What a pleasant surprise this book was! From the previous book, I knew I’d love Lars, the big Thor guy who’s shy and nice, if socially awkward. I never imagined the authors would throw more at me, and I fell in love with him.
But he’s Sheridan’s, completely. She was also an interesting character, the ex plus sized model suffering from a back injury and running from an abusive agent. I just felt too much pity for her, because shit kept piling up. She’s fighting though, and that was a good thing to see. In the end, she doesn’t even need a man to save her, she just needs his support. That was inspirational.
They complemented each other, and they had so much admiration–and attraction–for each other, that they made an endearing couple.
If Sheridan kept to herself and was surrounded by only a few people, Lars had the whole Mavericks team behind him. There were many scenes where he interacts with them, in his very Lars way sure, but you could feel the respect and love his teammates had for him. And it was nice to see him with Annalise–Wes and Hadley’s adoptive daughter, from the previous book. Did I mention how much I loved Lars already?
As a hockey romance fan, I was very happy to see a lot of action on the ice. And when I say action, it wasn’t just some back and forth with the puck. More MMA than hockey, actually. But they were powerful scenes, and I won’t say why because I don’t want to spoil too much of the story. Or at all.
Lars and Sheridan were a unique couple, with a never boring story. Be prepared for some serious angst, rightful anger, though, but so much swoon too.

The
magic
continues with this powerhouse author team!
Hard Limit gave me all the tingles in my feelings and captured my heart from the start! There’s a whole lot of #RealLife happening in these pages, and it is one of the very best things about these two authors. They develop stories true to life that are relatable and realistic.
I was at a loss on my feelings when I read the first book in this series and this book is not making the words flow either LOL I think the reason I don’t know what to say is that the story is all consuming in its greatness more than anything else. There is depth and layers to not just the story as it progresses, but also the characters. The growth is exponential as the journey moves along and it is just so real to life that I felt like I was in an angst vice that just would not let go. It was powerful and beautiful and just … GAH, everyone just #oneclick and be done with it! K, thanks!

Brenda Rothert is a go to for me! I really enjoyed this book, as I always do when I read her words. Not to mention I love the hockey boys! Of all the stories I read - I enjoy that the story line is fresh and something I haven't read before.

I have nephew on the spectrum so it's treated well here for our Lars. Sheridan actually has much more angst with almost ex-husband but she's also awesome 👍😎

Oh my, what a wonderful book!! I guess that is what I should expect when Brenda and Kat get their beautiful minds together. I just wonder how they come up with this stuff. I mean this heroine, Sheridan, has to be the strongest ever, she gets put through some serious stuff and comes out of it stronger. The hero took a bit for me to warm up to, but I did love that Lars in the end. The story was gripping, with a bunch of turning points and plots twists that you never see coming. ALL with a bunch of hockey, what else could this hockey romance girl ask for.

Another good edition to the St. Louis Mavericks. This one is also a little emotional but I didn't find it as emotional as book 1. Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera have given us a sports/hockey romance but it is deeper than that. We face issues of abuse, disability, disease, and distrust. But it's all softened up and wrapped up around a team that is more like a family.
If you like sports romance and would like something a little deeper I recommend giving this one a try.
If you don't like to get too caught up in emotions don't worry there are a lot of light-hearted fun moments and some nice hot moments to go with it too. I particularly love the Maverick group texts. Lars and Sheridan have plenty of chemistry to meet your spice requirements.
I fell in love a little with the awkward Lars in book one with the way he is with Annalise and to see more of him and get behind his inner workings was a real joy. Sheridan is truly perfect for him.
Sheridan is still recovering from her accident over a year ago and this is the first time she has let her best friend drag her back into the public eye. But a charity bachelor auction for a good cause seems like a good reason to get back out there.
When Lars is up on the auction block she can't help herself. She bids an outrageous amount for one date with the Thor-like hockey hottie. Their first date is a little awkward and Sheridan gets the impression Lars isn't really into her, but it's just the way Lars is. He doesn't show a lot of emotion, he's quiet and likes to keep to himself. The night ends with Lars showing her just how much he does like her.
Lars kind of blows it the after the first night. Understanding the workings of people isn't really his thing and while he thought he was doing the right thing Sheridan felt ghosted. With the help of his teammates, he manages to make things right and gets another chance with Sheridan. Lars makes more mistakes though but Sheridan is able to look beyond his odd ways and see a man who is protective, caring and makes her feel special.
Sheridan has a lot going on though, her ex is doing everything he can to ruin her career, her company, and her life. She worries Lars will be in the firing line and isn't quite sure how to tell him how bad it is.
Meanwhile, Lars is dealing with his own drama. An ex-teammate has lashed out at the team, in particular Lars. It makes him look into himself and question everything he knows about the way he is. He is conflicted and really doesn't know how to handle the situation. He's feeling more lost and out of sorts than normal.
Just when he plans to share it all with Sheridan her secrets are exposed and he is left feeling hurt and lost. Truth is a big deal for him and Sheridan's secrest makes him feel like he has done the wrong thing.
Can either get past the hurt they caused each other? How will Sheridan cope when her ex gets what he wanted all along?

A hockey-filled supermodel/pro athlete romance…
And it was glorious! I loved everything about this story. Everything…
From Lars, the super talented, quiet hockey player who’s life was upended by Sheridan… And Sheridan, beautiful but not looking for love, whose chaotic life was sent into another spin by Lars. Delightfully so.
A charity auction brought them together and, despite betrayals and the messed up stuff we call life, they bonded over it all. What could have easily forced them apart, made their feelings only deepen. Missteps aplenty, I loved the way they worked through things as mature adults. I loved the switching point of views as it let my heart feel, their swirling thoughts and raw emotions. What brought them to their knees, buckled my own…
Book two and I’m hoping for at least a dozen more. At least… ~Diane, 5 stars

After reading the first book in this series, and discovering the sweet and caring side of Lars Jansson seen in his interactions with baby Annalise, I couldn't wait to get to know more about the gruff and socially awkward Thor-like giant. And this book definitely didn't disappoint as it beautifully balanced action on the ice with emotionally intense interactions off the ice where the past weighs on two people hoping to make a future together, where each turn of the page amps up the angst.
Lars Jannson is an endearing hero, one who's not good with words but one who always tries to do right. Trying to do right though doesn't make for an easy journey to HEA as the moment he gets paired with a former plus-sized model at a charity auction is the moment everything changes for him. With the help of his teammates (through heartwarming brotherly texts) he makes the most of his chance to tell the emotionally bruised woman of his dreams how he feels in a romance that pulled at my heartstrings. With each moment they spend together the truth of their pasts gets ever closer, leading to lots of introspection for him, and the chance to support Sheridan when she needs him most. I fell hard for Lars as the story progressed, fell for the gentle giant, and he's a delightful addition to the long list of delicious hockey heroes these two authors have crafted over the years.
Sheridan Lee's a wonderful heroine, one you can't help but like and admire after everything that's befallen her throughout the years. She's a former plus-sized model who spent the past year recovering from a career-ending back injury. Behind the facade she shows to the world is a woman haunted by the abuse of her manager though, weighed down by mental and physical abuse that broke my heart. She's finally back on her feet but the scars from her past, those on the inside and outside, still exist and it's just a matter of time before she can no longer keep the past at bay which made for some heart-pounding moments as the story progressed. Sheridan didn't know what to expect when she met Lars. Their first date went a bit awry but from there on out they were a wonderfully entertaining couple. Sweet and sexy interludes were balanced with emotionally engaging talks that pulled me into their strengthening connection and had me rooting for them. Through it all I adored Sheridan and found her to be a heroine who's much tougher than she looks. She got put through the wringer in glimpses of a past that were hurtful to read. But she rose above it, not needing to be saved, but grateful for the unconditional support of the adorable Lars.
As a fan of both of these authors I was impressed by what they created here. It's a sweet and sexy story full of heart and soul. Add in angst, and a compelling past for both lead characters, and you end up with a gripping tale that had me glued to the pages. After reaching the end of this satisfying addition to the St. Louis Mavericks hockey series, I'm left looking forward to what these authors have planned next.

We met Lars in the first book and I think he stole everyone's heart. He's from Sweden and his English is still a bit lacking at time. Because he's a single guy for the St. Louis Mavericks, he gets to be auctioned off for a date for charity. Sheridan is the one who wins a date with Lars. From the moment she saw his picture she wanted to win a date with him. Despite being awkward with dating and relationships, Lars plans a perfect date. And the sparks between are fire. But because Lars is clueless when it comes to relationships, he kind of blows his chance for a second date until his teammates give him advice. He's a wonderful hero and more than lives up to what we hoped for in the previous book.
And Sheridan is an amazing heroine. She's a very well known plus sized super model. She has also founded a very profitable company making gorgeous and sexy lingerie for plus sized women. There is some extremely mutual lusting between she and Lars and I love that he sees her as the most beautiful woman he's ever seen.
There is a LOT of things going on in this story that I'm not saying but it gives the story a depth to it that easily earns it five stars and two thumbs up from me.

Heat & ice ... the perfect combination
From the moment I began reading HARD LIMIT I couldn't put it down; I became invested in two characters who made my heart bleed. If may be listed as a sports romance, but it was so much more than that. Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera's writing was exceptional, the storyline both heartbreaking and inspiring, and the characters were simply sublime.
"I like that you're soft ... And you are also... curved. It's very good."
"I am curved."
Sheridan Lee, former plus-sized top model, successful businesswoman, and determined that relationships are nowhere on her radar. I loved Sheridan, she had a strength and resilience that many women who had suffered what she had wouldn't be able to find. Her positivity was an inspiration ... until she gets knocked down one time too many. Lars Jansson is at the top of his game, a Swedish born hockey player playing for the St. Louis Mavericks. Nicknamed 'Thor' because of his looks, Lars is gentle, kind, caring and has a quirkiness about him that makes him appear gruff, grumpy, and rude at times. Neither Sheridan or Lars are interested in a permanent relationship, however a charity auction and a $10,000 bid are about to change everything they both thought they wanted.
"Our eyes met and the fire lurking behind his did things to me. He was an awkward, quirky mess, but he was also so damn good looking."
HARD LIMIT was heartbreaking, yet it was also inspirational. Sheridan and Lars were perfect together, two lonely people destined for each other, apart they were lost souls. Even though they were famous celebrities, their normalcy was endearing; the shopping, the skating, all the little things that made them special. There are twists and turns that cause anguish and despair; however it is the friendship of the Maverick team and their WAGS that keep this couple strong. The support and love they have for Sheridan and Lars were exactly what this couple needed when experiencing times of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and devastation. They're also there for fun times, cookouts, hair days, these were people who knew the true meaning of friendship.
"Everything about Lars made me feel safe. Wanted. Loved."

Secrets, angst, heartache, desire, passion, anger, fear, frustration, joy, and love ... all the feels are present in this amazing story. There was plenty of bedroom action and hockey action, so this reader was extremely happy, heat and ice ... the perfect combination. Ms. Rothert and Ms. Mizera have provided a strong woman with a man who knew how to find her soft, fun side and give her the love she desperately needed. There may have been hurdles to be jumped, however it was worth all the tears and frustration.
I can't wait for Nash's book - that little sneak peek has me thoroughly intrigued.

5 star Review Hard Limit (St Louis Mavericks #2) by Brenda Rothert & Kat Mizera
Having read and loved the first book in the series, I couldn’t wait to dive into Hard Limit. From the first to the last chapter these authors had me hooked. This is Lars Jansson and
Sheridan Lee’s story and was one that drew me in and refused to let me go until the last word was read.

Having read and loved the first book in the series, I couldn’t wait to dive into Hard Limit. From the first to the last chapter these authors had me hooked. This is Lars Jansson and
Sheridan Lee’s story and was one that drew me in and refused to let me go until the last word was read.

Once again, Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera have pulled on all my emotions with the latest book in the “St. Louis Mavericks” series. Lars and Sheridan’s story was wonderful and touched on so many things that people deal with.
Lars is the quiet but strong defenseman for the Mavericks. When at a charity action, he is bid on by the gorgeous plus-sized model, Sheridan. Sheridan is Lars' complete opposite, she’s outgoing and can talk to anyone. The two have a connection right away. However, both have battles they are fighting. Sheridan is trying to break from her abusive manager and Lars has some personal attacks on him from a former teammate.
I loved Lars and Sheridan so much! Lars is quiet, smart and has the protective alpha hockey player down perfectly. When he cares, he cares with every part of his soul. Sheridan is amazing and I loved how relatable she is. I live for books with plus-sized women in the storyline. Add in that it’s a hockey romance and I am in book heaven. Lars and Sheridan’s chemistry was sweet and spicy at the same time. We also get lots of interactions from the other Mavericks and a set up for the next book. Don’t miss out on this wonderful series!

Sheridan has been through a lot in the past both personally and professionally. She finds herself at a crossroads as she works towards the future she wants and the past that refuses to leave her alone. Winning a date with Lars in an auction may be enough to bring them together but with everything going on in their lives is it enough to keep them together?
Lars is a successful hockey player who may come across as distant and detached but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. He is uncomfortable when it comes to feelings and relationships but there is no denying he is a great teammate, loyal friend and man anyone would be lucky to have in their lives, but he is going through a difficult time of his own as well.
Both Sheridan and Lars are trying to deal with their current situations alone which causes some turmoil and hurt but once they open their hearts to each other they prove that anything worth having is worth fighting for.

I was waiting for Lars book and I wasn’t disappointed! I loved how little Annalise loved Lars and called him Thor. Lars was so good with Annalise. Sheridan was a well know plus size model all over the world went to a bachelor’s auction and bid and won Lars for a night. Lars does look like Thor and Sheridan felt small with him. Lars was such a quiet person and never thought he would fall in love until he met Sheridan. Unfortunately Sheridan has an ex that is still making her life miserable. Plus one of Lars’ teammates that got traded spewed malicious things about some of the team, Lars included. My emotions were so up and down with everything the two had to go through individually and together. I was ready to jump in the book and tell some people what I thought! I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

WOW! This book is an emotional roller coaster that will have readers wishing they could hide in their bedrooms until they finish the bonus epilogue!
Lars is a hero unlike any I have ever read before. There are so many moments I just wanted to reach through my tablet to give him a giant hug while helping him navigate his relationship with Sheridan! Sheridan is one of my favorite heroines I have ever read. She is strong and so very compassionate. Her life is full of so many obstacles but she manages to still be open to people around her and caring for others.
Both Lars and Sheridan have major life challenges to deal with throughout this story and though there will be moments readers will want to yell at their book, rest assured, these two figure things out in the end!

Who would have ever thought that Lars aka Thor would have stolen my heart. Lars and Sheridan met at a charity event where he was auctioned and from there the adventure began. Sheridan was going thru a lot but she was amazing!! She was actually pretty strong for everything that she’s been thru. She and Lars clicked and the most beautiful friendship/love story developed. They had several incidents that tried breaking them down but they always had each other’s back and we’re each other biggest cheerleader. It was heartwarming and they were so good together. Questions about why Lars is the way he is is answered in this story. And yeah his little best friend was jealous of Sheridan lol. Love it!!

This one was so cute on different levels. I loved how awkward Lars was, better was after a couple of rocky starts, Sheridan got that about Lars and it didn't matter. Sheridan was such a great person, not sure if I would be able to be the same happy/sunny person if had gone through what she did and learn what she did about those that were close to her. On the upside by dating Lars she found a new group of people who very much appreciated her for who she was and supported her when she needed it. Of course it was easy for them to do that as Sheridan had been there for them too.
I loved how this one ended, loved that Lars and Sheridan were happy, that they faced things head on and came out stronger together.

Lars and Sheridan’s story is an emotional powerhouse that checks all the boxes and scores big! This book delivers some serious feels and swoon as the story unfolds. I fell head over heels for these two. I found them both beautifully complex and relatable. The story is nicely written and read smoothly. I will warn you that your heart is going to get quite the workout as these two deal with inner turmoil, outside stressors and their evolving feelings. A truly terrific read! I am freely posting an impartial review.

I fell in love with Lars. The big Swedish hockey god is not like everyone else, but that’s what makes him so endearing. And as much as he likes to keep to himself, he can’t help but want to spend more time with Sheridan, the supermodel who paid a lot of money for him at a charity auction. Her beauty (naturally) and especially her strength and bravery drew him to her, and he can’t let go. And even though one night was all she had planned on, she just can’t resist him. They have an interesting relationship, but it works perfectly for them, through the highs and lows. Totally loved it!

Sheridan is a successful plus-size model and is experiencing personal and professional challenges. Lars is a member of the Mavericks hockey team and we follow his journey with his discoveries. His relationship with Sheridan is foreign to him, but learning from his mistakes.
Be prepared for some issues, of trust, injury, illness, disability, and abuse mentioned. All are necessary to the story and softened to the reader. I recommend this exceptional read.

I loved Sheridan's character. She's just amazing and so strong, the ultimate boss babe. I loved that she's not afraid to put herself out there even though inside she's a little bit insecure and wary after the accident. But I loved that she bid on Lars during the auction and caught his attention. I loved that Lars was the one who wanted to spend time with her though he said he's not interested in a relationship and said it was only for one night.
Lars is definitely a different kind of football player, he's really quiet and keep to himself. He's not even grumpy, he's just a very quiet guy who wants to play ball. But their story is not all fun, it definitely has emotional moments and these two actually have their own baggage and issues. I loved how it was unfolded too and how the authors wrote their story.

Blond Viking aka Thor!
So first of all, I am picturing Chris Hemsworth in the movie Thor as Lars. 100% So obviously I’m already in love with Lars from the moment we meet him. I found him to be sweet and caring and I love how he seems to not know every days things. It’s endearing. Plus, if you read the first story you know how a cute little girl is in love with him and how he reacted to her calling him Thor and wanting him to read to her.
Anyways - he lands a supermodel!

She’s also dealing with a nasty divorce and constant criticism about her as a plus sized model. But, when she is tempted to buy a date at a charity auction with a professional hockey player, she feels excited for the first time in over a year.
Lars isn’t looking for a relationship . . .ever. He loves routine and is set in his ways because dealing with people and emotions are hard. But, after one night with Sheridan, he finds himself wanting more and wanting to try for the one thing he’d never thought he’d want.
But, when secrets are revealed and missed communications come between them, both Sheridan and Lars are left wondering if they can ever pick up the pieces or if they were pushed past their hard limits.
I loved everything about this book and this couple! This book tackles so many hard issues and has all the feels leaving readers emotionally wrecked after traveling the highs and lows this couple faces both separately and together.
Lars was just awesome. His social awkwardness is endearing as is the major life revelation he has while also learning to live with his new reality. And, Sheridan is an incredibly strong woman, both physically and mentally to have been through everything she has and still be able to function and come out on top. Together, they are perfect if they can only get through their own baggage and missed communications.
There is also an incredibly emotional side story happening here with the newest St. Louis Maverick and his wife. Be on the lookout and have your tissues handy, because it’s a doozy and just adds to the depth of this plot and characters.
Kat and Brenda are a dream team and the St Louis Mavericks series has been simply incredible so far with both books leaving me breathless and emotionally fragile even as these lovely couples get their happy ever afters. 5 stars!

For me this book was a straight reah through. Barely put it down. I loved Lars' character in the first book and this one just elaborated on his gentle giant, protector, with a side of viking warrior.
Sheridan has built walls higher than Fort Knox around herself especially since the man who was supposed to be looking out for her best interest was actually just looking out for his own. After recovering from a debilitating accident she's looking forward to starting life afresh. Bidding on Lars at a bachelor auction though was not how she expected it to begin.
As is to be expected Lars' persistence makes its way through to her and she soon finds herself falling for him. But the past always finds a way to intrude and betrayal rears its ugly head once again. Thankfully Lars is unwilling to let go of the woman he has realised is the only one for him.

Socially awkward hulking hockey player Lars is always mistaken for a grumpy ogre. Beautiful plus-size model Sheridan is always dealing with self-conscious body issues.
Everyone has an outside and an inside that no one knows until it all starts to break down with help from the right person. Everyone needs that one person that will be there no matter what. And everyone gets devastated when they think they've found that person only to lose them.
