First, my new boss says changes are coming to our library that threaten the programs I run. Then a letter arrives from my mother—whom I haven’t seen in more than twenty years—saying who knows what because I’m refusing to open it. Last but not least, the man who dumped me eight months ago is telling people that I’m trying to get him back.
Universe, I assure you I am not.
The one bright spot in all of this is the new guy in my life. He’s sweet, adorable, and seems totally interested. There’s just one problem. I might have bent the truth a little when we first met, and now I need to confess before he finds out from someone else.
Maybe I can’t blame the universe for everything.
Not Playing Fair is about family, forgiveness, and the friends who stand by us through it all. Come along as librarian Megan Knox becomes the heroine of her own story, and finds love along the way.

one of those books that is a perfect blend of women fiction and romance.. perfect for readers looking for a low steam level, we only get couple of kisses on page.. I like this group of friends and I will continue with the series as other friends get their stories told.. this book tackles topics of : - found family - parent abandonment - job stereotypes
extra tip: if you plan to read book one definitely read it before reading this book as this one has spoilers about the couple from book one
This is the 2nd book in the series and I loved catching up to these characters.
The story revolves around Megan, who's a librarian. She is still kind of recovering from a break up. Her then boyfriend made her feel boring and stayed so when she goes on a 1st date, her knee jerk reaction is to lie about her job. And to make that date even better she has a violent allergic reaction while eating shellfish by mistake.
Megan is convinced she's boring and that she has a boring life... This book is revolving about that saying "be careful what you wish for"... I don't want to spoil it here, but trust me a LOT is happening to her in this book.
I really liked reading about her, even though I found her lie about her job extremely stupid. I loved how close she is to her friends and how supportive all of them were. I can't wait to see what happens next to this group of friends.
I enjoyed this one for its familial and friendship aspects of the story. But not necessarily for the romance. Megan's journey is definitely fun, heartwarming, and quirky with how much drama comes into her former boring life. I wished it was dual POV so that we could get an insight into Ryan's POV so that it would feel more like a rom-com. But I still enjoyed Megan's story.
Book: Not Playing Fair Author: Terri Osburn Publication Date: August 30,2021 🅢🅤🅜🅜🅐🅡🅨: The universe is not playing fair. 🅡🅔🅥🅘🅔🅦: Not Playing Fair, was a sweet contemporary romance. It was told from the POV of Megan. I felt like the plot moved at a nice pace. Megan has many relatable situations that occur in the book, and I enjoyed reading how she handled obstacles that were thrown in her path. I also loved the supporting characters. I liked that the romance in the book, really seemed to be a nice addition to the over all plot, and that Ryan came along at a time that was perfect for Megan. Humor, heart, emotional depth, and solid friendships abound in this new series from Terri Osburn. I'm really enjoying this group of girlfriends from Pittsburgh in Osburn's NOT series. They laugh together, cry together, and always have each other's backs. I'm eager to read all of their stories. It's Megan's turn this time and she's in for a bumpy, entertaining, and emotional ride. Surprises are on the horizon for her, in her work life, her family life, and her romantic life. She's a likeable character who had me cheering for her from the get-go.
Osburn explores topics in Megan's journey that are easy for readers to identify with, making her journey very relatable. You better believe I was cheering when she took the initiative to set the wheels in motion for a very satisfying conclusion to her work obstacle. Then there's the way she approached her romantic tangle, both previous and present (Ryan is such a good guy. I adored them together). More cheers. Finally, there's her family situation, one that has had a tremendous impact on Megan for most of her life. When an unexpected twist lands her at a crossroads, the author could have taken the easy, feel-good path. I applaud her for keeping it real while allowing Megan, who has grown and strengthened over the course of the book, to steer the course.
If you're looking for a fast read told from the heroine's point of view, with witty banter, female friendships, emotional depth, sweet romance, and a surprise or two, check out Terri Osburn's Not Playing Fair. It's the second book in her NOT series but stands well on it's own.
If you have read and enjoyed the first book ‘Not you again’ in this series than I’m sure that you will enjoy this story ‘Not playing fair’ too. I enjoyed them both very much! But if you are new to this series, don’t worry, this story can be read as a standalone. However, the first book is great too so why not start there. Maybe good to know, just like the first book, this story is a slow burn, ‘clean’ romance story, there are no sex scenes in the story. But I still enjoyed every minute of it. The story is told from Megan’s POV.
In the first book we were introduced to the five friends Becca, Josie, Donna, Megan and Lindsey. Where we saw Becca found love in the first story, now it’s Megan’s turn to find love. It was great to see the other four girls again in this story. I loved how they are always there for each other, in good times and bad. It’s also always entertaining with them.
Megan may see herself as boring but she’s a wonderful character, she’s friendly, intelligent and caring. She was very protective of her father, her friends and her work in the library. Her mother left her and her father when Megan was young and although her father loved her very much and gave her a great childhood. This still left a wound on Megan’s heart.
Ryan was a great character too, I would describe him more like a beta guy then alpha but he was still protective and supportive towards Megan. He was confident but with a touch of insecurity now and then. Megan and Ryan were great together.
‘Not playing fair’ is a sweet and fun read with just enough of an emotional touch to make it more interesting and entertaining. Just like in the first story, there were some funny scenes in it, that had me smiling but the story also had an emotional subject in it. How it feels to be abandoned by one of your parents. How it affects your past and the present.
I’m really enjoying this series and I look forward to the next book in this series.
It never rains, it pours, is the epitome of Librarian Megan Knox's life. In this lighthearted comedy, it is fair to say that Megan has had more than her share of curveballs and as she faces each of them, she finds her courage deserting her. Whilst I could chuckle as the events in her life mounted up, I also felt her anguish and the very real fear of facing possible disaster. Through it all, Megan has friends, both old and new, that stand by her and ultimately make up for the losses she has experienced. The plot is well written and fairly fast-paced. Written in the first person, I felt all of Megan's emotions and as romance appears once more on her horizon, I also felt her dread when it looked as if it would evade her. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I didn't absolutely love this as I am not a fan of insta romance, it would have been better if Ryan and Megan had known each other already and were now reconnecting but I have a hard time believing that people might get smitten with each other with a single look.
Megan's past, although sad as heck, didn't really resonate with me and I didn't like the siblings reconnecting plot as well. I felt like we didn't get to see enough of any of the characters to really get invested in their storylines - Megan's dad and Vanessa, Rachel and even Fiona's part seemed unnecessary to me.
Plus all the misunderstandings between Megan and Ryan could have been easily resolved if they just communicated with each other and the whole reason they lied to each other for seemed quite absurb to me.
I thought this book was sweet and fun to read! Megan is mostly happy with her life but lately she's been getting hit by some serious curveballs. I enjoyed how Megan and Ryan meet, but soon some things come to light and Megan has to stand up for herself. She has a great support system behind her and her friends are fun! They are there for her when she needs them the most, but she also isn't a weakling. I liked her strength and her ability to work through her problems. Ryan is a bonus she never expected. I enjoyed the flow of this story, the budding romance and the power of friends and family. I didn't want to put this book down!
Megan Knox is a 32 year old librarian. This is her story. But also the story of so many women today. Terri Osburn took us through Megan's adult life, her ups and her downs. She showed us how wonderful it is to have this boisterous group of friends who are with you every step of the way, not just through the good times, but they are ready to hide the body when the need comes as well.
Megan grew strength in this story. Through all the trials and tribulations she went through I do believe she showed us who she really was and where her inner strength was as well.
All at the same time her life was falling down around her. She played softball, and on that team was her ex who had broken up with her 8 months prior. But it was the fact that he new girlfriend was also on the team now too. At work her boss had told things were going to be changing, what he really meant was he was going to be lying so he would get his way with getting rid of programs at the library that he didn't like.
Her mother that she hasn't seen in decades sends her a letter, which she doesn't want to open, and doesn't right away. Her dad is now dating which is weird but she will be happy as long as he is. One good thing might be happening, she met a kind, cute man.
Ryan Stallings is new to town, has only been there for a few months. He is a consultant but doesn't usually tell people right away for fear of their reaction. He has a boxer named Wendy and seems to be close to his sister.
Megan & Ryan meet at the ball park, they both play on the same team. Its a rough start to their friendship/relationship but they get through it. They are having a good time and getting along well. But you seem Megan lied, when they first met she told Ryan she worked in a book store, just so he wouldn't think she was a boring person if she said she was a librarian, she planned to tell him if things were working out. Well she hadn't had the chance yet. So when things happened that put them together and him finding out, she found out that she wasn't the only one not being 100% honest.
Find out about Megan and Ryan when you read this book, I'm sure you will enjoy this book as much as I have.
I will admit when I first started reading the book it was a slow go, but as I got further it changed things. I'm definitely glad I read it. It turned out to be a good book. I have enjoyed every single one of Ms. Osburn's book's and I am looking forward to the next. I just wish there wasn't so much time between them.
Disclosure: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. A positive review is not required

Megan Knox loves her quiet librarian life, contented to stay within her small county's library when she could move to a bigger and cosmopolitan city branch. When an unexpected consultant comes into town to audit the library she is working at, Megan's peaceful life turns upside down and beyond her control.
Not Playing Fair is told from a first-person POV - Megan's, which could be a plus. The author focuses readers into Megan's head so as not to give too many "insider details" that would later significantly impact many revelations in the end. I love her character a lot - she's spunky when the situation calls for it, mostly when she is "fighting for a cause." But that's the best part of character development - realizing that "bigger issues" affect more people than herself and that she is tired of being a pushover.
The saying "it always comes in 3's" holds true. A barrage of things came tumbling unto Megan's world, and I confess that even I was overwhelmed. Her personal, professional, and past collide! I was surprised that she was composed enough to eliminate one problem at a time. She was brave when needed, even if she was fearful on the inside.
Megan's character is a rational (enough), thoughtful and intelligent woman. She is honest (most of the time) and has a solid support group of gal pals and family who made sure she is safe and cared for, given her dysfunctional background. I liked how she handled her professional problem(s) - covertly by exposing the culprit systematically and how she handled herself with her bosses when everything blew up.
Megan's personal life is also calling her attention:- from family drama imploding to conflicts between two men vying for her attention! The former problem caused a lot of trauma throughout Megan's life that I was mad with Megan's mom's decision more than a decade ago! All this still haunts her at thirty years old. Now, the family problem - man - too much angst initially, but I am so glad that Megan toughened herself in the end to handle everything. It was written perfectly in the end. The more interesting problem is between Megan, her ex Fletcher, and a potential suitor Ryan. Fletcher's tactic of spreading misinformation about him and Megan did not help his image to everything. I am glad that not a lot of their friends took Fletcher's words seriously. The problem was Ryan believed it, and when it came time for Megan and him to start anything, it was all on the wrong foot. Note that both Ryan and Megan have their share of faults and flaws in handling everything in this case. Both kept things from each other that would have avoided a "re-do" not once, twice, but three times! Misunderstandings and pride did not help. Ryan was indeed hurt, but he was not blameless, so I was mad (a bit) at him too. It's good that Megan and Ryan's family and friends somehow "pushed" them into getting things clear up the air once and for all.
I love the humor in the book. Many comedic moments made the book a fun and enjoyable read. The personality of Megan and her gal pals are infectious! Her friends make the book exciting and funny - everyone was ready to defend and protect her, even if she is very capable of doing it herself. I believe that the humor made the changes around Megan more bearable and the stressful parts lighter somehow.
In conclusion, Not Playing Fair is a charming and cute read. It may look simple at first glance, but layered with a lot of angst, drama, abandonment, loss, etc. It may surprise readers that the love story is only a tiny part of the book. Megan uncovers more suspense and uncertainty as the story progresses - sinister, surprising, and suspenseful. The ending is full of revelations, confessions, and forgiveness, which will surely make readers love all the characters.
Terri Osburn has given her readers another incredible romantic comedy! I absolutely LOVED Not Playing Fair the second book her The NOT series. It was an incredible story and I loved reading every moment on every page and could not put it down. She provided her readers with the amazing characters, that I loved, who feel like close friends! Terri Osburn continues to show with Not Playing Fair that she is a wonderful storyteller. Who doesn't love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families and friends, who always support one another, they are all such wonderful characters? Her characters in Not Playing Fair are so believable and charming, they share great chemistry, and lots of laughs. Not Playing Fair delivers all those things that I love most about romantic comedies. I love that Terri Osburn writes from the first-person point of view of the main female character. I enjoy getting to see things from her viewpoints. Not Playing Fair is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Not Playing Fair is filled with all those things that I have come to love in a romantic comedy love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Not Playing Fair is a love at first sight love story, and is the story of Megan Knox, librarian, and Ryan Stallings, consultant. Megan and Brian meet at softball practice, and seem to hit it off, until Megan’s former boyfriend, Fletcher says something to Ryan that changes his attitude about Megan. When introducing themselves to each other, neither one of them is truthful about their professions, which are revealed during a chance encounter. Becca is facing a dilemma, she has received a letter in the mail from her mother, who she hasn’t seen or talked to since she left home when Megan was seven. After Megan confronts Ryan about what happened after the last practice, she sets things right, by asking Fletcher’s new girlfriend, who is also on the softball team, how long they were dating. Ryan and Megan spend time together, but something happens that keeps them apart. Ryan volunteers to read the letter from Geraldine, Megan’s mother, and she discovers a life changing news. After learning that her father has finally decided to start dating again, Nessa, a woman he works with, Megan did not involve him with the interactions with her mother. Megan does not share the letter from her mother with her father, she does not want to influence his dating life. Then an unexpected plot twist changes things for Megan, and she reaches out to her father for support. I love the heart-to-heart conversation that Megan had with her father. I loved both Megan’s and Ryan’s reactions when they each discovered that they did not tell the truth about their professions for very similar reasons. I love Megan and Ryan’s love story, and how Megan shows her vulnerable side. I love the amazing chemistry among all the characters. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Not Playing Fair, the characters feel like family and friends. I loved the friendship between Josie, Becca, Donna, Lindsey, and Megan, they proved to Megan that she could always count on them. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? As a Pittsburgher, my favorite part are all the references to Pittsburgh in the story. Not Playing Fair is filled with all those things that I love in a romantic comedy, incredible characters, amazing story, light, poignant and bittersweet moments, and plot twists. Terri Osburn did not disappoint in her delivery of those things. I love how she resolved the plot twist; it was truly a heartwarming moment. My favorite part of the book was the epilogue, I truly love how it went above and beyond the happily ever after. I loved Ryan’s birthday gift to Megan, it was one of my favorite moments. I am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series. It was an amazing story and I highly recommend it.

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of Not Playing Fair, provided by Grey's Promotions, and the views expressed are my honest opinions. While it is the second book in the Not Series, each book can be read as a standalone.
The book follows Megan Knox, a quiet, “boring” librarian who is determined to maintain her place in the winning softball team of the league, even if it means to play in close proximity with her ex and his new girlfriend. On the first day of practice, she meets Ryan Stallings, a handsome, new member of the team who seems to find her just as interesting. However, the course of a new relationship might not be as straightforward as it may seem. Add to that a pain-in-the-backside boss who seems to be backstabbing his own personnel, an ex who keeps sending mixed signals, a mysterious letter by an estranged parent, lies of omission and some clearly unfortunate events to keep the readers hooked until the end.
This is my first Terri Osburn book and I found it really sweet. I was able to follow the storyline, despite it being part of a series. There were some parts of the book which I thought of being repetitive and dragging, however I later realized they were building up to certain points of turmoil in Megan’s life and her relationship with some family members. While Megan and Ryan were cute together, I felt that they had too many mishaps and do-overs for such a short period. Still, Not Playing Fair proved to be an entertaining read and gives the reader much to think about, especially since it highlights the importance one needs to give oneself and one’s self-worth and that family does not always mean by blood but by loyalty. I will definitely give the other books in the series a go.
Not Playing Fair is the second book in the NOT series by Terri Osburn, but it can be read as a complete stand alone if you want. The story is told entirely from the POV of the heroine Megan- and while I typically like the back and forth perspective of dual POV, the single POV worked well for this story.
This book was fun and captivated my attention pretty well for a sweet/clean romance story. Megan was just fine and happy until life started throwing curveballs at her from all angles- her ex suddenly being needy and interested again, trouble at her job, a sudden communication from her mother that she hasn't heard from in 20 years and to top it off she meets this great new guy on her softball team which is the only part that isn't too bad.
Megan's story really is about her finding confidence and happiness in herself and what she loves- and once she is ok with that the rest of life kind of falls into place. I loved Megan's group of friends and no matter how different they were- they were all so supportive of each other. Megan's relationship with her father was so sweet and I love how she handled and accepted the changes in their relationship. But really the slow build up to her potential relationship with Ryan was the best- there was humor and disaster, misunderstandings and forgiveness and just so much sweetness to them both that you couldn't help but to root for them.
As my first book from this author, I really enjoyed the world she built, the surprise elements thrown in and the characters- and I am excited to go back and read the first book of this series as well as the books to come.
Megan Knox is a librarian with a special love for the children’s reading program. Actually, she loves almost everything about being a librarian, the one exception to her love being the branch manager. He seems not to like people—which to Megan’s mind is the most important thing about being a librarian. When he informs her that budget cuts are coming and instructs her to make a list of library programs with all the details for the consultant coming to evaluate where cuts can be made, she’s really troubled. So… When she rushes off that afternoon for softball practice, she might not have had her mind totally on what she was doing. Which could explain why she let her trunk lid come down on her head and why she swung around so fast she slugged a Good Samaritan in the stomach with her bat.
Ryan Stallings, the Good Samaritan in question took the poke with the bat in stride—after he caught his breath. He likes her right off the bat, so to speak. But their relationship seems fraught with mishaps. Along the way—between misunderstandings and near-death experiences—they discover how much they have in common. But will it be enough to bring them together for good?
What great characters and an engrossing plot. Ms. Osburn has built a world of friends that shine and a realistic story line that keeps the pages turning. I loved Not Playing Fair from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
Between trying to prevent funding cuts for critical programs at work, playing on a new softball team with the ex-boyfriend who'd dumped her a few months earlier, and dealing with unexpected family drama, librarian Megan Knox had more than enough on her plate. When she hit it off with handsome new teammate Ryan Stallings, however, she couldn't help wanting to see where things might go with him. The problem? When they first met, Megan told a little white lie about where she worked because she didn't want Ryan to think of her as a "boring" librarian, and as time went on, it became increasingly difficult for her to find a way to tell him the truth.
First, I have to say that I loved how authentically Pittsburgh this book was. I spent a lot of time in the Pittsburgh area when I was growing up because my grandparents lived there, so the author's mentions of Mount Washington, the Point, and Eat'n Park plus the occasional use of "yinz" (the Pittsburgh version of "y'all") were like a trip down memory lane for me. Beyond that, the twists and turns related to Megan's family situation were my favorite part of the book and definitely kept me turning the pages. To me, the romance felt like a bit of an afterthought in comparison with everything else Megan was dealing with, but I liked Megan and Ryan together, and despite the initial hiccups in their relationship, they seemed to be headed in the right direction based on the events of the epilogue.
Overall, "Not Playing Fair" was a fast-paced, engrossing read and I highly recommend it for chick lit, contemporary romance, and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to the next book in the series. Megan's sweet, supportive best friends were a lot of fun and will make great lead characters in future stories.
*Review copy provided by the author/publisher via Grey's Promotions. All opinions expressed are my own.
Everything seems to be going Megan’s way until suddenly it’s not. Her new boss is trying to make drastic changes at her job, she finally made the softball team she wanted only to find out her ex and his new girlfriend are her teammates, and the worst is that a letter arrived from her estranged mother. Talk about taking the hits. The only positive is the new guy on her softball team. But Megan needs to confess that she bent the truth before he finds out and it’s too late.
I was not expecting this story. I was so pleasantly surprised by it. It’s a sweet slow burn. Megan is a librarian and while she loves her job, most people don’t really get that and it can cause issues. The same can be said for other jobs and that’s important to remember. I loved how this story really focused on being true to yourself and being comfortable with that. I also really appreciated the focus on family and friendships as well as forgiveness.
This is the second book in the “Not” series and you can read them as standalones or in order. There is a few fill in references to the first book so I had an understanding of what happened and now want to go back and read the first book.
Thank you @greyspromo for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
I did enjoy this book, but have a few little technical criticisms. It could just be me but Megan’s age seemed to change. At first she was 7 when her mother left, 20 years ago and then suddenly her mother left 23 years ago, so in my head she went from 27 to 30! Rereading the blurb it does say she hasn’t seen her mother in more than 20 years, but I feel that should be clearer.
Also, if her dad was 18 when she was born, how can his girlfriend (who is only 2 years older than him) have two kids older than Megan? She would have been in her mid teens when she had them! I may have read that wrong but I’m sure it said her kids were older than Megan.
Also, why mention that Cassie ‘might’ be her father’s child and then never explore that? And suddenly when she meets Luke it’s casually mentioned he and Cassie are twins? Why isn’t that mentioned before, because that also makes him potentially her father’s child - given that her mother’s next husband adopted Cassie, so she (and her twin, if they are twins) could potentially be Megan’s full siblings. I feel like that is an important piece of the story that isn’t expanded on. And why not?
It all kind of got tidied up very quickly at the end, but without resolution of those details.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Enjoyed Megan and Ryan's story. She really showed how strong she was when her life was falling apart. They met at the ball park and ended up playing on the same team. There was a twist that I definitely didn't see coming.
Not Playing Fair by Terri Osburn, book two in The Not series, is an emotional, wonderful, heartwarming, sweet romance about dealing with the life you are dealt and how it affects your future, decisions you make, discovering your inner strength, and finding the power of forgiveness.
Megan Knox is a quiet, “boring” librarian, determined to maintain her place in the winning softball team of the league, even if she has to play with her ex and his new girlfriend. On the first day of practice, she meets Ryan Stallings, a handsome, new member of the team who finds her interesting. As Megan and Ryan attempt to date, everything goes wrong that could go wrong. Yet, Ryan, a sweetie, is up to the challenge of taking care of Megan and being there for her. Life is never simple, nor fair, and this new relationship might not be as smooth-sailing as it appears. Then there is Megan’s pain-in-the-rear boss who seems to be backstabbing his own personnel, her ex who keeps sending mixed signals, a mysterious letter from her estranged mother, lies of omission and a few other unfortunate and unexpected events to keep things hopping. Fortunately for Megan, she has a group of supportive friends, always there for her, as well as an amazing bond with her father; willing to help Megan work through the difficulties life presents to her.
Ms. Osborn wrote a wonderful, emotional, and heartwarming story that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, strong chemistry, realistic situations, the magic of friends and love, and charming characters giving Megan and Ryan a chance at love, happiness, and a future neither expected. I highly recommend Not Playing Fair to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This book is so much more than a romance. The author takes you on a journey through Megan's life ... with all her ups and downs. From her mother walking out on her and her dad when she was seven years old to finding her own voice and standing up for herself and the things she is passionate about. Megan is the type of character that everyone should aspire to be like. Even though her ex-boyfriend shoves his new love interest down her throat by them joining the same softball team that Megan is on, Megan takes the higher road by not freaking out and being civil toward them. But when he trys to sabatosh a budding relationship, Megan lets him have it. And Ryan ... what a sweetheart. Even though his first few encounters with Megan are disasterous, he doesn't give up because he can see that she is special. I laughed-out-loud at Megan and Ryan's first date ... just wait till you read it. A great read and I can't wait till the next book in the series.
I received an early copy courtesy of Grey's Promotions in exchange for a honest review.
This was a really good book. It deals with Megan, a librarian, who has been dealing with several things in her life that are challenging. She has a new boss who won't fight for the programs that are near and dear to her and she's playing on a baseball team with her ex and his new girlfriend.
There is a new player on the team and Ryan seems to be interested in her. There are several mishaps and misunderstandings along the way to what could be a relationship that make is seem impossible for it to go anywhere. Ryan is really adorable and so very supportive of her, even after he's seen her at her worst. But what if they can't get around the little white lies and misunderstandings? Will it be over before it really begins?
I totally loved Ryan (most of the time). He and Megan were so cute together! I also loved that Megan (the librarian) was a fantastic baseball player. Put those men in their places, Megan! Not Playing Fair was a fun and very worthwhile read.
I was gifted a copy of this book via Grey's Promotions. All thoughts are my own.
Megan may think she leads the quiet life of a librarian, but there’s an awful lot going on in the pages of this story. She’s got a new boss, who’s quite a jerk. And ex who shows up on her softball team…with his new squeeze. A surprise piece of mail from someone she hasn’t heard from in years. And we can’t forget the one bright spot…a very nice, attractant named Ryan, who is new in town and also on her team. Megan’s life is about to get complicated! Terri Osborn did a great job weaving all these little threads into an interesting and entertaining sweet romance book. I really liked Megan; she was a mixture of both confidence and vulnerability. Ryan a great character who shared much of the same traits as Megan, but I think she was a bit more straightforward than he was. Their interactions were sweet, with a touch of heat that was mostly hinted at, which I thought was appropriate for both their personalities and the story. There were a few ah-ha moments…one I saw coming, one I did not, that kept the reader on their toes. All in all, it was a quick and satisfying read.
Megan is a girl who sees herself as boring but she's got so much heart that she could never be boring. She would do anything for those she loves without blinking an eye that's for sure. She's definitely going through the fire at this particular time in her life, and man I wanted to hurt people on her behalf LOL! Ryan is a possible love interest IF the drama in her life will actually let up since he had an issue or two with insecurity to be honest. Megan also has a great group of friends that I truly fell in love with, so the story had some entertaining humor in the pages with a kicker of emotion. So I found myself smiling, and then feeling sad for some of the demons this couple had because of what they endured in their lives. Not Playing Fair is pretty much a lighthearted read at the end of the day because the emotion doesn't overwhelm the readers despite a difficult subject or two so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is the second book in this series by this author. This is the story of Megan and Ryan, these two characters have a great strength to them and work well together. Their romance builds as you read beautifully. This book is one of those books that just suck you into its pages from the start. This author has an amazing talent of bringing you just what you need, amazing well developed characters, hot and sexy males and strong female leads. This story has heartbreaking moments, hot and steamy scenes and lots of chemistry. This is an amazing addition to this series from this author.
This was a cute story. It hit somewhat close to home as I'm a retired librarian as well as a former library trustee, so I'm well aware of having budget issues. Megan Knox is a librarian who has been running successful library programs for many age groups for many years, including some programs that have been going almost since the formation of the library 100+ years ago. She's also just been dumped by her BF. She meets a new guy while playing on an inter-library baseball team, and they are immediately intrigued by each other. When she finds out he's the consultant the new head librarian has hired, and that he's cutting a lot of programs, smoke starts coming out of her ears. Once they work out why neither one told the other the truth about their jobs, all is resolved -- and the head librarian is dust!
Not Playing Fair was an adorable book that had just enough drama that I was unable to put it down till I finished!
Megan reminded me of myself in the sense that I don't have a lot of drama but when I do, man it feels like my whole life blows up. Megan's life went from zero to crazy in less than a week and I loved all the different parts of her story. While it was a lot, none of her storylines were out of ordinary or insane.
While we didn't get to see Ryan's point of view, he had some redeeming qualities along with a few issues we all expect. Ryan doesn't handle lying that well and doesn't seem to like communication all the time. This causes problems between Ryan and Megan as Megan's ex comes in and starts drama over and over again. It was fun reading their story and finding out how and if Megan and Ryan solve their issues!!
Megan is happy with her uneventful life as she has surrounded herself with a great group of friends and enjoys her career as the town librarian. When she meets Ryan, a sexy stranger, who happens to be playing on the same soft ball team as her she had no idea the upheaval that would go along with it as neither of them have been completely honest with the other.
If that isn’t complicating enough Megan is also having to deal with a spiteful ex, turbulence at work and family revelations all while she pursues a relationship with Ryan that is filled with surprises and misunderstandings.
Fun and flirty I enjoyed watching the relationship unfold between Ryan and Megan as well as seeing the deep friendships and love for her father. No matter what life threw at her she always had people supporting her and that is what makes this story so heartwarming.
