“I was in a relationship with two men and neither were giving me up.”

That thought flashed through Charlotte’s brain like a bright neon light as she followed her husband out of her marriage counselor’s office.

The office where she’d sat twice a week as she tried to repair the glaring problems in her marriage.

The marriage that she’d fought hard to save to a man that wasn’t fighting alongside her. She’d been lied to, ignored and used as a pawn to climb his ladder to success. Charlotte was broken, not just her marriage.

But, then she met Dr. Montgomery and everything changed.

They say love is patient and kind of course, but what happens when that love comes at the cost of everything?

Love was a force that took no prisoners when it decided to strike and Charlotte had been hit—hard.

By a man that wasn’t her husband.

By the very man who was supposed to save her marriage.

*Bittersweet Surrender is part one of the Bittersweet duet and must be read before Bittersweet Addiction.

The way the affair between the client & the marriage counselor begins is so very distasteful!

The way he starts it, the way she starts it... ugh, I have no words... it is so badly and distastefully written (yes, I need to repeat the word "distasteful" because it is the key word here).

From then on, the book mostly focuses on sex rather than feelings.

Their affair goes on for 4 months or something like that and she is happy with the way things are. The lover (the therapist) wants her to get divorced but she neither tries to save her marriage nor wants a divorce. She goes there a few hours before their couple session and they have sex two or three times before the husband comes and the couple therapy begins.

Just unbelievable... I can't stand this anymore! I tried to be patient for 100 pages but enough is enough. I would understand and accept the forbidden love if it were written in a different way but I cannot understand this charade, sorry...

YESSSSSSS give me all fo the messy romances! Going in, I knew this was about our heroine who was cheating on her husband with their marriage counselor. Right away, we're dropped in on Charley and Will deep in a relationship together. They're obviously physically attracted to each other and the depth to their romance and connection only grows throughout the story. Charley has no idea what she's going to do, but she knows that she's fallen out of love with her husband. This book is mostly about Charley trying to deal with her marriage falling apart and falling for someone else who she knows is off limits. I really loved how Will and Charley grew more to trust each other and you really see them fall in love in this book. The only change I wanted was how this book started. I would have loved to see Charley and Will meet and see how their affair actually starts before we're dropped into the plot. We get a bit of that at the very end of the book, but I think that would have given Will's character a lot more depth. Since this was all form Charley's perspective until the end, I would have loved to see Will's perspective of the beginning before the book begins. But other than that, this was such a good read (especially on audio) and I can't wait to pick up book two!

My God!! This author loves to write.
She writes and writes and writes.
But trust me it’s not boring.
And I loved this.

This book started with a bang but then it got repetitive. It was going nowhere. It’s just the wife (h) fucking her counselor (H). Then she trying to hide it from her husband. Then they visiting the counselor where she came early to fuck the counselor.
But the book picked the pace again when she finally filed for divorce.

The things started getting interesting AF and then *bang* We are hit with a cliffhanger.
Ugh...

Beware ...there is cheating in this. But I don’t mind because it’s not the guy doing it. You see I’m a little biased when it’s comes to a women.😉

Okay QB. I see you! Have mercyyyyy!! This was messy, super hot and addictive!! This is why I read baby! I don’t read this trope (cheating) enough, but there’s nothing like them if they’re well written. QB did the damn thing!! Lacy Laurel and Alexander Neal’s vocal were fire and ice. Like a hot knife slicing butter—my insides liquified to mush. I love that these characters were very realistic. Very flawed, but real. If you crave a good forbidden romance then this book is IT!!

Diving into book 2 NOW!!

“I love you, I would protect you from anything…everything. I would never let anyone hurt you.”
I’m stunned by his admission. He…loves me?
I want to cry tears of both elation and grief. He loves me but…I’m not free to give myself to him completely. He must know my thoughts because he places his hands on my face.
“I know you’re in a tough position, and I’m not asking you to make any decisions right now. I just want you to know that I’m in. I’m all in, Charley.”

Tropes:
✨forbidden AF
✨patient x marriage counsellor
✨cheating (not between MCs)

Charley and her husband Matt have been struggling in their marriage so they decide to see a marriage counsellor, Will. Matt is married to his job and doesn’t pay much attention to Charley at all. He is unemotional, he has neglected her and she feels unloved and taken for granted. She was basically Matt’s trophy wife. He made enough money for the both of them so he basically made her quit her job. Matt helped her through something very tragic a few years ago so he became her safety net. And she’s scared to leave him for that comfort of security he provides. The one person who who suppose to save their marriage is the one who finally destroys it…

At the beginning of the book we are thrown deep into Will and Charley’s relationship. At this point they were already sleeping together for 4 months. I wish we would have had the story from the beginning so I could feel the tension build up. But the book does go back into the past a few times, so you do get to see some stuff from the beginning of their relationship. That being said, there still was lots of sexy tension between them. Their chemistry was on fire.

I was hesitant to read this because like how they hell are you suppose to fall in love with someone else and still be with your husband and not be suspicious??? Like does she love them both?? I was worried this would be some sort of love triangle. But it’s very clear who Charley loves. The back and forth between them I found to be annoying. And the little fights they had in between just annoyed the hell out of me. There was also too much sex scenes so I felt there was a lot of substance missing from the characters which is why I’m rating this 3 stars. I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of the heroine and even the hero, nothing really stood out to me. They both annoyed me. Although the story did keep me hooked because because I was dying to see how this would play out. Falling in love with with the person who is suppose to help save your marriage?? Can it even get more forbidden than that!!! LMAOO

I don’t think I’ll be reading the second one anytime soon but I’m keeping it on my radar. Maybe if their relationship didn’t start off page I would have enjoyed it more.

Bittersweet Surrender is a definitive example of why I loathe romances with cheating. Tyler conflates lust with love with our titular duo which further exacerbates the utter depravity of the cheating that occurs in this book. All in all, Bittersweet Surrender is just a black hole of toxicity that I wish I didn't read.

3.5 stars! Bittersweet Surrender is the first book in the Bittersweet duet from QB Tyler. First off, if you don’t enjoy reading about cheating then avoid this duet. 😅 As the entire setup is the heroine having an affair with her marriage counselor (the hero and heroine cheat together, not on one another if that makes a difference to you). Buttttt if you know the premise and are down for some fun, this book delivers on that!

“I was a good wife…until I wasn’t.”

Charlotte has been with her husband for 8 years when the story starts and we found out 4 months ago she started sleeping with their marriage therapist, Will. Her marriage had already fallen apart a year prior and she only went to counseling because her husband demanded it and wouldn’t give her a divorce. So it’s not even a love triangle situation. But what started as a fantasy and lust-filled, over the 4 months Will and Charley start to have real feelings for one another.

“I’m in a relationship with two men and neither of them are giving me up.”

I listened to this duet on audio and they were a fun time! Obviously the way the story is set up it’s going to be messy, but I was in the mood for that kind of read. I did think it was a little longer than needed, I was ready for her to move forward with the divorce sooner cause it was obvious the marriage was done. Or maybe if they hadn’t gotten together so early on, the tension and angst of that would have been soo good!

Bittersweet Surrender by Q.B. Tyler this is the story of Charlotte, Matthew and Will.
Charlotte and Matthew married early in their lives but now they are starting to come apart. Trying to move forward they go to a marriage consular. Will is that marriage advisor and although things start off professional along the way feelings start between Charl0tte and Will. It started with a friendship relationship along with the professional one.... but it turned to more physical.
This was definitely a different type of romance story from me but one that you do keep turning the pages to see what was happening next with them.

God I hate them. I hate them all. But like I’m still gonna skim the next book cause I need to know what happens? I was hoping her and her husband would resolve things cause damn is swear Will is a freaking psychopath. This book was painful to read. I literally skipped the sex scenes. It was so cringey. It’s rare for me to rate something under 3 stars but dang this one deserved it.

Edit: never mind I read reviews for book two screw that I hate this storyline. Screw charlotte and will

Decent sexual chemistry between Charlotte and Will, but the heroine's choices frustrate me, and also i wish QB would have abbreviated parts of the story. Because I was so bored and nauseated listening to the countless of time Matt disappointed Charlotte, and the countless of times she says she doesn't "want" the money that she's earned through their awful marriage. I was rolling my eyes so hard at those parts...

This book was literally like a drug for me, I couldn’t inhale it quick enough, I couldn’t get the words embedded in my brain fast enough, it was like a high I was trying to follow but it's this kind of feeling you want as a reader that just doesn't come along often enough. I cannot get these characters out of my head! All of their wrong doings, their short comings, the terrible mistake they make, how very human they are......and I loved every second of it!

Bittersweet Surrender by Author Q. B.Tyler is a forbidden romance, circling around an affair.

“You may think you know my story, but you have no idea. I was a good wife…until I wasn’t.”

Charlotte is in what she feels is a loveless marriage. Her husband doesn’t notice her, doesn’t attend to her, doesn’t talk to her. She’s desperate for this change. Desperate to feel wanted and loved. Thinking marriage counseling is the answer, she and her husband Matthew begin attending, where she meets the enigmatic and sexy Will.

“We’re not just playing with fire, we’re right in the middle of an inferno.”

Cheating is a no-no. It should never happen in a marriage. BUT, when you read about it in books, it is so salacious and forbidden that the angst-ridden ride you embark on becomes an obsession you can’t put down.

“The devil and the angel are perched firmly on my shoulders pleading their cases over what I should do.”

This story was intriguing and HOT. I hoped it would be a climb up the mountain to get to the peek and enjoy all the beauty. But, it was a constant tug at my conscience and an edge of mystery that I couldn’t quite put a finger on for sometime. It made my heart accelerate, my hands sweat, and my mouth water. It was the most delicious and indescribable temptation. It was the constant weaving of deceit and lies with all of the best intentions. I look forward to more of the story.

“Bottom line, Charley, you’re worth the risk. You always have been.”

Love triangle. Cheating. Marriage in trouble. Forbidden.

*spoiler alert*warning*

••• Matt

- Sad backstory
- Self-made rich
- Ideal husband before his job became his priority
- Not ready for kids yet

• I understand and admire his drive to earn much money, just not at the expense of his marriage.

• I don't get why he's so adamant to keep his wife when it's obvious that they no longer love each other and grew apart years ago. They aren't even close friends for the last 2 years. They're like strangers living under one roof with a long history together. 😐

• Matt, there are plenty of fish in the sea. You deserve better than that damn bitch woman.

*spoiler alert*warning*

••• Will (H)

- Marriage counselor 🤨
- His office is Matt-Charlotte's war zone.
- He empathizes with Charlotte's unhappy life with her neglectful, insensitive, disinterested and jerk husband.

• I like Will. He's the only reason I finished this book, and unto the next.

• For months it was all professional. Then he reached that point where he just want to comfort Charlotte.
They're attracted to each other but it took months for their attraction to turn into physical.

• Unethical, immoral, wrong.. IKR but somehow I understand their emotional connection. Wrong timing but I believe they're meant for each other.

• His patience for her is extraordinary. Their love would have not survive if not for his strength.

*spoiler alert*warning*

••• Charlotte (h)

- 28 y/o Beautiful damsel in distress 🙄
- Sad backstory
- Marketing grad. Housewife<-Matt's decision
- She wants kids! Like, right now but hubby is not ready.
- She wants out of an unhappy marriage but scared to lose its benefit of security.
- With crying spells every chapter. 🙄LOL

• I so want to like her being a woman and all, but holy hell, Charlotte stretched my patience to the limit!

• Deflection expert.
I lost count the times she refused or ignored Matt's cheating questions, and Will's advice to file for divorce.

• Until this book, I've never wanted a Hero flirts or dates OW in heroine's face. Charlotte was fuming. LMAO

• She's angry that Matt lied about her stepdad's (abuser) death 1 and a half year ago, which means that the safety and security their marriage provided her has been unnecessary.
That's wrong for Matt sure.
How about- keep or leave your marriage simply because you're unhappy and doesn't love the person anymore; and not because of what ever benefits' attached to your marriage or husband, bitch Charlotte? Hello pot, meet kettle.

• She wants a baby because she got plenty of time in her hands being a housewife with a busy husband.
She started the talk of divorce a year ago.
She always finds a way for hours of smexing with Will.
But she neither have the time nor foresight to save some money. You'd think she prepared herself for a year. 🤭

*****

Too much smexy times. Halfway thru the book I skimmed those parts. If not for Will, I'd think they're in lust , not in love.

This book was aggravating. Barring the FMC’s terrible decision making skills, how how how does a therapist - a PROFESSIONAL - think it is okay to sleep with a patient. A patient who’s husband is paying for your services to help them work through their marriage. Do not get me wrong, the husband is a piece of work, but besides lying about a very crucial part of a piece of the puzzle of the FMC’s reason for staying with him… you cannot convince me this entire book could not have been solved if Charlotte turned to Matt and said “I’m more attracted to our marriage counsellor than you Matt, this isn’t working we’ve tried for 4 months, we need a divorce”. Bam, three page story.

ALSO don’t lie to your lawyer - why would you lie to your lawyer?!?!? “No - he has no idea about the affair” when he’s been asking your constantly who you’re sleeping with instead of him. Like what? WHAT? ALSO if your limitless card get declined after you tell your hurt husband who pays for everything except your burner cheating phone, that you want a divorce — there is no need to be confused just put on your logic hat - he cancelled your cards babe.

What a rancid trio: a selfish, unhappy FMC who consistently cannot put two and two together, a workaholic controlling husband with a saviour complex, and a literal therapist who is sleeping with his patient who’s husband is paying for these therapy sessions. If you’re going to sleep with your patient’s wife DO NOT CHARGE THEM FOR YOUR SERVICES OR GIVE THEM A DISCOUNT. Better yet, don’t sleep with your patient… or their wife.

Also Charley needs a new friend - Lauren telling her “she’s not a bad person she just did a bad thing”… mam she went to her marriage counsellor’s office at least an hour before the actual scheduled appointment with her husband to sleep with her counsellor for 5 months… and then say through another session pretending to not have just slept with the man your husband is paying for therapy. She’s not a bad person she’s terrible. They both are.

I had in my head all kinds of things I was going to say in this review and now I am just hoping I don't forget anything. It's going to be a hard review for me to write and probably a hard review for some to read. And I don't care. There was very little that was comfortable in this book.

This book is about cheating. Line one of the blurb clearly gives you this indication.

“I was in a relationship with two men and neither were giving me up.”

The last two lines of the blurb tell you this.

By a man that wasn’t her husband.

By the very man who was supposed to save her marriage.

For all that is holy...do not pick up this book KNOWING THIS INFORMATION and then give this author a one star review. Don't. Do. It.

I am giving this story 5 stars. I would give it more if I could. Here is why.

I was in this story from the very beginning. Every thought, every feeling, every little tic and action from each character was literally tangible to me. The desire, the hurt, the anger, the furiousness, every slam of every door...all palpable for me throughout this entire story. The air practically crackled with tension around me. Just sitting here writing this review, thinking back to the story that I read...I get tears in my eyes and the energy below my skin is tingling.

This book, regardless of how I came upon it now, will be in my forever collection. I love books that make me uncomfortable, that make me think and that make me feel. This book sort of ends on a cliffhanger...and I WILL be stalking the author for the next part in this story.

If you can handle it...read this story. I promise you won't be disappointed.

5 stars. All the way.

Really tough to read…

Q.B. Tyler is basically going to force readers to test the limits of what they find taboo. Unfortunately, this particular case was just a bridge too far for me. The bored housewife screwing the marriage counselor (and they didn’t expect to get caught…) was absolutely sexy at times. Mostly, it was an up-close seat to a marriage dissolving and just sad.

2.5 stars for the selfish people in this triangle

I honestly didn’t like this book. I had so many scratch my head moments that I was waiting for a big twist at the end.
I love taboo stories but the characters were not endearing to me. The least problematic character was the marriage counselor however he broke the most sacred code of all, Trust. Charley spend most of the book talking about she wanted, she wasn’t getting and yet she continued in a couples counseling that she wasn’t invested in. The husband Matt was underrepresented in this book. I wanted to know this story from his point of view too. How does a man who noticed bruising on a young 17 yr old and fight so hard to help her all of a sudden works relentlessly like he owes the mob money. That man wouldn’t forget a birthday. I think Matt was misrepresented and no one really delved into who saved him from his trauma.

There was a lot of sex in this book. It seemed to overpower the plot where flawed people are trying to find their happily ever after. It just was too much sex and not enough accountability by each player. I’m struggling with whether I will read book 2.

Bittersweet Surrender shocked me in all the ways. This was a book I picked up blurb unread so imagine my surprise discovering it was a love triangle. Now listen love triangles are not my thing, in fact I usually will run the other way. But, wowzers, when I tell you QB Tyler had me riveted by this deliciously forbidden romance.

This baby was chock full of emotion and angst. I felt as emotionally wrung out as Charley. It can’t be easy to experience the greatest love of your life at the worst possible time. Married, her heart should be with her husband but things between them are broken and have been for a long time with little hope of mending. Never did Charley imagine she’d find her heart captured by the very last man she it be with; her marriage counselor.
But, love knows no bounds, it is messy, it is irrefutable, it is inconvenient, it is impossible to deny the heart what it wants and QB made sure I felt it all. Charley’s internal struggles and conflicting feelings between Dr. Montgomery and her husband was powerfully tangible. Oh my and that spice, QB ma’am, the spice was freaking im-pecc-able!

Bittersweet Surrender was a compelling, passionate and tempestuous tale that had me in its chokehold from beginning to end.

Lacy Laurel made for the perfect Charley. Her and Alexander Neal’s narration truly just embodied the essence of this beautiful love story.
This is book one of a duet so expect to have your heart in your throat until you pick up book two.

“Love was a force that took no prisoners when it decided to strike and Charlotte had been hit—hard. By a man that wasn’t her husband.
By the very man who was supposed to save her marriage…..”

QB is the Queen of forbidden romance ….. This audio with Lacy Laurel and Alexander Neal is such perfection I’m not sure how to describe this book.

All throughout this book I was on the edge of my seat, the multiple characters involved in this ultra taboo was intense and exciting!! I ate this up with a spoon and can’t wait to continue Charlotte’s story. The narrators placed us the readers right there in the room and I was here for it!! Conflicting feelings about the state of her marriage has Charlotte succumbing to finding comfort and recognition with Dr Montgomery…… in for a dangerously messy ride - all’s fair in love and war.
