not entirely blameless.
I’ll let you discover the rest of their HEA. They do get one, and it’s a sweet story with some good steam. Ms Crow’s dirty talk is on point. I enjoyed reading about them. Like I said, I plan to catch up with Archer & Phoenix as well. Archer is the twins best friend, Phoenix is a former stripper turned songwriter.
If I have any criticisms, it’s that the story’s pacing was a bit fast for me once the attraction came out. We didn't really get to see them settle into the relationship. We time jumped into the epilogue after one year. It didn’t really lessen my enjoyment of the story though. It was more of a brow raise and an okay then, carry on type of moment. Some minor suspension of disbelief there, but like I said, I still liked the story. It was a quick read for me. I recommend it if you’re looking for some sweetness to pass a few hours.
One. It took a while to get to the attraction bit. Small issue, not criminal. Maybe it was on me for not expecting a slow burn.
Two. Really the big one. I'm not entirely sure I agree with the mild(?) villainization of Roman the time he ran out. C.J has had a while to get used to the idea of his bisexuality. Roman didn't. And I understand that Roman is the one who pushed for them coming out. I get it.
Nonetheless, I get why he freaked out when Caleb walked in on them literally a few seconds after. There's a difference between agreeing to tell people on your own terms and someone walking in on you and you don't get to control the situation. I absolutely get that Roman running....nay, fleeing was a SHIT situation for C.J.
But honestly, I kind of get why Roman did it. 🙈And therefore I couldn't get with the program when Jasmine was ragging on him. I could get C.J because he was absolutely entitled to his feelings on that situation. But Roman was kind of put on the spot, and idk. I guess I just understand the panic. Maybe that's just me.
Three. The love declaration was wayyyyyyy too premature. These men are NOT in love. These men are just two people who have just made peace with the reality of their attraction to each other and mutually decided to explore it. Fine. So they slept together. Not love. So they're jealous about the idea of seeing other people. Not love. So they had a big blowout over the coming out thing. AGAIN....Not love!
I think maybe in some situations it's okay for characters to acknowledge they're into each other and would like to see where it goes. I understand that this is genre romance but I don't think this is one of those books where a love declaration was mandatory. Not with their relationship progression anyway.
It would have been okay to have an 'I'm really into you and I'd really really like us to see where this could go' conversation. And we had an epilogue!!!!! The love declaration could more realistically have been included at that point. I am willing to die on this particular mountain.
RTC but this was super sweet and I loved all of the tropes in this one. Sadly, I had a lot of issues connecting with the book. But I still enjoyed reading it and I wish that I loved it more because this book sounds like a book that is perfect for me, so i’m really bummed that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I wanted to.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest opinion
I haven’t had the chance to read book 1 in this series, but I have read book 2, and “Sweetest Hate” was one of my favorite books of last year. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to read and review Crow’s newest addition. Roman intrigued me from the very first sentence he spoke. A straight matchmaker…the hijinks basically wrote themselves there. When he meets CJ he thinks nothing of it until…he thinks way too much of it. Sexual awakening is one of my all time favorite tropes. There’s just something about it that makes my heart go pitter patter, and Crow did a fantastic job. Roman’s realization of his lust and eventual feelings for CJ happens organically. So organically, you honestly kind of forget he’s supposed ti be totally straight when their together. The steam scenes are some of the hottest scenes I’ve read in a while, but that’s par for the course with Crow’s writing. My absolute favorite part of this book (which says a lot because this wiggled it’s way into my top ten of the year) is how jealous Roman gets over CJ’s set up date (at his own hands, I’ll add). I’m not sure what it says about me, but I love when a love internet gets jealous and possessive. I need to read book 1, because books 2 and 3 really knocked it out if the park for me and I absolutely adore Crow’s writing. Sexy, funny, heartwarming, and cute this is a great MM romance with the cutest HEA
Well done Baylin, well done!!! This author is one of my favs which means I’ve read all of her books and this one by far is one of my favorites!!! I read this book in one sitting and even after it’s over I’m wanting to continue reading. I loved the characters and I loved the chemistry. The sex scenes were fire as usual and there weren’t too many!! A perfect combination of sexy and romantic. I noticed all her characters are under 30 but I would really love to see Caleb and Isaac have a book please and thank you! I can’t wait for the next one!
Roman is a Cupid (not the Fae kind). He brings people together with great results. CJ has opened a shop next door to Roman’s office. How can a relationship overseen by Cupid fail.
Bi awakening with a slowburn, some angst, and two guys, not really knowing what they are doing, getting really busy….a lot. Humor in the form of CJ’s brother and Roman’s sister gave it the lightness it needed to connect with the reader.
Nice story, stand-alone, good characters and writing.
We met CJ in Stripped Love, he was friends with Archer. Roman and CJ Were so perfect for each other. Both bi-curious was undeniable chemistry. I liked how Roman was so laid back and just went with the flow. CJ has kept himself hidden, he thinks he’s bi and wants to try it with a man. Adored Roman and CJ!! Overall this was a fantastic story, reads really fast with great flow, highly recommend.
Clueless Romeo is filled with plenty of laughs, love and moments that made our hearts burst. This is our second read by Baylin Crow and it was an absolute joy. Roman and CJ give you just what you're looking for when it comes to a sweet love story.
Roman Love owns a matchmaking business. The tattooed, golden hair man has always played Cupid with his friends and now has a successful business doing just that. In fact, he has a perfect record…one could say he’s undefeated when it comes to pairing couples. Which is ironic considering he never spends more than one night with a woman. He’s never given a second thought to being with a man, until the one with onyx-colored hair and ice-blue eyes moves in next door.
CJ and his twin brother, Caleb just moved into the commercial space next door to Roman’s business, and the apartment next to his above the shops. For years, CJ has been attracted to men but never dated one, always choosing hookups with women and keeping his bisexuality a secret. He’s instantly attracted to their new neighbor with the tattoos and sexy smile. One night, while getting drinks with Roman, he comes clean about his interest in dating guys. CJ quickly declines when Roman offers to find him a match.
After losing a bet over a basketball game, CJ now has to let Roman set him up on a date. However, CJ is only interested in the one doing the matchmaking. Can he find the courage to confess his true feelings to Roman? Will Roman stop fighting and give in to the feelings he has for CJ?
I did not expect anything from this book so I was taken by surprise how much I liked it, the story was incredible, and quite toxic which is what I like, highlighting the level of steam and WOW the level of dirty talk was not a joke.
I really had high hopes for the last book in this series (at least, I hope it's the last because I really don't want to keep going.) The first one was just the right amount of sweet and spice with a little conflict sprinkled in. Book two was a terror of misplaced hate fking that immediately morphed into love. And book three... ugh... I can't quite put my finger on what I disliked. I can tell you I liked the spice and chemistry. Some of their banter was fun.
I hated Caleb in this book. He never got held accountable for honestly acting like a total prick after catching Roman with CJ. He's constantly acting like a giant loud stupid child. I kinda hate him and what he brings to the story. It was nice to see the original characters show back up. I also had a hard time with Roman's denial of his own feelings even though they were obvious. And even when he gave into them and had supportive family and friends around him he acted like a dick. Ugh. Just. Ugh. His contradictions were hard to swallow. He kept calling CJ "mine" even though he refused to acknowledge his feelings. He acted really stupid caveman alpha male without any real conviction (in my reader opinion).
However, it's almost impossible to stop a book narrated by Iggy Toma. I wonder how often he *hates* what he's having to read? I kinda feel bad for him. But he's wonderful and does such a great job. All in all I'd give it 2.5 stars. Also, please please if you continue this series don't make Damon and the Uncle a thing. How they walked off at the end gave me the ick. Like, no. Please.
i was re reading some scenes from this (btw i love this book!!!!! probably my fav in the series) and i was just wondering if anybody else wants caleb and nate to get together??? caleb is CJ’s twin and nate was the guy CJ went on a date with. i would love that. i know caleb is in a happily committed relationship with a woman in the book but like come on plzzzzzzzz
Clueless Romeo is the third in Baylin Crow’s Guys Next Door series. It can be read as a standalone, as while I have the first book, Stripped Love, sitting in my TBR, I haven’t read any others in the series.
This was another lovely book by Baylin Crow. Roman was undoubtedly my favourite character. I have a soft spot for bi-awakening books, and I loved how cool and laid back Roman was about it all. From the beginning, his interactions with CJ were not how you’d typically expect a straight guy to interact with another man. It was like on some level, he understood that CJ was going to mean something to him, and he wanted to make sure of their friendship.
While CJ already wanted to explore his attraction to men, Roman thought he was straight. Once Roman recognised that his feelings for CJ were romantic/sexual, he acted very quickly. Some would say too quickly, but I put this down to his generally easygoing nature, and he just went with it. His betrayal of CJ at the first test of their relationship was disappointing but understandable, and I was happy to see CJ make him work for his forgiveness.
Clueless Romeo is a low angst, relaxing and often funny read. I will be going back to read the rest of the series, but it can be enjoyed on its own.
Left me slightly confused I got this book off gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review In this third book of the series we meet Roman and is Cupid he is a matchmaker and his name is Roman love. He’s got his own company where he finds the perfect pair for couples who are seeking more than a hook up, they want a future. And I really like his sister who works with a receptionist. When is spots new people moving in next door he pops over to say hello and meet CJ and his twin Caleb. And there’s just something about CJ. CJ and his twin were opening their own sportswear equipment shop. Caleb had a girlfriend and was quite lazy so it left CJ doing a lot of the work. When the new next-door neighbour invited them out for a drink that evening they both said yes but Caleb got called away to spend time with his girlfriend, leaving CJ to go out with Raman for a drink at the local bar. And they hit it off straight away. After three or four drinks CJ told Roman the truth about his sexuality. Roman said he could find him the perfect man but CJ wasn’t ready to commit. After a game of basketball CJ lost a bet which meant that Roman could set him up on a date but if CJ was honest with himself the only person he was interested in was Roman. After an incident where they ended up on the floor it was strange to see that both of their bodies react to one another but would they ever get round to acting on it??. I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of this book, but I’ve got to say I got a bit confused with how things turned out with the rushing and it just seemed a bit off. I was really hoping they would connect because their attraction was so real and then when they finally act on it it’s all gets a bit weird. So I’m gonna give it four stars and wait to see what Baylis Crow for us next.
4.5 Stars CJ and his twin brother are opening a business next door to Roman’s matchmaking business. CJ kept his bisexuality to himself while he was playing college basketball, but now that he’s out of school, he’s ready to explore this side of himself but he wants to keep things casual. Roman finds people their forever person, but he’s a bit bored with it—it’s too easy these days. When CJ confesses his situation, Roman decides to try to find the perfect guy for CJ. But before long, he begins to suspect that it’s him.
“I stepped back further, creating more space, but it didn't help me breathe any easier. If anything, it caused me to question everything even more. Suddenly it felt wrong to walk away from CJ.”
‘"No, I didn't kiss him. You were my first. Happy?" Possessiveness I didn't know I was capable of swelled in my chest. "You have no idea." "Of course, you are, you greedy bastard.”’
CJ and Roman are so funny together. They are attracted to each other but don’t want to be—in part because they’re neighbors, so it could get awkward if things didn’t work out. But CJ isn’t sure Roman even likes men or him specifically. And Roman is a little freaked out to be attracted to a man. It makes for some fun interactions between them as they try to fight their feelings. I know possessiveness and jealousy are not good things IRL but I admit I enjoy them in the fantasy worlds that are romance novels, so it was really fun to see Roman get all possessive and jealous over a date he set up for CJ. Things progress a little too fast, so I’m glad that we do see CJ and Roman spending time getting to know each other, so there seems to be a basis for their actual feelings for each other. The side characters are fun too—I’m curious who will get the next book—Nate? Caleb? One thing is for sure—I’ll be reading it!
I really enjoyed this book. I don't give five star ratings often and this isn't a solid 5 star book but it was definitely great. I loved CJ and Roman. I like gay for you books. I think the thing I like is the thrill of discovery. Hetero couples have made small discoveries along the way regardless of their experience level. The same for long time gay couples, I suppose. But with gay for you, you, as the reader, get to witness their first gay kiss, among other things. 😉
Caleb has known for a while he is attracted to men in addition to women and it seems he feels like he needs to be with a man before he could ever settle down. At least, I believe that was what he was feeling. But it came across as him being done with women even though he identifies as bisexual. So, even though he isn't experiencing a gay for you attitude with Roman, this is his first experience with a man, too.
The steamy scenes in this book were fairly hot, though vanilla. The possessiveness Roman displays before he even fully understands his attraction to CJ is hot, too. The way they get found out by Caleb's girlfriend was slightly amusing. They slowly out themselves one small conversation at a time.
I'm looking forward to the next book but don't recall how the characters in that book relate to any of the others in the series. In this book, CJ and his twin, Caleb, are best friends with Archer from book1.
I just love the Guys Next Door series, it's such a gem of a series. I have been dying, for C.J's book ever since reading stripped Love. He was such a barrel of laughs and i instantly fell in love with him and his twin brother Caleb. C.J has know for some time that he's interested in both men and women but has yet to explore his attraction to men. When he starts up a sports apparel business with his brother and moves in to the apartment upstairs. He meets Roman there is an instant attraction there but Roman is straight or so he thinks. Roman is a matchmaker by trade, lending a helping hand out to C.J in finding him a perfect match can only go one way.
C.J isn't looking for commitment though and as they both get closer Roman regrets his offer to help find him a match, feelings are starting to grow and as these two test the waters. There is a hiccup along the way which leads to a frustrating set of events. I really enjoyed Clueless Romeo but I did have some gripes with a couple of things but nothing major enough to spoil my enjoyment. I'm looking forwards to what comes next. I have an inkling theres something big coming in the future.
Since this is my first time reading a book by Baylin Crow I haven't read any of the series but that didn't affect this story for me. I really enjoyed this book! Roman is a matchmaker who has never been with a man before. CJ, who hasn't been with a man before either, and his twin brother are opening a sporting goods store next to Roman's matchmaking business. They make plans to go out for beers after work to get to know each other better. At the bar CJ asks Roman if he's ever set up a gay couple and is reluctant to be matched because he doesn't want anything serious. After spending time together Roman realizes he doesn't want to match CJ with anyone he wants him for himself. After some reluctance by both men they finally give into their attraction for each other. The sexy times are well written🔥🔥🔥! When CJ's twin finds the two men kissing a fight between the two men breaks my heart in two 💔. Don't fret though the book ends with a HEA.
I love that CJ calls Roman cupid, so cute! 😊 I loved Jazmine (Roman's sister), she was hilarious!

A great bi awaking story that I easily got hooked in to!
Already from Roman and CJ meet the first time, we can feel the chemistry between them. And of course it’s sizzling hot! I love it when Baylin writes possessive characters, and Roman definitely had no intention on anyone getting CJ!
Neither of the guys have experience with men from the past, and have little issues about the whole thing. I really don’t mind that, just shows that their both confident. Roman has some struggles excepting himself being bi, I really don’t think he’s afraid people will judge him. I think it’s all because he’s afraid to open his heart to love. CJ has been curious for a while, but isn’t exactly looking for a relationship… If there was a bit more about their relationship and maybe some more leading up to the first “sparks will fly” moment, this would definitely be a 5⭐️ for me. Low angst, high heat.
I LOVE the epilogue! And I can’t wait to read the next one. Fingers crossed we’ll get an age gap story about Isaac and Caleb sometime 🤞🏻
