Entrepreneur, CEO, or business leader: no matter your title, the success of your company is a responsibility—and weight—that lies squarely on your shoulders. In the beginning, increased control was an asset that bought you peace of mind. But now, without the structure your business needs to thrive, you’re overworked, overwhelmed, and unsure of the path ahead.
Fortunately, everything that makes your company work can be captured and put to work for you.
In The Business Playbook, serial entrepreneur Chris Ronzio walks you through his proven framework for building a playbook: the profile of your business, the people who work in it, the policies that guide it, and the processes that operate it. He shows you how to codify your culture and create a living document that allows you to let go of day-to-day responsibilities and empower your team to run the business without you.
If you want to build a company that doesn’t rely on you putting in more hours, this book will show you the way.
[as a reminder, 3/5⭐️ means a book “met expectations” by my definition.]
The Business Playbook was recommended to me as I’m working with an OBM in one part of my business. It’s a great template for documenting processes but it’s a little “light” on what this actually means for online business owners (better suited for startups and product based businesses). That said, building off this book and finding some resources for OBOs will make your documentation processes a winner!
Clearly structured and easy to read. Covers the common problem that entrepreneurs face--of having to do everything themselves, and thus becoming the bottlenecks for their business. His solution is the Business Playbook which documents proven steps in your business, in 4 parts: Profile, People, Policies and Processes. Each part comes with ideas on how you can implement them.
The main thing is to only capture what already works in your business. I.e. if you're still grappling with your business model or trying to get an MVP off the ground, you're not ready for a playbook yet.
Conceptually, I found it very similar to other books like Clockwork, SYSTEMology etc. which all discuss ways to capture your business systems and automate/replicate yourself for growth. Some good ideas that I'll revisit, though I haven't really started to apply the 4Ps yet, though I definitely need to get more of my business systemized and replicated!
Worth a read if you're a small business owner or team trying to get all the moving pieces under control so you can stop working in the business and start working ON it.
The Title of this book perfectly explains what is inside.
I picked it up because work is having me write the daily tasks of what everyone's job is, and this book gave great insight in the beginning process of making our company's playbook.
Chris has a lot of experience helping companies create business plans, and a lot of life lessons that made it easy to remember the lessons of documenting what your company does.
It's a good book, and as Chris mentioned it will change as he learns more himself. I recommend it to anyone who has a business and wants it to grow to get the fundamentals of creating a well oiled machine.
New job title means new job responsibilities so I wanted to do some catch-up from the many many years ago of grad school. You may remember this author because he was in the news late last year / early this year because he was offering $5k to any new employee to quit after their first two weeks swearing it does good for corporate culture. The book was good. Solid process for creating a playbook for future growth.
This is a must book for all the entrepreneurs who are in process of streamlining their business processes, policies to make it people centric. Rather than running your business on the institutional knowledge of people, it gives you the freedom to trust them with your SOPs and core values. Your business playbook will help you scale your business, and empower and develop your team.
Very good book. Precise action oriented guide, not too much theory. The benefits of following this process are very obvious, yet even mature businesses do not do it.
Its well writen but does not contain a lot of practical tips and “how to’s”. The writer pushes to use and buy his products which is a let down. Read this in two days, not much to implement.
Well-organized, easy-to-read and easy-to-follow playbook on creating your company's own playbook. May be a bit simplified for more mature businesses and leaders, but this is a great manual for entrepreneurs and startups looking to grow and scale their businesses smartly.
Really easy to read and jam packed with actionable steps to help your business run smoothly. Really excited to start implementing and see my business transform and my team empowered.
Chris told me to stop reading the book if X,Y, and Z had not happened yet, which for me was true. I kept reading anyway and took a glimpse into the future. Great Insight into how to scale your business.
