I am a geek with a passion for God [I am a fulltime Presbyterian Pastor/Retired computer programmer.]
I'm an unrepentant technologist with over 25 years in the "Information Technology" field -much of it as a Senior Manager of Research and Development.
I have a wonderful wife named Lori, and two fantastic daughters... CJ and Jackie. CJ is ten years the elder and is in college (Muskingum University, New Concord Ohio).
All four of us love Science Fiction, Scuba Diving and good food. Lori and the girls share a passion for music and the piano - regrettably I have absolutely no skills in this area. I do have a passion for Notre Dame and Green Bay Packer Football.
About my writing...
My current passion is a pure Science Fiction series following the adventures of a future "Horatio Hornblower" style character called "Admiral Catherine Kimbridge". I have also co-authored a fantasy series with my eldest daughter (CJ) called "The Ways of Mages"
PLEASE NOTE: All of the proceeds from the first book in each series goes to funding food banks and homeless ministries... So enjoy an inexpensive read and know that you are helping someone else in the process!
This is the 3rd of a Military Sci-Fi trilogy that started off very good and then failed to grow. If you get this far, it is worth finishing, but don’t expect it to be as good. The snark that was so much fun in the first installment descended into an avalanche of pop culture references (Star Trek, Dune, Aliens, et al) and testosterone laden witticisms that eventually irritated more than entertained. In fact, the entire Hollingsworth arc was just plain stupid and actually highlights a lot of the crude innuendo that was actually pretty cringe worthy.
The basic story was less military and more an attempt humorous alien first contact that didn’t work at all for me. Add to that a main character that is eventually revealed as a mary sue that has a hand full of doctoral degrees along with significant space fighter experience and decades of large space ship experience that allows her to pretty much dominate an alien scourge that was previously unstoppable in a a fairly predictable (and somewhat sudden and unsatisfactory) conclusion. In fact, the whole galaxy hates me trope was way over done here and only served to allow the MC to strut her stuff.
I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
On most if not all complicate space opera’s authors love to blow our brains out by making things so complicated that at times it take hours to understand the mechanics of it all. Not with the author Andrew Beery ! This trilogy got it all, aliens, space ships, worm holes or space jumps, awesome ancient technology, time itself and a great story. on top of it all the author runs with it making it all so enjoyable without crunching our brains for ours at a time just pure fun !
On top of it choosing Dave Cruse to narrate it all into a perfect packaging of a trilogy of three excellent audiobooks.
Much appreciations for this beautifully written story which I absolutely without a doubt fully recommend for all science fiction lovers !!!
Once again, I liked this next part in the story. Don't know if there's more in this series/universe, but if so, I'd sure like to read them. This is the type of story I really like to read, and I enjoyed it. Most scifi fans should enjoy this series. The problem with the ending of this one is there's next to no closure of the plotlines raised during the series, so that's why I would expect more in the series. Other than that, the story is a good one, and iI liked it.
This book was wrapped up too quickly. A totally unsatisfactory ending. What about the colonist on survey one,? Where is their new home? What happened to the rest of the aggressors? There are a lot of unfinished things in this book. Left open ended.
This has been an easy to read and hard to put down novel and series. Great action and character building. If you want spaceships, aliens and human AI interactions then this is it.
I need more of Admiral Dare. Love the specs of humor all through the storie. The End seemed a bit open so i'm crossing my fingers that we'll have more books.
