The global war is over, but a new threat to human civilization has emerged.
What the threat is exactly no one knows, yet the Britannic Alliance is doing all it can to protect Earth. A new starship capable of interstellar travel, the Dauntless, is under construction.
Meanwhile, Taylan Ellis’s search for her children continues. She must get to Australia to help in the hunt for the Crusader child traffickers, but she can’t even afford the ticket.
Will the Dauntless save Earth? Will Taylan be reunited with her kids? What is the connection?
The Dauntless is book five in the epic space fantasy adventure, Star Legend. Complete series.
J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.
Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Merlin and Morgan intervene during starship voyage - 4.5 stars
After traipsing around looking for Taylin's children, Major Wright and King Arthur exit earth for the nearest star at ten times the speed of light. While the premise of a future earth inhabited by King Arthur and the British Alliance seems a bit far-fetched, it works well while confined to earth including a search mission in Australia's outback.
The best part of the book occurs in describing a search for missing children in the barren Outback. Traveling with King Arthur is done quite well including some scenes in which characters seem to arrive at the right place in spite of themselves. Arthur's tracking skills from his early quests are depicted without magic. There is a nice sequence of motorbike riding that is not to be missed.
The second half of the story takes place in space, mostly at speeds much faster than light with an invasion of apparitions that seem all too real. Mental space sickness leads to increasingly fantastic events as the Dauntless closes in on the start nearest to earth.
The most realistic part of this adventure is the stress and the relationships that are in play when 200 people travel at relativistic speeds. People are disoriented in a long space voyage resulting in people becoming unhinged; it should not be a surprise that the spacecraft is attacked by supernatural beings. Morgan La Fay's power and Merlin's magic are on display.
This book carries the action in 2 parts from the end of the fighting to the beginning of the end of the whole story. As always, wonderful details, good action (low-key and high-key) and scenes which give you a sense of being embedded in the story. Taylan wants to head to Australia to find her children but suddenly Arthur , being tired of being a political figurehead, declares he's coming along -- which turns out to be a beneficial arrangement since they now have full military backing. In a huge, hot, dry desert, Taylan needs all the help she can get! The children have quite a story to tell when they are finally found. -- Book 2 moves to the new flagship Dauntless, where Major Wright, Kala Orr and the military leadership are preparing for a mission to interstellar space to discover more about the aliens like Merlin and Morgan. Mysterious, wispy figures - or creatures? - suddenly start to haunt certain people. Kala Orr makes trouble, the ship is attacked ... sorry, read the book for more! Some loose ends are tied up and the rest are promised in the next and final book. A thread running throughout is Arthur's idea that there is a pattern to life, and each must play their part. -- I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
This Is A Movie or TV Worthy Series That Sci-Fi Lovers Must Read.
THE DAUNTLESS is the fifth installment in the epic space fantasy adventure, Star Legend series by J.J. Green. Just like the other installments this is a fast moving, complex and gripping story. I recommend this series for all ages that enjoy Space Operas and battle stories. The Alliance has won the war and now turns its resources to finding out more about and where the aliens Merlin and Morgana came from.
With Arthur's help Taylon has made it to Australia to find her children. With the help of an Aboriginal, Taylon and Arthur discover an abandoned Cultists camp along with a horrifying discovery.
At the same time, the Alliance has outfitted a battle Cruiser with an FTL drive to seek out the aliens that made Earth and its people their game and whatever may be out there. They want everyone on board that Merlin and Morgana interacted with including an uncooperative Dwyr Orr. What else could they find in this unexplored space?
JJ Green has knocked another terrific story out of the universe. I did receive a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the fifth book in the Star Legend series and is the continuing story of King Arthur, Taylan Ellis and Major Wright. Along with Kala Orr, we meet up with several other characters that have appeared in the previous four books.
Reading this story was like meeting up with old friends and finding out how they had been since I last met them. Unfortunately, not all of the other characters are as friendly.
As with all good stories, the end came all too quickly and now I find that I have to wait again for some time before the sixth, and final, book of the series, The Defiant, is written.
I would urge you to indulge in reading this whole series as it is spellbinding. Pardon the pun.
I have now read all of this series. As a voracious reader I have read all genres. Sci-fi has always been my go to for escaping the daily grind. With that said I have found J.J. Green to be an extremely talented writer. Her sagas have outstanding character development. I find myself identifying with certain characters and becoming vested in their life’s. I was so enthralled with this series that I read the dauntless in two marathon sittings. When I began this series I had reservations about sci-fi having certain mythical? Characters. I was wrong. As the series developed it all fell into place. You can not go wrong with J.J. Green.
The first part of this book covers Taylan's continuing search for her missing children - following a more promising lead on the other side of the Earth. In her search she is accompanied by Arthur, who is weary of his figurehead position in the new BI. The second half has Wright on a new ftl ship, the titular Dauntless on an interstellar mission...
After the revelations at the end of book 4 things are slowly settling down but there is no slackening of narrative pace. Even when separated Taylan and Wright seem destined to be together... The series is obviously working towards an ending but there is still a lot to be explained and worked out!
I read this book in under eight hours, and I ate it up! This is the latest in the series, and I’ve enjoyed them all. The author has outdone herself with this novel. She has tied many loose ends together, but unraveled even more! Some of the main characters actually left the heliosphere this time, and man, was it strange…. I read an advance copy and STRONGLY recommend it and the entire series.

The other books have followed multiple significant characters while this one has limited it to 2 leads. This book reads a little differently but is totally justified.
I love the characters, even the evil ones. They help the good and the heroes shine. I love the relationships, all kinds of them. The story has brought me this far without effort. It has lots of things meshed into an epic series. It has class, empathy and understanding. Even in space.
JJ Green writes a masterful story combining tales of old with futuristic voyages. Her smooth style can't be resisted as you read further and further along an exciting and unpredictable storyline with endings that satisfy. I have always enjoyed her writing and this series is one of her best!
The synopsis of the first book grabbed me from the start! So original, so well written, that I couldn’t stop reading! Can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens to Arthur, Taylan, Wright & the horrible, manipulated Kala Orra!
In Short, a Must Read by a Master Author who knows how to Build Characters an Combine them in a Cannot Be Beaten Story. In Short to my Favourite Author - Please Keep up the Good Work
