Strength had always been her greatest asset, until August West took her life by lasso…
Over her dead body would she allow her grandmother to give the family farm to a cocky cowboy. So, Tobi Saint dropped everything and headed to Cooper’s Hawk, a place she swore she wouldn’t step foot in again, but the vague call she received concerned her.
August West had lived a lot of places in his lifetime, but none had felt more like home than Cooper’s Hawk. He was back and liked working on River Saint Farm. The owner, Isobella, had taken him under her wing and treated him like her own. As her health started to decline, she asked for his help in convincing Tobi to take over the farm. He wanted no part of the scheme. His memory of Tobi involved a kiss behind the barn a second before she punched him in the nose.
Yet, how could he deny helping Isobella?
The old chemistry remained between August and Tobi. Things start to heat up and a fiery kiss between old friends leads to a moment that changes everything.
He found himself unraveling. For the first time he saw a chance at a future. A chance at love. But there was more to Tobi than met the eye. She’d been hurt by everyone she loved and to find his way into her heart he’d have to shovel through a brick wall.
The deeper he dug the harder it became, but love was worth fighting for…
Rhonda Lee Carver is a bestselling author of contemporary western and romantic suspense, but she loves to write other genres too. She's known for writing stories that keep readers laughing, crying, gripping the edge of their seats, and screaming all in one book...like riding a virtual roller coaster. Whether she's creating sexy cowboys or tough guys, or sassy, independent heroines, readers are sure to find strong, powerful, memorable characters that are relatable.
By day, she taps into her creative, fictional world but at some point she transitions back into reality where she's a volleyball-stands cheerleader, homework virtuoso (at least she thinks so), amateur nurse to skinned knees, mediocre chef with some awesome microwave skills, pet-guru (all the strays show up at her house), and a Jackie of all trades for her kids who are the loves of her life. Yoga and chocolate keep her sane. Hallmark movies require cuddling up with tissues because she can be emotional. She adds a sprinkle of her own real-life adventures in each story she spins because a little truth never hurt anyone. She wouldn't give up one thing in her crazy, chaotic, ever-amusing life, except, she might do magic tricks for the bungalow on the beach she's had her eye on (GOALS).
Writing for Rhonda is like falling in love and finding a new best friend over and over again. Her characters will find a place inside your heart too.
Returning home wasn’t in Tobi’s plan but may just be what she needs to heal past hurts. Tobi Saint left Cooper’s Hawk when she was a teen and promised herself she’d never go back. A strange call from her gran prompts her to drop everything to see what’s happening on her gran’s property. According to her gran, August, a childhood friend, is a lifesaver and her gran is going to sell the farm to him. Thinking August is taking advantage of her gran’s kindness, she rushes in, making snap judgments. August, it turns out, is beyond sexy and very distracting. He’s also honest, hard-working, and sets her straight on her misconceptions. Before she realizes it, she’s fallen for him. Devastating news hits her and she’s shaken to the core. Worse part is that August knew all along. Betrayed, broken, and alone, Tobi must figure out what to do. Can she forgive August and submit to his love, or will she run away to avoid getting hurt again?
Cowboy August is a heartwarming story about second chances, coming home, finding where you belong, and love. This is another great installment in this series and I read this in one sitting. I totally fell for Gran and her undying love for her granddaughter. August is another character I instantly connected with. It took me a while to warm up to Tobi, but once I got through her walls of self-preservation, I saw her for the sweet yet insecure woman she is. My heart went out to her when she discovered the truth, and I even cried a little. There are a lot of lessons in this story along with one helluva hot romance. Rhonda Lee Carver is a master when it comes to writing heartfelt small-town cowboy romance. It’s more than just heat, though. It’s all about heart. The plot moved at a great pace with plenty of steamy moments. The romance was kind of second chance romance but also not. They shared a kiss in their teens but then she moved away. If you’re a fan of small-town western romance, pick up Cowboy August. If you’re looking for an emotional coming home story, pick up Cowboy August. Highly recommend!
Really loved this heartwarming and emotionally powerful journey from beginning to end. Beautifully written, deeply emotional and heart racing journey filled with relatable and engaging charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists and undeniable passion.
Tobi grew up at River Saint with her grandma and grandpa. After Tobi's mom remarried, she dragged Tobi away from the only place she felt loved, at home. Toni’s grandma fought for Tobi. wrote letters to her, and prayed that she’d come back. She never did. Tobi completed school and developed a successful online skin care business. But she’s burned out and has hit a brick wall with her newest formula when she receives a call from her grandma requesting a visit. Tobi initially tells her grandma no, then is persuaded by her business partner to take a break, go for a visit.
August grew up in Cooper’s Hawk on River Saint ranch alongside Tobi. He and his mom worked the ranch and were always considered a part of the family. When August’s mom is killed in a car accident, Isobella takes August in as her own. After serving abroad, August returns to a run-down River Saint ranch. August takes over as the foreman and goes to work to make the much-needed improvements—out of his own pocket. Isobella enlists August to help him convince Tobi to return home for good. Best laid plans…
This is the sixth book in the Cooper’s Hawk series. While they are all intertwined, they can be read as stand-alone novels. This is a story about secrets and forgiveness. Tobi thought her grandma didn’t love her enough to fight for her. Tobi thinks August, her best friend growing up, is out to steal her home from her. Tobi has big decisions to make…can she let go of the past and forgive in order to have a future? While I truly loved the characters of this novel, I thought that the end was rushed. Otherwise, another winner from Rhonda Lee Carver! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Tobi is who we meet first as she's working with her friend and partner Ellen on a new formula for their skin care line. A phone call from her grandmother Isobella with hints of selling her ranch River Saint, has Tobi rethinking her priorities. She's been in a rut and has some serious trust issues. The thought that perhaps spending time at River Saint could help her clear her mind has her booking flights.
When we meet August, he's with Search and Rescue and the woman involved isn't hurt so much as wanting the rescuer. This appears to happen frequently with the Search and Rescue teams. He's also the new ranch manager for Isobella. When he arrived he found the ranch near bankruptcy, now it's slowly getting back on track. He's been doing a lot of repairs on the house himself and he's working on the hot water heater when Tobi arrives.
Tobi had a conversation with the 'retired' ranch manager and he didn't have anything good to say about August. She also didn't expect to find a man in her grandmother's basement at night and is holding him at gunpoint when Isobella gets home.
While these two get off on the wrong foot, Isobella throws them together consistently. They were friends as children they can get along now. But Tobi has to open up to conversations and things that can be proven.
The relationship between Isobella and Tobi needs some work and the things that Isobella holds back she really shouldn't have. August has to prove himself more than once even as he falls for Tobi all over again.
Tobi has to deal with her issues in order for this romance to work.
Twists and Turns, a bit of suspense and a simmer to sizzle romance.
This is an emotional, intense and romantic story. August and Tobi were friends when they both lived on Toni's grandparents ranch. Tobi was taken away from the ranch by her mother when she was 13, and Tobi never went back. Until the day Isobella did finally convince Tobi to come back by telling Tobi that she was selling the ranch. When Tobi gets back in town, she meets up with the former foreman, and he told her that August, the new foreman, was trying to steal the ranch. Tobi has trust issues, so she takes him at his word, and tries to talk Isobella into making August leave. They come to an understanding though, Tobi has to stay and learn to run the ranch and Isobella won't sell. While learning about the ranch, Tobi and August get reaquainted. The chemistry between them is too strong to fight, but Tobi still isn't ready to trust him. Isobella is a sweet, kind lady who loves Tobi and August both. Tobi is uptight, stubborn and wary. August is hardworking, caring and generous. I highly recommend this book, and all the books in the series. Each of the books can be read as a standalone, but but it's nice knowing the stories behind the guest appearances. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Oh Gram! I do wish I had a grandmother as precious and special as her. There is something about this sweet little town that I love because each time I visit, I can’t wait to visit again. This is the last of the series and the focus is on Tobi and August. Even though this is the last book of the series, the chemistry of Tobi and August is seen from the start and continues on throughout. There is more to characters than just good looks.
There is something about August’s quick remarks, the sexy little winks and grins that has me grinning as I read. Let’s not forget the author’s art of using the right words in the just the right way for my imagination to dream of a tall and sexy cowboy.
I bonded with Tobi over our love of science and as the book goes on a bit I found something else we share. I hate to give any type of spoiler but I would guess that at some point in our lives we have wondered to some extent the same thing as Tobi has in the back of her mind.
I love these characters because they are realistic. We might not all live on a farm or have a small business but we all have had ups and downs in our lives just like these characters.
An emotional read with romance because this is much more. A journey of two young souls separated years ago due to circumstances beyond their control, yet fated many years later, to return to the place they felt loved and loved in return. Tobi was an emotional mess thinking everyone she loved evidently did not love her back. There's three sides to every story, and this read had many. August was just as much a part of River Saint farm. Though not related by blood, he grew up there, loved Isobelle as much as any blood grandson would have, and wanted to spend his life on this farm. His feelings for Tobi were now mixed because she was as exasperating as she was lovable. Loved when he called her on her bull hockey excuses, and made her face truths. He was exactly what she needed. A lot to work through for these two. Secrets kept, and truths revealed makes this a heartfelt read, with tears, sass, hard work, a good bit of heat, and the sad, but inevitable circle of life. I received an advance reader's copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own and written voluntarily. A recommended read from me.
I was immediately drawn Isobella. For some reason, I could just imagine exactly what she looked like, how she acted, how she walked, and I could see every expression in her face that was described in this book.
What could be better than reuniting with your childhood “best friend”? Tobi has so many trust issues with good reason. She feels that the people who were supposed to love her stopped loving her and have let her down her entire life. That has led her to build up immense walls, but can they be torn down? I enjoyed the banter between her and August and I love the fact that both of them are a little snarky.
He’s the kind of guy who loves deeply, but won’t put up with any BS or dramatics. She is every bit as stubborn and feisty as a woman can be. Watching these two coexist while still having unresolved issues brought such joy to my day. If you enjoy a contemporary romance with a little spice, then this is definitely a book you will want to pick up. My only sadness is I wish there had been just a little bit more to the epilogue in regards to what happens to her company and how much further the relationship goes.
I absolutely LOVE reading books by Rhonda Lee Carver. They have never failed at keeping the reading interested in the story. I enjoy when I read a story not being able to predict what could happen, and like many books of hers she does that with Cowboy August. So, this is book 6 in the series, which can all be read alone or in order. We meet August, a man who grew up with a single mom and didn't have the "ideal" childhood but was blessed with what he did have. He has found his way back to the place he calls home and is helping the farm get back to the place it needs when Tobi shows up. Tobi gets a call from her grandmother, and she is worried that some cowboy is trying to take the farm away. She decides she has no other choice but to go down there and see for herself and help her grandma. When Tobi arrives, she finds out more than she expects and the last person she thought she would see was her childhood friend....August. I highly recommend this book, and I think it reminds us all....life is what we make it <3
How do you trust again, when everyone in your life has let you down? Tobi is getting over a bad break up. August is trying to find out where he fits in, in the civilian world. They were best friends growing up, but time had changed both of them. The chemistry was there, but she was fighting it. Will tragedy bring them together or tear them apart for good?
Tobi and her best friend, Ellen created the online beauty product business, Pineapple Fluff. Lately, she has been feeling unsettled. Her Gram keeps calling, asking her to come visit. Maybe that’s just what she needs. When she arrives at the ranch, see can’t believe her eyes. The place is run down. And why is August acting like he owns the place?
August had returned to Cooper Hawke after his stint in the Army. He was now working for the Landing Hawke Search and Rescue team. He was also helping out Isobella at the ranch. The ranch was run down, but he was fixing things, one thing at a time. Then Tobi shows up and things start to get complicated.
Book 6 in the Cooper’s Hawke books by Rhonda Lee Carver definitely didn’t disappoint! Although it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the others first so that you can meet the other characters and get the full feeling of the stories.
Tobi and August knew each other when they were younger, but after being pulled away as a little girl, Tobi hasn’t been back to Coopers Hawke for years, and only returns to make sure her grandmother doesn’t sell off their farm.
Tobi’s reunion with August AND her grandmother is not an easy one. She has to learn to forgive and trust again after being hurt again. And August has his work cut out for him trying to convince Tobi to stay for good on the ranch, while keeping a big secret from her.
This story is a beautiful one about family, love, and forgiveness. We all get hurt in life, but it’s how we move on and move forward from those that make us into who we are. Loved this story!
When Tobi was literally ripped from the loving home she shared with her grandparents her life was never the same. Thinking she was alone in the world and people only proving that to her left her jaded where trust was concerned. Her mother certainly wasn't mother of the year material. When she got the call from her grandma asking her to visit, she reluctantly returned after hearing that her former best friend August had moved back and grandma was selling him the ranch. Coming home to River Saint was supposed to be temporary until she could get her grandma straighten out but as they usually do grandma knew best. With her plan to get her granddaughter home for good she hoped for Tobi and August to find their way back to being like "eggs and toast " the ending left me wanting more. I wanted grandma to see Tobi stay and fall for August. I hated they didn't have more time together.
Tobi is going back to the only place that is her home and to the grandma whose loves her and back to River Saint Ranch in hawks Landing but she has trust issues and doesn't trust anyone and thinks everyone let's her down but when she sees her best friend growing up will she be able to let go of all the hurt she's held on too or will secrets destroy her? August has lived on River Saint Ranch since he was young but now older and helping save the Ranch he's only loved when his past comes back in the name of Tobi can he handle her anger and trust issues? This book was absolutely so good and I couldn't put it down. Rhonda did a fantastic job with keeping you interested and connecting with the characters emotions.
Even though it’s the 6th book in the Cooper’s Hawke Landing, Rhonda didn’t scrimp on any exciting details. There’s romance, sex, laughter, action and tears.
I loved August and Tobi. They both grew up on River Saint, her leaving at age 13 and him at age 18.
When August comes back, he moves onto the farm Tobi’s grandmother owns where he grew up. Six months later, Tobi comes back to help her grandmother.
The connection and chemistry between August and Tobi is so dang hot, it jumps from the page while you’re reading.
Not giving away any more about the story. You just need to read it for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I love the series.
Cowboy August Cooper’s Hawke Landing Book 6 Rhonda Lee Carver
Take a journey back to Cooper’s Hawke Landing and meet August who has returned home and is helping Isobella to revive River Saint. Tobi arrives after being away for years and is drawn into looking at her issues with abandonment. It grabs you by your heartstrings and pulls you into their story and leaves you rooting for a happy ending. Emotions are touched and you just might need a Kleenex. Another great story from Cooper’s Hawke Landing. I received an ARC for an honest review.
August is finally home from serving his country and back on the farm that he grew up on. Grams is the owner and has recently gotten the bad news of terminal cancer. Tobi gets her phone call and decides that she needs to leave Chicago and check on her Grandmother when she threatens to sell the farm. The feelings that August and Tobi have for each other dance around quite a bit and they have a very tough road on the way to their final HEA! I read a bookfunnel version and freely leave my opinion!
I love Rhonda Lee Carver and all she writes and this one was a beautiful second chance love story. Childhood friends who by circumstances out of their control get taken away from each other and then in adulthood meet again and the sparks fly once more. So lovely to see the last hurt and anger get resolved and to see Tobi as a grown woman fall in love again with August. Definitely a wonderful story - with some old friends hovering in the background, this series is great with the entwined stand alone. Really enjoyed it.
Cowboy August: WOW! Lots of emotion throughout the story! I loved all the characters. Fantastic characters and it's always good to all the regulars. August would do anything for anyone. He always cared about Isabella because always treat him and his mom like family and he always had a connection with Tobi. When her mother to her away from the one place Tobi loved. Tobi felt that her grandparents didn't love her. She had a career in Chicago but her partner convince her go home to her gram to regroup. It was a great story!
Tobi left the family farm at age 13. She has not been back, but with grandmother saying she selling. She also mentions that August West is working the farm and Tobi is suspicious of him.
August returned to Cooper's Hawke and is living in the cottage his mother and him lived in years ago. He grew up with Tobi until she left to go live with her mother. Isobella has told him she has cancer, but makes him keep it a secret. When Tobi returns she knows something is going on, but her grandmother is not telling her about the cancer.
Tobi and August's romance is an emotional whirlwind that will send your own heart spinning. This is one of those books that is truly all about the feels and emotions. I mean sure, there's drama, tension and a bit of angst too, but at its core it is simply a love story. It is a powerful, beautiful and moving. A delightfully wonderful book that will definitely have you swooning. I am electing to post a objective review.
In the 6th book of this series, we see August and Tobi. Both have returned home for different reasons. They've known each other since they were kids but Tobi has been hurt by life in general and doesn't trust very well. Can August break through the walls she has erected around her heart? There is some drama, a bit of angst but you'll be rooting for August and Tobi as they work through their relationship!! I loved it and so far, this is one of my favorites in this series!!
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Tobi is called to visit her Gram's believing it is to help her figure out the running of the ranch. August and Tobi were best friends growing up, but haven't seen or talked for seventeen years. August came back and Isobella hired him as the foreman to run the ranch. Just another great read and easy to follow along in the series.
August and Tobi were once childhood friends, until her cold hearted mother took her from her grandparents. Now years later she's back in Cooper's Hawke visiting her grandmother and she realizes that things are not what she thought. Her goal is to now stop her friend August from taking her grandmother's beloved ranch...only to find out once again, things are not what they seem to be! Great continuation of the series!
"Cowboy August" (Cooper's Hawke Landing Book 6) by Rhonda Lee Carver is an enjoyable read. I loved Tobi and August's story. This story has romance, chemistry, hot cowboys, veterans, small-town life, family, second chances, and more. This was a great addition to this series. Recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, family, second chances, and series.
Tobi and August are an interesting pair. These characters believe so many misconceptions. The character I like the most though is Gram. Although she is Tobi’s grandmother, Gram helped raise August as well. Gram schemes works behind the scene to push Tobi and August to work together to save the ranch. She is devious! I love her! Cowboy August is a wonderful read!
Cowboy August is another great addition to the Cooper's Hawke Landing series. I enjoyed Tobi and August's sweet love story, and it was fun catching up with the other characters in the series. I look forward to more Landing Hawke Search and Rescue missions and hope to get an update on Tobi, August and River Saint Farm.
I received an ARC Copy of this book through BookFunnel and I voluntarily chose to review it. This is a well written book with great characters. This one made me think of my own Grandmother. I shed a few tears but I would tell everyone to get this one it is worth your time. I loved this book and I hope you do, too!!!!
This story was so wonderful yet it had moments that were sad. Sometimes we all let our self doubts take over and cause us so much misery we can't see the happiness and what we need to make us whole standing right in front of us. This definitely worth the read and you may just series you need to not let those doubts fog your vision and happiness
The sixth book in the Cooper's Hawke Landing series. Two fresh new characters destined to be together. Lots of baggage and issues on both sides to overcome on the way to the HEA. These stories get better with each new book, don't miss this one.
